I also appreciate it when my wife tells me that.

No one wants to live in Toronto with that weather
I would do literally anything for him. His wife is such a lucky woman
I love him so much hahaha
Every “we don’t need you” is just love wearing the wrong jersey.
Who is sleeping on his couch?
I think Shohei has such a good attitude towards the heckling. I think the chant was funnier than it was mean. You can’t be a baseball fan and not respect Ohtani, even if you don’t love him. Of course I want to see us win without him, but I’d still take him on my team in a heartbeat and so would anyone else.
I’m in Japan at the moment and I see his face every where I go, every day. I don’t think he’s insecure and the jeers don’t affect him. If anything, Japanese people respect passionate fans.
I keep meeting Japanese Dodgers fans because I’m wearing my Blue Jays hat, and they’re excited to speak to a baseball fan. I keep telling them I love the Dodgers players like Ohtani, Yamamoto, Mookie, Freeman… but I hate the team and want them to lose and they keep laughing and telling me good luck.
I think sports is much more fun when the ribbing from both sides is in good nature, without personal attacks.
Lol if he had been signed by Toronto, I was so ready to have a Blue Jays jersey made with “O’tani” on the back haha
OMG so wholesome!!!!1!
Everyone can have a good laugh here
*About the “We don’t need you” chant*
I thought it was great. My wife loves that chant, so she teased me a little about it, but personally I thought it was really good.
*Do you get to relax at home?*
Overall, I can relax once I get home. I just try to make sure I don’t hear the same kind of chants at home that I heard in Toronto.
*Could you hear the chant while you were at bat?*
Of course I could hear it — same with the “MVP” chants too. But I’m focused during my at-bats, so it doesn’t really bother me or anything like that.
From Sponichi
Its funny how its almost turned into a vlad vs shohei matchup to prove if he made the right choice. But on the field those two couldn’t get along better. So much respect for each other
I love that quote. Usually Shohei and Will (translator) make his response to English questions as boring, vanilla and unquotable as possible. Occasionally his fun side shines through and we get a gem here or there like this.
I thought the chant was fun/funny too. I doubt Springer is gonna get quite as funny/creative a reception this week. Yikes.
MLB is so lucky to have Sho. We LA fans are the spoiled brats of the league 😂😅(though us non bandwagoners did at least earn our strips through the McCourt era and even the heartbreakers of recent years)
The chants will work out nicely if Toronto wins it all, but regardless I don’t really know what they’re hoping to make Ohtani feel. The dude isn’t exactly living with a ton of non-Ippei related regrets.
Going to the game tomorrow. Might have to try to start a “we need you” chant
