Brodie’s Breakdown vs MIN (10/26)

Brody Brazil here to recap game nine on this season which turned out to be a well-earned hard-fought overtime win by the Sharks 6-5 over the Wild in a finish that was absolutely wild. Let’s break this thing down. The Sharks had played well over the road trip so far, but just one win to show for it in the prior three stops between the Islanders, Rangers, and Devils, meaning a victory here in Minnesota would earn them a feelgood 500 trip. Meanwhile, the Wild, they just played Saturday night at home and were easily beat by the Mammoth 6-2 final score. So, not only some fatigue, but likely some frustration playing into their approach in this one facing San Jose for the first time this season. Sharks head coach Ryan Warovski had alternated his goalies in each of the first eight games of the season, but tonight rewarded Yaruslav for his play on Friday in New Jersey. And it was a 3-1 Devils win, but on two power play goals plus an empty netter. Now, we have been watching that trend on this trip of the Sharks scoring first and then going on to follow it up with a winnable effort. And tonight, that happened again. The Sharks are on the power play here just about 5 minutes into the game. Mlin Celibbrini running that flank position to perfection. So much patience here before softening up the zone and getting it to William Ecklan on the near side. Ekki wasted no time to catch and release. The puck actually went off Yonis Broaddin’s skate, but she’ll absolutely take that. We’ll show you a couple different replay angles. It all happened so quick and eventually the slow-mo tells a better story. Goal number three and counting on the season for a one- nothing Sharks lead and statement made. And the next goal was historic. Playing in just his fifth NHL game tonight, Michael Misa had been right around a lot of scoring chances in the first four games. and just felt due to light the lamp sooner than later. Anybody who’s been watching had to know that this was coming to the point where our cameras had specifically been following 77 during this shift. As soon as Timothy Wilder skates it in from the left point, Misa goes right to the net and gets rewarded. Milrren walks in, shoots, and Michael Misa scores his first National Hockey League goal. So almost exactly 4 months to the date that San Jose selected Michael Misa second overall in the NHL draft, he’s in the NHL with his first goal and third point overall. Precisely 18 years and 252 days old and having this celebratory chat with Drew. Congratulations on your first National Hockey League goal. How does that feel? Yeah, it feels good. Um, you know, moment I’ve been waiting for. I thought I’ve been playing good and I was getting chances but nothing was going in. So, you know, glad I glad I got that first one. How was it for you? Like I said, just during that first period, you don’t look out of place. You look like you understand where you got to be and where you got to go. What are your first feelings about your own play, your your critique of yourself? Yeah, I know. Like you said, um I think it’s been a bit of a learning process. Um you know, I think from game one to like game five for me now, um you know, I think I’ve gotten better each game. Um just trying to get more comfortable out there and, you know, play my game, make some plays. So the Sharks up two nothing, but the Wild would respond and quickly two goals within 32 seconds before the first stanza was complete. Johansson on the power play assisted by Rossi and then Rossi at even strength assisted by Capri off. A hard dose of reality for San Jose until the Sharks went back to back on their own right near the midway point of this game. Just after the 11minute mark, watch Philip Kurichev create this turnover and then s one up to William Mecklland. A hot hand for San Jose as Ekki went five hole for his fourth goal in the season. All of a sudden, the Sharks with a little bit of breathing room and trying to break this game open. Very next shift, Barklay Goodro in on the forche and winning that wall battle. As soon as the puck came loose, Goody got it to Ryan Reeves who went right to the front of the net. Goal number two on the season for Reeves. And this was just 19 seconds after the Eklan goal. So, the Sharks now up by a 4-2 count. Now, it’s third period. The Wild had just got a power play goal from Hartman at 428. But great response by the Sharks on a power play of their own. Celebrini is the setup man. Just look at him feather this thing on the backhand. It’s like he knew exactly where Uncle Tyler would be. Well, because of course he would. That makes it 53 Sharks. However, yeah, the Wild come back from down two again. and goals by Buham and Erikson. And we head to overtime tied at five. And in overtime, the Sharks first three players out there were Liginrren, Ecklund, and Wenberg. And they played just fine. Unfortunately, they got stuck in their own end. Couldn’t get off for a change. They were out there for more than like three and a half minutes. And it just seemed like the Wild were going to wear them down until this happened. Get off. Still can’t get off. going to gamble and go off. Here come the Wild. Threeon two. Favor saved by Ascarov. And a chance now for celebrating. Celebrating in scores. What a goal. What a win. Sharks win it in overtime. Wow. I’ve never seen an overtime like it. That is absolutely incredible. Unbelievable. Mlin Celibbrini on only arguably the second time the Sharks had the puck in overtime puts it away. His second OT winner on the road trip and the Sharks go home with a huge victory. What an incredible job by Ascarov and a a risky move by William Mlin to hustle off and then Mlin Celerrini hustles on. There’s the shot. There’s the save. Goodbye. Mlin Celerini takes off. Brock Faber leaves him in the dust and then boom. Quick shot wins the game. This is absolutely as you said Randy incredible. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a major league we’re going to win this. I got it moment for Mlin celebrating. Wow. What were you thinking on the bench when those guys couldn’t get the puck or get off? Yeah, I mean that’s a tough spot. Um especially with those guys buzzing around, especially when you’re tired, it’s hard to hard to make a play. But um yeah, I mean I thought we did a great job weathering it and um just kept in it. It bit of a gamble though for William Mecklan to to come off the ice there. I mean when you were you yelling at him with the bench yelling at him or is it his decision I just gota get off? I think it was a little bit of both. I think uh the bench might have been yelling at him to get off just to get a new body on. Um but I mean asking made a huge stop there. So Mlin a 500 road trip as this ends. Uh if you look at it from the overhead view, obviously you want to have success every night, but that’s not a bad road trip for you guys early in the season. Agree. Yeah. I mean, especially after the start we had, um that was huge getting those points. Um figuring out a way to win both those games. I mean, tonight, I mean, they were all over or uh they kind of got on us and scored a couple lucky ones. So, um I thought we did a great job just kind of staying with it. They did a great job. you know, then what I think they didn’t really exert energy uh outside of the, you know, the dots in the middle of the ice, which was was important so they don’t get exhausted. Um, you know, obviously we were kind of hemmed there for a little bit, so we couldn’t get a change. Um, you know, we took a chance there on the one and we kind of asked him to make the huge save and and Ma obviously finishes it. And what can you say about your goalie in overtime? He was great all night. Um, he made some really big saves. Uh, obviously we we couldn’t um, you know, win in regulation, but he was he was very good all night and and kept us in the game and uh, obviously when we needed him most, he was there for us. One other thing that also absolutely deserves to be mentioned here was the play of Yaroslav Ascarov. Yeah, five goals for the Wild were more than probably the Sharks wanted or expected, but two of them by Minnesota were on the power play. And yeah, ASI with some very incredible saves in the overtime period alone, but throughout the game to help secure victory. So, the Sharks in the road trip with two pretty incredible overtime wins and a 500 road trip.

  1. What the hell are we playing at my Minnesota Frost know how to close out games in regulation at that barn and yet my Sharks play loose and fast

  2. For the people in Europe who have to watch the games afterwards, as they are played during the night, it would be so good that you would not spoil the end result in the thumbnail. Please.
