LA Kings vs Chicago Blackhawks NHL Hockey Game 9 Live Game Cast & Audio

And I just I really like that mindset and he’s such a positive guy and I’m sure you you take that away from your interaction with him. I haven’t seen him near as much as you have, but he’s just he’s upbeat. He’s positive. Never seemed to have a bad day. And I think that rubs off in his team and and as a result, you know, there’s a lot of pos positive energy on the ice. I I certainly feel that from him. And even something I’ve noticed too in practices as the trumpets are blaring on in the background. Um, I’ve noticed something in practices where Jeff will halt a drill and he he’ll lay into the guys if it if there’s a turnover, if there’s a mis pass, it’s not tape to tape passes and every single eyeball and ears are listening and watching him like as they’re tentative. And I think that is indicative of how much he has their attention and how much they value his uh his voice and the assistance as well. It’s it’s beautiful to watch and I it can’t be overstated, understated, whatever the right word is, that how much of an effect he’s had on this young roster. Yeah, he commands respect. He commands attention. Uh I’ll go one better though. I Mike Keenan here for four four years. So, he would blow the whistle and grab his stick and just toss it. This is the old Chicago stadium. He would throw it as high as he could into the old stadium and then we knew we were in trouble. Uh only days at practice for you guys. Now with Jeff, it’s a little different. Um, but he’s a teacher and you know what, let’s remember, he’s been a head coach before and he was in Detroit for I don’t know how many years it was. Developed a lot of great young players and then he gets fired and I don’t care who you are, you know, you could be Joel Quenball. That that’s things that hurts. And then, you know, he had to lick his wounds. He became assistant coach. I think he learned a ton under John Cooper. Um, an awful lot. John Cooper one of the top three coaches in the entire NHL. and now um you know he’s he’s building his own book and I think sometimes you’ve got to be fired before you realize a how important the job is and b how special it is to be a coach in the NHL because there’s only what 32 job openings. So he’s taken it very seriously and boy great results thus far. One of the things Jeff Blas said that he learned under John Cooper was how much John Cooper delegates responsibilities to his assistants. And he’s like, I want my assistants to also run meetings. So that way they’re not the the players are not always hearing my voice and it devalues my voice. And so now like Jeff when he first started coaching, he would do all the you know he would do all the talking, all the team meetings and sometimes maybe it’s just it’s the same voice every single day. Yeah. But something that he has now empowered his assist. So that way when he speaks it’s like okay it’s meaningful message when you know the head coach is speaking. Yeah. And that shows confidence too. You know you’re willing to hand the reigns to somebody else. And it’s a team effort and you know I’m sure Michael Pekka’s helping out with a lot of defensive stuff whether it’s a penalty kill or whatever. And he’s not afraid to let those guys speech. Yeah. Delegate. I mean I think you’ll get the best out of people when they all think they’re a part of it. And not only the coaching staff, but the players, too. Everyone, you know, you’re only as as strong as your weakest link when it comes to a hockey team. And I think everyone feels that they’ve had a hand in all of these victories. And when you look at it, they really have. Yeah. One one last thing I I love about Jeff Lashel, too, is he’s been very animated on the bench. If a call doesn’t go his way or if he does disagree with with an official, he’ll go to the front of the bench and he’ll kind of create a separation between players, hop in front of the front row. And I think when you see we saw Joel Quinnville do that a lot here in Chicago, too. When the players see that, they’re like, “All right, we want to run through a wall for this guy because this guy has our back.” So, I think that that’s also they their guys are feeding off of that. Well, the flip side of that is, and I just found this out today. Darren Ping asked a great question. He went to Wes McCaulay and he was asking about something that happened three games ago. Wes was like, “Hang on a sec.” Okay. Oh, yeah. I didn’t remember. And so that’s also I think a wise thing to do is sometimes, you know, let the uh let the emotion kind of evaporate and then then talk talk to the talk to the referee like in a civil tone. But um yeah, you’re right. You know that the coach has got your back and and and he’s he’s pulling for you. You’re sure as hell is going to pull for him when you’re when you’re out on the ice. All right, let’s see if the Hawks can extend their point streak to six games tonight against the LA Kings. That’s going to do it for the FanDuel sports book. Chicago Blackhawks pregame show. The Chicago Blackhawks point streak has now reached five games with a chance to make it six straight tonight as their opponents, the LA Kings, went the distance last night down in Nashville in a shootout loss. So for the Hawks, this is an opportunity to capture a couple home points from what uh well be may well be a tired opponent. We’ll find out soon. Hi again everyone, John Weidman along with Steve Conroyd and Charlie Renelli. Want to welcome you into our broadcast this evening. It’s the Blackhawks and the Los Angeles Kings for the first of three meetings. Steve, this LA Kings team, sometimes you wonder how how teams keep going on. I mean, they have lost the last three seasons to the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the playoffs, which means you got to go in the summer. You got to do your workouts. You got to get yourself mentally ready for the next training camp and then rinse and repeat. And you wonder what kind of a Kings team we’re going to see early on here in this season. They’re 33 and three coming into this game, but you wonder, does this team have an identity? Is it something they’re searching for? And have the Blackhawks already found theirs? Yeah, that’s a really good point. They got a new general manager, too, and Kenny Holland. Uh, longtime GM there, Rob Blake. Uh, they mutually parted ways. So, Ken Holland took the reigns, made a couple of minor tweaks. Listen, John, this team at 105 points last year. They finished ahead of the Edmonson Oilers. They’re a good team. Defensively, they were outstanding. They were beasts at home. I think they had the best home record in the entire NHL. Um, they had uh, you know, they they were firing at all cylinders. Uh, the goalending was outstanding. And right now, I think they are looking for their identity. They’ve lost a lot of close games. I think most of the games they’ve been involved in have been onegoal games. And on the flip side of that, yes, I think the Blackhawks are are are certainly creating an identity for themselves. They’re scrappy. They’re skilled. They’re fast. Uh it’s a never say die attitude. It’s a never say die team. And uh there’s a lot of good vibes down on that ice and they are a lot of fun to watch and talk about as you all know. All right, let’s get to some sponsored items starting with who’s going to deliver. It’s sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric Heating and Air Conditioning. Electric heat pumps for a better environment inside and out. Visit get a comfy home.com. Well, my old colleague Chris Bowden would call this the lowhanging fruit and I can’t resist. Ryan Donado has a 4game point streak. He’s actually scored five goals in that time. He’s got the hot hand, Touch Wood. So, I’m going with Ryan Donado. John, you picked him four or five games ago. So, I think that got him on the roll. So great job by me. I’m going with a guy who’s kind of cold right now. Table Terravine has scored in the first game. Scored a goal in the first game. He has not scored since. I had a nice sit down talk with him today. He’s going to experience the Steve Conroy player interview. He’s going to score tonight. He’s going to get the karma. Huh. All right. He’s got the keys for tonight’s game sponsored by your Chicago and Northwest Indiana Hyundai dealers. And Steve’s got your keys. Well, first off, stay out of the penalty box. Uh LA, last year they didn’t have a great power play. this year seventh in the NHL about 24%. And when you guys when you have guys like Kopitar and Kempy and Fiala and Biffield out there, in fact, they have five forwards on the first power play unit. Make sure you’re not taking needless penalties. Uh secondly, get the Forsber. That’s their goal tender and onto Anton Forsber. They might be familiar to Blackhawk fans. Played for the Chicago Blackhawks for a few years. Uh just one win and in the one win he allowed five goals. So, um he’s a little shaky right now. Maybe you can get to him early. And finally, keep this train rolling. Uh, and I talked to Charlie Romelotus about this minutes ago. Sometimes winning begets winning. They’ve got a great attitude on the ice, a great attitude in the dressing room, and you just want to make sure those positive vibes keep growing and growing. All right, Steve, thanks for that. And who are you banking on tonight, Steve? Sponsored by Marquette Bank. Love where you bank. Celebrating 80 years of neighborhood banking. You did mention Tavo Terabin a little while ago. You sticking with him? Yeah, I’ll stick with him. Tavo, uh, he’s my guy. You know, he’s a great penalty killer. We saw him score in game number one. Um, yeah, I I really enjoyed my talk with him. He’s feeling more and more comfortable and and he’s getting the system. Yeah, I’m banking on Tavo tonight. You mentioned Adrien Kempe for the LA Kings. He’s got five points so far on this three-game road trip and he seems like to be the emerging star in LA with Anzie Copitar’s departure imminent and of course his career. He’s in his 20th season in the National Hockey League and terrific player. He’s always been. He really has. The NHL will miss him because he’s there’s none finer but Kempe. Yeah. Watch him every time he’s on this. He can skate. He can shoot. Got a real high hockey IQ. Very dangerous player for them. Number nine for the LA Kings. All right. Well, at the stage has been set. The teams have lined up on their respective blue lines. We’ll have hockey momentarily. But right now, we’re going to send it down to ice level as tonight’s presentation of our national anthem is proudly sponsored by Berwin Western Plumbing, a proud partner of Plumbers 911. And for the anthem, as we always do, we send it down to our good friend Jim Cornelison along with some very special guests from our military. Hawk fans, please enjoy our national anthem. Cornelison perform our national anthem. Oh, say can you see by the early light so proudly we hel and the twilight last gleaming whose fright and Bright star through the perilous for the weird of gall the night that our flag was still there. Oh my spangled. Oh, I wonder. None finer than Jim Cornelison with our Star Spangled Banner. Well, here are tonight’s starting lineups. in goal for the Los Angeles Kings, former Blackhawk goalender Anton Forsber, who in his career is 1-1 and one with one shut out against the Blackhawks. At defense for the Kings are Brian Dumlan and Drew Dowy. Up front from left to right, Kevin Fiala starts at left wing. Centering the Kings opening line is Quinton Biffield. And starting at the right wing, Alex Leferier. For the Blackhawks, it’s Arvid Solder Bloom in goal. He also has won one and one in his career against the LA Kings. At defense are Wyatt Kaiser and Archam Neptino. Up front from left to right, Andre Burkovski, the new popup starts at left wing, centering the Hawks opening line. Connor Bernard, Ilia McKay right wing. By the way, for this opening faceoff, McKay and Baroski have flip-flopped one each on the other wing. Our referees this evening are Gourd Wire and Cody Beach. Linesman Arto Quinn and Trent No. First of three innings between the Blackhawks and the Kings set to begin. Down the center ice we go. The dart facing off with Pfield to get it started and the drop of the puck. We’re underway and the Hawks control. Kaiser at the Hawk blue line passing over to Archimonoff. He’ll spin it up the right wing side and Barakoski lifts the puck down to the right wing corner. Kings zone but the Kings will take it back. Here’s Kevin Fiala from St. Island Switzerland moving it across the rink on the right wing side to Drew Dowy and he’ll carry it back into the King zone. Put it over Brian Dumalan king line right wing side rink wide pass misses Fiala Hawks get the puck backsy playing it back down deep into the far corner Hawk end. Mike Kaiser drove the puck behind the net up the left wing Morris center ice and Brian Dumlan will just fire it down the glass and back in behind the Hawknit. The teams are now in line changers. 19/19 on the clock for period number one. Glad to have you along. John Whiteman along with Steve Conroyd and Charlie Minnelliotus. Sunday evening hockey here at the United Center. Blackhawks and Kings inside the Kings Zone in the right wing corner. Table Terabin’s got the puck in his skates being checked by Mikey Anderson. He’s the brother of Blackhawk player and Rockford player Joey Anderson. Now in the near corner, Frank Nazar falls down under one of the game referees. Puck comes free to the left wing board. Carbine flipped it behind the king net to the right wing corner number Tabine at right point. He’ll snap it in on goal and Fors had trouble with it. Trevor Moore will stick up the puck, move up the left wing side and lift it down to the hot glue line. Always a good play. Get the puck deep and then get it back to your point. They’ll probably be open. Conor Murphy was just an easy rift shot and uh for the Blackhawks taking note there on Anton Forsber not the cleanest of rebounds coming off his body. Cody Cece made a pass ahead that missed all his teammates. It goes down. Icing is the call. Faceoff comes down inside the King zone. And we’ll see which circle the Hawks decide to enact this faceoff in. Looks like it’s going to be in the circle to Forsber’s right. Yeah, good to see Jason Dickinson back in the lineup. I just think he brings a different element when he’s in there. The team just seems a little faster up front when number 16’s dressed up. Chasing off former Deno and the drop of the puck. The Kings will get it in the near corner. Grant Clark slammed into the corner glass by the Hawks. Landon Slagger, but he shot the puck down ice into the Hawkin and then Colton Doc will wheel with it behind the net then come out the center ice. Doc on the left wing side tried to snap it past Adrien Kempe. Kempe took the puck away but he gave it back to the Hawks. Sam Renzel Hawk blue line shot it ahead for Dickinson. King line. He deflects the puck off the right corner boards in the Kingston. Puck comes out taken by Doc in the right circle. He turns to fire and that deflects wide. Swaggered back in the net working against the Kings. Joel Edmonson leaving the puck in the right hand corner. Colton Dock. He’ll drag it up the boards and then dropped it back behind himself to the corner for Dickinson. He’s being checked to the sideboards there by Kopitar and Arjino stabs the puck out of there to Dickinson. He’ll clear to center ice. Captain Nick Felino on it over the center ice circle. flips it off the far side boards down behind the net. Dowy winds it around and it’s passed ahead by Edmonson to Joel Armia. He shot the puck off the glass behind the Hawk net. The Hawks end up taking the puck back. Matt Grizzlick with it behind the net to Leinoff in the near corner. Leanoff skating it up the left wing to center ice runs into Cory Perry, former Hawk and formerly a player six other NHL teams. lay taken back at center ice. The Kings get it. Turkot will dump the puck down behind the Hawknet. Picked up in the far corner by Lechinoff. Now the Hawks on the attack. Here’s Felo taking a pass from Dris. Look at the King line, but he runs into one of the linesman. The puck deflects down in behind the King net. Drew doubt. He got it there. Head to Kevin Fiala. The Quenton Biffield at the hot blue line. Misplayed the puck. Poke checked away but then taken back by Leferier. He’ll fire from the top of the right circle and a glove save made by Arvin Solder. So, no score in the game. 1633 left in period number one. Yeah, a solid first save for Soder Bloom. Basically, right into his midsection, but you always want to feel the puck early in a hockey game. Just kind of feel like you’re part of it. Get into it and he does with that shot from the Ferriair. It’s one thing this LA King team does, and they did it great last year. One of the best goals against Savage in the entire NHL. They’re pretty tight in their own zone. And the Blackhawks, and I know it’s early, we’re only three and a half minutes in, but they’ve done a real good job cycling pucks along the boards. They might get some good looks so they can bring the puck off the boards, get it to the front of the net. Well, Alex Lefarier will step in and take this face off against the Hawks, Jason Dickinson, who’s now been tossed out of there. Dickinson pleading his case with the linesman as if to say, “Come on, just drop the puck, will you?” And now stepping in to take the draw is going to be Connor Bard. Bard wins it decisively to the board. Kaiser in the near corner gets possession, lifts the puck through the air and down ice into the King zone. This will enable a completion of a line change for the Hawks. Mikey Anderson with a lead pass ahead by field of the hot blue line. Off his stick into a hot zone. Lick KVier winds it behind the net up the right wing side. Veroski taps a freehawk line. Head to Connor Badard. He’s into the King zone down the right wing side. Snaps it around the glass, but it’s taken back by the Kings. Barrier air to center front of the Hawk n backhands the puck down behind the net. Sold bloom out the plate around off the glass and up into the protective netting. So we get our another whistle on another stoppage of play and another face off inside the Hawk zone. Soda Bloom maybe can’t play the puck quite as well as Spencer Knight can, but he still comes out and makes a pretty good play high off the glass. Unfortunately, was a little too high on the glass. Ended up getting caught up in the uh in the netting and a guy taking a draw. Philip Deno, long time uh Chicago Blackhawk, went to Montreal and finds himself Well, he’s been the LA Kings now for a number of years. Yeah, he has. Yeah, that trade in 2017 brought Dale Whis and uh Thomas Fleshman to the Blackhawks for the 2017 playoffs. And the Blackhawks went out in four games and hit the Nashville Predators. But they got to try, I guess. Unfortunately, they had to part with a very good young hockey player in Deno. Inside the Hawk Zone behind the net, Conor Murphy takes a hit, put a pass on the left wing side. Matt Grizzlick got tied up along the boards. Knocked down from behind by Trevor Moore, but recovers the puck and then lost it to Dano back of the net. Then he steps in front of Dano. We get a whistle. We have a Kings player injured down in the near corner in the Hawk zone. This is Warren Fogle very slow to get up. Looks like he’s holding his his elbow, clutching it to his midsection. Probably I would guess a shoulder maybe. Yeah, could be a shoulder. He’s an important part of that team. The take out by Nick Felino didn’t look like much, but I think maybe the way he either got pinned or the way he fell on it. It’s so easy to dislocate a shoulder if you just, you know, get hit the wrong way. And Warren Fogle, longtime Edmonton Oiler, the LA Kings went out and got him last year. And oh boy, instant div. He’s he’s a fast player. He’s a big body, too. not afraid to get involved physically, but Nick Felino just ch as uh finishing his check and Fogle goes down with the injury. Nick didn’t do anything malicious. He was just trying to, as you said, finish the check without doing anything more than finishing a check the way you would in a hockey game. Unfortunately, looked like Fogle got his arm caught up against the glass and I’m sure that affected his shoulder in some way. We’ll see if we can get some kind of a report. Back in the King zone, Edmonson takes the puck and sticks it off the glass deep into the Hawk zone. Conor Murphy back to get it in front of the net. He’ll wheel out passing it ahead. Termin center ice deflects it to Nazar over the line. Then an auto right circle was a bouncing puck. Couldn’t corral it. Yoel Ario will take the puck and lift it down ice into the Hawk zone. The Kings will now get a line change. Back in the Hawk in Alex Blic skating it ahead of the left wing to center ice. Fires the puck down behind the King net. Horsesburg got the plate around but not out. Terrain into Nazar right circle turns and fires and that hit looked like it hit Donado in front of the net. Andre Koosme with the puck along to Ray Pors passing out the center ice to Duman. Now Kosmeco front of the penalty boxes with the puck. Send it back to Drew Dowy passing on the left wing. Kopitar Hawk line to KMO right point sticks it in behind the Hawk. Yeah, a nice strip of the puck there by Renzel from Kopitar, but then Kempe took it back and then Renzel took it right back. Throws it up the right wing side to Doc. There’s the center ice. Here’s Terrain and dumping it off the glass and down behind the King net. The Hawks will go for a change. Now the puck taken away by Colton Dock from Forsber. Doc along the left sideboards and spins it down behind the net. Dickinson there. They’ll send it back in behind in the left wing corner to Doc. Doc fighting off of a check from Kopitar. got himself free in the left wing corner. Gave the puck to Dickson behind the net. A wraparound try and a six save made. Loose puck dock. Got it back. Bottom of the right circle. Feeds the left point. Kaiser firing from there. That was blocked by Cory Perry down to the left wing corner. Swagger. Back to Kaiser. Walking the deep slot. He fires. Just save me. This puck and a shot from Slagger from the right circle. Goes through the crease and wide. Dickensson left point. Floats one in front. This goes wide. There’s Nate go along the far sideboards. will touch the puck in behind the King net to Drew Dy and the Hawks are in the midst of getting a line change and a little applause from the Carson crowd. John, that’s a great shift. You know, it’s your third fourth line out there and they own the boards and against LA that’s tough because LA is a big heavy tough team and they just they just own those boards. Conor Bernard strips the puck away from down racing in the King’s own right circle to Dragon and the kick save made and loose puck taken away. Now Burkowski got it back at the line and then Cody Cece of the Kings checks it to center ice. Mave runs into Alex Turkot front of the Kings bench. Strips the puck away into the Kings. Put it on goal. He score. And I believe this is going to be Conor Mard’s goal. He tipped it just enough to get it past Forsber at 704 period number one. The Hawks take a one- nothing lead and it is going to be Conor Bernard’s marker. Well, with that goal, it’s time to break out the Bandido. Celebrate every goal this season with Bandido Yankee Tequila. And I just continue to be impressed by Ilia Mai. He feeds it through. It ends up coming back to him. The original pass to Bard gets stopped, but it comes right back to his stick. He gets it to Bard eventually, and boy, what eye hand coordination that is. Out of midair, he tips the puck. It goes off the post. Forsber ends up kicking it into his own net. from the Blackhawks for the early lead. Stanford Conor Bard. That’s goal number three on the season. That’s his first goal in five games from Ilia McKay. The goal at 704 here. Now a shot from Doc from the top of the right circle. King Zone goes wide. Ryan Green recovers the puck out near the left point. Sends it down to the left wing corner. Nick Felino there to get it. Felo turning on by field. Here’s behind the net. Put it to the right wing corner to Doc. Checked into the boards by Anderson, but the puck taken away by Green now from by field. The Murphy deep slot hammers a shot on goal. Stopped in front. Loose puck taken away to the inboards by Anderson. And he got some room and the Hawks will quickly go for a line change as the Kings come up ice. CC with a pass ahead by Field. Hot blue line. Redirects the puck down behind the net. Lassic has it there. Bank pass up the left side. Tamine into center ice to Dano coming by into the King zone. and he’ll lift it down ice into the crease and Forsber will plop on the puck and hold it. Whistle. No further play. 1157 left in period number one here at the United Center. It’s the Hawks one and the Kings no score. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Hey hockey fans, it’s Chris Chelios. One- nothing in favor of the Hawks on the Connor Badard goal at 704. Now Donado’s been tossed off the dot. It’s going to be Taylor Terabin and facing off with the Kings. Philip Deno. Deno wins this draw to the corner. Grant Clark sticks the puck behind his net. Joel Edmonson moving it ahead to center ice up the left wing to Trevor Moore. He spins it down the glass into the Hawk rides around the near side. Donado’s got it. Donado left wing to center ice to Terraine and to Nazar over the King blue line. This play is whistled down on the off side. Well, who’s hot? Who’s cold is sponsored by Plumbers’s 911 Chicago where they do it right the first time. Who’s hot? Ryan Donado. As John mentioned, he has a goal in four straight games. Actually, five goals and an assist in that time and two goals against Tampa Bay in that big win. And who’s cold? The Colorado Avalanche this afternoon. They lost their fourth game in a row, 01 and three. They lost in a shootout to New Jersey Devils. And how about New Jersey? Eight and one on the season after that afternoon win. These kids are maturing, Steve. They sure are. Boy, are they going to be good for a long time, too. Back inside the King zone on a delayed offside. Cody Cece sticks the puck ahead. Kopitar to the Hawk line. He’s hit. Turn the puck over. Dickinson goes rinky with a pass intended for Doc, but it banks down ice beside the King’s net. Forsber guides it behind the net to the near corner. Then Dickinson runs into Anderson behind the net. They both go down. Kopitar ends up with a puck. Spins it ahead for Cece at the King line on the right wing. He tried to hand the puck ahead for Kosmeco, but it’s knocked back into the LA zone. Here’s Kuzako now taking an outlet pass from Anderson over the center ice circle. Gave it to Adrien Kempe. Whips it across on the left wing into the Hawk zone. This was intended for Turkot. Taken back, however, by Renzel who works the puck into the King zone. The Kings get it back. Dudy a pass to Leferier crossing a Hawk line left wing to the corner turns and flips it back to the point. Dumalan hammers a shot that goes wide. Dowy at the right point spins it back down behind the net. Round to Dumalan along the left sideboards from Pitifford Maine. Duman will turn. Gave it ahead in the left circle. Turkot fires. Never got through to a Hawk net. Classic behind the net. Passing up the left wing side. Ilia McKay. Shot it across now to Renzel. ahead to Madard over the center ice circle then to Burkosski front of the benches and he’ll flip it back into the hawk zone to Classic between the circles. A pass ahead from McKay of Kings line broken up by Dowy who snapped the puck to the Hawk line. Classic took it there to McKay to Felino over the King line left wing. Hard wrist shot and a blocker save made by Forsber. Loose puck around on the farboards. Kevin Fiala of the King put it over to Kusmeo had the Fiala center ice. He cough topped up the puck into the hot zone and now a bank pass ahead to the King line ends up deflecting up into the LA bench. So we get a whistle stamping play. 943 left in period number one. It is in Niles and I’ve been meaning to get over there. I’m hearing all these great things about it. I can’t wait to go in there. I’m gonna take my wife with me because she’s got a better eye for clothing than I do. I couldn’t pick two things out to match it to save my life. But she can go into a store and she’s got like that radar, you know. Oh, that’s a cool looking shirt and that’s a great looking suit and that tie, you know. So, people are just born with that. I wasn’t. Most women do. Yeah. Inside the Hawks out at the right point. Grant Clark moving the puck down the bfield. He’ll wheel back to the high slot, launch a long shot on goal, and a glove save made by Solder Bloom. And he’ll hold it. Just the second shot on net, and we’re over 10 minutes into this first period by the LA Kings. That was from long range. The first one was a relatively easy stop by Soder Bloom. And you know, nice to see because what the last time he played was it October 5th. Long long time. I I think it was the the night in St. Louis, right? Against the St. Louis one. Yeah, that’s right. 8-3 victory in St. Nice. So, it’s been a while since he’s been between the pipes and yeah, you just welcome shots like that relatively easy. You get the feel of the puck. You get the flow of the game and uh he should feel like he’s in this one now. He handles the puck behind the net. He actually deflects it away now to Grizzlick who put it back in behind to Murphy. Passing up the right side, Nazar center ice then to in front of the benches to Donado. That play looked like it might have been offside. Donado into the King zone to the right circle. Snaps one through the crease. It goes wide. Nazar back in the net. Now we get a whistle stopping play. We’re going to get our first penalty of the game. Slashing will be the call. Not sure to whom. Looks like it’s going against the king. So, I got to correct myself. It’s 12 base since his last game and you know for backup goalie. That’s an Well, this is a sitco power play. Philip Deno gets the gate two for slashing. Score savings on every fillup with club sitco. Download the app now to start saving. Now the good news is Philip Deno one of the key penalty killers. So he will not be available. He’ll be in the penalty box and let’s see if the Blackhawks can work some magic. Penalty at 11:07 of period number one and the draw taken by the Kings and a clear by Leferier. This goes all the way down. Sandlum stopping the puck to the near side of the net. Renzel grabs the puck head to Nazar to Renzel over the center ice circle. whips it back to Bedard in the Hawk zone. He’ll charge out the center. Flip it down the right boards in behind the net. Forborg leaving it back. There’s some confusion. Bedard took it away from Cece to Terrain and along the right side board to Renzel at the line. He fires one toward the net. It deflects wide. Nazar from the left board to Renzel at the line. Deep slot to Terrain and top of the right wing circle. He’ll move into the slot. Leave it for Nazar. Right circle. Cross to Bernard. A one-time and a glove save made by Forsber. Great no look pass from Tavo Terravan to Bedard. Right in the wheelhouse earlier Nazar with an attempt towards the net and you know you hang this one on Anton Forsber. He really screwed it up with his defense. Cody Cece back there should have teed it up for him so Cece could shoot it down the ice. Instead he kind of mishandled it and as a result the Blackhawks kept possession and they kept it down in that end. Face off to Forsber’s right. Felo wins it cleanly. Renzel will work his way to the high slot. Give it to Vadar. Top of the left circle to Nazar. Bottom of the circle. He flipped it over into the right wing circle. That was off the stick of FelinO who got the puck back. And then Mikey Anderson checked from behind by Frank Nazar. That was pretty close to being a boarding call. Now the puck taken by Bard puts it back to the line off the stick of Renzel. Kopitar got it into the hawk zone down the left wing centering the puck. Picked off by Terrain. You know, Sam Renzel will learn from something like that when you’re the last guy back, especially with a guy like Hon Kopitar. You can’t make a a 50-50 move. You can’t make a hope move at the blue line. And that’s what he did. He lost the puck and Kopitar ended up throwing it away, but it was a partial break. Nick Felino back in the Hawks with the puck. Flips it behind the net. 30 seconds left on the power play. Andre Barakauski wheeling to center. Put it in over the Kings line to Donado. Right point. It’ll stick it down the boards to Barakoski back of the net. wind blinds it around at the near side, but this is going to elude Ryan Green the other way. Trevor Moore, he’s got the King short-handed goal. Moves down the right wing side and flipped it back to Dublin in the high slot, who then lost the puck into the crease and Solder Bloom will plop on it and hold on. That was an outstanding I mean an outstanding short-handed chance for the Kings. Yeah, it really was all off an unforced error. Borovsky thought he was throwing it back to his point man and nobody was there and it kind of turned into a little twoon-one threeon two and I actually think that Doomland got a pretty good shot off on Soder Bloom through a couple of legs and actually you’re right upon looking at the replay. Yeah, unless unless he got it might have got stopped by somebody in front. I don’t think so. I think he just made the original stop and more importantly no rebound coming off his body. So great short-handed look by the Kings. Ryan Green to face off with Trenton Biffield. Bifffield’s been tossed off the dot. These linesmen don’t have a ton of patience here this evening. I’m not sure why. Maybe you make those points early in the season. You don’t have to do it as the season draws on. Ya and Green face off. Green wins the draw. Left picks up the puck, wheels out to the Hawk line, leaves it there with six seconds. Green will come along. Got it to Donado over the King line on the left wing. Stripped of the puck by Biffield. Kings come to full strength. Now Edmonson sticks the puck off the left sideboards and down behind the net. Solder Bloom plays it around the glass held in by Dowy. Right point. Fires a knuckle ball on goal and a butterfly save made by Arvid Solder Bloom. Green will pass the puck ahead. Donado at center ice. Dumps it off the right corner boards and then rides Edmonson into the end boards. Here’s Prebier with a blast from the right point. Stick save made by Forsber. Edmonson sends it up the farboards and it ends up at center ice. Slider poke the puck back into the King zone putting the Hawks offside and this may bring the faceoff back into the Hawk zone. Let’s see. I believe they’ll keep it at center ice. Yes, they will. Yeah, not an intentional offside. Uh the Blackhawks dodged the bullet there. Power play, not a lot of good looks and then that inadvertent pass from Barakovsky turned into a basically a threeon two. with a good look by Jamlin. But tell you what, Harvis Sodloom has been very good in this hockey game. Just four shots, but I’d say three of the four shots pretty good. Pretty good scoring chances. I would agree. Now back in the Hawk zone, Krebier tracking down a loose puck will carry behind the net. Creier along the far boards hit pretty helpfully by his fellow Quebecer Leferier. Leferier now between the circles. Pokes the puck away to the near corner. Landon Slagger got it for the Hawks. Skate ahead to center ice. dumps it ahead for Dickinson over a stick to the left wing corner. Drew Dowy sent it behind the net at up the left wing side to the no to Lefer in front of the benches. He’ll dump the P left the King Ray KMO the left point Edmonson to the right to Brent Clark. He’ll fire blocker save made there and the punt down the blue line they got center ice pulls up short of a line and the inboard the LA off game early though on the breakout he read the reverse stole the puck and they got a long shot into a hawk zone did a tow drive turned the puck over Nazar back the other way on a threeon over the line dropped pastine in high slot over to west the circle pass save made by Forsber. Goodation by Forsber. That was an excellent pass from Ter. The one-time just gets smothered by Forsber. Now, Donado from center ice in front of the benches. The puck to the left wing corner. King zone. Curley gets off on a change. The king along the right leaving it there for Turk. And a back picked off by Sam Renzel. Back to center ice. bet it on the right wing in over the king line at the right point. Sweeps the puck down behind the net. Forsber handing it off there to Cody Cece. He’ll flip the puck ahead down into the Hawk the right wing corner and Arma and Renzel battle for it there as does MV along with Turkot. Turkot from Elgrove Village and the scrum continues. You can hear the referee voice move it, move it. Finally, puck taken back by Arma to the line. Anderson drives it off the inboard. Turkot in the left circle. Tried to flip the puck in front and a clever play by Renzel to put the stick in the passing lane. Then sweep the puck ahead for Bard. It’s off his stick and down into the LA crease or outside the crease and it’s shot over the near glass by Forsber. Whistle stopped in play and we’re going to get a penalty called here. That puck got up into the crowd in a hurry. 31 minutes away. 402 left in period number one. Hawks won the Kings no score. We’re going to be back with a Hawk power play after this on 720 WGN. That’s a delay of game call. And Kevin Fiala serving the penalty. Two mistakes on that play for it. It might have been an icing and then he came out to play it and as you mentioned played it just a little too high over the glass. Yeah, that’s the lay of game. Knocks on another sitco power play. Here’s Bard into the King zone. We get a whistle for offside. Nar was just a scoch ahead into the zone. Score savings on Embry Phillip with club sitco. Download the app now to start saving. That’s the thing about Conor Badard. He is just so shifty and so elusive. unfortunately made that move just before the blue line, Nazar didn’t see it coming and he kept his speed and because of that little deak ended up putting himself offside. There’s Felino to face off with Kopitar, the two captains. And now Felo’s been tossed off the dot. Nick has some choice words for that linesman. He’s going to be Nazar now against Kopitar. Kopitar very good at the dot. This time Nazar is able to get the better of him. The dard takes a hand off from Renzel over the King blue line. Sticks it down the right side boards in behind the net to the left wing corner. Renzel grabbing it there. Actually now Nazar put it in behind in the right wing corner. There’s Bard and he’s pressed against the glass by Dumlan trying to use his skate to pin the puck against the yellow dasher and milk the penalty clock. It comes out to Kopar behind the net. He makes a smart play and whips it up the near and down. He’s just such a player. You know he’s standing 20 ft off of the scrum and the boards. He knew the puck would eventually come out of course comes right to his stick. Easy 200t clear for the big center. Ryan Green to center ice gave the puck to Doc over the King line. Tried to give it back to Green. Edmonson stepped into Green and simultaneously whacked the puck down to the hot glue line. Our Jim Leinoff with the handoff there. Donado cuts into the King zone but behind the play we’re going to get a whistle stopping play and a penalty to the Hawks. This will even up the size. Sorry, John Burkovsky. Little bit of interference there on Deno’s the call. Tripping’s the call. You know, as a power play, you try to supply little picks and that was just a little too much of a pick because he stuck his stick into the skates of Theo and Theo went down. Easy call for the referee. So, we’ll see four and four hockey for 44 seconds and then it’s going to be LA to the power play. But Flashell not happy with that call. He knows it was a mis he knows it was a penalty. He just didn’t like the time the timing of that penalty, you know, on the power play in the neutral ice area. You don’t need to be doing that. Especially late in the period when the Kings could potentially tie the score. You could take a one- nothing lead into the dressing room instead. Anyway, we’ll see what happens. Leinoff from behind the Hawk net makes a pass up the right side intended for Donado. This is taken away by the Kings. Drew Dowy into the Hawkill to Clark right point. Sticks the puck down behind the Hawk net around to the left point to Trevor Moore down to Dowy. Left wing corner. The puck leads off his stick blade taken away by Matt Gri. 20 seconds left in the four against four. Grizzlick in center ice. Gave the puck to Donado over the King line left circle leaving it there for Grizzlick beside the board. He’ll carry back to center ice and then flip the puck over front of the benches. Lechenoff there to get it with six in the four against four situation now. Three, two, one. Lechnoff leaves the puck at the hot blue line. Jason Dickinson scoops it all the way down and they’re going to blow this dead for icing just as the Kings had come back to full strength. Too sure what Jason Dickinson was thinking there unless he thought it was the LA King player coming on the ice to make it a five on four. But yeah, he was clearly 5 10 ft short of the red line. puts it all the way down the ice. He’s still questioning the referee. He’s He’s having a dialogue with They are short. They put that back. They They had just come to full strength. So, my contention and Jason says, I’m sure, is that if they were at full strength, it wouldn’t be an icing. Yeah. We’d be killing a penalty. Yeah. So, but all right, they’re going to face it off circle to the right of Solder Bloom. And Kopitar wins the draw. Fial leading at the line. Kempe firing that hit by field on the way in. Kempe got it back at the line to Copatar. Left wing half courtboard. Back to Kee to Fiala. Top of the right wing circle reaching in. It’s M it away. Spins it off the boards and down. What a great deal is from M. Just a great pen. Fiala really with the too. It’s hard to check him in mid ice. That’s exactly what he did to get the clear. Adrian Kempe will play for team end up coming over. Pick drops off the puck but away by Alex Blic and from the Hawk line. He’ll down whailing out to center ice left wing. Stick it down the board to a hot zone behind the net into the near corner. You can hear the strumming for the puck. The Kings end up with it. Fiala the Kempe right point to Fiala top of the circle. One minute left in the period. Here’s the Alla back up to the right hand corner. Put up the net. Andre Kmeo to Kopitar out to the line. Kempe with a one-time pad save made by Sodone Terine and stripped with a puck in the high slot by KMO. But then an alert play there by Nazar to Corral a bouncing puck and backhanded all the way down as Barossky’s out of the box. And the Hawks are at full strength. Here’s Clark with the puck along the right sideboards. Moving it over to Jouty. Fires it ahead. dismisses everybody and a race to the puck in the near corner. This is Dano and Kaiser. They’re going to say that Dano beat Kaiser to the dots. So, no icing. I’m not sure I agree with that, but they play on. Dowy at the left point. Backhands the puck down behind the net. Kier fights off Cory Perry. Sticks the puck up the left wing side and it’s put to center ice by Swagger, forcing the Kings to regroup. We’re down to 8 seconds left in the frame. Here’s Clark with a lead pass on the left wing to Dan Owen of the Hawk zone, but reaching out a treb to pull it free. And that’s how the period will end. Yeah, the Blackhawks getting back to full strength is sponsored by Northwestern Medicine Orthopedics on a relentless pursuit of better medicine. And a really good period for the Blackhawks still a penalty late. They basically doubled up the LA Kings in shots with 116, but more importantly scored the lone goal of the period and ended up leading at one- nothing. We look at the faceoff wins and uh after one period according to the official statisticians the Blackhawks have won more than the Kings as far as the draws are concerned. The Kings have got some pretty good faceoff men over well they’re so big and strong down the middle whether it’s Kopitar or Biffield or even Philip Deno is no slouch in the faceoff dots. So yeah to win that battle uh that’s huge. It establishes puck possession and that’s that’s what the game’s all about. 11 to six were the shots in favor of the Hawks. The Hawks did have two power play opportunities and 0 for two. Uh, but they did kill off the Kings power play, although the Kings power play was a shorter one, but nonetheless, where it stands after one period is right where the Blackhawks wanted it. So, they’ve gotten what they’ve wanted to so far, and I guess we’ll see how periods two and three evolve, but so far so good. Good start. Let’s go downstairs and let’s join our guest. very happy to have Ilia McKaya with us and Ilia, thank you for joining us. You’ve been great at penalty killing. What’s what’s your secret to that? Uh I don’t know. I just play all life in the PK. I feel comfortable with this and I don’t know like just try doing my job good. Take us through that Connor Bard goal because it looked like you tried an original pass, the puck comes back to you, you get it to him again and he knocks it out of midair. Just what’s going through your head? Yeah, I saw like B flying and I try make some sauce fights but it’s uh it happens like some balance and uh but you keep after Ilia are you finding the Kings to be one of the bigger faster teams or what’s what are you finding about them so far after one period? Yeah, it’s a good team. Uh, you know, like a lot of skate, a lot of a lot of skills guys and uh you know these guys like uh have uh like these guys strong, you know, and it’s so interesting to play against these guys. It’s funny. I talked to your head coach Jeff Flashel this morning about your play and he just was he just really impressed with how many pucks you win along the board. He says you win a lot of battles. Is that something you take pride in? Uh, no. I just play, you know, I just try try uh be better and help help for the team for guys. All right, Ilia Mr. Udachi. Anytime. Thanks so much. In Russian, that means thank you and good luck. All right, one period in the books. The Blackhawks have a one- nothing lead over the LA Kings. We had seven other games on the NHL schedule. Uh, a couple of them have already gone final. Let’s start in New Jersey where the Devils defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4 to3 in overtime. It was Jack Hughes with the overtime winner for the Devils who have extended their winning streak to eight games. Wow. After an opening night loss, the uh the Devils eightgame winning streak, the Colorado Avalanche now have fallen to 03 and one in their last four games after a 50 and1 start. So the uh the Avalancher looking to get back in the win column here coming up, the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Golden the Vegas Golden Knights in overtime. That game just went final. We know he got to 999 against the Blackhawks, but he gets a thousand the the game after. And then he scores the overtime winner. So, it’s been a good three last three games for Nikita Cooerov. The San Jose Sharks are currently in the second intermission with the Minnesota Wild and they’re leading Minnesota 4-2. Michael Misa, the number two overall pick for San Jose in this last year’s draft. Has scored his first career NHL goals. So, congratulations to Misa. William Ecklund has two goals for San Jose. Let’s see if the Sharks can pick up their second win of the season in Minnesota. The a central division opponent of the Blackhawks. The also in the second intermission, the Utah Mammoth and Winnipeg Jets are tied two to2. Utah is going for their seventh straight win. Unbelievable start for the Mammoth. Nick Schmaltz, by the way, went into this game, I think he has an assist in this game. He went into tonight ranked second in the entire NHL with 50 points. The former Blackhawks winger has gotten off to a really good start for the Mammoth. And then the only other game going on right now, Nashville is up one to nothing on the Dallas Stars in the first intermission. Jonathan Marshaso has the lone goal on the power play for Nashville. Two later games, the the New York Rangers are in Calgary to take on the Flames. The Flames are 17 and one this season. Just one win in nine games. They are really struggling out of the gates here. And then the Vancouver Conucks are hosting the Edmonton Oilers tonight. Lucas Reichel, who was traded by Chicago on Friday uh to Vancouver. Reichel made his debut yesterday for the Canucks and he’s also going to play again tonight. So, a quick backto-backer for Riel out of the gates as he makes his Canucks uh debut yesterday and he’ll appear in his second game today. Other NHL news, the Montreal Canadiens announced yesterday that Patrick Line will miss four 3 to four months after having core muscle surgery. He had been out since October 16th and was originally ruled dayto day. So a really tough blow there for Montreal. And then Pittsburgh Penguins announced today that Ricard Raquel had surgery on his left hand and will miss 6 to 8 weeks. Tough news for the Penguins who have been one of the surprise teams in the NHL so far this season. Elsewhere in sports, the Bears four-game winning streak ended today in Baltimore as the Ravens beat the Bears 30-6 this afternoon. Bears committed 11 penalties in the loss. They look to bounce back in Cincinnati next week when they face the Bengals. And then NFC North action Sunday Night Football. The Aaron Rogers faces the Packers for the first time. Hawks are 40 and1 in their last five games. They’re looking to make it 50 and one in their last six. The last regulation loss for Chicago, the home opener on October 11th, which was 15 days ago. So hopefully Chicago can take advantage of a strong first period. What I thought at one point the I think midway through the first period the shot attempts were 14 to1 in favor of the Blackhawks. Now that evened out towards the the final stretch the the current total after the first period is 19 to13. So I think that if my math is my quick math is correct the LA Kings uh had the advantage in the shot attempts department 12 to five uh in the second half of that first period. But I thought it was a really good first half for Chicago. Uh unfortunately they didn’t get that full uh power play on their second opportunity because they got negated by an Andre Burkovski trip. So they played some fouron four for 44 seconds. But I thought it was a a really good strong period for the Blackhawks. Conor Bard jumped out to me in that first. Obviously he scored that goal, but he finished with three shots on goal. No other player on either roster had more than one. And uh he also got registered with a takeaway and he won all three of his faceoffs in the first periods and and LA they they got some really hard-nosed centers on this team with Kopitar and Philip Deno and Quinton Biffield who who’s a big body and so uh this is a a big test for some of Chicago’s young centers down the middle and I thought they they handled that test in the first period pretty well. I will say this LA is coming off a they played late last night in Nashville. uh played into a shootout and I believe uh I think I wrote down in my pregame notes, let me double check this really quick, but the LA Kings, yeah, the last four games for LA, all four of them have gone into overtime. So, they’ve played, yeah, six of their nine games this season have gone into extras. So, they’ve played a lot of hockey early on so far. And so, um if you’re Chicago, LA’s in the second of a backto-back, they’re they came from Nashville. They’re tired. And so you want to make sure that you you uh keep the the foot on the gas pedal here in the second period and build on the onegoal lead that they have in this first. We’ll take a quick break and then we’ll set up the second period next. You’re listening to Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. The Blackhawks Wildcats in the NFL play here on AM720 on Smart Speakers. Up next, the second period. Here’s Charlie Romelotus with your recap. Blackhawks and Kings are on the ice here at the United Center for the start of the second period. The Hawks lead the LA Kings one to nothing thanks to a goal by Connor Baddard with a little help from LA Kings goalender Anton Forsberg. Cody Stacey of the Kings. Pope checks it to center ice. Mave runs into Alex Turk front of the Kings bench. Strips the puck away into the Kings. Put it all on goal. He score. And I believe this is going to be Conor Mard’s goal. He tipped it just enough to get it past Morsburg at 704 period number one. The Hawks take a one- nothing lead and it is going to be Connor Bernard’s marker. That’s the third goal of the season for Connor Bard. Snapped a a mini fivegame gold drought as well. So nice to see him back in the goal column. What’s on deck is sponsored by Timbertech decking and railing number one in premium decking. Order free samples at timbert.com. As I throw it over to the guys, how about this boys? Anton Forsberg was credited with, not credited, discredited with three giveaways in that first period. You ever seen that before? A goal for goalie. Go for goalie. Maybe for me as a defenseman. Three giveaways a period. A goalie. Three. Three giveaways. Okay. Come on, Steve. Present company excluded. Okay. Well, thank you, Charlie. Well, they’re lined up at center ice. We’ll have action here momentarily. Don’t forget the Ottawa Senators come to town in a couple of nights. Unfortunately, Steve, the no Brady Kachchuck. Yeah. Yeah. They uh both Kachchuck brothers out of commission right now to start the year. Underway here in the second period. Lechinoff fires one down off the glass behind the King net. Theard recovers the puck along the left boards. Now at the point, flips it back over to Lechoff. It was a bouncing puck. Did his best to try and corral it and push it down the boards. And now bounces in between the circles and Lefairier there to take it away. put it head at center ice all the field over the hawk line to Lefarier in front with a backhand shot and the kick save made by Solder Bloom but a penalty is going to be called. Slashing will be the call. I believe Wyatt Kaiser the guilty party. Probably a good thing he dips one of those penalties you know he probably had to take it I think. Yeah, still a good stop by and he didn’t maybe maybe did he get the shot that he wanted to. Yeah, we’re talking about Lefar. What a pass by Quinton Bifffield though. The big man just saw one over to him. Fathered the puck perfectly and Leferier got it in stride. Really big stop there by Arvin Soderbloom. Penalty at 30 seconds of period number two. This will be LA’s second power play opportunity in the game. Faceoff circle to the right of Arvin Solder Bloom. It’s going to be Dickinson facing off of the Hawks against Kulpitar the Kings. And Dickinson wins this draw behind the net. Blic claims the puck. drove it around the glass but not out. Nice keep in by Kevin Fial. Great point. Adrien Kempe high slot and the puck poke checked away. Blic lead pass to McKay. Made another lead pass intended for Dickinson at the King blue line but it’s broken up by Kempe. Really good sticks by the penalty killer. Just breaking up a couple of plays along the board. Dickinson with the last one. Highfield that could make over the Hawk line on the right wing side. Snaps the puck down the boards behind the net into the left wing corner. Fiala jabs it back to the line. Kempe left point put it over the left wing side to Kopitar. Tracks back to the point holding the puck. Kopitar headed for the Hall of Fame on the first ballot. Put it down beside the net. Kosme slaps the puck up the slot. Kempe now to Kopitar left point. Kempe high slot to the top of the right circle. Kevin Fiala moving it down. KMO pop the right circle. Jams it in front and that hit a stick and deflects up and into the protected netting. They stop. Sorry, John. You really look for Quinton Biffield in front and he’s a big presence. He’s so good at protecting the puck and you know, one of those guys that you just kind of have to keep an eye on all four penalty killers because he makes himself available. He’s got a good shot and I talked about his awareness too. Uh he is turning into a really really good hockey player and obviously he’ll fill the skates of an Kopitar once he retires at the end of this season. Look at that last sequence of play. Arbit Solder Bloom got his stick in the passing lane there. The Arvid Solderbloom that we saw last year, maybe the year before probably wouldn’t have done that, but here in this year, he’s ever the wiser as a goalender and he’s on to what teams are doing, trying to pass the puck into the crease for a deflection. Yeah, maybe a little more confident, too. You know, you try to poke the puck and you miss it, you look pretty bad. But yeah, he’s he’s really grown as a goalender. Now in the near circle Hawk zone, Nazar takes the puck away. Head to Terrain in a twoon-one break short-handed. Terrain and then lifts the puck down to the left wing corner. King zone. Nazar slots it up the boards. Terrain will grab it and rag the puck. Put it back into the hot zone to Grizzlick and a bank pass up the right side. Terrain. Little hand off to Krevier at center. He’s over the King line down to the right wing corner. Lost the handles. Took it back to the end boards. kept it away from a couple of kings. Then the Kings end up taking it back. 15 seconds on their power play. Lefier into the hot zone. Lost to the left wing corner to Felo. Sent it behind the net but not out. Kept in by Clark to Dowy. Right point to Clark along the right sideboard. Put it to the slot. Leaf area. Back to Clark. Right circle. And a tough angle shot is gobbled up by Solder Bloom as Kaiser steps out of the penalty box. And the Hawks are at the really like the way the Blackhawks kill penalties and it’s very aggressive. Talked to Taylor about it this morning. He said, “You know what? The forwards have to skate a lot more. We’re pushing guys down the half boards. We don’t want anyone in the middle of the ice.” And he said, “It’s it’s a lot more taxing, but boy, it’s been very, very effective.” And I know right now the penalty kill, you know, not sparkling numbers, but not bad. 12th currently in the NHL, a little over 83%. So, it’s a work in progress. So we hear that from Jud Flashel all the time. Now here’s Leferier off the draw. He walks the puck to the Hawk net and backhands it on goal. Pad save made by Solder Bloom and Felino made a pass up the left wing to Slagger at center ice. He redirects the puck down into the LA zone. Renzel pinching from the right point to the halfboards to keep the play alive. Pokes the puck behind the net to Slagger. Out the Kaiser left point hammers a one-time goes wide. Renzel a follow-up shot. Shoulder save. Loose puck in front. Folino played it to the left wing corner to Green. The slagger in the left wing circle in the left wing corner. Flips it back now to the line. Left point to Kaiser. He’ll stick it down behind the net around Ryan Green to Renzel. Right point, shot it in front of the King net and Felo fell on the stick of Dumlan. No penalty called from the far sideboard. Green spun it behind the net up the near side. Renzel took it away and then lost the puck to Dano. The Kings. The Kings are back twoonone. Lefari into the hot zone. Left circle will fire. He scores. We’re tied at one as Lefari scoring for the Kings at 3:30 of period number two. An unfortunate turnover for Sam Renzel at the offensive blue line and he had some tired people on the ice and his own teammates kind of tired. He was trying to spot Connor Bedard who had just jumped on the ice but he doesn’t get it to him. turns into a twoon-one and boy a perfectly placed shot by Leferier just inside the right post of net minder arvitzer bloom you can hear it clanging off the post and just like that the highest the score is tied for Lefer that’s his second on the season I don’t believe there’ll be an assist awarded on that goal but I guess we’ll find out from the official scores so 1-1 is where she stands funny was Good shift by the Blackhawks too, John. They had three shots, three puck retrievals and then Sam Renzel maybe, again I mentioned the first period trying to make something out of nothing and instead of just getting it deep, he tried to make a a miracle pass and ends up turning it over. Now the Kings get the puck back in their end. Arma passing to center ice picked off by the Hawk Archimov racing down the right wing zone will fire it in on goal and a butterfly save made. They’ve actually awarded two assists on this goal. Here it Ar Hawk left circle trying to snap it on goal. Blocked. A pass now from the area between the circles by Barakovski ahead for Bedard. Misses forth place. The puck to the far side down the far side into the Hawk zone in the right circle. More fires and that’s gobbled up by Arvid Solderblow. He’ll hold it. Whistle will stop play and we’ll get a face off inside the Hawk zone. By the way, the Hawks came back to full strength on that penalty kill sponsored by Northwestern Medicine Orthopedics on a relentless pursuit of better medicine. Well, all of a sudden shots 1310 still in favor of the Blackhawks, but LA got a little bit of juice. I’m sure Jim Hiller, former teammate of mine with the Detroit Redskins, gave his team a uh a good tongue lashing after that first period. I know they played last night, but that was not a very good period for them to come out with a little more energy here in period number two. Here’s Colton Doc moving with the puck out of the Hawk zone to center ice and over the King blue line of the right wing. Then turned it over. Andre Ksmeo who played for three teams last season into the Hawk zone. Put the puck down behind the net. Conor Murphy winds it away up the left wing to Dickinson to center ice now slaggered. Put it in over the King line along the right side boards to Doc. He takes a hit as he flips it behind the net around. Dickinson near the left point. Fires toward the net. blocked and a pass ahead now to Kevin Fiala breaking into the Hawkel down the slot. He couldn’t get a shot away, but he ties a wraparound and he scores. What a play. Fiala could not get free to fire a wrist shot because he was being defended by two Hawk players, but instead he looped in behind the net, came out the backside, a wraparound shot and a goal and it’s 2-1 LA. Really good skill from the Finn and he did what Patrick Kane used to do. He went out to block a shot at the point and he kept his momentum. So then he got outside the blue line. LA picks up the puck. They throw it up ice and the skill there not to shoot it originally on Soder Bloom. He had nothing to shoot at. So he hung on to it. The spinama behind the net and literally his hands together at the top of the knob to put that puck in. And just like that, LA with the onegoal lead. Riala. That’s his fifth on the season. The goal at 454 period number two. Dowy from the right point Hawk zone. Fires a shot down toward the net. Deflects wide. Here’s Nazar now to the puck along the right boards. Passing up the right wing. Donado at center ice. Deflects the puck into the right wing corner. King zone. CC clears it back to the line. Held in by Krevier who gloved the puck over his head and tried to drop it to his stick, but this is going to be whistled down as a hand pass. Well, the es and flow of a hockey game. and you look at momentum and the Blackhawks, I thought they came out early in the second period. I talked about that shift where they had three shots, three puck retrievals, but then all of a sudden Sam Renzel forces a pass, turns it over, it ends up in the back of the net. And then, you know, a little bit of momentum now for the LA Kings and a smart play by FIA on that second one. Just going out to block the shot from the point, kept his momentum, ends up getting the puck eventually and scores himself a goal. CC to Army at center ice in front of the benches. and he shot the puck ahead. This misses all of his teammates and goes down and icing will be the call here. We’ll get a face off back in the King zone. This will be in the circle and Forestber’s left. Still important to keep winning that faceoff war they did in the first period. It establishes possession and Forsber, you know, although he’s looked a little better this period, I not real confident in period number one. the turnovers uh took a delay a game penalty himself. So you want to keep getting pucks going to the net. It’s the four seasons heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and electric faceoff for all the right reasons. Call 8664 seasons and the Kings win it. Mikey Anderson to center ice on the right wing side front of the benches dumping the puck down the boards into the Hawk zone. Andre Burkowski handling between the circle passing ahead Connor Bard over the King line. had his puck stripped away there from behind by Arma who put it ahead into the hawk zone. Dano down the left wing side, walks it beside the net. Couldn’t get a clean shot away. Poke checked away nicely there by Solder Bloom. And then Lechin off with the puck in the far corner, leaving it there for Bard. He’ll wave it over between the circles to Grizzlick. Now to Lein off along the right boards. Quick clear up the right wing to center ice picked off by the Kings. Turkot into the hot zone. High slot now passed AA Grizzlick all over him. They bump the puck comes free out near the point and stripped away by Baddard. He’s at the end of his shift so he just onehands the puck down the left side boards to the corner in the king end. He’ll get off on a chain. Yeah, good one-on-one though. Matt Grizzlick against Viala who’s very shifty, very good with the puck and he just basically killed the play. Turkot and Kaiser end up with the puck in the near corner. Hawk zone. Kaiser spins it away to Murphy. Good to Nick Felino at center ice on the left wing. tried to give it a head to Green. This is bounced back to center ice now from the King’s own by Dowy. Right to Nick Felinino and he clears it down behind the King net. Delayed offside situation. Now the Kings get the puck back. Here’s Brian Dumlan with it at center ice. Won a couple of cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins back in the day. He sticks the puck down into the Hawk zone. Right wing corner. Kempe there turns to make a back pass and this deflects off a Hawk player stick and down ice between the circles came zone. Edmonson there with a pass up ice to the Hawk blue line. Batted out the center ice now by Doc to Dickinson in front of the Hawks bench. He’ll sweep it down behind the net. Boresburg the goalender out to play it up the left wing side. The byfield at center ice try to hand it ahead for Cory Perry coming into the Hawk zone, but Louis Kier is able to pull it away from everybody. Kadock at center ice. Put it over to King Line on the left wing. Dickinson will spin it down behind the net and it’s stroked around into the near side by Edmonson and around it goes all the way down ice into the Hawk zone. Let’s see is it going to go far enough for icing? No, they’re going to wave the icing. Classic to the puck now. Kings on the line chain. Classic passing on the right wing. Nazar. They lost a bouncing puck into the King zone. Taken away by Turkot. He’ll pass to center ice to Kismeo over the Hawk line. Rubbed off the puck for a moment there by Krevier. Puck rides into the right wing corner and Nazar came out with it. There’s Frank Nazar between the circles. Hawk skating the puck to center ice. Nazar over the king line to Donado left point. Pins it down behind the net. Anderson pounded with a body check there from Terrain but clears it ahead to Kusmeo. Put it across the rink and it’s spun in toward the Hawk net there by Cece. Gloved beside the net there by Solder Bloom. He’ll hold on and a whistle will stop play. 1133 left in the second. 2-1 in favor of the Kings. Now, this is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. What a tremendous guy he was too, Steve. on top of being a great goalender, a Hall of Fame goalender, just a great guy. Really was, you know, caught with the right hand. Not many goalenders back in the day did and just in unbelievable shape. Even into his 70s, he was just in phenomenal shape. Now back at the King blue line, Dumlan battling with Ryan Green. Pokes it ahead. Cory Perry into the Hawk zone left point. Tried to center the puck. It ends up in the skates of Previer down toward the net, but Kaiser alertly pokes it away to the corner. Then a shot from Perry from the left wing boards is into the glove of Arvid Solderblow. He’ll hold it there. Sorry, John. You mentioned Cory Perry coming back into the lineup just a couple of games ago. Grizzled veteran who I think has added a little bit of juice to this lineup. You know, they’re looking for ways to get past the Edmonson Oilers. I think you brought it up earlier, three years in a row they’ve lost to Edmonson uh in their matchup and they’re just trying to find an answer. Of course, Cory Perry last year uh spent a lot of time with the Edmonson Oilers. Bird himself in training camp, did Cory Perry tweaked his knee and just getting back into the lineup recently. Off the face off to Kings Control, Fiala on the high slot. Long wrist shot in the glove save made by Arvin Solder. By the way, we haven’t had a coach’s challenge tonight, but tonight’s coach’s challenges are sponsored by Northwestern Medicine with eight specialties ranked among the top 10 in the nation by US News and World Report. The teams at Northwestern Medicine offer second opinions for the toughest conditions. Draw to the right of Solder Bloom. Hawks get it now. They give it back. Byfield put it out to the line. Zumalin fires that misses the Hawks net. There was a gang up of people in front. Meanwhile, here’s Ilia McKay breaking to center ice on the left wing. Listed through the air to the left wing corner. King zone and got a stick on it with Dumalan. McKay was able to strip it out of there. McKay beside the left circle leaving the puck in the left wing corner to Burkoski to the line. Grizzlime and a save made by Forsber. He doesn’t know where the puck is. It looks like it’s underneath his pads. He’s just kneeling down on it at the top of the crease. Yeah, that’s a good save by Forsber. There was traffic in front. There was at least three bodies around him and he did a good job tracking that puck the blast from the point and loved our interview with Ilia McKay, you know, asking him about and Jeff Blashel talked about him this morning just winning board battles and he said, “Hey, I just like to play and to him it’s a game. It’s a game he gets paid very well for, but uh he’s a competitor and he likes to compete and I think that’s why he likes to play.” There seems to be a compliment to just about any line he joins. Mhm. And I I I say it again, I said it a million times already. I love the way he kills penalties. Hawks control off the draw. Then Nazar out near the blue line had his stick slap and the puck ends up trickling over the blue line to center ice. Nazar fired it back into the King zone. The Kings come out of their end. Now Arma comes across the Hawk line. Offside is the call. Down to 1024 left in period number two. No change in the score. Still 21 LA. Well, John, tonight’s broadcast is sponsored by Flight by Yangling. Crisp, refreshing, only 95 calories. Flight, the next generation of light beer. They’re going to move this faceoff back into the LA zone. Circle to the right of Forsber. It’s going to be the four season heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and electric faceoff. For all the right reasons, call 8664 Seasons. Getting colder. Give Dave a call. He’ll send his crew out to get your furnace tuned up. Could be a real harsh winner. We’re going to see. We’ll see. Donado wins the draw. Here’s Donado putting it into the left circle. Was intended for Terrain, but his stick was all tied up. The Kings get the puck. Kempe whips it to the hot blue line and Blic paws it over his head and drops the puck down to the ice. It’s touched by a teammate stick and they whistle. They rule this as a hand pass. You know, John, to me, it seemed like the Blackhawks were playing more on their toes in the first period. And you know, maybe maybe that’s LA Kings and they got in late last night from Nashville. It was a nine round shootout. So, I’m sure they didn’t get into their beds till 2 or 2:30, but they’ve woken up in the second period and it seems like the Blackhawks just a little bit on their heels right now. Now, a draw one by the Hawks. Renzel with a pass for Nazar. Hit a stick blade and tumbles into the King zone. Grant Clark carries to center ice. Here’s Clark. nearly fell down at the hot glue line, but from one knee shovels the puck down behind the Hawk Ned. Blic leaves it back there now for Renzel. Here’s Renzel moving up the right wing side, passing it center ice. Blic in over the King line down the left wing to the corner then behind the net. Hooks it around to Nazar rightwing halfboards. Leaving it there for Blic to Terrain in right point. Quick pass to Renzel. High slot. He fires and this deflects up into the protective netting. 939 left in the second period. Still 2-1 in favor of the Kings. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Hey hockey fans, this is Jeremy Ronic. Blackhawks play here on Chicago’s hockey station, WGN Radio. Kopitar against Dickinson on the draw. Hawks have won 18 of 33. And this one now taken by the Kings in front of the benches. That’s Kopitar. He tried to give to a teammate. It splits to the near side of center ice where Conor Murphy will just fire it back down the boards into the King. Dickensson to the near corner. Took it away from Grant Clark. Leaving the puck for Colton Dock. He’s hit by big Joel Edmonson and off the puck. Taken away by the Kings. Clark will spin it ahead down ice through the hot blue line intended for KMO off his stick to the corner. Kaiser works the puck free. Kopitar leaning on him. Kopar. Oh, and now penalty will be called here to the Kings. I was just about to say Kopitar will get the veteran consideration from the referees, but not the trailing referee here. Here’s why. LA has been two minutes for trip. An inadvertent stick by Kopitar on Wyatt Kaiser. Just a one-on-one battle, but whenever you get your stick down in the skates in danger of tripping the player and Kaiser goes down, Kopitar heads to the penalty box. Sam Renzel picks it up. Wheels behind the net. Then Renzel the Terrain and Hawk line. Back to Sam Renzel over the center ice circle. Back to Terrain. Put the puck in over the King line. Nazar directing himself to the right wing corner to Terrain and beside the right circle now to Felino. Left it behind the net. Nazar diving for it. Could not get to the puck and the Kings do. They come up by short-handed. Quenton Biffield over the hot line near the left point. Off to a career start. He stops and swings the puck down behind the Hawk net and Renzel will now gather it in. 119 on the Hawk power play. Renzel dropping the puck near Circle Hawk zone to Bard. He’ll skate it out the center ice and over the King line. Leaves it in his skates. Taken away Nazar to Felinino left point. Strokes it down to the area behind the net. There’s Baddard the Terrain rightwing corner. Set it out in front. It was a bouncing puck swatted away by Edmonson of the Kings and all the way down. Like that rush up ice by Connor Bard though on on the power play making the opposition blue line. Always a tough thing to do. And instead of passing, instead of shooting it in, he just kind of left the puck and drew the defender with him. Easy pickup for the Blackhawks. Burkoski to Ryan Green. Right point, King zone. Put it behind the net. Andre Burkosski. The dock left corner now. Burkoski along the left boards. The dock back in the net. Walks that out in front. Tried to get a backhander away. Ends up in behind the net and the puck taken away by Mikey Anderson. He’ll clear it all the way down. Solder Bloom out of the Hawk. Gave the puck to Lechinoff. Hawk line right wing. He’ll drop it off to Andre Burkosski through center ice and over the King line to Green right point. Spins it down. Berkosski back in the net with 12. Burkoski in the left wing corner now. Put the puck behind the King net to Donado. Here’s Donado chased into the near corner. Works his way off a check but lost the puck and it’s spun by Anderson off the glass and up into the protective netting just as the Kings come to full strength. Yeah, pretty good kill by the LA Kings and they’ve struggled in this department coming into this game. 28th overall in the NHL in the Pelico and on the road just 65%. Yeah, that ranks 28th in the entire NHL. So, you know, here’s a team last year that was very good killing penalties. They ranked seventh overall. So, the LA Kings, Duel Brown, an associate coach, an assistant coach for the LA Kings, has a lot to say about the penalty kill and they’ve been doing their job tonight. Hawks control off the draw. Murphy from the right point. Fires that hit Slagert trying to crowd the front of the net. Murphy held it in at the point at the right at the blue line. Now down to the right wing corner with a pass. McKaya it behind the net to the left wing halfboards. Swagger had it for a moment, lost it. Kopitar took the puck back now front of the benches then turned it over to Jason Dickinson. Hawk line quick pass head for Slagger into the King zone. He couldn’t control it. Now he does get it back and then loses it again and then Mave takes it back. Mave in the right wing corner rolls off of a check from Dowy and spins it down behind the net. Slagert’s got it there. Back to Kaiser left sideeps the hit and then fires that hit traffic between the circles and the puck is misplayed to center ice. Dickinson’s got it in front of the benches and he’ll drive it back down the glass behind the King Net. Kings get it back. Dowy passing up the left wing. Copitar whips it back across into the far corner in the King zone to Edmonson. Now back to Drew Dowy between the circles. Dowy who played his junior hockey and Quiring the puck down ice into the Hawk zone. Classic now claims it far corner. Turned it over far circle and there’s a shot from Deno that was blocked in front by Murphy. Tory Perry with the puck back at the Hawk net. Checked off of it by Vassic. Nazar escapes as the puck ahead now to Badard. Tried to float it ahead for Nazar into the King zone. It was held up at the blue line and then Badard one-handed it down behind the net with a backhand flip. Yeah, that was Brandt Clark who flunted it out of midair. That saucer pass from Baddard to Brandt Clark. He is such a smooth defenseman to watch. He just does all the little things right. Really good youngster for the LA Kings. I think the Kings feel he’ll be the successor for Drew Downey when he retires and part of the reason they traded George Spence. Another right shot defense when they traded in the offseason to Ottawa. Renzel in the King zone along the right tried to work a shot through traffic. Mikey Anderson took it away to Clark back of the net with 5 minutes left in the frame. He’ll start up. Here’s Brent Clark between the circles LA zone then out to his blue line. Gave it to Anderson. Lead pass now. Lefari Hawk line to the Alla over the line at the left point and the Lefari left wing halfboard still by field down beside the net. Folino reaching in took the puck away spun it away but not out. A shot from the right point by Dowy goes wide. Here’s Dumlum with the puck along the left half board to Leferier at the line to Biffield against the right side board to Dowy in the high slot. Back to Bfield near the right point passing over leftwing boards. Dumlan will fire it in front of the net. Up the far side it goes by field there to the right wing corner. Flips it behind the Hawk net. Renzel’s got it. He can’t clear it up the near boards. It’s taken away by Lefer. Put it through the left circle. Bitefield fires and that’s blocked on the way in. There’s a good chance there. Fiala now leaving in high slot. Dowy to Fial at the line. Top of the left circle now to Duman being bothered by Felo. Dumlan out to the point escapes Felino. Here’s Dumlan wheeling down the slot. Put it in front of the net. Picked off there by the Hawks. A nice play by Grizzlick to poke it away to Felo. Had the Burkoski center ice. He’s surrounded by four Kings. And all he can do is dump it down the boards in behind the net and get off on the chain. Really good shift by the LA Kings. Boy, they had the Hawks hemmed in their zone for a good minute. And it was a good thing they did get the puck down the ice because, you know, basically all five guys changed. We get a whistle as the play ends up in the Hawk zone, but the puck left the ice surface. 337 left in period number two. 2-1 LA. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Looking for a midweek pickme up? Well, join us at the United Center this upcoming Tuesday, October 28th, at 7:45 p.m. as the Blackhawks go head-to-head with the Ottawa Senators in a crossconference clash. Doors to the atrium open at 6 p.m. And tickets are available now at blackhawks.com/tick. See sales, their general manager, building that team progressively and methodically, if you will. Ottawa going to be one of the power teams in the Eastern Conference. Some there believe that they already are. Made the playoffs last year, right? They did. Yeah, it was a good step for them. Steve has done an excellent job with that team inside the Hawk zone. Andre Cruzo back in the net. Tried to center the puck. A hit escape. Ricochets into the near corner. Jason Dickinson battling with Copitar there. Puck poked out by Kaiser behind the net. Oh, and then Kaiser fell almost head first into the post, but he’s back on his feet. none worse for wear. Then the puck is scooped out into the Hawks bench unintentionally by Brent Clark. Whistle stop play. It’s a few feet from Panganger, by the way, for those of you that might be interested. Panganger is down in the pit in between the benches, so he didn’t have to enact the glove or the blocker, you know, make that safer. Well, I got thrown out about 5 ft above the ice, so it was a good 6 in over his head. I can say that because I played with Jiren Pang and uh he was uh you know what he made the all rookie team as a goalender which is pretty darn good. This would have been back in I think it was 87 maybe. Not bad. He’s a heck of a goalender. Former Ottawa 67. Now center ice lein off to the puck will back in the Hawk zone and drop it off over to Blic. Back to left hawk line pass Nazar over the king line near the right point whips it to the left point blick to terrain put it in front of the net and it’s deflected over the net by Nazarin the right point put it down behind the king net terrain there working his way to the right wing circlean to the right halfboard still holding dropping it off right point blic he wheels down to the corner stops on a dime there but left the puck Arma took it away head the left wing to Dan O. Fires it across the ring. Cody Cece at center ice. He ex of the Ottawa Senators dumps the putt down behind the Hawk net. Leanoff drove it around just over the line to center ice. Kee for the Kings back into the hot zone. Put it down to Turkot beside the net. He jams it in on goal and Solder Bloom down with a butterfly save. Boy, Arvin Solderloom two years ago would have moved off that near post because he was going to try and anticipate the players moves and stay in position to make the save. This time he’s hugging that post, making that shooter take the difficult shot. Yeah, hugging it tight, not giving any room on that side. And that was Alex Turkot with the shot. And Alex Turkot has been noticeable in this hockey game. And of course, a name familiar to Chicago hockey fans. He grew up in the area, the Turkot family, pretty well known. Alex played with the Chicago Mission. And he was a high draft pick of these LA Kings. He fifth overall, I believe, the year that the LA Kings drafted him. And he finds himself in a regular rotation now with this Kings lineup. overall 2019. The Hawks took Kirby Doc in that draft with the third pick. Here’s Bedard breaking through center ice over the King line left wing side. Dropped pass to McKaya. Spins it down behind the net. Bard in the right wing corner. Put it out to Creier near the right point. Now down to Barakovski to Baddard in the high slot. Try to one timer. He ends up shanking it into the left wing corner. McKay leaving the puck there. Dumlan came along for the Kings and he dodges a hit from Bard and pushes the puck out the center ice. Turks got it for the Kings over the Hawk line. Gave the puck to Perry down to the right wing corner. He shot it right along the goal line toward the net and ends up in behind and Perry got it out to Dowy in the high slot. Long wrist shot blocked by Krebier. Veroski takes a loose puck, lifts it through the air into the King zone. Bard tying up with Perry who ends up keeping Bard at bay and then taking the puck away. Passing ahead Lefer into the hot zone near the left point. Leaves it for Edmonson. Kings had too many men on the ice there. I don’t know how that escaped though. Oh, they didn’t escape the side of the referee. Penalty is coming up here. Actually, I’m going to stand corrected because the Kings have the puck and now their net is vacant. They have six attackers on the ice. Here’s Biffield back through center crossing the Hawk line. We get a whistle. Offside is the call. 41 seconds left in the frame. It’s like a tripping call against the Blackhawks. Conor Murphy seems to be heading in that direction. So I guess it’s against number five. So tripping is the call. Yeah. Another late penalty by the Blackhawks in the period and LA to the power play. It just seems like LA has been gaining momentum this entire period. I mean, early I like the start for the Blackhawks, but then a couple of mistakes and they’ve been playing in their own end an awful lot the last five, six minutes. Well, the Hawks don’t have a short-handed goal as of yet, but they’ve got a couple guys out there that can produce one, namely Ilia McKay. The Kings has surrendered a short-handed goal already this season in nine games. So we’ll see. Faceoff circle to Solder Bloom’s right. Dickinson and Kopitar on the draw and the Hawks end up with it. Blastic in the corner then lost it to Kopitar. Spins the puck behind the net around to the right point. Fiala put it in the high slot. Keep the toopar left circle whips it down beside the net. It lose. And now Dickinson claims the puck. Head to McKay at center ice. breaks into the king zone down the left wing and he fires and Forsber down with a butterfly save. Holds the puck long enough for a whistle. Again, we see Illy McKay short-handed. Boy, does he know what he’s doing. I like the way he plays, you know, and I mentioned Jeff Lashel this morning. He looks bigger than they list him at 6’1. He He’s got the long stick. He’s got the long rangey stride. And the puck seems to follow him around. Good speed, too. You know, not not the prettiest skater, but he he gets up and down the ice north south really quickly. Now he leaves the Blackhawks in a favorable position here for the faceoff. Circle to the right at Forsber. It’s going to be Dano facing off with Tabo Terrain. Drop of the puck. The Kings get it. 18 seconds for the frame. Dowy skating the puck out. Moving it ahead Leier at center ice eight into the Hawk zone. You heard that whistle cut the air. This play is whistled down on the off side. Down to 11 seconds here, Steve. Yeah. You know, keep in mind these LA Kings played last night. I want to say this is three games in four nights for them. So, um, you know, good second period for them, but you know, you think that maybe they start to feel a little bit, a little more fatigue in the third period. Real important to finish this build up. Just outside the Hawk blue line is where the faceoff will originate and Deno wins it from Nazar. Brand enters the Hawk zone down the right wing side. got tied up with a couple Hawks and then a shot from Dano from the side of the net turned out of there. Loose puck in front, slapped out of there by Krebier and there’s the horn. So, the Kings are going to open up play in the third period with a minute and 19 seconds of power play time along with a fresh sheet of ice. Shots on goal for the period favor the Blackhawks. Well, they’ve got 15 to 14. I have a feeling they’re going to add a couple of shots here because of that late flurry of shots here in the period. Yeah, they probably will. But, you know, when you look at the period, I I like the way the Blackhawks started. Unfortunately, a mistake, an unforced error by a young defenseman turns into a goal for the LA Kings and that just seemed to give them a little bit of juice and they fed off that and they got a little bit of momentum and all of a sudden, everyone feels better about their game when you score a goal. Sure. And you quiet the crowd and you know, you get into the game and right now the LA Kings into this one. Well, the Kings did get nine shots on goal. 15 is the total for two periods. Hawks also had 15 for two periods. They only got away four shots on goal. So, not their best period. We’ve we’ve seen a couple decent second periods by the Blackhawks, but all year long last year, Steve, it just seemed like the second period was their downfall. If they if they could take a a a healthy lead into that period, you’d think they’d survive. Sometimes it’s a long change and especially with a young team, you know, you have to manage the game and it’s better to go shorter than longer and make sure that you get fresh bodies on the ice. I’d rather see guys go 30 seconds than 50 60 seconds in the second period just because of that change. Waiting for our guests to arrive downstairs. I noticed one thing about the Blackhawks and maybe this is part of the Jeff Blash system. They’ve done a pretty good job of protecting the front of the net. They did in that first period. Not so much in the second period, but I think we’ll get back to that. We’ll see that them getting back to that in the first. Yeah. Well, especially when you have guys like Kopitar and Biffield and Philip Deno down the middle. You you’ve got to own the front of the net or they’re going to own you. Two-1 in favor of the Kings after two periods. Still waiting for our guest to arrive downstairs. I understand that boys are making their way to the dressing room getting a few fluids and I think our guest has arrived. So, let’s join Andre Burkovski downstairs. Andre, John Weidman along with Steve Conroyd for Blackhawks Radio. Hey, first of all, congratulations on the addition to your family, the birth of your beautiful daughter. What was it all like for you? Uh, it was good. Um, kind of late night, but uh, everything went well. Uh, the doctors made did an unbelievable job and she came out nice and healthy. And, uh, same with my my wife. She uh she was babbling and did a hell of a job. Well, that’s wonderful. Yeah, that’s great to hear. Congratulations, Andre. Uh just getting to the game, I thought you guys played a dominating first period. It changed a bit in the second. What do you think the biggest difference was? No, I mean just giving it to them really. We we lose some pucks. Uh we’re poke checking a lot. We’re not we’re not hard. I think first pit we just send it deep and we we’re hunting. We’re skating and we’re winning puck battles right now. Oh, I think we we’re a little loose. We let them we let them uh we feed in the transition too. I think we we giving them too much space in make plays. Um we’re losing parts and neutrone that feeds the transition and they’re really good that way. So, we’re just going to um manage puck better and get it deep. Well, Andre, you came to Chicago after a trade with Seattle during the summer and Jeff Flash was the new head coach here, new coaching staff. the transition for you, how easy or difficult has it been after you’ve played for other head coaches in the NHL? Uh, I think it’s been easy for me. Uh, team has been great to me. Coach has been great to me. Uh, a lot of trust. Uh, obviously you’re going to earn it. So, you’re going to have to play good. But, uh, for me so far, it’s been it’s been easy. I’m very happy to be here. Uh, super excited about about getting opportunity here and and show what I can do and help the team. Well, the Hawks are happy to have you. Listen, you played against Conor Bard last year. You play with them now. Uh, give us your scouting report on the young superstar. No, obviously he’s an unbelievable player. He skates really well. He unbelievable with the puck. So, uh, it’s it’s great to play with him. He I He learns me a lot. I’m trying to teach him to do things and I think we’re building chemistry together. We feels like we are looking for each other out a lot out there. So, we just going to keep doing that and and uh uh hopefully we can get some more putts in the net here. Well, it’s easy to see that you two compliment one another on the ice. So, keep it up. Andre, thank you for joining us here in the intermission. Go get him in the third. Thank you. Appreciate it. All right. Andre Burkovski, our guest for the first time. He’s a great guy. Great interview. Very happy for him and his family. He’s got uh another mouth to feed. We’ve all been there, Steve. We have. Yeah. And a lot of sleepless nights, too, Andre. Get ready for that. Start saving for those college days, Andre, if you haven’t done it already. All right, two-1 in favor of the Kings after two periods. Charlie’s going to be along with the full intermission report and then third period action will follow along after that. It’s a good one so far here at the United Center. 2-1 LA with a period to go. Here’s Charlie Romelotus with your intermission update. We are through 40 minutes here at the United Center and the Hawks are down two to one to the LA Kings. LA certainly tilted the ice in their favor in that second scoring both of the goals and outshooting Chicago 8 to4 in the middle frame. So hopefully the Hawks can turn things around in the third period and and push to to get at least another point to extend their point streak to six games. We had seven games on the NHL schedule tonight. Four of them have gone final. Let’s start in New Jersey where the afternoon game against the Colorado Avalanche. The Devils defeated the Avalanche four to3 in overtime. It was a Jack Hughes overtime winner that extended the Devils winning streak to eight games. Unbelievable start for New Jersey. Colorado fell to 03-1 in their last four after a 50-1 start. The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Col or they defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 2 to1 also in overtime. It was a Nikita Coocher overtime winner. Congrats to Coocherov, by the way, who picked up his thousandth career NHL point yesterday. And uh by the way, former Blackhawk Brandon Hegel also scored his first goal of the season. In the game, he had none in his first eight. Over in San Jose or over in Minnesota against San Jose, this game just went final. The Sharks defeated the Wild 6 to5 in overtime. Mlin Celabbrini scored the overtime winner for San Jose. He finished with three points on the night, a goal and two assists. Also, Michael Misa, the number two overall pick for San Jose in this past June’s draft, scored his first career NHL goal. So, congratulations to Misa. And then the Utah Mammoth defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 earlier today. It is the seventh consecutive victory for the Mammoth. What a start for Utah. A couple games currently going on. The Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators are kned up 2-2 in the second intermission. The Calgary Flames are up two to one on the New New York Rangers in the first intermission. And then the late game tonight, the Vancouver Conucks are hosting the Edmonton Oilers. Elsewhere in sports, the Bears four-game winning streak ended today in Baltimore as the Ravens beat the Bears 30-6 this afternoon. The Bears committed 11 penalties in the loss. At each home game at the United Center this season, we’ll be a saluting a veteran. And tonight’s salute to the veteran is sponsored by Jeffbiserhouse.com, a proud veteranowned business serving Chicagoland since 2007. William R. Anderson and Travis Gordon were the two US Army veterans that the Blackhawks uh honored earlier today in the game. So, thank you both for your service. The uh Hawks, unfortunately, that second period did not go their way. Uh after the first period, we were talking about how LA was on the second of a backto-back and it was important for Chicago to keep the the foot on the gas pedal to take advantage of the potential tired legs of the LA Kings and it was LA that tilted the the ice in their favor. The scoring chances in that second period at even strength were 10-3 in favor of LA. In the first period, they were 7 to3 in favor of Chicago. So, uh, clearly LA, uh, found another gear. And if you’re the Blackhawks, I think in the third period is where the the LA is really going to feel their legs. So, come out of this third period strong. Looking at some of the faceoff numbers, the Hawks are impressively have won 55% of their draws. They’re 23 and 19. Man, this is a really good center group up front for for LA with with Kopitar and Deno and Quinton Biffield and even Alex Turkot is is on that fourth line centering it. And so Hawks have had their way. Jason Dickinson leading the way for the Blackhawks. He’s won seven of 10 for a 70% win percentage. And Connor Bard who went 3 and 0 in the first period. He is now 5 for9 for a 56% win percentage. So Hawks are having some success in the faceoff circle. And um hopefully they can carry that over into the the third period and it it could play some sort of role uh for for Chicago as they they get down to the nitty-gritty in this game. So, Hawks are trailing 2 to1 here at the United Center. We’ll take a quick break, then we’ll set up the third period next. You’re listening to Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Here’s Charlie Romelotus with your recap. Hawks and Kings are on the ice for the start of the third period. The Hawks have had a a quiet power play in this game. They’re 0 for three. And in those three uh three opportunities, the Hawks have registered just two shot attempts, one shot goal, and zero scoring chances. So, you’re the Blackhawks, you end up getting another one here in the third period or at least one more. Uh got to take advantage of it. Especially LA does that to a lot of teams. They’re a really good defensive team. No surprise that this is more of a lower scoring game so far, but um yeah, it hasn’t been a it hasn’t been a great showing for for the power play. They look a little bit of discombobulated. So hopefully they can turn things around in the third period. The Hawks are going to have a minute and 19 seconds of penalty kill time to start this third period after they um they finished the the third period with that the the penalty. I believe it was on Connor Murphy stripping. So hopefully the Hawks can kill this off. What’s on deck is sponsored by Timbertech decking and railing number one in premium decking for free as I send it back over to John and Steve for the third. All right, thank you very much Charlie to get her started. It’s time for the Four Seasons heating and air conditioning, plumbing and electric face off. For all the right reasons, call 8664 seasons. Oxtrail 2 to1 as we enter play here in the third period. Kopitar of the Kings against Jason Dickinson of the Hawks. The drop of the puck and we’re underway in the Kings control off the draw. Here’s Adrien Kempe back in the King zone. Remember the Kings are still on a power play. 110 now on their time. Kopitar fires a pass to the Hawk line. Picked off by Ilia McKay. Breaks into the King zone down the right side. Got by a check. He’s trapped and he falls into the end boards and he’s a little slow to get up. Adrien Kempe got the stick underneath the blade of Ilia McKay and he went down in a heat quickly and he’s going to labor to the Hawks bench. So this will even up the sides. John, that’s one thing when you’ve got a forward on the back end of the power play. They’ve got two forwards on the back end of the power play and Mave is going to the dressing room unfortunately. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you for that. But I like the decision by McKay. He sees Kempe back there. He’s not a defenseman. He’s not used to a one-on-one situation. He was actually beating him wide. That’s why Kempe took the penalty. So now we’ll see four and four hockey for almost a minute and then the Blackhawks will get a power play. It’ll be a Sitco power play. When it does happen, score savings on every Phillip with Club Sitco. Download the app now to start saving. As Steve mentioned, four against four. Villean with the puck behind the King net. Skates out with it to the near side, then turns and flips it back in behind round to Dowy who sends the puck back in behind the net again. And Dumalan’s got it there. Duman to Dowy left wing side of the King blue line. He’ll skate it ahead through center over the Hawk line. Runs into a check but leaves the puck for Dano. Returns it down to Dowy beside the net. He took it in behind and then plays it out to the right point to Dumlan. Flips the puck into the right wing corner for Dano. We get a whistle on hand pass call. So now we’re down to 22 seconds left on the four against three, excuse me, the four against four situation. Then we will have a five against four. Power play for the Blackhawks who are now in the midst of a line change. Still have to be aware four on four. You know, there’s a lot more open ice and especially for the skilled players, you know, it’s an opportunity to to really show your stuff and there there’s more ice, there’s a little more time, maybe a little more space. the Blackhawks uh you know they can turn the tables too. They got some skilled guys out there whether it’s Frankie Nazar or Conor Badar they can take advantage. There’s Badar to a loose puck after Nazar made the check to Renzel on the slot. He tried to wheel to the net had stick lifted puck taken away and the Kings are the other way. Arma left wing to center ice turns in front of the benches falls down but leaves the puck for Dano. He’s down the left wing into the corner. Hawk zone keeping the puck away from several Hawks. hands it to Arma who then lost it in front of the net. Solder Bloom pokes it away to the near sideboards and Arma’s got it there. He’s a one-man penalty killing unit. Arma now put it down to the right wing corner to Dano who falls and swaps the puck out to the left point. Mikey Anderson there flips it down to the King blue line and Joel Edmonson waiting there. Hands it ahead to Laair over the Hawk line down the right wing to the corner. Terrain steps in to knock the puck free and finally the Hawks get control. Here’s a handoff by Doc at the Hawk line to Terrain over the Kinglau line. Fightes through a check, put the puck to the right wing corner. Edmonson took it away for LA and clears it up the boards and down and Solder Bloom will now play the puck inside the trapezoid behind the net. Sold passes to the near corner to Felo. He’ll hand it there to Renzel. 5 seconds on the power play. Renzel in turns hands it off to the Hawk line to Barakovski. Took it in over the King line, but then Kopitar held his ground, took the puck away and snapped it down ice into the Hawk zone as the Kings have come to full strength. Colton Doc in front of the penalty boxes, trips over Kempe stick, but wrestles the puck down behind the King Ned. Dalin drove it back around up the far side. Held in. Nice play by Murphy with the skates. Down to the corner now. Burkosski. He put it around. Here’s Donado at the left point. Spins it down for Burkosski. back in the net, leaving it in the right wing corner is Murphy for Dickinson. Dickinson turns right into a check from Kopitar who one hands the puck away to behind the net and Doulan clears it up the left wing side. Kempe to Copatar crossing the Hawk line gave it a CC from the right circle firing a shot that goes wide and then Trevor Moore along the left will scoop the puck down behind the Hawk net up the near side. Jason Dickinson finally takes it away. This clears it down the left side boards into the King zone. The Hawks will try and get a line change out of this and they do. 1635 left in the third. 2-1 LA. Grant Clark beside the King net now passing it ahead. Edmonson at center ice sticks the puck down the left side for the Hawk zone. Geyser put it over to Krebier. Waves it out to the line. Edmonson took it there and fires and this deflects off the stick of Solder Bloom and off the glass and up into the protected netting. Wellplaced deflection there by Solder Bloom. You know, goalenders know exactly how to deflect that so that they’ll get the whistle. It went up into the netting and the draw will come off to the right of Soder Bloom who I think had a very strong game. You know, you look at the two goals and the first one the Frier put one off the post after the turnover the offensive blue line and then Tiala with a just a great individual effort the wraparound. Not a heck of a lot he could do on that. Pretty solid game for the Swedish net miner. Draw one by the Hawks. Krebier hit in the far corner but clears it up the right boards to center ice. Ryan Green in front of the benches. Works the puck free. Krebier had it, lost it to Pyfield to Edmonson then to Fiala over the hot blue line. But we get a whistle. This play is whistled down offside. By the way, stay tuned. After the game, the Flight by Yingling Chicago Blackhawks radio postgame show will be presented. Charlie will host that. Flight by Yingling Chicago Blackhawks radio postgame show. Flight is the next generation of white beer. John really uh really really enjoyed our conversation with Alex Barovski, a well spoken young man and obviously real excited about the birth of their first child. But I like what he said about in the first period they were hunting pucks. In the second period, not so much. And that was kind of the way we saw it from up here. They just didn’t have the same kind of tenacity in period 2 that they did in period one. Back inside the Hawks zone. Matt Grizzly banks the pass behind the net over the left shinoff passing up the right wing side. Donado from the benches. He just taps the puck down into the king zone. The Kings get possession. Dumlan to Dowy with a pass ahead now. Hawk line on the right wing to Dano. He’ll lift it down behind the net to the far corner. Arma along the left sideboard leaving the puck there for Dano. Put it out to the point. Dumlan there closing into the left circle. Put it down beside the net. Moore tried to center it out in front and he did and it hit Dano’s stick bounces into the air and Arvbit Solder Bloom gloves the puck out of the air and holds it for the whistle. Really good glove save by Solder Bloom. And you’re right, John. Deno was just trying to poke that one hand on his stick. just kind of jab it into the net and it did get airborne but Sodon made sure that he covered it up and the Blackhawks got caught maybe overaggressive on the puck out towards the blue line and as a result Kings get a chance right in front of the net. Well, if Dickinson can win this draw, they can get the right start here. It’s going to be against Turkot circle to the right of Solder Bloom. And Dickinson does claim the draw. Kaiser behind the net. Bank pass up the left wing off of Swagger stick and down Park in the near corner. King zone shot it ahead to the line. Now Turkot grabs the puck and races through center. Put it in over the hawk lineer. He’ll fire and a save is made by Solder Bloom who’ll hold on to the Hawk crease. Another solid save and that was important because Alex Turkot was hanging around the front of the net for a rebound. The Fair has been very noticeable in this hockey game for the LA Kings. Of course, he had that first goal. He gets a shot there. I think he was hoping for a rebound. You know, he’s he’s hoping to put it off the pad because he knew that he had traffic at the net. And so that’s a good glove save. He kills the play and he gets the draw off to his right. And it’s going to be Turkot again, this time against Connor Baddard. And Bard wins this one to Renzel in the corner. Kaiser back in the net. Drives it around the glass. Not out. Perry waiting for it along the right boards. Will fire. And I believe that hit the knob or maybe the shaft of the stick. the goal stick of Arvin Solder Bloom and deflected up into the protected netting. Kind of hard to see if it was Solder Bloom stick or the stick of somebody else. Yeah, just too many incomplete plays by the defenseman that time. Renzel with the rim and it’s got to get out to the blue line. You’re flying the zone with your forward. It’s got to get to him. It was kept in by Cory Perry and as a result, Jeff Blashel decides to change that pair. Connor sporting some sutures in his bottom lip there, courtesy of Yanni Gourd of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Yanni and Connor were battling for a puck out near the blue line. And as I recall, Gourd looked to try and lift Connor stick off the puck and missed and putting him in the face. It happened. Edmonson from the line fires a shot and Solder Bloom down with a butterfly save. And now Murphy jousting with one of the Kings. That’s Turkot who is being bear hugged from behind by Grizzlick Lear in there as well. The whistle blows. The linesman are on the scene. Haven’t seen much of that in this hockey game. Uh you obviously saw that earlier this season with all the teams the Blackhawks were playing whether it was the St. Louis Blues, the Boston Bruins, the Montreal Canadians. There was a lot of extracurricular after the the whistle. Not so much tonight except for this last play. And that’s what you want to establish. you’re going to protect your goalender and Conor Murphy, one of the better guys at doing that on this Blackhawks team. Kings had a kid not in the lineup tonight. His name is Jeff Malot who uh he can chuck him. He is a Cornell product. Had a nice conversation with the young man up from the press terrace in between periods. Here’s Grizzlick at center ice handing the puck off to Caravine and over the King line firing for the left point into the glove of Forsber and he’ll hold on. So, we got a whistle and now we’re going to face off in the King zone. Forsber’s played a pretty good game, too. He looked shaky in period number one. Charlie brought it up. He had three turnovers in period number one. Not very often you see a goalender with that stat, but he has settled himself down. I remember talking to him when he was in Chicago and his goalending coach Jimmy Wade. I asked I asked Anton about Jimmy and he said what he taught him. He said, “The biggest thing was to keep my glove up and forward. Not just up and back, but up and forward is that it really helps cut down angles on shooters. As I recall, Cory Crawford got that same instruction. All right. Yeah. And uh Cory won a couple Stanley Cups as a goalender. So, I think that’s some sage advice by Jimmy White. Thank you very much. Jimmy, you know what? You don’t hear a lot about Jimmy White, but he is a very effective goalending coach. Uh outstanding. Here’s Nazar into the King zone from the slot. Fires that goes wide. Nazok got it back behind the net. Walks out in front. Couldn’t get a clean shot away. A stick was lifted off the puck. Kuzno over the Hawk line on the right wing side. Angling one on goal. Six save made by Solder Bloom. Here’s Nano with the puck right corner to Dowy. Right point. Sticks it into the high slot. Dumalan took Gizmeo to Dumlan now deep slot to Dowy right point. Tried to fire one high toward the net. Nazar jumped up in the air and club the puck over his head. dropped it to a stick and then skates it ahead and now dumps it down the glass into the king zone. Hawks in the line change. Here’s Dowy with a lead pass. Copitar King line threw it back deeper into the King zone. Dumalin grabs the puck and skates it ahead in front of the benches. Unloads it down the boards behind the Hawk net. Kaiser reverses directions on the puck. Put it to the left wing corner. KMO there turns on Kaiser. Tried to walk along the goal line, get a shot away. Kaiser reached around him with a poke check. KMO got it back. Put it in front. Clefair fires and this deflects up into the protective netting. 1315 left in the third. 2-1 in favor of LA. John, I look at this hockey game and it’s a one-sore game. Kings up 2-1. I looked at the LA Kings numbers this year. They played nine games. Seven of the nine games have been decided by one goal and one of those games was 4-2. They lost to Pittsburgh. An empty net goal by Sydney Crosby. So, that was another one-goal game basically. So, eight of their nine games have been decided by one goal. Uh they normally play very close to the best much like this game, right? And I would expect it to uh be this way right till the end. Well, 33 and three is their record. And uh if they’re they’re in it like that and they stay like that, I think Steve really throughout the season, I think you’ll agree with me that they’ll keep themselves in contention for that time where the general managers and the hockey side have to decide are we a seller or are we a buyer, but the last couple years the Kings have been a buyer and a playoff team. There’s Ryan Green at the King line on the left wing. Backhanding the puck down behind the net. Mikey Anderson poked it away to the near sideboard. CeCe sticks the puck ahead of the right side to Leferier who’s dropped with a body check from Felino. And Lefari dumps the puck down into the Hawk zone. Quick pass by Kreb up the right wing to and he deflects it down ice in behind the Kings now. And now the Hawks will do likewise of the Kings get a line change. Here’s Brett Clark carrying Clark over the center ice circle. He avoids Donado carries to the hawk line. Sends the puck over to the left wing corner. This is off the stick of Nazar onto that of Deno of the Kings. Edmonson to Clark closing into the right circle. Tried a little tow drag maneuver in a shot. Allah Totter Badard that was blocked by Grizzly. And then Arma turns the puck over. Terrain to lift it through the edge of the King blue line. Clark is there. He spins it off the glass and down. We’re going to get icing here to LA. So if you’re Jim Hiller, the head coach is danger for the Kings. Yeah. Well, Jeff Bl is going to change all five guys. And those guys have been out there for a little bit. They’re not overly tired. I’m talking about the LA Kings. Frank Clark just tried to put that off the glass to bounce out to the area, but it ended up going all the way down. So yeah, Conor Bard, he’s been really good in the faceoff. Let’s see what he does here. facing off against a pretty good one in Philadelphia. Circle to the left of Forsber. Linesman makes him stand up and do it again. More last minute instructions. And now the drop of the puck and Madara does win it. The Hawks get possession. Lechin off right point to Grizzlick left point. Long wrist shot into the glove of Forsber. He’ll hold on to it there. It’s easy for us to sit up here and say, “Man, if Grizzly just would have held on to that puck for another second, some traffic could have formed in front of Forsber, but he’s down on the ice surface. He understands the pressures that are inher inherent with playing the position.” Yeah, exactly. And he’s worried about the guy coming out at him, the guy fronting the puck. And if he puts it off him, that guy might have a breakaway. So, you know, the other thing is you want to keep it away from the goalie’s glove. So, try and get it on his pads. And he shot it low enough to be on the pads. But that’s one thing I’ve noticed in this game, John. Not a lot of second and third attempts by the blockoffs. So, you know, Forsber doing a good job controlling rebounds and his D doing a good job clearing bodies in front. Burkoski with a puck left wing corner king zone. He spits it behind the net, but Dumal and took it away. Put it up the left wing to Trevor Moore. He’ll clear to the Hawk blue line. Artim Lechinoff there for the Hawks. Over to Matt Grizzly. Sends it on the right wing. Burkovoski. He cuts across the center ice area then over the King line near the left point. winds the puck down the boards behind the net. Duman got hold of it in the far corner missing on a pass up ice and again we’re going to get icing here to the Kings. Yeah, and the Blackhawks are going to change five guys. So they get five fresh guys out there. We still have the same LA Kings. So they are slowly starting to get maybe a little tired and real important though to win this draw. It’ll be in the circle of Forsber’s left. Clean faceoff win by Nazar. Maybe a bang bang shot and goal. We’ll see. I mean, Nazar facing off against Biffield. And now Nazar’s been Oh, no. Let him stay. Biffield does win the draw for LA. Dumalan in the corner passing up the right side. Ara at center ice tried to lift it into the hawk zone and Blic shot it back to center, but it’s taken back by Arma and he’ll stick it down behind the Hawk net. Now the Kings are able to get a line change. Bank pass by Blic up the left wing to Dinado. Tried to hand it off to Nazar coming by. Picked off by the Kings by Field into the Hawk zone. Couldn’t get around Placid who pump checks the puck ahead to Nonado through center ice and over the King line to the right wing corner. Waves it behind the net around to the left wing sideboards. Carbine into the point. Lassic who’ll fire from there and this deflects into the glove of Forsber again. No rebound on the play and Ryan Donado in danger of having that four game goal streak snapped. Of course, during that four goal four games he has five goals and an assist. And the youngster had a fantastic year last year. Career high in goals, 30 plus goals, and he’s on that way again this year. Pretty sure 31 and 31 were the numbers off the top of my head. I think you’re right. Yeah, I was just happy to to know in the summer that he resigned with the Blackhawks. Multi-year contract. Ryan’s got great character. Just a decent decent young man. Very devout by the way, too. You know what you don’t realize about his game when you’re down at ice level. I did the outdoor game at Wrigley when they played St. Louis. He finishes every check on the ice. He was one of the more physical Blackhawks on that afternoon. Uh just very intense individual. Backs up his teammates really well, too. We could go on and on. Here’s Dickinson to an outlet pass at center ice. Gave the puck to Felo. Hustling down the right wing to the corner on Anderson. Tried to put the puck behind the net to Dickinson and did. Dickinson put the puck into the right wing corner for Baddard. He’s pressed into the boards there by Kopitar. Anderson of the puck to Kopitar. And then Badard took it away. Now Dickinson who banks it out to the right point intended for Renzel, but he was not anywhere into the area and it came out to center ice and then Blastic fires it ahead. This deflects down into the glove of Forsber. He plops on it to the left of the crease and holds on for a whistle and a stoppage in play. Down to 956 left in the third. 2-1 LA. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Hey, it’s Spencer Knight. Catch Lisa Dent weekday afternoons at 2 on WGN Radio. Hey hockey fans, it’s Troy Murray. Okay, folks. I will apologize for that. That puck was shot in from center ice, which means they’re going to keep it right here. We don’t go to the break in that situation. So, it’ll be the next whistle. Face off circle to the right of Anton Forsber. Ryan Donado against Quenton Biffield on the draw. I feel the big hit. He seems to have finally grown into his body, Steve. Yeah. And you know what hurt him a couple years ago. Ankle injury and and those are really tough to come back from. Now left shin off of the right point. Spins it down behind the net. Left wing corner. Terrain. Donado. He tried to get to it behind the net. It rolls into the right wing corner instead. And Nazar. Great check on Biffield. Left. Shinoff’s got the puck. Wheeling through the high slot. Dropping it there. Kaiser fires it off the end boards to Donado who redirects it back from the left point but nobody was there. Left has to go get the puck in front of the penalty boxes and flings it down the boards in behind the king net. Forsber touches it over to Dowy. Quick pass ahead Lefarier King line. Try to angle a pass ahead for FIA into the hawk zone but Wyatt Kaiser was able to step in front of Fiala and take the puck away. Now Fiala took it back in front of the right point. Fires in front. Stopped in front there by Lechinoff. Puck taken back by Fiala. Right point again, moves into the slot. Drops it off. This time Kaiser got a stick and a skate in there. Breaking that up and will wind the puck around up the right wing side. Leon off at center ice. Couldn’t get to a loose puck. Dickinson finally did. Hawks in the midst of a change. 850 left in the third. Two1 LA. Dickinson sticking the puck off the left sideboard down behind the King net into the far corner. Puck ricochets out of the corner. Trevor Moore now for the Kings. Takes the puck into the Hawk zone down the left wing side. Murphy muscled him off the puck and took it out the center. Gave it a Landon Slagger. Slagger into the King zone. Lost the puck, but Ryan Green took it back and from near the right point. He sticks it down the glass behind the net. Horsesburg sends the puck into the near corner to Clark. He’ll lift it through the air and down. And Trevor Moore bodied Murphy off the puck at the hot glue line so there’s no icing as it tumbles down. Dano pokes the puck to the left wing corner then got it back in the left wing circle. Banks it to the left point. Edmonson fires. Blocked by Slagger. Puck recorder chase down nice into the king zone. Slagger got to it along the right boards. Pulls up and tried to head in front. Had the puck knocked off his stick. Badard took it away. Right wing corner. Here’s Pedar to Vericosski in the left wing corner. Wheeling out left circle to the line. Krebier let it rip. The net deflects over the net. Classic along the left boards being tied up by Cory Perry trying to free himself. This is actually Joel Armia who chips the puck down to center ice. Trevier back the other way into the King zone down the right wing side. Carries behind the net try to make a backhand centering pass behind his back. ends up in the right wing corner and Veracosi falls underneath Cory Perry there as you can hear them slashing for the puck and Perry falls. Loose puck in the corner and it came out to Arma. Look out. Twoon one for the Kings led by Arma. Blic the one man back. Arma down the slot lost the hele of the puck as it’s folk checked away. Kings get it back. Kopitar bottom of the left circle to Anderson left point to CC top of the right circle firing a shot that goes wide and now at the left point Anderson down to Perry along the left horse to Kempe top of the left wing circle the Kopatar left wing corner then to Kempe back of the net he turned the puck over the other way Burauski to center ice bothered by Kempe pulled down to the ice no penalty called as Veroski dumps the puck down behind the King net. Yeah, fans yelling for one here. None to be called. Earlier though, Alex Lassic, really good twoon-one play in front of his own net. Killed it between Kopitar and I believe it was uh I’m not too sure who the other player was. Now the puck turned over again at the hawk line. This time it’s Donado leads a threeon-ree rush into the King zone down the left wing. Scoops it in on goal and a six save made by Forsber. He’ll hold on for the whistle and a stoppage in play. And now we’ll go to a break. 617 left in the third. 2-1 in favor of the Kings. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Hey Blackhawks fans, this is Jason Dickinson and you’re listening to WGN Radio. We’re hoping to break out some Bandido here, Chel John Whiteman along with Steve Conroyd and Charlie Romelotus for Chicago Blackhawks hockey. We’re down to 617 left on the clock for the third period. The Blackhawks trailing the LA Kings 2 to1 who played a pretty good road game. Steve, I think you’d agree with me after that first period where they uh they looked pretty slow. They came back and they played a strong second period. Now they’re protecting that lead in the third. Yeah. You know who’s really settled down too is Anton Forsberg, the net minder. He’s made some really nice stops and some really nice passes to his defenseman. He was guilty of coughing it up a couple times in period number one, but he’s settled down nicely. Draw was one by the Kings. Dowy shot at the center ice. Sam Renzel took the puck back and from in front of the benches unloads the puck down the glass. It ends up tipping up into the netting. Well, still plenty of time to go. 606. So, you know, you don’t think about pulling your net minder. What you do do, though, is you tell the defenseman, “Hey, you get an opportunity, jump up on the play.” Sure. Uh they’ve got the green light right now. Whether it’s, you know, Sam Renzel, Lacic, even even Matt Grizzlick back there, they they’ll get an opportunity. They can make it an oddman rush or or be like a fourth forward out there. They’ll be jumping up on the play. Tell you a guy who I think is underrated in that type of a scenario, Steve, is Wyatt Kaiser. Yeah, I agree. I think Wyatt he’s he’s just turning into a very solid NHL defenseman playing with a lot of confidence and offensively I think he’s underrated. Yeah, you know, I talked to him this morning, John, and I I asked him what the biggest difference. Now, he’s a couple of years removed from playing at Minnesota Duth, but he said, “Believe it or not, you’ve got more time in the pros, and I know what he means because it could be helter skelter in the minors. It could be helter skelter at the college level, but guys play positional hockey in the pros and you’ve got that little extra half second, but you have to be able to take it.” Back inside the king zone behind the net. Dumlan scoops a puck around. Not out for clears it now off to Boris to center ice to Fialo. The bikefield coming by in over the Hawk line down the right wing. Drops the shoulder barreling to the net. One of the Hawks got a stick in there and then the puck is up in the glove of Solder Bloom. One of the Kings got a stick in there scooping it in on goal. Crystal stopping point. That is a tough man to stop. Ifield at 65 225 lbs. I mean, he was coming with speed and he gets a part shoulder on Renzel. He cuts to the front of the net. You can’t take a penalty. Harvest Obloom did a real good job deflecting that puck or I think Biffield would have had a shot. So, both of these net minders certainly not to blame for any of these goals. Draw one by the Kings. Mikey Anderson for the left wing fires. That was blocked on the way through. Nick Colleen to the puck in the left wing corner. The Hawk captain will spin it behind the net up the left wing side. Flagert there reversing it back behind the net to Kaiser over the left off lead pass for Dickinson. Pokes it ahead to Slagard on the fly over the King line to Felo. Right point sweeps it down behind the net. Slagger bear hugged into the glass there by Cece Anderson then lost the puck. Here’s FelinO now moving it behind the net. Archimin off in deep. Put it out to the line. Kaiser firing for the left point. Blocked by Trevor Moore. There’s a race to the puck in the Hawk zone. Moore’s got it. And then reaching around him was Kaiser to poke pokechuck the puck in on goal. And Solderbloom went down and smothered it and held on for the whistle. All right, we’re down to 453 left in the third. Hawks trailing the Kings by only a goal at two to one. Are we looking at overtime? Stick around and find out. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, a division of Healthc Care Service Corporation, a mutual legal reserve company. John Williams every weekday morning 10 to 2. Miss a little, miss a lot on 7:20. Now back to the game. Well, the fans here at the United Center doing their bit. They realize the team needs a little bit of energy. Under five minutes to go and I’d say about half of the crowd here standing cheering the home team on trying to bring some energy and let’s see what they can do. They’ve had a great run here so far this early in the season. The others that aren’t standing, they’re just disconulate about the Bears loss, but we’ll get them next week. From the draw, Cece from the right point fires a shot and a blocker save made by Solder Bloom. Follow-up shot by Kopitar that was knocked wide as well. Here’s Burkowski between the circles. Hawks help. He’ll carry the puck to center ice in front of the benches. Drives it down behind the King net off the boards. Horsburg plays it into the far corner to Anderson who clears the hot glue line. Murphy there. Quick pass up ice for Bernard. And then Murphy runs over Kee front of the Kings bench. Hawks get the puck. Dickinson at the King line. Bats it off the left side boards and down behind the net. Anderson has finished off with a check from Vericosski, but moves the puck over to Kopitar. He’ll curve through center and down ice into the hawk zone. Not far enough for icing, but far enough for the Kings to get a line change. Conor Murphy getting energized. Big hit on Kempy and then he jumped in on a pinch. Unfortunately couldn’t get to the loose puck. Here’s Donado down the left wing to the corner. Kings lost his stick and the puck. Kings get it back from the barrier. Clears to the Hawk blue line. Sam Renzel there. Here’s Renzel with a tow drag at center ice but lost the puck as it’s poked off his stick to the near boards and Lefari air for the Kings will nudge it down ice into the hot zone. Yeah, Biffield poke checked that puck off of Renzel but broke his stick so couldn’t do anything with the loose puck. Now Donado flings it from the area front of the benches back into the Hawk zone. Grizzlick to Nazar center ice it off the right corner glass and in behind the king net. Edmonson sticks the puck around up the far side to center ice. The Hawks Matt Grizzlick back to take it there. The Terraine and Hawk line back to Grizzlick between the circles and pass up the left wing. Donado King’s line grabs the puck, lifts it just wide of the net into the far corner. CC tried to clear. Owen Renzel goes to get the puck. He goes for a tumble over a King player stick. And this is going to be a tripping call. And the Hawks are going to get a power play with 308 left in the third. I would have sworn that this was not going to happen that the referees were just going to let him play. Yeah, Trevor Moore the guilty party and he had his stick reaching for the puck again. Renzel got twisted backwards and went flying over that stick. He’s okay. There’s the big hit by Murphy earlier, but what an opportunity here for the Blackhawks. Now, a couple things are going to happen. You’re going to have the power play and maybe for the first 30 possibly minute we’ll go five on four, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Jeff Flashel decides to pull their net minder if they don’t have a lot going in the first minute of this power play. We’ll keep an eye on Harvard Soderbloom. And an added advantage for the Hawks, Trevor Moore, one of the King’s best penalty killers, is the guy serving the two minutes. This is a sitco power play. Hawks get control. Bernard top of the left circle, put it bottom of the circle. Mazar trying to walk it in front of him. Light wipes it into the crease. There’s a scramble and Forsber plops on the puck and holds it. Get a whistle. Stopping play. Sitco power play. Score savings on every Phillips with club sitco. Download the app now to start saving. Oh, it’s too it’s unfortunate really. Frank Desar great job coming off the goal line to the front of the net, but he tripped. He went down. He had an open man too and Terrain and he was partially covered there by Leferier, but uh the right idea. Take the puck to the hoop. Get bodies to the net and see what happens. Faceoff circle to the left of Forsber. Topatar for the Kings against Nazar the Hawk. The drop of the puck and it comes free beside the net. Forsber scoops it in behind to the near corner. Biffield will take the puck and clear it the rest of the way. That was a nice little feed from the goalender Forsber just on the backand knock it off the boards and right to the winger to get down the ice. Renzel the Terrain to Felino over the King line left flips the puck to the left corner and Cody Cece tried to pin it against the dasher milk the clock. He put it behind the net. Duelan met a couple of Blackhawks there. Renzel pokes it free. Left wing corner to Terrain. He’ll flip the puck behind the King net out to the right point. Nazar slaps it back down the boards then behind the net. Felo with kind of a bear hug on Dumlan. Now FelinO works it free. Terrain and back in the net tries to roll off a check and does. And there goes Solder Bloom to the Hawk bench. Look out. The Kings get the puck. By field will send it all the way down. I don’t think he saw Solder Bloom headed to the bench. Shocked that the bench didn’t let him know. The bench was only 15 ft away. They should have been yelling that you got an open net, but Ifield just put it down into the corner. Six attackers for the Hawks in an empty net. Moose puck in the far corner and Edmonson sends it the length of the ice. The puck rolls on in just wide. Kemp’s got it in behind the Hawk net being defended by Badard who pulls the puck free. 34 seconds on the power play. 140 on the clock. Here’s Padard at the hot glue line. Pedard over the center ice circle now. Scales it off the right side glass in behind the King net into the near corner. Ar put it back in behind to Edmonson and he’ll clear it around the boards and down ice into the Hawkin. Down to 15 seconds on the power play, John. Couple of dumpins by the Blackhawks. You got to get to pucks first, especially when it’s a six on four. You’ll dump it in. It’s got to be to your advantage. They haven’t been able to do that. Now Edmonson put it around up the far side. Kempe clears it all the way down. It banks out in front of the net. Aria moves in and shoots and scores. This is an empty net goal and the Kings with 108 left on the clock now lead three to one. Well, that couldn’t have banked any better by Adrien Kempe off the sideboards right to the front of the net and going to close his eyes. Amia, you know, tell you what, broke a stick on the play. almost missed that puck, but he was just trying to chop at it. He did. Broke the uh stick in mid shaft. It’s an empty net goal. And with a little over a minute to go here in the third period, Kings lead at 3-1. So the goal 1852 and Joel Ar known more as a defensive kind of a player, scores the empty netter. Hawks back at it. Here’s Felino beside the net. Walks out beside and tried to jam the puck in the short side. But Forsber had flopped down next to the post and stopped it. We’ll get a face off in the King’s own. Yeah, Forsber did a good job holding that post. I mean that that’s a hard play. It’s a hard play by Nick Felino to bring it out front to try and jam it in and he just got his leg up against the left post and made sure not only did he allow the goal, but he didn’t allow a rebound. He kept that under his pad and mentioned it a couple times now. I think it’s worth repeating. It started out a little shaky for the LA Kings. Anton Forsburg, but boy, he has settled down nicely and he has been very effective here in the second and third periods. Jes circle to his leftar against Bedard and Bard wins the draw, but they blow it dead. They’re going to do it again. 51 seconds left in regulation. Two goal deficit for the Hawks. Not impossible says I but it’s going to take a lot of luck on the Hawk side here. Kopitar at the dot leaning on Bard’s stick. Puck comes free. Felo fires and that’s through the crease and just wide. Now Brinel can’t hold the puck in at the left point. Offside will be the call. They’ll face it off just at center ice. Ottawa in here on Tuesday nights. Mentioned that earlier. the Senators, a uh team that’s missing their arguably their top player and spiritual leader, if you will, Brady Kachchuck, but a good hockey team nonetheless. So, the Hawks will have their hands full there. How about Shane Pinto? I know he started redot. I don’t know what he’s done lately, but boy, he was one of the leading goal scorers very early in this NHL season, and he is due a contract. Get an icing call against Ottawa. By the way, Solder Bloom is on the Hawks bench once again. Go ahead. Yeah. Yeah. Well, Pinto was doing a contract and they’re talking, you know, possible 7 8-year deal anywhere between seven and 8.5 million. So, um, you mentioned Steve Stalos. He’s done a great job there, the general manager of the Ottawa Senators. He’s got some decisions to make. That’s what happens when you when you start getting good. Now, you have to start paying players. And Shane Pinto is one of those guys who’s expecting to be paid. Little trivia nugget on Steve Stos. He’s one of the few players all time that have ever been traded between the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers. Dowy gets hold of the puck between the circles and fires it down wide of the empty Hawk net. And again, icing is called. Face off will now come down inside the King zone circle to the right of Anton Forsber. Down to 21 seconds. Two captains face off. Felino and Kopitar. Kopitar wins this draw out of the corner. Doubt he’s got it. Flips it ahead. Kemp at center ice. Shot it toward the Hawk. Empty net. It’s wide. And again, icing is the call. Long as you got good face off, men, you can just do this all night. It’s going to be three for a dollar here. Why not? You just win the draw and fire it down the ice. But both of those went through the blue paint. They have not missed by much. No, it’s going to be Kopitar and Felino again. This time down to 14 seconds. Drop of the puck and Kopitar scoops it to the corner. Dowy claims the puck, carries behind his net, put it up the right wing side off of Kempe stick and down and again icing now down to 5 seconds on the clock. Well, LA not real good in the faceoff dot over the first couple of periods of this game. Third period, they seem to have really owned the dot. I know Kitar is out there right now, but he’s won two or three of these faceoffs since the net’s been empty. Well, the Kings on this fiveame road trip, they’ve won two of the three games so far. They’ve gotten points out of every one of them. And now they’re poised to make that four straight games with points three and one on the trip. As time winds off the clock and it’s official. For the first time this season, the Blackhawks have lost a game by more than one goal as the Kings take the measure of the Blackhawks here tonight three to one. Yeah, good game by the LA Kings. This is their fourth game in six nights. You mentioned uh they started in St. Louis, they went to Dallas, Nashville last night, Chicago tonight. flight.
