RINK WIDE POST-GAME: Vancouver Canucks vs Edmonton Oilers | Game #10 – Oct. 26, 2025
Kefir Sherwood plays the hero. The Kucks beat the Oilers 4-3 in overtime. Lots to talk about. Let’s get to it. It’s rink wide Vancouver. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] And we welcome you inside the Pacific Toyota dealer studios. Visit shoptoyota.ca or your local Pacific Toyota dealer today. It’s rinkwide Vancouver. It’s a presentation of B365. I’m Jeff Patterson. He’s Tyson Cole and we had a heck of a hockey game to talk about and break down. What a night for Kefir Sherwood, but really what a night for the Vancouver Conucks. They learn earlier in the day they’re going to be able to let their captain, their most valuable player, their offensive driver in Quinn use dayto-day with a lower body injury. And at the end of seven games in 11 nights here, there and everywhere and back to back. The last thing they needed was overtime, I think. But hey, they had to work OT. They did work OT. without Quinn Hughes who usually dominates in overtime. It was Kefir Sherwood stepping up his second of the night. Second that counted because really uh he scored three on the night at least put three in the net but one was reviewed overturned undenied or undeterred. He for Sherwood just kept on churning. He’s up to six. That’s a team high. Six goals on the season and his goal at 143 of overtime redirecting a Brock Besser shot that wins it for the Vancouver Conucks. And uh they get to the 10 game mark with a five and five record. He had his hat trick stripped from him. He did. That’s kind of rude by the referees, but I’d throw a hat for him. I’ll throw this hat actually. Big win Broncos. Sorry Cowboys fans. No, back to hockey. Uh Sherwood Legacy game from him. I mean, he’s uh he’s definitely on a contract here. You could tell. I mean, and also I wish everybody celebrated a goal the way Kefir Sherwood did. I mean, he just goes all out. You don’t see that much emotion uh especially I mean in game 10 of the regular season but Sherwood brings it night in and night out and he did that again tonight. Uh disappointment 24 hours ago as they let a lead get away and they lose to the Montreal Canadians. It’s only game 10 but they didn’t want to fall to four and six and start that you know chipping away and having to claw their way back. So an important win against a division rival that already beat them earlier in the season. And again, on paper, McDavid, dry settle, the nooge, uh, the Canucks don’t really match up, but the Oilers kind of scuffling along and the Conucks, full credit to them, they were the faster team, they were the hungrier team. Now, maybe they got a little complacent with another two-goal lead. And the Oilers have game breakers and dry played his 800th National Hockey League game. He certainly was heard from in this one. Gets the tying goal and a late power play. But again, the Canucks don’t go quietly. and uh their second shift of overtime. They started with Leas Patterson, Jake De Brusk, and Phil Heronic who shouldered a heavy workload. Uh left the game briefly. Little scary incident late in the second period, but uh good to see that he was okay. Uh he logged a ton of ice time. Marcus Patterson, a careerhigh in ice time, a DPD a career-high in ice time as well. So, a lot was asked of a lot of players in the absence of Quinn Hughes. And across the board, hard to find anybody that you would consider a passenger in this hockey game for the Vancouver Conucks. Lots of great individual stories. Ultimately, it adds up to a very impressive team victory as we said at the end of this hellish seven games in 11 night stretch. And so the Conucks improved to two and two on home ice. They just got to stabilize uh the home record. And really when you think of the storylines here 10 games in to be at 500 500 is not going to get them where they want to go at the end of the season Tyson but 500 through 10 games I think is more than all right when you look objectively at this Vancouver Conucks team the challenges presented and the fact that they’ve found a way to grind out five victories in 10 games. Yeah. And it goes to say like the road trip they were on five games in eight nights. That’s that’s a lot. And I mean they went three and two in that and then back to back here. You obviously dropped the uh the game last night against the Habs where you’re out to two goal lead. You hope to kind of summarize that up or sorry finish that up. Um but I mean this is a tough Oilers team. Highflying offense. Um and they just outplayed them offensively. They um they were like you said they were the quicker team. They had a ton of chances I thought. And um yeah, so I mean 500 not what you want, but uh all things considered, especially with all the injuries that have piled up, I’m pretty happy. Uh Thatcher Demco gives up three, but he doesn’t give up four. And the guy at the other end of the ice did, and this is what the Conucks believe. Every time that Demco suits up, they think that they’ve got an edge in goal. And he was superhuman against the Oilers back on October 11th. Unfortunately, the Canucks only scored once for him that night. It’s hard to win when you get one, but they got him the run support uh that he needed here, but boy, he made some key saves at I thought really crucial times of this hockey game. Um I thought the were going to be able to salt it away in regulation. Didn’t happen, but uh again, they’ll take the two points. They’re not going to worry too much about the one that they give up uh against the Edmonton Oilers. Uh and the Oilers lost in Seattle, I’m sure, down two uh to start the third period. They’ll take their single point. They’re not going to be thrilled uh with the outcome obviously, but they got some work to do. So do the Vancouver Conucks and really no letup because now they’ll get a day off on Monday and then it’s the return of JT Miller and the uh atmosphere at Rogers Arena and the emotion. I it’ll certainly be present there. Be interesting to see how the Canucks respond and again we will have to wait for some sort of update. We’ll see if we get any more details from Adam Foot, uh the head coach after this hockey game. I’m sure he’ll be thrilled with the way his team manned up and and played in the absence of Hughes, but is Queen Hughes going to be back for Tuesday, or is daytoday going to turn into something longer? Uh, we’ll have to wait and see. Um, we mentioned the Canucks speed and and it was evident on the first goal of the hockey game. A lot of people have wondered, Evander Kane, what do you do around here? hasn’t had the greatest start to his Kuck career, but there have been moments and that was certainly a moment as well to beat Tai Emerson to the puck foot race. It was a 50/50 and Kane not only gets there, but a heads up play behind the back pass into the slot and Brock Besser, yeah, we’re used to seeing Brock wire shots and beat goalies cleanly. Oh, new wrinkle there. Went to the back end and I don’t know if that surprised uh Calvin Pickard. Whatever the case, Brock found his spot, his fourth of the season. So, missed a couple of games for the personal reasons back in the lineup and four goals in 10 games. That’s a nice pace for Brock Besser. And, you know, it doesn’t go in his stats, but he had the shootout winner in Chicago as well. I think all things considered, um, it’s been a pretty good start to the season for Brock Ber. Yeah, I just wanted to talk about that goal because Jake Walman, it looks like he’s going off for a change. Uh he’s right at the blue line right in front of the Oilers bench and he tries a long stretch pass to um to one of the Oilers on the right side. Marcus Patterson picks him off and the puck goes back in the Oilers end. And Wman, you can kind of see him hesitate a little bit. He doesn’t know whether to go to the bench or go back and defend. And that little hesitation, he ends up going to the bench, but then that stops Brett Koulak from coming out and then Besser’s all in by himself and then he’s able to bury that. So, I just thought it was a poor defensive play there by uh um by the Oilers, but good on Kane for winning a winning a race to the puck. I mean, his speed once he gets there, he it’s not bad, but it just takes him a little bit little bit longer to get there sometimes, but it was good to see him not only win the race to the puck, but then find Besser and get the goal. And when I talked about that Demco making saves in key moments like mere seconds after Besser opens the scoring breakdown at the Edmonton line atu ratu turns the puck over Isaac Howard goes the other way and there’s Demco to step up and you know we didn’t know at that point how this game would unfold but had the Oilers responded right away level the game maybe they take over at that point but that’s what Demco offers this Vancouver Canucks hockey club and against an Edmonton team and an Edmonton fan base obviously that has pulled its collective hair out for years about goalending there. Uh yeah, it’s got to be tough for them to watch Demco put on these shows. Uh it seems every time that the Vancouver Conucks faced the Edmonton Oilers and again uh it wasn’t Demco’s best performance of the season or in the National Hockey League, but at the end of the night uh he didn’t blink where the other guy did and Conucks come away with this 4-3 victory. So, uh, similar storyline to last night where one- nothing, okay, they got the start that they’re looking for. Last night it was Person opening the scoring in the first. Here it was Besser. Uh, decent opening 20 minutes. Uh, they were outshot and territorially Edmonton had uh the puck more than the Vancouver Conucks did, but uh on the scoreboard it was one nothing Canucks. And then they go to the second just like last night. Power play. Chance to extend that lead. And this is what people have been clamoring for for uh well better part 18 months now. We just haven’t seen enough of the pock in the wheelhouse of EP 40. And as we watch here on the replay on the live stream, Philip Aronic puts it on a T basically on the faceoff dot there on the right side of the ice and Elias Patterson makes no mistake. Uh brought the roof down of the building. People uh were loving they were chanting his name. They love him again. um scored in back-to-back games. He’s up to three now. Uh at that point had been in on five of the last seven goals that the Vancouver Canucks had scored. So slowly but surely. Uh it’s not just a defensive play here or a nice read there. Uh the offense is coming again. There’s got to be more. And he had three points against the Habs. Uh ends up with a single point in this hockey game. But uh you know, not all points are equal, I don’t think. And for a guy that’s trying to find his confidence uh to be able to pull the trigger the way that he did, uh refreshing. and let’s hope that it is positive reinforcement and that that’s not the last time we see him fire away from that spot on the ice. Yeah, everybody everybody just wants to see that. And I think the big thing of the fan base, it’s, you know, just shoot when you’re in that position just I want to see you get those attempts on net because when you were, you know, playing at your best level, that’s what you were doing. You were firing pucks without hesitation from that spot. and now that he’s doing it, he’s getting success, which will only build his confidence moving forward. And that’s what the Canucks need right now. I mean, center depth, we’ve talked about it for a long time. It’s not great. Um, so you need your leader and your highest paid player to provide for you like that. And he did exactly that. Uh, it was kind of funny. In the moment, he probably didn’t think so, but moments after he scored, they worked it around to him again, and he fanned on the the one-time and the big groan in the in the building. So, uh, you know, not perfect, still working at it, but, uh, you take the one and you move on. He’s up to three goals through 10 games. So, uh, you know, a 30 goal pace at the very least. And hopefully there’ll be some multi-goal games for him somewhere along the line that can kind of play with that uh, uh, projection and the pace that he’s on. But, uh, again uh, when you think of the role that he’s been asked to play, not a ton of support, uh, for this hockey club down the middle right now. Uh not perfect, but uh like the team, there’s been some signs of life here that uh you know, you want to believe uh are steps in the right direction for the Vancouver Conucks. All right, a couple of super chats. I want to get to those. Uh every super chat here in support of the BC Mental Health Foundation, and we really appreciate your support. Told you on the show last night close to $1,800 last season in super chats to all of the Nation Network shows here in Vancouver, and we’re going to make that donation this week, in fact. So, looking forward to that. uh the BC Mental Health Foundation. So, every super chat uh supports and it’s going to a great cause. Justice says huge character win tonight. Pety getting confident. My fave Besser gets another G. And my goodness, Chief Keef Sherwood with a game for the ages. Love the win. Don’t care if we got shaky again late. Another one here coming from uh got to be careful. Mother Nucker 22. That was close. Sign chief Keef yesterday. Yeah, this is going to be this ongoing discussion. The meter is running. It’s contract season for Kefir Sherwood. Um, how many guys uh in and around the age of 30 do you want to commit big dollars in term to? But how do you not want Kefir Sherwood to be part of this mix that they’re trying to put together? The speed, the hustle, the determination, the grit, the hits, everything all rolled into a ball and oh yeah leads this hockey club with six goals now through 10 games. A 60goal pace for Kefir Shu. probably not going to keep it up, but with the 19 last year, I mean, that’s 25 goals for Kefir Sherwood as a member of the Vancouver Conucks, it’s just it’s incredible stuff and uh as you said, the emotion that he brings and it’s just been so consistent. Never takes a shift or a a night off. So, good for him and and good for them as the Vancouver Knox defeat the Oilers by a score of 4-3 in overtime. Let’s get to the three stars. Three stars in this one brought to you by Greta Barvr. I’m sure it was hopping with a full slate of NFL games on this Sunday. You had white caps playoffs. What a weekend. BC Lions were winners. White caps were winners. Canucks were winners. What world are we living in here? City of champions, maybe. Um Gretar, though, it’s in the middle of everything. It’s walking distance from the rink in the stadium. If you’re looking for a place to watch the games on TV, well, they got you covered there as well. All kinds of big screens. Uh we got that area up at the back uh where we’ve hosted the Conucks Army watch parties and we’ll have more of those as the season rolls along. There are uh drink specials, there’s game day specials, there’s the street food menu we tell you about. And oh yeah, if you’re looking for other things to do, uh the arcade games and all kinds and a great assortment of old school arcade games there. Terrific place. Gretar, place to be. 50 West Cordova. Gretar, let the games begin. three stars in the building. And I see on social that the three stars in the Oilers broadcast, uh, getting a bit of a chuckle from Kuck fans because Home Cooking there, uh, the first two stars were Oilers. They lost. Yeah. Uh, the three stars in the building, we always like to see uh Kefir Sherwood, Leon Dryidle, and Brock Besser. And you know what? Two nights in a row. I think uh their selection and our selections have been the same. But there is Kefir Sherwood, star number one. two goals, four shots, buzzing all night. The speed was evident. Uh just fun to watch when he is in beast mode like he was in his hockey game. Leon Dryetttle playing his 800th game in the National Hockey League. He comes up with a pair. Leads the Oilers now with seven goals on the season. His second of the two. Oh, the first one was a thing of beauty. The long bomb pass from Evan Buchard breakaway and made no mistake. And then the second one, Oilers hunting on the power play, looking for the equalizer. And there’s Dry Settle attacking from the right side. Left-handed shot and able to slam it past Demco. So, three shots, two goals. And there’s Brock Besser, a goal, two assists. So, a threepoint night for Brock Besser. And again, the Conucks needed some guys to step up and be offensive catalysts. And uh guys like Kefir Sherwood and Brock Besser certainly there. Honorable mention to Elias Patterson. It was another step in the right direction. There were other guys we talked about some of the defenseman and the workload that they shouldered here. Phil Arona placed 28 minutes 19 seconds. Marcus Patterson 2721 unfortunately took the penalty late that the Oilers scored on. Um so his ice time if he hadn’t been in the box might have been even higher than that. But uh you know that’s what happens when a minute muncher like Quinn Hughes comes out of the lineup. Others have to step up and fortunately the conducts able to spread it around. You know, part of the story here, too, is that the Conucks went down to five defensemen for the final 25 plus minutes of this game, 27 minutes of the game. Victor Mancini left the game late in the second period, did not return. The Conucks announced on X that he would not be back in the game. Uh, you know, a little detective work here is his final shift. He takes a hit from Trent Frederick and looks like he’s laboring but stays in the play and skates off under his own steam and kind of there was so much else going on in the late stages of the second period that it kind of went under the radar that nobody noticed that Victor Mancini was gone but uh you’re already Quinn Hughes you’re without Forbert. Uh you know the list goes on and on here. Uh again, we’ll wait an update, but Mancini just recalled getting his opportunity, was playing well in this hockey game. Uh so that’s uh disappointing and and again, fingers crossed that just too many injuries for the Canucks right now. So let’s hope that uh it’s a short stay uh in the sick bay for Victor Mancini because uh we all want to see this guy continue to play. Had the great camp in the preseason and earned his spot and um yeah, you just hate to see anybody leave a hockey game like that. Yeah, it was it was totally upsetting because I I have him written down a lot on my notepad. Like he stood out in this game. He had a bunch of good defensive breakups. Um there was one play against Curtis Lazar. He was coming down the wing with speed and Mancini did a really good job to steer him right in the corner and completely minimized the opportunity. Stole the puck and cleared the zone like and he even got power play time too. I mean he did. Yeah. Probably because no Quinn Hughes and Herona got the bump up. But I mean who else is going to play in the power play? Tyler Myers is in a Yeah. in a pinch. But as time marches on and Tyler Myers is 35 going on 36, it’s good to see that they have another option and this time it was Mancini getting a chance and it was second power play sort of mop up duty, but still um feather in his cap to get National Hockey League power play duty at this stage of his young career. So uh again, one of the story lines coming out of this one that we will monitor. Uh we’ll get to the stat that stands out shortly as well. Well, it just feels like uh everything is Person here on the the postgame stream because we mentioned that Marcus Patterson, he played a careerhigh. DPD played a careerhigh as well. He got up over 20 minutes in this hockey game. Previous careerhigh for Elias Patterson, Elias Patterson, the defenseman was 16 minutes and 44 seconds. So, he absolutely crushes his career high. where you said you had Mancini written down and for good reason. I thought outside of McDavid walking him and look, McDavid’s walked a lot of players in the National Hockey League, so there’s no shame in that. I thought DPD had a really solid game. Uh first period penalty kill when McD McDavid tried to beat him down the right wing boards, played it perfectly, sealed him off, took the body. I think McDavid felt that. Uh kind of went to the bench and you could see him feeling the effects of the hit there. Uh I thought DPD was uh assertive. You know, he’s not a guy that’s going to rack up a ton of points, but uh he found his way onto the score sheet as well uh for the Vancouver Conucks. Gets the second assist on Kefir Sherwood’s first of two on the night. So uh you look at the night for DPD, 20 minutes and 22 seconds, a shot. He had three attempts. He had a hit as well, couple block shots. Uh this is still a young guy that hasn’t even played a half of I think he’s at 39 career games uh or 38 career games. They learning on the job. But I when you’re matching up against Conor McDavid because you don’t have other options and you’re holding your own. I thought it was a really strong night for him as well. And that leads us into our stat that stands out. And the stat that stands out on Rickwide is delivered by Uber Eatats. And Uber Eats is enabling fans to maximize their fandom all season long with exclusive game day deal deals on the app. Every time the Conucks are playing at home, you can get a buy one get one six-piece chicken McNuggets from McDonald’s in Vancouver only on Uber Eats. From game day eats to paper plates and napkins if you’re hosting to all the ingredients you need to make your favorite game day dip before, during, or after the game. Uber Eatats is assisting every fan’s hockey experience all season long. Hashtag crave the stats. And we got two stats that stand out and they both involve yeah see in big bold letters Persons. It’s a lot of T’s and a lot of S’s. Uh Sunday against Edmonton was the first time all three of the Canucks Persons recorded a point in the same game. Now DPD has four career points. So again, you’re not looking to him. Uh this was his first point of the season. It was Marcus Patterson’s first point of the season. He got the assist the second assist on the Besser goal to open the scoring and then EP 40 with the the one-time blast. So, uh you expect offense from EP40. The other two, you take that as a bonus when it happens. Uh this is wild stuff though. Um the two guys with the same name played the exact same amount in this hockey game. Elias Patterson, Elias Patterson both logging 20 minutes and 22 seconds. Like, how’s that possible? How How does that happen? It’s got to be the first time ever, I would think. So, it’s probably the first time in NHL history that two guys with the same names on the same night. Uh, you know, obviously the Greg Adams, but there aren’t a lot of uh examples of that. That’s just bizarre happen stance there. So, uh, bonus for you. You get two stats that stand out on this night and they both involve the Patterson. would have been something if Marcus Patterson’s sac time was at that same number. But again, he played 2721. So, they leaned on him and Phil Heronic an awful lot. Uh Troy and Mel K saying in the chat, “Let’s talk about three forwards in OT.” All right, let’s talk about three forwards in OT. Patterson, De Bras, eronic start, and then yeah, out of necessity, Adam Foot. And we see other coaches do this. Um a bit of a roll of the dice. you got nobody that uh plays the game, you know, defensively or at least thinks the game defensively, but in threeon-ree it’s about creating chances and pulling the trigger. And that’s exactly what the trio of Sherwood, Besser, and Garland did. So, uh, you know, I was kind of curious to see how would they read off each other, how would uh, you know, you kind of need the pick and roll in overtime to free up some space and get into open space and then a guy’s got to find you. Uh this time it was Besser shooting from distance and Kefir Sherwood would go into the net. Uh but I like it. I like it because it worked for the Conucks, but even if it hadn’t, if the game had continued, I would have said, “Yeah, good on Adam foot going with three forwards. Progressive move. I like it.” Yeah, when you’re short-handed like that. And I don’t know if Mancini necessarily would have got in if I don’t know if you want to trust him, you know, kind of still finding his game at the NHL level if you want to trust him in overtime. But I I liked it as well. I mean, you had the puck, you had the possession. It’s all about offensive zone time and kind of ragging the puck until you get that opportunity which they found. But you also had Garland and Sherwood out there who were two of your best penalty killers. So you did have some defensive coverage in case anything happened and you had to get pinned in the defensive zone. But uh luckily it wasn’t against McDavid and Dry Settle. I think they picked their battle pretty well there. Well, and again, 10 games in, it’s too soon to be making general, you know, sweeping observations, but beyond regulation killed this team last year. They left way too many points on the table. They’re two for two. They won a shootout in Chicago and they beat the Oilers in overtime here. Uh, steps in the right direction. Again, every point matters. And so for the Canucks to get off to this start and do it without Quinn Hughes, uh, good on them again for grinding out a victory against the Edmonton Oilers. Uh, I can’t even read this name on the fly. Dr. I’m not even going to try, but uh, in the chat, happy to hear the Let’s Go PD chance. Welld deserved. Yeah, last season it was a little cringe. I thought it was just obviously wasn’t going his way and it just felt so forced and contrived to pump him up. Pump up the $12 million guy. This was organic. He scores a nice goal. The Conucks are winning two nothing against the fierce rival. Uh people were having fun and the let’s go PD chant arose. And in this instance didn’t have uh as big a problem with it. Uh people pay their money. They can pretty much do whatever they want. uh you know within the realms of good taste or the realm of good taste. Uh so I think it was the fan base reacting and responding to a guy that had just scored and a really nice goal. Um apparently they still love him through all the ups and downs and there have been a lot of downs in the last 18 months but again we’re we’re seeing some signs of life here. So uh yeah all right acknowledge it. We’ll acknowledge it at the very least. Uh and we’ll see if it becomes but they were chanting Ke for Sherwood’s name. It was a night for chance at Rogers Arena. Uh, and again, that’s like a signed as a role player because of the way he played against the Conucks in the playoffs to 25 goals and the crowd chanting his name. Like, it really is a remarkable remarkable story that Kefir Sherwood has authored here uh in his short time as a Vancouver Canuck. Let’s talk a little bit about that second period because we went through Pety with the onetime blast and then Sherwood thinks he’s given the Conucks a three nothing lead up the gut. Just an incredible play. It’s too bad it didn’t stand because that was an incredible play. As it turned out, he had way more up his sleeve. But um even with the long legs, Tyler Myers unable to straddle the blue line and so Myers put himself offside on that play. Drew O’ Conor made a nice play with the puck and dropped it off for Sherwood and he did the rest from there. And so from three nothing it’s back to two nothing and you’re thinking all right like get the next one again because you don’t want to leave the Oilers hanging around and sure enough we talked about the breakway for all the praise of all the other I thought it was a bit of a rough night for Tyler Myers and you just have to know when and where Leon Dryidle is at all times and he can’t be behind you uh the recipient of the the home run pass and so Dry settle makes no mistake there. And then it gets a little dicey, but here comes Kefir Sherwood to save the day for the Conucks again. And this time it counted around Matias Ecom, who has been doing this defending thing in the NHL for a long time with a lot of success. Although maybe shown his age a little. It’s been a tough start to the season for him. Uh to the point that they had to split Buchar Neckholm up as their number one pairing. Not sure that uh Buchar nurse is a whole lot better. But um anyway, Kefir Sherwood again attacking with speed. That was such a theme I thought for this night for the Vancouver Conucks. Uh that just a lot of guys were hustling. And to think that the end of this run of seven games in 11 nights that they had that in their gas tank, good on them. Impressive stuff. Um and Ke for Sherwood with the smarts, the skill, uh the showmanship, the whole bit on display there with 40 seconds to go. So those goals in the final minute of the periods can be huge and I thought this one would be as well, but uh it wasn’t game over as it turned out. U but still uh just some marvelous, marvelous stuff from Kefir Sherwood. Yeah. Uh just the gold that that Evan Buchard pass was very nice. Very nice. And like you said, Myers, you you got to be aware of who’s on the ice and where they are and can’t let dry and I don’t want to talk too much about the Oilers, but that that release from Dryidle, I was watching it back and I was like, I wouldn’t have thought he shot right there. Like that wasn’t a shooting position. And so no fault to Demco there. But yeah, I mean it was a big goal too, like kind of right at the end of the period to send your boys in the guy like the rest of your teammates with all this confidence. Okay, now we still have a twogoal lead. You know, let’s just hopefully park the bus um in the third period. And uh I mean, didn’t necessarily work out that way. A quick goal in the third period, just like last night. Thought we might be going down the same direction. Yeah. Um I I see that Adam Foot has said no update, no timeline, still being evaluated, Victor Mancini. So, uh that’s always a little frightening when uh you get that from the coach. And uh again, Monday is supposed to be a full team day off after back-to-back games. So uh we may not get an update now next availability would be before the Rangers game after the morning skate on Tuesday. So it was 3-1 for the Canucks going to the third period and then oh yeah, Jack Rosavic, remember him? Uh Kucks kicked some tires. It’s been a struggle and and maybe that’s not a surprise for a guy that missed training camp and I’m sure was wondering where his hockey future was. uh hadn’t scored prior to tonight’s game and came into this one with just a single point. Now he had a goal and an assist. So uh uh his best night as an Edmonton Oiler. That was a big time snapshot. Mhm. Up over the shoulder short side. Obviously Pod Coulson gets the assist and you’re right. I think it flashbacks for a lot of people. The Habs scored early in the third period to start their comeback. Uh theirs was on the power play but here it was Ross Lick five on five and now it’s a onegoal game with a lot of time too much time. uh as it turned out. But then the Canucks, Pio Joseph set up by Max Sassin, a glorious scoring opportunity. And again, you’re not looking at P. Joseph to be the trigger guy, but hey, he was the one with the puck on his stick. Uh oh, what might have been there. And then Lucas Reichel a few minutes later from Brock Besser. Um about eight minutes into the period, good opportunity for the newest Kuck. Connor Garland had the building buzzing. He had the Oilers spinning. What a shift. What a start to uh uh the season for Connor Garland who ends up with a couple of assists. So, uh uh you know, didn’t score um and has had nights where he’s been more prominent, but he ends up on the score sheet twice. And that’s again just the kind of season that it’s been uh in the early going for Connor Garland. And wouldn’t that have been something if he had been able to cap that shift with a goal or turned it into a goal for somebody on the Vancouver Conucks? So, you know, lots of moments there in that third period where the Conucks responded and came close and give Calvin Pickard credit as well. He made some saves there. Uh, and then it was Marcus Patterson taking the slashing penalty on Man Japan. And I know he sort of appealed to the ref, but come on, that was a slash all day. U stick was in half. Disciplined game. Um, both teams had two power plays. They each went one for two with a man advantage. So, it wasn’t a parade to the penalty box. and you thought maybe fatigue coming in uh would lead to some poor decisions or guys getting beaten the pucks, whatever. Uh it wasn’t. It was fairly clean hockey game. Um and yeah, the Oilers cashed in on their second of the two power plays. Dry Cidle is seventh, his second of the night. Uh 1457 and that was it for the scoring and then it set up overtime. He for Sherwood from Besser and Garland 143 of OT. The Canucks’s first win in a game decided in sudden death overtime this season. and the other one went to the shootout. Um, and for the Canucks now they snap the three-game losing streak and can just exhale. I think they can all uh use a day off on Monday and then get back at it. As we said, JT coming to town, a game that I think a lot of people uh in this city have had circled on their calendar since the schedule was released uh back in the summertime. Uh you had a good one uh on X. You done some digging. Clearly, this is the first time that EP 40 has scored back-to-back games since when? Second time. Second time he did it he did it in March. But before that, it was November 16th and 17th, I believe, of last season against coming up on November 16th and 17th of this year. I mean that that speaks volumes right there that uh for a guy that had 102 point season on his resume and 39 goal season backtoback goals should be or game goals in backto-back games should be on the regular. So again that one I saw that I was like oh my goodness. But again like we all know the struggles but when you see it kind of laid out like that you just you’re left to shake your head uh and wonder a little bit. But again, some uh some signs of encouragement here that uh maybe he is coming out of the the offensive fog that has dogged him for for far too long now. Uh I I thought this part was fascinating. Um and I try not to read into it too much because every game in the NHL is scouted. There are local scouts based in Vancouver that go to every game. Uh, and so when the Leafs have a scout at the game, it really doesn’t mean that the Toronto A Leafs are honing in on their scout that lives here in Vancouver attends almost every Connect game. And there are a handful of teams that have guys based here. There were 18 separate teams tonight in the National Hockey League. More than half the National Hockey League had a scout in attendance at Rogers Arena. And they aren’t all based here in the city of Vancouver. Now, part of that, I think, is that back-to-back games makes it pretty easy, right? If you are coming to town to look at uh anybody on the Vancouver economics, what a great opportunity on consecutive nights. Uh and for those wondering, and Elliot Friedman threw the Powzaka story out there again on Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday. Yeah, the Bruins were one of the teams. We’ll just uh leave it at that. But uh Scouts Row was crowded in the press box to the point that it forced the Conucks to rejig their seating chart for some of their own employees that they needed enough uh spots in the press box for to accommodate the demand to check out the Vancouver Conucks. So, uh just an interesting little tidbit. And I mean couple of the trade chips, Leramaki and Willander not in the lineup. So, no. What are you looking at? Mancini. You saw not that much of No, 25 35 minutes of him. Uh, one guy that’s not going to get traded, but did get traded the other day, uh, the newcomer. You saw him last night against the Montreal Canadiens with your own eyes. It was my first chance to see Lucas Reichel. I think you have to give him a pass for his debut. When you think of learns on Friday afternoon that he his life has been turned upside down. He gets the trade that he’s looking for, but he’s got to pack up his life. There were flight delays. Didn’t get a whole lot of sleep. Gets here. It’s an early start. new teammates, all that kind of stuff. Uh, and still posts the fastest speed burst of any Vancouver Canuck all season long. So, I mean, that’s his calling card and in his first game under less than ideal logistical circumstances was still able to, you know, get around the ice and and show his speed. I thought a way better performance tonight. Like, he got buried in the faceoff circle. I think he won two of 10 against Montreal. Uh, goes eight and five. So, wins 62% of his draws. Gadox won 58% on the night, which is a story in of itself because they’ve been so bad on faceoffs all season long, but Elias Person won 16. Atu Ratatu was better than 50%. And and there’s Lucas Reichel. Uh still looking for his first point, but boy, he came close. There were a couple of opportunities in the first period. Uh he had a chance all alone in the slot. Uh dry settle turnover. The dry settle turnover. Then he set up uh Tyler Meyers. looked like it should have been a tap in and unfortunately uh couldn’t convert there. We talked about the third period opportunity. So, you know, gets a night’s sleep, settles in a little more familiar with his surroundings, and I thought there were a lot of things to like in his game. And and again, you just hope that these are building blocks. Um and he’ll catch his breath to talk about guys that should sleep well after playing him back toback and and everything else. Uh here’s a guy that could absolutely benefit from a practice and yet in this crazy condensed schedule. Uh Monday’s a day off and then they’re back at it Tuesday and then Wednesday is a travel day as they start their next road trip in St. Louis, they might get a practice on Friday in Minnesota. Um I don’t know that. We’ll have to wait and see. But uh in terms of a home ice practice, like they’re not going to get one until they get back from that three-game road trip. And so this is just life in the National Hockey League. the schedule will settle down a little bit later on. They got some of those big home stands in the second half, but right here, right now, uh practice time hard to come by and that’s going to be difficult for a guy like Lucas Reichel trying to find his way into a new organization. Yeah, and I thought you were right. It’s hard to really evaluate him in his debut. I mean, that was a quick turnaround. He got in that morning, did he uh he spoke postgame and said he didn’t get his nap, so you didn’t have your regular routine. So, I mean, I didn’t really I was looking for him. I was looking, you know, see what kind of player he was, but other than that, you didn’t really recognize him, but you definitely saw him and he had a bunch of chances tonight like you’ve already brought up. But I just want to talk about the their line of Ander Kane, Lucas Riel, and Brock Besser. Um, where is it here? Yeah, controlled 67% of scoring chances at five on five. So, that was that was pretty good in my eyes. They were they had a lot of chances and I I did like what I saw from Riel and he’s not the answer at TUCI. We all we all know that but I do feel like he can bring a little bit of what Hedo brought in terms of speed because like you said he registered the uh fastest speed burst, right? So yeah, it’s just not replacing Heedle but that speed that speed will be really good. And I mean Brock Besser, Vander Kane, we kind of talked about they don’t really have the speed. So if Lucas Reichel can kind of fill the Heedle role and take the puck in into the zone with some speed, then I feel like he could kind of fit in. It’s funny because Besser and Heedle didn’t really mesh. And when you think of Brock Besser and the kinds of players that have brought out the best in him, I’m not sure that Lucas Reichel ultimately is the long-term match here, but whatever the case, as you said, the underlying numbers were terrific. Uh Alias Pedson took on the hard matchup, tried to go head-to-head with Conor McDavid and for the most part held his own and then that allowed Besser to find himself and and Riel. Uh more favorable matchups, the Nooj and others uh in this Edmonton lineup. Um and so for this night, it worked. Brocker had a three-point night. You can’t argue with that. And so um yeah, I I just think a step a big step in the right direction for for Lucas Reichel. And so much of it starts with winning faceoffs and and having the puck and then being able and and I noticed his speed. His speed is probably his biggest asset. Whether he ever figures it out and whether the offense arrives at levels that he’s produced at other levels of hockey, you know, that’s still wait and see here. But I’m with you. I think that uh it was worth the roll of the dice for a fourth round draft pick, especially given where the Conucks were just needing healthy bodies that could step in and play. And so, uh, again, things should slow down a little bit in his world here, uh, as he starts to move forward with the Vancouver Conucks. Uh, Free Pey had a super chat that said, “Where are you guys with Reicho?” I think we covered that one off. Kevin in the chat says, “I think now Holtra had a meeting with all the centers on faceoffs. Everybody looked better today. First time more wins than losses from every center, including Sassin.” Manny was a little busy. Uh, Abbottzford was playing uh, an afternoon game. So, uh, got swept by the Ontario rain this weekend and, uh, it’s going to be a tough slog, I feel for Manny with all the guys that are up here in the National Hockey League and all the turnover that, uh, that team has gone through, but they had the banner raising. I know you were out there on Friday. What a moment for Manny and the entire organization. So, that was cool to see the banner uh, for their CER cup championship, but I think, you know, it’s going to be a struggle. There’s it’s there’s going to be some long nights for uh that whole Abbottzford franchise this year. It’s a different team this year. It just is. Yeah. I mean, Manny even had to deal with it last year, though, right? There was a bunch of injuries to kind of end the year and he got guys plucked off his roster every night. And I mean, that was in the heart of their 13 14 game winning streak last year. So, I mean, can be done. Can be done, but it’s it’s a little tough. And I mean, yeah, I mean, you had guys that are now firmly in the NHL, mostly in the AHL last year with Manny. He doesn’t have that luxury this year. I just wanted to talk more bit about the faceoffs. Yes. Um they they’re the second lowest faceoff percentage in the league coming into the game. They were 42% only behind only ahead of the Buffalo Sabres. Um you don’t want to be keeping company with the Buffalo Sabres in any category. No, of course not. Uh but tonight, yeah, like you said, 57%, 58% on the draws. That’s good. And the Oilers were 53% coming into tonight. That was seventh best. So, I don’t know what happened, but uh yeah, Riel, I mean, he’s a career 40% guy. So, the fact that he went over 60 tonight is positive sign. Hopefully, he can, you know, because he’s been a winger most of his career in the NHL. So, I mean, if he has more nights like tonight, then, you know, that’s that’s huge. That’s huge. Riel went four and three against Dryidle. So he held his own against Leon Dryidle. You’re not going to bully your way to many wins against Dryidle. So good on him there. Uh was three for three against Jack Rosavik. And Elias Patterson owned Conor McDavid. Won 11 of 16 faceoffs head-to-head with McDavid. Uh McDavid’s night. Interesting. 23 minutes and 3 seconds. He picks up the assist, late assist on the dry settle goal. His only point of the weekend though, he didn’t have uh didn’t have a shot attempt in Seattle last night. And he got crushed in the faceoff circle last night. Conor McDavid won five of 20 draws in this hockey game. So, um he had the rush where he walked DPD. There’s when there’s open ice, I mean, the guy shot out of a cannon. Like he takes advantage of open ice like anybody unlike anybody in the National Hockey League. So there were moments his speed was on display, but there’s just I there’s something missing there. Like he just he’s got 12 points in 10 games. Uh just the one goal through 10 games as well. Uh he had three shots and eight attempts. So there were some moments from him in this hockey game. But uh I don’t know like the Oilers have done this before. before. I mean, two years ago cost Jay Woodcraft his job and they got off to that remember that horrible start and then had to scramble uh and ultimately got to the Stanley Cup final, but you know, 10 games into the season. The Edmonton Oilers are tied with the Vancouver Conucks. They both have 10 points through 10 games. Uh we said the Conucks will take their 10 points. Uh that’s a pretty underwhelming 10 points if you’re the Edmonton Oilers coming off your back-to-back Stanley Cup appearances. Now, maybe this is them pacing themselves and understanding that it’s not just 82 games, it’s 25 beyond that if you’re going to get your hands on the Stanley Cup. And they still have designs on being a a Stanley Cup champ. But, uh, they have scuffled out of the gate. And, you know, for me, I I think and the fact that McDavid only has one goal in 10 games. Um, the Oilers as a team have scored more than three goals in a game once. The other night against Montreal, they won six to five. It’s the only time they scored three a bunch including this one. But finding that fourth goal uh has been elusive for them and uh you know they’re given up a bunch and so they need to score uh more than they have to this point. Again, this is a Conucks postgame stream so we’re not going to worry too much about the Edmonton Oilers. We will say uh for this night we get the last laugh because our colleagues from Edmonton ran a they call it a nation vacation and 60 Oiler fans came out to Vancouver for the weekend. They set up shop in a local establishment on Saturday and watched the Oilers in Seattle. took over one of our local bars and then this group of 60 had tickets went to the game on Sunday night and so I’m sure they were feeling pretty good about things when the Oilers tied it up and look at all that firepower in the Edmonton lineup in overtime. Uh but no, we get the last laugh, the Vancouver uh chapter of the nation network on this night. I mean, I hope they had a great time. It’s our city. Sure, they had a fine time in Vancouver, but uh they came to see their team win, and that did not happen. Sure, they were licking their chops when they saw Quinn Hughes was out. Oh, a thousand%. Oh, we got this in the bag. No problem. I had buddies that were texting me like, “Oh, have no chance tonight.” And I like, well, you know, it is strange that the Vancouver Conucks are 76 and two now. In the uh what is that 15 games? Going back to last year, Quinn missed 14 games. Last year they were 66 and two and then they win this one. So they have managed to persevere without their captain and I I want Quinn Hughes in the lineup every night and so do the Vancouver Conucks, don’t get me wrong. Um games are far more entertaining. Quinn by himself, even if he hasn’t been in his best early on, uh still usually worth the price of admission. But we see it all the time, Tyson. This group of Canucks defer way too much to Quinn Hughes. Five on five, particularly on the power play. I get it. He’s the best player and you want him to have the puck on his stick. But with him out of the lineup, I I felt it the Conucks were forced to play a far more direct game tonight. I just thought more guys played it seemed like more guys wanted the puck, more guys went to get the puck. And where maybe in on other nights they’d be looking for Quinn Hughes, they know that he’s not in the lineup. They’re like, “Okay, I’m going to make some things happen myself.” So, if there’s a silver lining to Quinn Hughes being out of the lineup, I think that it forced some other guys just to want the puck more and and and play a far more direct game than maybe they would when the captain’s in there. Yeah. Like you said, obviously you want Quinn Hughes in every single night, but like you said, everybody seemed to have a little bit more jump because now, okay, we don’t have that kind of safety net Quinn Hughes to rely on. We got to go get it ourselves. We got to go do it. And I mean, they did it tonight. That they did it. Yep. Uh all right, let’s hear from uh the man of the night, our first star, Kefir Sherwood up to six goals now. 10 games into the season is goal in overtime. Second of the night was the winner. Uh here is Kefir Sherwood postgame at Rogers Arena. Yeah, I guess we I went to the coaches uh he did the pre-cout and when I uh was told I got Ron, I was uh you sure? But um obviously it worked out. You know, we we uh we practice that stuff in training camp. Uh the threeon three stuff. So it was nice to apply it in a game and obviously um you know every little detail matters. Last year we you know we lost too many in overtime. So it’s good that we’re um you know making making work of uh what we applied. after a few games where the results could have been different, how important was this win, especially with the guys that are out of the lineup right now and Yeah, I mean, you can’t see replace him. Um he’s the best, you know, so we just got to, you know, pull the rope together and and kind of um our identity that we’re continuing to build out each and every day. And um you know, it’s a full 60 minutes. Obviously, we took on some water there and their top guys are going to get some looks, but we just stick together. Denver played a hell of a game again and um yeah, we nice to get two points. How about your And in particular, you and Drew on the for check. Seems like you gave them fits at times. Yeah, it’s something we talked about. We just want to be relentless on the for check and get pucks back and from there uh you know, talked to the coaches today and they just said just stick with it, you know, just um things will open up and uh they were right. So, it was um you just trust the process and you know, stick to the the blue collar mentality that we’re trying to build and um that that momentum and energy is contagious for the next lines, too. How much did you need this game? you know, two goal lead tonight and a really tough string of games. Yeah, I mean uh the games are coming fast here. So, um you know, we got to just dig in and every day is a new day and uh you know, it’ be nice that, you know, we can just keep rolling and get on a nice streak, but it starts with one and uh you know, we got a big game now against New York coming up. So, um we got to buckle in and stay ready. Given the schedule, there you go. some thoughts from Kefir Sherwood said he was surprised when the coaches told him that he was going to replace Philip Heronic and that was going to the three forward set that we discussed a little earlier. So yeah, you get that tap don’t ask questions, don’t look back, look forward and that’s what Kefir Sherwood did and he talked about uh the importance of getting a win here at this uh juncture this crazy stretch of of hockey that the Canucks have been forced to play and he has been terrific uh through these first 10 games for the Vancouver Conucks. I’d like to talk a little bit about Philip Heronic because I feel like we need to give him a little bit more credit. We were talking about Quinn Hughes being out of the lineup. When Hughes is out, Heronic steps up. In 11 games, I just looked this up. In 11 games without Hughes, he’s got 11 points. It’s point per game without Hughes. He steps up. He plays the big minutes. He can He can run the power play like we saw tonight picking up the primary assist on the PY goal. What what do you think about Heronic? Well, I mean, I admire anybody that plays 28 minutes on the back end of back to backs. Uh, you know, he was a horse and I was worried there in the second period when he went down. It looked awkward. Uh, it looked a little scary, quite frankly, for a few seconds. Looked like he got knocked out. I I’m not sure what went on. Um, whatever the case, was able to pick himself up. They needed him. He stayed in this hockey game and he logged a ton of ice time as we said up over 28 minutes on the nights for so right then and there. Uh and as you said like he’s done this before. Uh he’s a veteran guy and he’s a true pro. So I’m not shocked that he’s able to step in and man the point of the power play in terms of running the power play. Nobody’s going to replace Quinn Hughes and do the things that Quinn Hughes does. But uh Philip Ronic admirally admirably able to to contribute to the power play. I’m just looking here. He played 10 minutes and one second of the third period. So up over half of the third period there. The one thing I will say about Philip Cronin had the great assist Julius Personson on Saturday against Montreal. No shot attempts and this is a guy that can shoot the puck. Um I mean they can all shoot the puck but he can step into it. And so, uh, whether it’s on the power play or in 28 minutes of ice time, there are moments where the puck comes to him and I just like to see him wind up and fire it. And if it hits people, hey, so be it. Maybe they think twice the next time if he winds up. So, uh, that would be my only criticism. But on a night where far more praise and yeah, absolutely. I’m glad uh you took the conversation there and and give him his flowers. Yeah, I just think he needs a little bit more credit for what he can do when when he is out. I mean, point per game for a defenseman stepping into big minutes and big shoes. He’s got a fill. Uh, yeah, he deserves credit. Got a fill. Nice one. I get it. Uh, super chat coming in from Demaniac Studios. Team hovered around 500 for much of last season, but injuries and poor play derailed things late. What makes this year different for the group? I would say the guy at the back makes an awful lot of difference and has already uh in his performance. He has four of the five wins for the Vancouver Conucks. It’s been a tough start for Kevin Lankanin. I think uh we’re not there yet, but if that trend of these two goalenders performing the way they have through the first 10 games continues, are the Conucks at risk of leaning a little more on Thatcher and Demco and and that’s got red flags written all over it. And so Lankin’s got to find a way uh given up too many goals quite frankly. 15 goals in his four starts. He has just the one victory. So that would be my easy answer is that uh uh you know you saw again that Demco coming through and giving them the kind of goalending that allowed them to win this hockey game. um night like tonight, lots of guys stepped up, guys that uh they needed to be difference makers. And that was the disappointment I think for me or one of the big disappointments from Saturday was that you get Person, you get De Brusk, uh you get the guys that you want scoring the goals, Connor Garland, and they couldn’t get it to overtime and get something out of that hockey game. Here they were forced to go to overtime. They end up getting the victory, but um no, I mean, it’s 10 games. That’s why I said like I think a lot of people will sort of step back and this will be the first evaluation point of the season. Okay, they’re at the 10ame mark, but it’s still awfully early and given what they’ve been through on the injury front, you know, we really haven’t seen uh the Vancouver Conucks. There have been some moments, there have been some periods where they’ve looked really good. Uh there have also been some periods where they have not been very good. And so five and five is probably an accurate record. Uh, but there’s more to the story. If you just looked, if you weren’t following the Cox and just looked at the box score and said five and five to start, it’s probably, you know, pretty average start then as you dig in and obviously our viewers and listeners know the injury story. Um, it’s been a challenge. It’s and and the schedule as well. So I think at five and five uh you step back for a day and you take that and you hope that five and five is you at the end of the season in a perfect world five and five will be one of your poor 10ame segments because to get to the playoffs you got to be 15 games above 500 and so does this team have it in it to get to 15 maybe maybe 15 games over 500 would get you to 97 points maybe a few less than that but the bottom line is 500’s not going to cut it. We know that 82 points in 82 games. So, you’re going to need up over 92 and probably closer to 95. So, at some point, they’re going to have to get on a run. And let’s see if they can get some injured bodies back and what their lineup looks like at that point. And so, again, I think five and five all things considered, uh, not a problem with that record. You mentioned something about Lanken and I just had a thought. Um, remember last season when it was Lankin and Sheils and you could tell that the Conucks were playing a little bit differently in front of Lankin than they were in front of Sheilovs. They were a little bit more confident when Lankanim was behind them. If Lankin kind of continues on, you know, struggling out of the gate here. I’m kind of I’m going to be watching to see how they play differently because you know they obviously have trust in Lankin and they’re always going to talk about that but I just want to see if that actually translate on the ice after this start you know because they know they got Demco back there and they had some jump tonight. Obviously the first game against the Oilers when Demco was there that’s a little bit of a different story but something I’m just going to keep an eye on moving forward. The schedule doesn’t present backtobacks now until November 8th and 9th. Both of them are at home. They’ve got Columbus and Colorado. So, they’re going to split those two. Um, but I do wonder in between like Demco wins, you got JT and that whole storyline. You know that they want to beat JT and the Rangers and I think you come back with Thatcher Demco there. Then you start the road trip in St. Louis. St. who has already beat Lankan once this year, but that would then be three in a row for Thatcher Demco. I think he has to be able to give you three consecutive starts. Mhm. But, you know, the game after that’s Minnesota. I know Minnesota’s kind of been up and down, but obviously they got Capri off in Baldi. They can score goals. Uh, and then the road trip wraps up in Nashville. Lincoln, a former Predator. Reds don’t score a lot of goals. like maybe you’d like Kevin Lanken to get that game. Um but you know if he doesn’t play again till Nashville then that is playing one two three four in a row here. I’m not sure that they’re going to go that direction and just take it game by game but um again it’s been a struggle for Lincoln and Demco has been like so good. Um, and I just I do wonder if internally there’s sort of some feeling that they want to lean more on Demco understanding uh the risk of doing so. Uh, a reminder to make sure that you follow us on all of our socials and particularly subscribe to the Rinkwide YouTube channel. I know you’ve been scouring uh the Bet365 offerings. What have you come up with? Well, there’s only two games on the NHL slate tomorrow. Um, cover your eyes, Kucks fans, but we’re going to be betting on the Boston Bruins on the money line. Plus 145. A $10 bet would return 2450. Um, Ottawa, no Brady Kachchuck. They’re allowing the third most goals against the entire league. 3.9 hasn’t been himself. He’s got a below 900 save percentage. Yeah, he’s busy fighting now. Yeah, that was awesome. Did a number on Washington. Um, and Swayman’s expected to start. Feel like you got the goalie edge there. So, um, I like that one. Whatever your bet is, it’s never ordinary at bet 365. Download the app and get it on the game. Use the code nation to get you started. Reminder, you must be 19 or older. Please play responsibly. All right. Uh, we’ll finish up with a couple of thoughts on the New York Rangers here in a sec, but before we do that, I do want to hear from Adam Foot. So, let’s get down to the Raj again. Then we’ll get to the podium and uh here’s the head coach after a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers. Well, Adam, what did you like about the performance from your group tonight to stick with it after the Oilers got back into it and ultimately get the win? It’s a great sign for us. Uh we get that road trip and the pit game, we were all over them early and it didn’t go our way. Uh could have easily put that away. Nashville as well. and then you know um even our last game. So to see I think you don’t want to go through this the way we’re going through it but it’s going to help us at the end uh whatever wherever the end is. um to go through this now. Our belief is so much different now where um we’d go rogue maybe in the past uh get off our belief of how we’re going to play and when they tied it up, we we kept going. We kept uh being relentless and uh believing the system and it was all four lines and uh all our D and Denver and that’s what I love about the game. We’re playing against a good hockey team. They lost last night. They came in with the heat again. Um they were going and and we didn’t give them a lot five on five and um we had a a mistake but so did they. That’s hockey. So there was a lot of good things tonight. How important was that Okconor Ratu and Sherwood line particularly on the four check to help you generate some on time. Yeah, they were good. That was Okconor’s best game of the year. He he he seemed to you know he hit the bar I think on the one and then the the goal what he got got called back and I’m like okay is this guy going to get a break and he he played so well defensively his best defensive game without the puck they’re a good team off the rush they hit the weak side five on five they’re trying to hit the weak side a lot and he he played really well um without the puck tonight which was huge um but I also thought the kid line uh as we get going we’ll probably use them more like but trying to break them in easy but they play so well together and they give us so much speed and they forch check and um you know all our lines uh we had a hard matchup with Pey over McDavid. I loved his the way he committed to the def defensive side of it and I thought Riel played really well with Kainer um against dry sail. You talked earlier today just wanting to see the team control their emotion and play to their game. Is that what you saw from the group today? I did. Uh, you know, there’s so many guys that are are starting to really figure it out. Like I really like Garly’s game and where he was with his growth as a leader uh in the third period when maybe you know things were kind of going maybe the way we didn’t like it and he was just real calm. I like that. I thought Person was real calm and um it was good to see. Speaking of controlling emotion, there you go. Adam Foot praise for a bunch of guys. uh a guy that we really didn’t talk an awful lot about, but uh high praise there for Drew O’ Connor. Now, there’s no bottom line. Um he did get an assist on the goal that was overturned, and Adam Foot is right. He hit the post moments before that as well. So, uh there were moments in this hockey game, his speed was noticeable. Drew a penalty as well. Uh did lots of things. I I still am not sure where the bottom line is going to come from. Um, and what my expectations ultimately should be for Drew O’ Conor. I think it’s four goals since the trade and just two of them at five on five. Uh, flies around. The speed is noticeable, but can he harness it and use it to the good? He did tonight. Uh, maybe there’s a step in the right direction. But, uh, that line for sure. Sherwood, Ratu, and, uh, Sherwood, they were buzzing all night long. Yeah, I don’t have too many notes on uh on Okconor, but sometimes that’s a good thing because he, you know, he wasn’t the most flashy player and that’s not his game. He’s not expected to be that flashy player, but um when you get praise from your coach for doing the right things, uh it’s a good night. And as Adam Foot said, best defensive game and obviously there are a lot of people that will say, “Hey, well, there’s no goals, there’s no assists, we got hung up on points.” Coaches see the game much differently. They certainly see it uh uh both ends of the ice and so obviously Adam Foot liked what he saw from Gro Connor on the offensive side of the puck. All right, so now the Conucks will take Monday off and then come back morning skate on Tuesday. Almost all the talk will be about the return of JT Miller. Uh the Rangers are going to arrive here in a bit of a foul mood. They got pumped in Calgary by the Flames who don’t pump anybody or any pucks into the net. Calgary scored five times in this hockey game. So, it’s a week’s worth of goals for the Calgary Flames, but they were all over the Rangers, uh, who are 35 and two to start the season. So, just three wins in 10 games for them. Uh, we know the story about their home ice record. Still haven’t won at Madison Square. Most of their success has come on the road. This is their first regulation loss on home on the road. So, they’ve been better on the road than they have been at home. Uh but boy, they’re going to have to bounce back and respond to a 5-1 thumping by one of the worst teams in the National Hockey League. This was a battle of the two lowest scoring teams in the NHL coming into this one. The Rangers looked the part, the Flames did not. And as far as the Rangers go, Adam Fox, he’s off to a nice start. He and Tammy Paneran tied with seven points a piece. And there’s JT Miller. He’s got six. So, an okay start by JT Miller’s standards, but he’s the captain. How does he respond and react after a loss? He’s certainly seen the Calgary Flames up close over the last bunch of years while he was here. Um Taylor Radish leads the Rangers with four goals. Three of them came in the same game the other night, but that sort of tells you part of the story, too. Uh they’ve got some high price talent and Taylor Radish leads their team. Uh, Igor Shurkin had outrageous numbers coming into tonight, but those take a hit. He was uh on the hook for all five of those Calgary goals. So, what do you expect? What uh sort of big picture? What do you think the reaction will be for JT Miller? And uh do we see any sort of uh fireworks of any kind? Do they stick to playing hockey? What do you think happens on Tuesday night? I don’t know. I’m looking forward to it, but I I don’t think it’s going to be negative. I think the fans recognize, you know, one of them kind of had to move on and, you know, they look at all the positives like you remember game five when he scored that goal with just a handful of seconds left in the game like how much they loved him. They’ll remember the good moments with JT Miller. So, I’m expecting a good um experience for the fans. Uh in terms of anything on the ice, I don’t think so. I think when Miller left, they were talking about how much they liked him and they were still friends with them. You know, maybe Nautilus is Person. Who knows? But, um, I don’t I’m not expecting too many fireworks, but All right, here’s a question for you. Yeah, they were chanting at Rogers Arena tonight. No way. Do we get a JT Miller? No way. No, I don’t know. People have turned the page. I think so. I think that’s I mean, he’s going to get the video tribute as he should. I mean, this guy laid it on the line for five plus years. Um, so he’ll get the welcome back that players who have left an impression uh get, but I am curious. I I think some fans will go rogue. I think there will be people in the building that try to start a JT Miller chain. Now that you brought it up, I think so, too. And if he scores, no way. No, I think Al Murdoch understands uh he’s got to tow that company line. Uh he’ll play it straight. But, uh, he’ll probably have to fight the urge as well because that was such a big part of, uh, the whole game presentation package anytime that JT put pucks in the net. In terms of what to expect from the Rangers, I’m actually a little concerned for the Conucks after you get, it’s never good when you lose. If you’re one of the lowest scoring teams in the league and you get dumped on like this against another one, not a good look. They’re going to be pretty pissed off. And I mean, Shurken went tonight. Yep. I 833 say percentage. That’s not Shist Sturken. I kind of expect a little bit of a bounce back. Um I think the whole team’s going to be angry after that one. And yeah, I mean I think they’re going to want to win it for JT. So I I would expect that Shurken goes again. They have no backtobacks on this trip. Jonathan Quick will play somewhere along the line. Uh but I would imagine that Shurkens earned the right to get right back in net and try and um atone for the team’s performance. Uh tough night for Carson Susi. He was on the ice for at least three of the Calgary goals. So, uh, he there won’t I mean, he’ll get acknowledged, too, but to a much lesser degree. This isn’t about Carson Susi’s return on Tuesday night. This is about the return of one JT Miller. All right. Uh, fun night of hockey. A busy weekend. Canucks get the split that they so badly needed. Lost to Montreal, but they bounce back and get it done without the captain. And that’s going to be a storyline moving forward here as well. Uh, will we see Quinn Hughes on Tuesday night? 4-3 the Vancouver Conucks over the Edmonton Oilers. Kefir Sherwood with a pair. He’s up to six. His second of the night, the overtime winner, Brock Besser and Elias Peterson. EP40, the other goal scorers for the Vancouver Conucks. Jacob Fraser working hard behind the scenes here, helping us out producing this episode of Rink Vancouver. Tyson, great to get you back in here and I know that uh we’ll have you back a bunch of times as this season rolls along. So, thank you. Two and0 now. Two and0. You’re two. Two and0. Yeah. I’m keeping a tally on my notepad. Don’t worry. Right. You’re here for the Washington game. Yeah. Back toback Sundays. All right. So, it’s start power two of Etchkin McDavid. Uh, right. Back-to-back Sundays. Uh, both 43 finals, too. There you go. Look at that. Um, well, the Canucks will sign you up if that’s going to be the way that the season goes. But we’ll look forward to the next time you’re in. Turf is back on Tuesday for JT Miller night and we’ll see if the Canucks can spoil uh their former teammates return to our city. That’s going to do it for us here. Thanks so much for checking out this episode of Ever and Quiet Vancouver. [Music]

Petey has the most blocked shots among NHL forwards btw. Just start watching the VOD, hopefully don’t hear more negativity from jpat.
JPat, it’s ok if fans in the arena were trying to get behind Petey last year. If the crowd is supportive, that’s a good thing. The money is committed, like it or not.
Jpat for the love of all that’s holy get a couple of dumbbells and do some shoulder exercises it’s uncomfortable to look at 😂
sherwood is such a spark of life on this team. really hope we can keep him
EP looking good!
Best game ep40 has played in 2 years, he looked elite.
Sherwood 5×7 sign him now!
Sherwood is so good that this management team will find every reason not to re-sign him, just like Suter.
EP40 is looking good 👊
ep40 was a beast. so was sherwood. life without quinn if we have to go that way doesn't seem so scary when you see what this group is capable of. reichel is a bargain costing a 4th. 18 different team scouts? alvin must have expanded player availability in a trade for a centre.
The radio broadcast took note of several excellent defensive plays by Reichel, not mentioned here.
Seriously, how does the host of a hockey broadcast not have a decent base of hockey knowledge?
