[Quick] Canales looking into potentially starting Dowdle

  1. It was something I was looking into and talking about the past few weeks as well

  2. Stroke of genius Dave. Most coaches would opt for the 3 YPC guy instead of the 6 YPC guy.

  3. Taking the starting job away from a healthy captain with a new contract who is also favorite of ownership is not as straightforward as changing the lineup on your fantasy team.

  4. Keep rubbing those two brain cells together Dave you’re headed in the right direction!

  5. Translation: “i wasnt gonna start him but since the front office told me I should, Il look into it”

  6. Duh.
Rico playing like he wants a resigned contract since he’s hot hand and I hope he continues to dominate because he wants to win for this team. Chuba will be okay and he will still get paid, he’s done his part enough especially last year.

  7. Honestly thought Dave was going to stupidly split carries for the rest of the season. He is a reactive not proactive coach. When a player shows you who they are on the field, believe them. 200+ yards per game in back to back games doesn’t just happen. Personnel choices have held this team back.

  8. He better look really damn hard, and maybe see about getting some glasses since apparently everyone in the known universe can see it but him.

  9. I’m just not sure why this was made to be such a complicated decision.

Your RB had 2 incredible all-pro-esque games in a row. Ride that fuckin train man lol it just feels like the staff so overthought this.

  10. It was clear when Chuba came back that he was not 100%. Dowdle is the clear better RB right now and should be RB1. Use Chuba in short down & goal line situations and if Dowdle needs a break.

  11. It feels like they’ve been hesitant because they gave Chuba a big sparkling new contract and also think really highly of him (rightfully) so they feel obligated to field him as #1/1.5 despite the stats screaming at them to PLAY RICO DOWDLE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Dave has stressed and stressed that everything is about football and production throughout his tenure so far, but I’m thinking this is a red herring situation for him. Do the logical decision.

  12. Dave is a culture guy and wants to build a “player-led” team.

Personnel losing their positions is not going to happen instantly because it undermines the message and culture. It makes him look fake.

This Buffalo game gives him the numbers to point to when players confront him about it.

  13. I think this comes back to “you can’t lose a job due to injury”. We’ve given chuba the chance to prove himself the last two games, clearly Rico is in better form.

  14. I think Dave did the right thing. You go w the guy whose been consistent, give him the chance that hes earned, and if it dont work out, then change your mind. People act like Chuba is a bum all the sudden and is not our 5th best rb in Panthers history.

  15. Dave . . . I think we all are thinking that and have been talking about it since week 6

  16. He’s either incredibly unadaptive/stubborn or just incredibly loyal to Chuba… it never made sense to not ride the hot hand with Rico after BACK TO BACK 200 yard games. Rico is the better player currently and has been over the last month.

Canales is really losing my confidence in him through his overall decision making as a coach, and this decision the last 2 weeks is one of the most damning imo. We just look so anemic with Chuba rn

  17. I’m an auburn football fan and the parallels between my 2 teams are extraordinary. We can’t find a HC or QB for shit

  18. I think Canales is going to be fired at the end of the season. Way too many no-brainer coaching mistakes combined with these embarrassing blowout losses. He is clearly not getting the most out of the talent and at times not even putting the most talented player on the field.

Dan Morgan looks like he is doing a pretty solid job. Dave does not.

  19. I look into the mirror every day saying I’ll start getting skinny and still haven’t started. Hope Canales doesn’t pull a me.

  20. It doesn’t matter who starts. The problem isn’t the starter, which currently does need to be Dowdle for the record but I digress, it’s their stupid rotation plan. Making Dowdle RB1 won’t magically make that better.
