The bengals never make quick coaching or management changes (example: Marvin Lewis). Don’t expect Taylor to be fired. There is a greater chance that he resign imo
Ironically, I think this speaks more to the lack of infrastructure to assess and develop players than it does speak to Zac’s inability to win games.
Think about it, Jake Browning is cheeks for 4 games… bring in Flacco and they average 35 pts per game, 100 yds rushing, 300+ yds passing.
Duke Tobin should have been fired last year, should be fired at the end of this year, and instead, we will watch the Pre-Season crew kiss is useless ass while he offers zero insight into how he’s managed to form one the worst defenses in NFL history.
Fire Duke Tobin.
I was curious so I looked it up, during the same time span and with the same point output, the rest of the NFL is 23-1. The single team not from Cincinnati to lose in the last 18 months when scoring 38+ points is Buffalo when they lost to the Rams in Dec. 2024 in a game the LA needed to keep themselves in playoff contention. LA won that game 44-42 and the teams combined for more than 900 yards of offense. Josh Allen became the only player to pass and rush for 3TDs each in the same game in the losing effort.
Doesn’t this imply Zac’s offense is actually great and nothing they’ve done on defense works?
Meaningfully what could he have done differently to make the defense better in the offseason?
Fuck this org
I know we like to fire Zac all the time. But I do think this is the first year where not only is it more likely but even Duke’s seat is hot. I’d argue that player personnel on defense is the issue. We do not have the right players to stop the run. When offenses can run on you everything is harder. We have no line disruption, no interior stuffing or pass rush. The rest of the defense is not good enough to cover for that giant weakness. DJ Reeder and Jesse Bates shoes have not been close to filled. We’ve changed defensive coaches and are having the same results. Bates and Reeder leaving might have been against Duke’s wishes but the void being as unfilled as it has been is on him and his team even if limited. I do think ownership will reevaluate their process and hopefully grow this might include giving Duke more staff to work with or moving on. I think Zac himself is on the hottest seat he has ever been on but I don’t think it’s entirely his fault. He is in name the head coach but feels more like an offensive coordinator that simply out ranks all the other coaches. I am curious to see how the team would do if he dropped play calling to focus on the full team and embrace his official role.
And the losing every Sunday game after a Thursday game 10 days previously
This stat is absolutely insane
I don’t know if Zac is responsible for defensive play calling like he is for offense but the Bengals woes associated with still losing games when scoring lots of points is directly caused by their insistence in soft, padded, prevent defense packages whenever they go up by any points, any time late in games. It’s like clockwork. Up by any amount of points and the fourth quarter just started? We better just drop everyone into padded coverage way downfield and let our opponent pick up 5-15 yards per play so we run the clock out. Then the other team just marches down the field unobstructed, takes the lead, and it becomes a back and forth that we lose.
You all need the LSU administration to get rid of him. They lose 3 of 4 to top 25 teams and out goes Kelly.
