Those shots better drop. A lot of clanking going on last night.
I am happy with the open shots generated, and agree those will fall, but not happy with the way the Knicks played. They got out-physical-ed and out-hustled until the last 6 minutes when they decided to turn it on. And the transition defense was completely unacceptable.
I am happy with how we played last night, but very disappointed with the rotations
You can’t play Kolek without a PnR partner (either KAT Mitch or Huk) because then youre just playing a negative defender who isn’t contributing on offense. He was on the floor with Hart/Shamet/OG/Yabu, just a terrible lineup all around.
You can’t put Yabusele back in the game in the 4th quarter with how bad he was on offense and defense. He immediately missed like two layups when subbing back in and then was scored on like three times. You don’t have to play KAT 40 minutes a game, but there are other options at the 5 you can put in there to give KAT a quick rest
You have to play Hukporti more than 10 minutes, Brunson played the best when Hukporti was on the floor because he was giving good screens and rolling hard to the rim to give Brunson more spacing. It reminded me alot of Hartenstein in 2024. Nobody else was giving Brunson that kind of assistance last night
The ONLY issue I had with last night is that Yabu can’t be playing the 5. He is too small for the 5 who tends to play out of position, and got owned by bigger guys such as Bam and Ware. Our defense and rebounding suffered with him at the 5 when he should be playing at the 4.
I did not realize they had 23 wide open 3’s. That is kind of amazing for us, we just need to knock them down. We always say that this and that random dude smoked us, but it is kind of the same thing how they get a “wide open” look and just nail it.
If we just hit a few more it would be a totally different game, so again just gotta hit those shots.
These losses sting but are better than what we’ve seen in the past. I still like the fact that we still could have won while contributiing subpar performances. If Yabu, Clarkson and Shamet hit just 1 of their 3’s each, we won.
Celtics said the same thing all the way to Cancun
Good process bad results which will happen
The Celtics lost like 20 games a season based on stuff like this happening so if the Knicks do this every time out, they will win far more often then they lose
I will say that I expect better shooting. But Miami forced us out of the corners where Mikal and OG excel and into more above the break looks. KAT usually makes more of them. But OG in particular was taking shots deeper than he should be.
They just gotta get used to having to take 3s. You can tell Brown’s offense has then taking quick pull up 3s and they’re just adjusting to having to make that decision.
The groups they were running with didn’t make any sense. No continuity as Clyde would say. Too many mis matches on D and no one could hit a shot
Every year people put so much meaning into regular season games lol. This is the time to experiment and see what works. This team has enough talent to experiment their way into the playoffs by which time they will have refined their schemes and strategies to win convincingly.
My 2c. I think the shooting % will improve but would also like to see us take more shots at the rim as well.
The problem with shooting 45+ threes is the variance. We will have games where we totally wash the opposing team out but also these types of frustrations as well.
It will be important to get Mitch back so we can have some more physicality as well.
If the FBI waited another couple weeks we’d of got the W 😉
That’s what Boston fans/staff and players said in round 2.
They played like shit and only lost by 7 although they are without Herro
Knicks aren’t shooting well at all but their defense and pace keeps them in games.
Once Browns figures out the second unit and gives Hukporti the minutes he deserves and incorporates him more in the offense, the Knicks will go on a roll.
I will say it’s tough watching the shots not go in NOW, but with the hopes of them eventually sinking them more often keeps me sane also the Defense has been superb IMO.
I dont trust their “wide open shots” metric. They were saying the same thing about the Celtics last year and we must have been watching different games
