  1. I really like Bruner’s tiktoks. They are about the only source of football competency on that app.

  2. Yeah, I knew since yesterday that people would change their tune a bit once people started going over the tape. A lot of folks got soured by the loss and blamed Caleb since that interception and miss to DJ was one of the last things we saw of him.

  3. Yeah he looked much more accurate throwing from the pocket and out of structure than recent weeks but people are calling it quits 7 games into the season. Good redzone execution makes that game look different. Obviously there are throws and reads he NEEDS to hit but I didn’t think the performance was nearly as discouraging as people were making it.

  4. caleb so far is a mediocre QB, if he was a non zesty white guy he would not be this hated.

people really really really want him to be a bust.

  5. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to be slightly frustrated at this point. Especially with someone like Maye playing as well as he is with much weaker weapons.

There’s stats to reinforce your perspective on his play this year either way. For example, his accuracy is still a major issues. He’s second highest off target throws behind Penix. I just want to see him start really driving the ball down field, consistently hitting tight windows, and throwing with anticipation. We are all hungry for dominating qb play, I think we all just want to see that at some point this season

  6. as always, I tune out anytime someone calls the commanders game Williams “not playing well.”

the raiders game wasn’t bad either but I can kind of get it. calling the commanders game bad is straight to “doesn’t know ball” land

  7. Caleb will be a top 10 QB in this league. Remember peeps, this is his Third OC and his first year in the Ben Johnson offense. Let’s be patient

  8. People were pretty critical of him last week even in a convincing win. This false narrative just gets annoying

  9. Im starting to feel like we found ourselves another Cutleresque guy. In the way that I’d say he is a bit over-hated by other teams fans/media and even our own. A lot of that is to do with being the #1 pick but he’s definitely not the worst out there and probably better than basically all of our QBs save for Jay himself and Luckman

But the haters are also probably right to an extent as well. Because I’m starting to feel like he’s not actually going to ever be a top tier QB. That’s basically what Cutler was. Better than what we always had but really always a Mid tier NFL QB. Not saying we should dump him immediately or that you can’t win with him. Obviously our only Super Bowl was won with a mediocre at best QB in McMahon and we almost won the Super Bowl later with an even worse QB in Grossman

  10. I wouldnt be worried about his ability to throw his football.

His decision making is bad, and his processing is bad, and he made a number of really bonehead plays in that game outside of the interception that this guy didnt show.

How.many times I Caleb going to run out of bounds and take a sack rsther than throwing it away?

How many times is Caleb going to have a brain fart and throw a ball away and get an intentional grounding. Its concerning at this point.

  11. Not every issue gets addressed in the offseason and new issues come up during a season. That’s just the way it goes. They’ll figure it out. I believe in Ben.

  12. I will say something I think is an issue with Caleb that this video touches on is that he still plays like he’s facing NCAA defenses. He’s gotten better when it comes to pass rushes and throws it away instead of taking sacks, thinking he can outrun pro-bowl DLinemen. Now all he needs to do is internalize the fact that he’s facing NFL secondaries instead of a bunch of college guys.

  13. finally a reasonable take instead of knee-jerk reaction.

btw CHI is 4-3, that is still winning

  14. Has this guy never read reddit before? People weren’t that positive on Caleb the last 2 wins there were lots of concern that he didn’t seem to be playing well. But people will say anything to get clicks these days.

  15. This guy says people weren’t critical of Caleb’s play in the recent wins? They were.

  16. The problem isn’t Caleb. Sure he could play better and I’d even like to see him play/be better. The problem is our defense can’t stop a drive to save its life.

With 7 games under our belt we’re currently forcing a punt on 24% of all of our opponents drives. If you subtract week 1, where allowing 3 TDs in the 4th quarter definitely helped lose the game, we’re at 17.5% on forcing punts. The league average is generally 35-40%.

The reason we won the games we did win is because the 11 turnovers acted just like a punt in ending the opponents drive. In those 4 games, counting turnovers as punts, the defense is at 40.5% chance of stopping a drive.

Caleb is not likely to be getting selected to the pro bowl any time soon. His level of play so far though is definitely on the slightly higher side of average at worst. What people need to be screaming for is some work on improving and or reinforcing the defense. It’s such a glaring problem that needs to be fixed before anyone starts dreaming of playoff possibilities.

  17. Red zones on Ben. But he’ll fix it. It’ll be a lot of bootleg or tosses on the goal line I’m sure and also Caleb keepers on those bootlegs to run it in.

  18. I think the odds of Caleb being a generational talent are low. That being said there’s no reason he can’t become a great QB with some more experience with Ben Johnson. My expectations have cooled off since the off season but I am confident he can win us a superbowl in his career provided a strong supporting cast. However I, like many Bears fans, am very very tired of having what feels like the same conversations year after year about our quarterback, whether thats Mitch, Fields, or Caleb.

  19. I really like the fact based, no nonsense evaluation. I like Caleb but i don’t LOVE him type of view. I agree and I am willing, as a life long Bears fan – to be patient. It’s not like I have an option – but I am excited from what I’ve seen last year and so far this year. We all want Jaden Daniels type production but that is not meant to be…

  20. When I first clicked this it was a short video.

Now it’s a gif with no audio? Dafuq?

  21. “Objectively mediocre performance”

    lol

I objectively need more than that to feel good about his growth.

Enough with the toxic positivity already.

    We deserve better.

Might get better, might not, NONE of us know quite yet.

But taking a rando tiktok calling it objectively mediocre as a flat out positive is bonkers.

  22. Also, Jones and Mayfield were drafted 6 & 7 years ago respectively and are each three+ teams into their careers before putting it together.

This is not the trajectory we want to hang our hats on re: Caleb
