CONDENSED GAME: Boston Bruins vs. Ottawa Senators – 10/27/2025
Live from the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa, Ontario. Welcome to Boston Bruins hockey on Nessen. Tonight, the Bruins hit the road for a clash in the Canadian capital, taking on the Ottawa Senators in an Atlantic Division tilt. Hello again everybody. Along with Andy Brickley, I’m Jud Serat. Thanks for joining us. Brick, this morning the head coach Marco Sturm said that he feels like his team is getting more comfortable with its new defensive system. That said, are we there yet? He said no, but we certainly saw some encouraging signs on Saturday afternoon in a muchneeded win over the Colorado Avalanche. Can the Bruins get a little bit of traction tonight in a really important Atlantic Division game against the Senators? Yeah, simply put, it was an important win over Colorado because a you stop a six-game losing streak and it gives you an opportunity to start a winning streak. How about two in a row and do it against the division rival tonight? Saturday afternoon, the Bruins played their 10th game. So, we take a look at a 10-ame segment. The Bruins finished four and six, but they’ve got some work to do here in the last month of October to keep pace. Yeah, they got three games till the end of October. An opportunity to get to 500. And given the fact that you did have that six-game losing streak, that would be acceptable to get to that level. All right, let’s take a look inside the numbers. The eight points, they’ve left too many points on the table. Judge games that were winnable that they let get away. That’s not good enough if they want to be a playoff team. Goals scored, goals allowed. It’s just a minus3 differential despite the four and six record. They got the sixth best offense in terms of goals forward. Where are the problems? In the defensive zone and in center ice. Too loose. They need to shore up that part of their game. Here’s Carali. He’ll work his way north with the Bruins changing on the back end. Looking for the first shot on net for the Bruins in the first three minutes. Held in by Geeky. Fires. He scores. That stick stays hot. He’s got goals in each of his last four. Bruins won Senators nothing. Just some real smart hockey right here. And it starts with Shan Carali in the neutral zone. He gets to this puck on the pass door. He doesn’t panic with it. The Ottawa Centenners want to give him some room. So he gains the blue line and then he tries to put it in an area now where maybe you have a 50/50 about getting it back. Well, you don’t. Ottawa gets the puff. But what is Mark Castle doing? He’s making a beline to make body contact. break there and it forces a play that should be handled by Ottawa. They should get out of their own zone but just amount just enough amount of pressure allows Kiki to come through the neutral zone make the steal and what a bullet side glove side judge just a rocket inside that post short for another 30 seconds here early in the season Dylan Cousins leading the team with three on the power play that’s tied for fourth in the league. Cousins with a puck. Not enough by Callahan. Sanderson left to the cage. Swaming the stick save. They score. That rebound scooped up over the far post and Bathson ties the game at one. Took him a few games to get his first of the year, but uh he’s starting to feel it now. So, let’s try to get aggressive along the wall here and try to come up with puck possession in order to get one more clear to kill the rest of this penalty. And when they do, numbers kind of favor Ottawa. They transfer the puck to the other side of the ice. They attack from the nod. They get a pretty good shot away. And because they have numbers on the attack right here, shot by Greg. The rebound goes right to Bath because they had numbers on that side of the ice. Able to tuck it in short side. Tie a hockey game at one. [Applause] up ice to the red line. The Bruins slowed that. Then it’s dumped in. Ottawa’s going to change for 13. Harbinson settles it. Back of the net. Sedor. He’s taking his time back of the net. 3 seconds left and that’s going to do it for the opening 20 minutes here at the Canadian Tire Center. So, the Bruins open the scoring. Morgan Geeki with the first and the Bruins had to kill off a couple of penalties, one a piece at the end of one. Yeah, the second PK was really big to keep the score where it needed to be. It looked like they would have survived the first penalty kill as well. Late goal by Bath to tie the hockey game. Love the fact that the Bruins scored first. A decent opening 20 for Boston coming off the important win against Colorado. Now it’s all about sustainability. Amio set it in. cut off Ottawa changing. Geeky, did he get a piece of it? Yep. Carolina in that here tonight. Only his second start of the season. He put up good numbers last year, whether it was here in the NHL or in Belleville. Defined they score. How about that tip out in front? A good one by Clone Cheru. And the Senators have moved in front. Well, that first blush, you say you got to eliminate sticks here. I mean, it’s a well executed play through the neutral zone. Starts back in the defensive though. Sanderson carries it up the wall. Makes a good play to the middle. I mean, Ottawa doesn’t really have numbers. This is a threeon three. It’s just a cross ice pass. It looks like it’s off the stick of Giru. I know he skates there too but it looked like the stick in order to get that kind of elevation you think it’s blade stick blade that is now Pinto touch in front of the save the rebound stop there oh great opportunity by Giru key save key time of the Bruins down one with nine minutes left here in the second has to exit his stick shattered Bustedino three on two across the line shoots blocker inside and spun into the slot. Cleven chased by Carali up and out to the red line. It’s tapped in. Yeah, that threeon two for Boss disappeared because Lynholm had to get off the ice. He was the third guy. Now Shiobad has it picked off by he’ll wheel in drop. Carelli second attempt. Marilyn and stops it and holds it. Bruins with a couple of looks on Levy Marilyn here on these last few shifts, but the Senators remain on top. All right, thought about challenging now cuts back. Eller goes wide. It’s not enough. Pushed off the puck by Mackoy. shot in front shoots. He scores. The Senators create a turnover down low and Marco Stern’s team down three to one. Another negative sequence that goes against the Bruins. Nice play in the neutral zone. David Pazak coming late able to throw that puck in an area where he get shot away. doesn’t have a lot on it or what he normally gets on it. And then the Burrows just manage the puck in their own zone. You got four white jerseys in and around that puck. Bath gets open right around the hash mark. The puck just finds him with the fourth check by the Senators. He’s all by himself and he just rips one blocker side low. Here’s Mitten. He’ll flip it to the corner 25. Bruins change and it’s deflected in. Waiting for it to swing deep to Geeki and it goes. 10 seconds. Carolina plays it back. Geeky trying to steal it. 5 seconds left in the period. Astronaut trying to play off the pile. Senators trying to keep that puck in the corner. And that’s going to do it. [Applause] Senator separating with two goals in that second period. And Rick, they’re going to take a 3-1 lead over the Bruins into the intermission. Yeah, right now it’s a combination, Jud, of still trying to sort things out in and around their net with puck management, who’s got who, and they’re not generating enough high danger chances when it looks like there’s an opportunity to do so, they haven’t been able to execute. And I have to realize that a lot of these players, they’ve never played a different system. I have to be patient. And when you run into a losing streak, it becomes even harder. Yeah, it’s frustrating. You know, there’s such drag in the decision making in the defensive zone. When to go, when not to go, when to switch, when not to switch, and then to leave in the front of the net, the most dangerous areas of the offensive zone, turnovers and scoring chances. That’s not a good combination. And the mistakes are untimely like this one. Boston number 91. 2 minutes for interference. [Music] It comes 8 seconds into the third. Yeah, Zidor’s just pivoting out by the blue line. He’s trying to force the play. Stick gets in the midsection a little bit. [Music] Senators were able to tie the game on the power play in the first period. Drake Bathson, that was the first of two for him. And here’s Sanderson. Now it’s drilled by Stoutsley. Scores. It took only 5 seconds for Stler to make it 4-1. [Applause] Just a basic face off win in the offensive zone with a man advantage. Bruins all pile up in the middle. Try to take the shot away. Stusla just kind of arcs out high. And now he’s on a tackle. When he gets the P, he drags it in right by the tops of the or top of the dot. Drag snap just zips it. High glove. Beautiful shot. Talented kid. And the puck just skips by Zenorov. In fact, Stitz went for a spill. And the Bruins are going to go short-handed. [Music] [Applause] I thought they were looking for Zaka on this play for the trip. Boston minor penalty. Two minutes for Trippy. Does he have a number? Well, the puck’s up for grabs right here. I’m not sure where the trip was there, Jud. Did you see it? I saw students go down. I did not. Makamoy’s waiting by the bench. The referee did not announce a number. Yeah, Makavoy was there. Little bit of Zaka there. [Music] So, the Bruins number one defenseman’s going to grab a seat. [Applause] Otto’s already scored twice in the power play. As Brick alluded to earlier, they had three against Washington in their last game. Here’s Cousins. Gets a return feet. Set up top. Sanderson shoots. They score. That tipped in the slot. slam and screened. It trickles in and the Senators with their third power play goal of the night have opened up a 5-1 lead. [Applause] Pretty basic but high percentage plays by the Ottawa power play. Shots with purpose. Good little redirect in that bumper position in the high slot. Stud’s there gets a nice little piece of that shot. It changes direction. Goes from the middle of the net down to the far side and down. That’s what that shot from the point is intended to be a redirect. It’s not a double screen. It’s not a second chance opportunity. Then the deflection and it’s clubbed out to center ice by Yoki Haru. Got to change quick. Here’s Stolen the save. Rebound hopping around. They score. Nick Cousins makes it 6-1 in that loss to Anaheim 75 when they got it back to 55 in the third period. The building was rocking and then they go on to lose that hockey game with mistakes like they’re making again here tonight. The word embarrassment came up and that’s where this is headed right now. It’s third period. I know it’s 3-1 entering the third period, but you still like you got a chance. You got a chance. But it hasn’t been that way in this third period at all. End of one 3-1 in favor of the Senators at the end of two. [Music] They score. Drilled from long range by Fabian Zetterland. His first of the season. 71. Everybody getting in on the act now. I mean, this is a power play. You got your three power play out there. It seems like so well play coming in over the blue line and they set up for the one-time. Let’s talk to the circles. Looked like got a good look at it. Couldn’t tell. There was some traffic in front, but it looked like by the time the one-time was on its way, he would be able to track it, but it beats a blocker side. Bit of a moving screen. Hard to tell when Sway picked it up. Maybe it curved a little bit. 3-1 in favor of the Senators at the end of two. [Music] They score. Drilled from long range by Fabian Zetterland. His first of the season. 71. Well, everybody getting in on the act now. I mean, this is a power play and you got your three power play out there, it seems like. So that’s fut play coming in over the blue line and they set up for the one timer. Let’s talk to the circle. Looked like got a good look at it. Couldn’t tell. There was some traffic in front but it looked like by the time the one timer was on its way he would be able to track it but it beats a blocker side. Bit of a moving screen. Hard to tell when Swayman picked it up. Maybe a curve a little bit. Little twist over the line hands to M. Harbertson shoots. He scores. He pounds one in from the slot. And it’s 72 Senators. Overton able to tee one up in a high slot with a little bit of traffic. Nice play by Fraser Mitten again. Hang on to this puff. Good vision. Finds the goal scorer. Harbertson handles that good pass and quickly gets in a shooting position. He drills it club side. He’s got goals in backto-back games. [Music] Little conference for the officials out at center ice. [Music] You got a couple linesmen putting the headsets on down there. Judge, play review of offside play. After review, the play was deemed to be a good goal. Ottawa will be charged with a minor penalty. So Arbitson with a second. Well, that’s why we said it has to be conclusive. Has to be clear evidence that the call needs to be overturned. They want to support the referees and the lines are going to make the call. There’s no penalty on the play. Yeah, because there was no challenge. Weak Callahan ripped it in. Jano shot it wide. Horn is going to sound and this game has gone final. So Ottawa takes a very important division tilt against the Bruins. They win it seven to two. And the Bruins waxed the night. Third period got ugly. got away from him. Couple of power play goals. They just didn’t have the necessary compete in the third period to keep us a hockey game. But it was the two goals in the second I think that was most bothersome

Don't see a lot of fight in Swayman early this season. Just me?
Bruins are becoming unwatchable.
🤨 Time to send Swayman back to the AHL on waivers. Hopefully we could get out of that horrible contract. Should be able to get a good Goalie for $9M/yr!
i know the roster sucks; but is marco sturm the NHL equivalent of Jerod Mayo?
They suck. Not even sure if they know what hockey is. Let guys cross the blue line free, skate right to the net. Swayman got his contract and retired?
They showed the 7th goal twice
Fire Neely now.
7 goals on 21 shots is just embarrassing
So whats the excuse this time for Swaymen? is there a $6.00 goalie out there because our 6 million dollar one SUCKS ASS! Wait did Ottawa not get a penalty? and everything the Bruins did was a penalty.
FUCH THE NHL they are nothing but a bunch of thieves, have taken all the fun out of being a fan.
