I remember being piss drunk at my buddies house and telling him Berggren was gonna be a dark horse once his back healed
Silencing trade talks or just increasing his value??
The problem with Bergy was clear, offensive player in an offensively inept bottom 6. The eye test liked him last season.
I’ll believe it when I see it. Burgers isn’t going to crack the top six in this lineup, ever, with the kids who are going to jump him, hell they’ve already started. He still hasn’t really learned how to backcheck or play any kind of good defense either. If his value is at an all time high we might as well get what we can out of him and move on with our lives. We have to many wingers for to few slots to hang onto Berggren. 15, 20 goal scorers with mediocre defense aren’t exactly hard to find in this leauge
E: I checked because I was bored and can’t sleep. there were 89 players who had between 15 and twenty goals last season. 6 of whom played D, so 83 forwards. Grand scheme of about a thousand players who play in the NHL 1 of 83 isn’t a horrible percentile to be in. Honing in a little and discounting AHL plugs and goalies who don’t score goals 1 of 83 is just valuable enough to give a diagonal trade some weight while not really being upsetting enough to lose. I really gotta impress that not even Berggren met my criteria for this search last season with 12, I’m assuming he can hit his rookie number of 15 goals at some point again in his career which isn’t a guarantee. Best of luck Jonatan, i hope you get top six minutes on some struggling team that needs some help.
E2: if the search is pulled from 15-20 goals and stretched into 12-20, Berggrens’s worst full season and what i”m presume his top end is, we go from 89 to 129 players. That’s well beyond replaceable for the other tools he brings to the table.
