Brad Treliving | Practice | October 27, 2025
So, just quickly, um, I just want to give everybody an update with Joe, right, now that he’s back. Um, so, number one, it’s great to have him back. Um, I’m not going to get into any of the the issues with his leave. I’m going to leave that to Joe at a certain time. Um, and he’ll speak with you. Uh, it won’t be today. We’re going to just let him get his feet under him and when he’s comfortable to to take that step, um, certainly he will. Um really the plan if everybody’s looking for that is really is just to get him up and going. You know, he’s been off the ice. I should say he skated some some when he was when he was on his leave. Um but this is just getting back in the team setting, right? So it’s the plan is is really to to watch and adjust on a daily basis here. So he joins the team. He skated Saturday, skating today. So, we’re we’re going to just sort of take it day by day um and integrate him in. Um and a lot of it’s just going to be based upon how he’s feeling, right? Physically, he’s he’s missed camp. Um but he has been on the ice the last couple of weeks um uh over the sort of on a every other day basis. Um so, he’s had some time on the ice. Um it’s probably not unreasonable to to expect once we get to that stage of him going and playing some um conditioning games with the Marlies. Um but it’s really just a we’re going to we’re going to take our lead from Joe on how he’s feeling on a daily basis and and sort of getting up to speed. Um but he’s it’s it’s great to have him back. The the group’s excited to have him back. Um he’s doing well and it’s a it’s it’s a real positive sign that he’s rejoined the group. What is the biggest challenge you think Brad? It’s kind of a unique circumstance for him coming in. What What will be the biggest challenge getting back up to speed for him? Yeah, just that Mark is just just, you know, you miss a camp. It’s just it’s getting those reps, right? Getting getting game reps. Now Joe’s keeps himself in great shape. Um so I I don’t it’s it’s a little bit unusual but not unprecedented. Like time players have gone through injuries, they’ve gone through different situations where they miss time. Like I said, he’s his conditioning levels and is is fabulous. Um he’s been on the ice. Now it’s just a matter of getting getting reps and there’s a difference of being on the ice and you progress into a practice where you’ve got traffic and bodies around and then the next step is obviously getting into game action. So um I don’t think it’ll be too too long. Um but it’ll be a process here that you know now that we’re underway. Um you guys have leaned heavily on Anthony. Do you think getting back to a a more of a tandem situation will help Anthony? Yeah, I mean at at certain point, but it’s it’s like I said, we’re just going to kind of go day by day. Um I don’t have a a a date circle. I I shouldn’t say that. I do have a date circle, but we’ll have to see what it is. Um and uh so you have plans and then you’ll alter them based upon how things are going. But certainly Joe’s a big part of our team and uh and it’ll be good to have him back when he’s when he’s back and playing, but we’re not going to rush it. It’s going to it’ll it’ll happen when it’s when it’s when he’s ready to go. He’s done a pretty good job here. What date is he Sorry. What date is he uh in terms of the LTI? Yeah, he I I believe it’s November 1st, but that he he won’t be ready. he’ll be ready like that won’t be a u an issue like he’s not going to be ready and and have to sit out um based upon his LTI uh situation. So again, we’ll see. Sounds like the first time you’ve worked with something like this in Toronto, I guess. What have you learned about how to support a player through something like this? Well, I’ve been through this before uh with over your career. You you deal with lots of issues and and I don’t think anything ever changes, Josh. like it’s just like he’s got a great support system here with his teammates. Obviously the organization’s 100% behind him and that’s that’s what you do for all your players, right? Um we deal with lots of issues, right? And and not unlike anybody else that deals with issues, right? So these guys are are they they deal with the same things we all deal with, right? Um it gets magnified because of the line of work they’re in. There’s there’s more coverage of it. So you you make sure you’ve got the resources, you’ve got the personnel, and you’ve got um number one, the players best and the and the person’s best interest in mind. And that’s what um I’m proud of how the organization um has supported Joe and and we will for every player. Was it just a matter of him coming and saying, “I’m ready.” Yeah. Yeah. There’s a process to go through and and uh he was eager to get back. I’m excited to get back and uh and he’s back. A pretty good job for you guys. Brad, is there any consideration to maintaining three goalies once Joe is up and running? Yeah, we’re going we’re we’ll worry about that when we get there. Right. Right now, from Joe’s standpoint, it’s sort of parallel pass. We’re we’re we’re focused on getting him up and going. Um, and then the team aspect is Kaden’s come in and done a really good job. As I said, when we got Kaden in here, we liked him as a goalender, got Anthony, and and let’s not forget about Dennis has had a good camp for us. He’s playing. So, we we like the depth that we have. Um, but we’ll cross those bridges when we get there. Joe, uh, coming back. Obviously, you’re giving him a space. Like, what do you like about what you’re hearing from him and what he’s like since he’s been back the last couple days here? Yeah, he’s just been Joe, right? Like he’s you guys have spent lots of time around him. He’s he’s an upbeat guy. He’s a um, you know, he’s just he’s such a caring person, right? And, uh, I think it was I think it’s it was great for the guys to see him. He’s a really popular teammate, right? like he’s really close with with this group and uh so so it was as as good as it was for Joe to have the guys, it was good for the guys to have Joe back. So it was uh yeah, it’s been a good couple of days and he’s eager to get going. On a slightly different topic, number 91’s on the precipice of a pretty big one. But what have you learned about John uh in the time you’ve gotten to know him here? Well, you know, everything that’s been said about him, just his preparation, um it’s like a fine wine, right? he just he gets better with age and and but it’s not it’s not by accident. It’s not, you know, the work he puts in um the preparation he puts in is is second to none that any athlete I’ve been around. And so when you’re prepared like that, results come and and his results are are byproduct byproduct of having some god-given ability, but the sweat equity that he puts in the preparation and just the time that he dedicates to his craft shows in the results. Is there a timeline becoming clear for Tann? Uh yeah, we’re we’ll see this week. Um that’s probably uh Tanny won’t play tomorrow. Um he’s not eligible to come off till when do we play after Wednesday? Saturday. Um so that’s that’s a we’ll just see. You know, they’re they’re getting closer. Um Scott obviously has missed more time. He’s in that stage now of really starting to ramp up and and hopefully be joining the group here before too long. Um so hopefully sooner rather than later.

Time to trade Joey. Regardless of the reason, he's frequently unavailable. Move on.
No trade Tree is running this team to the roots.
