Pre-Game | Ryan Huska – 24.10.25
Coach, you obviously saw these guys four days ago. Uh, you know, what are what are some of the takeaways that you take from the meeting back in Calgary that that you kind of look to in your preparation for tonight? Um, I think the game in Calgary, we did a good job of not um beating ourselves. So, we like the way we played five on five that night. There’s a lot of good things that we took from that game. Um, too many penalties um was something that we um have and will continue to try to address with our players and and not put ourselves in a position where we have to lose some momentum because we have to go and kill a penalty. When you look at, you know, the type of style of play that’s become a staple for this team, that hard-hinge, aggressive style of game, how do you straddle the line between playing hard, checking hard, and and avoiding the types of hooks, trips, and and penalties that, you know, can lead to that loss of momentum? Um, I well, what you’re alluding to me, um, that’s totally 100% within a player’s control. So, what you do with your stick is all within your control. what you do with your free hand is all within your control. So, there’s a lot of talk in our room about you check with your feet. You don’t even put yourself in those situations. So, um there is no real line to walk when it comes to that stuff with us. when you uh what are you seeing right now from the power play and just um you know when you do get some of those opportunities um you know maybe trying to as you’ve talked about kind of win some of those netfront battles in front um up until our our last game like it’s it’s generating some good chances um on the power play not consistent enough and I I think the pace of the puck that’s being moved around on the power play is a bit of a contributing factor because when it is quick those are typically the times where um there is a great opportunity for us to capitalize on. So, um, that’s it for me. I mean, they have their opportunity to be difference makers in a game. Uh, we need them to do that without a doubt for our team right now. We need them to step up and and contribute for us, but it all comes down to the pace of play. What’s the latest with NASM Cry? Um, Naz is good. Yeah, totally good. Ryan, when your team struggles to put the puck in the net, Ryan, um, I’m curious about it’s awkward still from a coaching staff perspective. Um, is it a time to be delicate or is it a time to push harder when the puck isn’t going and your skilled guys aren’t getting rewarded? What’s the mindset from you guys to the players? Listen, I don’t know if it’s push harder, but it is um make sure you reinforce the the qualities and characteristics that we look for out of our players in in those situations that if you stay with process and and do things the right way, the chances will continue to come and they’re going to go in. Um, that’s it for us. So we don’t let them off the hook for um anything in that category. We expect more out of a lot of players, but it isn’t putting more pressure on them as you focus on doing the things the right way and eventually that stuff will pay off. Your last game against the Jets looked an awful lot like last night’s game against Seattle. If your team is on, will it look like that again tonight? Um for us, similar five on five. We have to be a team that doesn’t give up a lot of room on the ice. So um we are a check first team. There’s no doubt about that. And I think when everybody’s on the same page there, uh, we’re at our very best.

Scoring starts in the defensive zone first. Some of the guys need to be tougher in the corners and plugging up the middle. We let teams enter the zone too easily.
They're on the right track with shots in the last game… lowest shooting percentage in the league = dead last in the league
The forwards just need to stop being cowards and get to the slot
We tanking good baby!!!
Stop being obsessed with vets. Play some youth more than you have.
