Post-Game Press Conference: J.B. Bickerstaff | Pistons vs Cavs | 10.27.2025

start a theme this season four games tonight the first quarter with them 110 runs just what happened from there that uh I mean again give them credit they’re a good team uh they’re a good defensive team um we just had a rough night tonight um you know we turned the ball over 26 times uh you know it’s hard to run your offense when you’re turning the basketball over um but it’s one night we’ll be question. Coach, um, can you just speak on some of the struggles that K Cunningham had tonight? Uh, again, they’ve got a ton of size. Uh, and they do a great job of shrinking the floor, uh, and make you play in crowded spaces. Um, and I’ve got to do a better job of helping him in those situations, creating more space for him in those situations. Um, but again, you know, we’re early in the season. We’ll continue to build from it. JB, I know tonight is a little bit of an anomaly, but it seems like for the first four games, the shot quality hasn’t been as great, the looks, the spacing. Is that something? Do you see it the same way? Is that something? How do you see the shots that you’ve been getting as a whole offensive? Uh, I mean, I’m not opposed to the shots that we’re getting. Um, you know, I think we’re trying for the most part, uh, to do the things we asked, but we’re still learning. Um, you know, we’re learning each other. You know, it is a bit of a different group out there that’s playing together. Um, you know, we’re learning the triggers, how we create rotations, put, you know, advantage situations and all those things. So, uh, it’ll smooth out. It’s been choppy at times for sure. Uh, you’re not seeing that wrong. Um, but again, just more time together, more reps at it. Um, but this is thing, you know, like we always try to do is we’re trying to make this, you know, our climb. Um, so we’ve got a starting point that we’re at right now. Um, and then we’ll continue to figure it out and get better. Hi. Um, Bobby Claimsman came on came on for the first time this season. Not that many minutes, but he got a plus 12. What do you make of what he showed you tonight? I mean, it’s it’s more than a night to be honest with you. Uh, I thought he’s had a really good preseason and training camp also. Um, but, you know, he’s a guy that brings activity. He’s got a high IQ. He’s versatile on both ends of the floor. Uh, he’s an elite offensive rebounder and has the ability to make shots, too. So, uh, it’s going to be time and opportunity for him. Uh but we feel like he’s a really good basketball player uh when he gets his opportunities. JB, I think it was about 11 minutes in that uh in that first half in game time without uh field goal made for the Pistons. Um what’s kind of your message to the team whenever you have those uh when you’re hitting those, you know, kind of uh slugs and how do you kind of get them out of that without forcing any offense? I mean, I think, you know, you got to stay with, you know, the details of what your system is and being able to fight their pressure with your offensive pressure. Uh, and yeah, I thought there were times where we just got bogged down and stop moving. Uh, and if you don’t move and create separation versus that team with their size and length, uh, it’s going to be very difficult to score. Um, so again, opportunity for us to learn, um, and get better for it. I was just going to ask you about that just kind of like the learning piece of it. I mean, feels like a little bit of the slow starts and playing from behind has plagued you guys a little bit in a couple of these games. How much is that something that you can just hammer home? this is how we need to play the full 48. Yeah, I mean it’s a conversation that we’ve continued to have um and it was a conversation that we had um you know all the way in training camp, but for us it comes down to the reps at it. Um you know, and again, you know, with this group, you know, pre preseason and training camp, we had some guys in and out and all those things. Uh so we’re still working through some of those. Uh but we’re four games in. Uh you know, the wins that we got, you know, I believe were identity wins. um you know because we just played to our standard uh what Detroit Pistons basketball is and now we’ve got to clean some things up. So as long as we continue to play to our identity uh we’ll clean the execution piece up and we’ll get better as the year goes on. Thank y’all. Let’s speak.

  1. I didn't think they would win tonight anyway after beating the Celtics the other day. Too much energy. The league should stop back to back games. There is no reason to play back to back games.

  2. Getting rid of Tim Hardaway jr was absolute insanity. Spot up shooter who we NEED next to Cade. I can’t wrap my head around how stupid that move was. Especially with the Beasley situation, we needed him first and foremost for his spacing/shooting, and his veteran locker room presence. Langdon killed a really good thing we had going. Getting rid of Schroeder is almost just as stupid. His reason to get rid of him was because it was stopping the development of our young guys. Can our young guys hit clutch shots in playoffs and calm the players down like he does? His IQ was priceless. Seriously disappointing and I bet Cade is really frustrated about it too

  3. Bro stop overreacting this is ONE game. Cavs are a much much better team than us, one of the 2 best teams in the league imo, they at their peak, we are just starting to find our groove again after last year. We just have to keep level-headed and get better, yes it was an ugly loss, but thats what great teams do to you, no mercy. Its one game, stop overreacting.
