JUST IN! Marcus Jones & New England Patriots Agree To A 3-Year Contract Extension

[Music] Ladies and gentlemen, the news that we’ve all been waiting for since about halfway through the start of this season. Marcus Jones is getting the bag. Him and the New England Patriots have agreed on terms to a three-year contract extension. He’s staying right here. Welcome into Patriots Today by Chat Sports. I am your host Brent Alper and let’s freaking go people. Let’s go. This was welld deserved by Marcus Jones. He has earned this contract and we’ve been talking about it on the channel for weeks weeks at a time. I said he was going to be a breakout candidate back in the offseason. I made a video yesterday talking about extend him as soon as possible. I wanted him on the books. I wanted him to stay a New England Patriot for the next three years and thankfully he is exc sign signing the extension and this is why you subscribe to the channel. Even about a week ago I made a video about extending Marcus Jones. So if you want to get ahead of all the news and rumors of the Patriots, you want to stay up todate that’s why you subscribe to the channel. Join almost 35,000. We’re on our way to 35,000. Let’s get to that number before our watch party on Sunday. Hit that sub button right now. Comes from rap sheet. I was making a whole different video for you guys about the uh bone head comments that Cam Newton made about Drake May, but this this takes precedent. Of course, Patriots have agreed to terms with standout quarterback and all pro punt return to Marcus Jones per meo. Jones getting a new three-year deal, a big- time reward for the hometown star. And he has been absolutely incredible this season. I mean, if you look at some of the stats, and I’m not even talking about his actual stats, he’s 5 foot8, 188 pounds. Just talking about some of the plays that he’s made. Going back to the Saints game against Chris Ave where he where catches the ball, he rips it right out of his hands, forces a fourth down or even last week, Isaiah Bond is wide open and he gets back to the ball, pushes him out of bounds, making sure he does not catch that first down that puts them in the red zone, if not make it even a first and goal. It is so extremely deserved for Marcus Jones to get this contract. We haven’t gotten the full contract details on how much money he is, but he is on the books until 2028. And this is just perfect for the New England Patriots. Here’s the statistics if we want to get into just how good he has been. 36 tackles, which is crazy as a 5’8 nickel quarterback. Two interceptions, nine pass breaks. And those two interceptions, one comes from Josh Allen where he picks the ball over the middle of the field. Nine pass breakups. That is fourth in the NFL. And obviously the most on the Patriots, six tackles for loss. So if they throw the ball behind the back field, he is not having they’re not breaking any tackles off of him. He’s making that open field tackle. He has been the perfect nickel quarterback. And I mentioned it at one point that he could almost he’s not as important as Christian Gonzalez. Obviously Gonzo, I think, is truly the best quarterback in football, but he’s been a lockdown corner for the Patriots. He has been one of the key players on this defense. And if you don’t believe me, well, some of the stats, this comes from Taylor Kyles, which I found on his Twitter, which is he’s an awesome follow. Unfortunately, he’s not allowed to post all 22 highlights anymore. Thanks, FL. But two interceptions, tied for the third most at his position. Six forced incompletions, 10 stops, and the missed tackle percentage. I talked about how he is great in the open field. 4% 4.0 missed tackle percentage. 4% tied for the seventh lowest among qualified quarterbacks. He’s awesome. He’s been a great player. He deserves this contract more than anyone on the team. And I didn’t even mention about how good he is on special teams. He is a dual threat type of athlete. I mean, triple threat if we want to talk about how good he is on offense. The Patriots just know how good he is on defense. They don’t want to risk putting him on offense. But on the punt returns, he’s the best punt returner in football. The return yards, two 216. That’s third most in the NFL. Yards per return. That’s the most at 21.6. He has returned a kick or punt return. He did that against the Panthers. He should have had another one. He should have had another punt return in that game, which is 87 tied for the third longest. But if you notice, his return yards have gone down to third most. It should be the most. But they’re not kicking to him anymore. They’re not punting to him. If they have if they see the opportunity for Marcus Jones to be able to return a punt, they punt it out of bounds. They just don’t punt to him. And this comes, this was on September 28th in one of the games. It was his two punt returns where he almost had two return for a touchdown. Marcus Jones 167 punt returned yards are the most by a Patriots player in franchise history in one game. Mike Hayes old record of 156 on November 7th, 1976. Marcus Jones is a special special player. And when you look at the Patriots depth chart right now, Christian Gonzalez is looking like his allp pro self. Carlton Davis is solid. He has a little bit of issues, but he’s still solid. Marcus Jones, Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis, and Marcus Jones are all locked up for the next two seasons. So, that is going to be your secondary. And if you go up against this team, I would be scared. And I think last week we saw the Browns scared. I think the week before that we saw the Titans scared. And I think this upcoming week against the Falcons, whoever plays, whether it’s Michael Penn or Kirk Cousins, they’re going to be scared to throw on any of these guys. The remaining free agents, you have a lot of players locked up going into the 2026 season, going into the 2027 season. But going into free agency next March, these are the six guys I’d love to see K. Leavon Chaissson resign that contract. Kyus Tonga, maybe not Austin Hooper, Jack Gibbons. You need to lock up. Jaylen Hawkins and Daren Low. See you, brother. See you, brother. But only six guys, the most of the team is going to be returning for this next upcoming season. So it just shows that the future is bright in New England. How good this defense is, how good this offense is, how good the special teams is, no one is going anywhere. And this future is bright. I think the Patriots can really build something here. And thankfully, they lock down Marcus Jones because he would have gotten paid somewhere else and somebody would have gotten a hell of a player. Let’s show some love to Marcus Jones. Go down in the comments section right now, spam your two fives because I think he’s just getting better and better and better and it was the breakout year and finally he gets to get paid. Coming up, I’m going to talk about on the offensive end how you can take away all those running back trade rumors and just throw them away. And I’ll tell you guys why in just a second. But I got to tell you about our sponsor of today’s show, and that is Prize Picks. The hard-hitting football action is even better with prize picks. The weather might be changing. It might be getting colder outside, but the feeling of being right never gets old. So keep the season rolling on prize picks by getting $50 instantly in lots when you play your first $5. Prize pick is simple to play. Just pick more or less on two to six player stat projections. If you get your picks right, you could cash in. and prize picks embedded the flex play which means you can still cash out if your lineups aren’t perfect. You can double your money even if your picks don’t hit. Prize picks is the best way to win money this football season. I made a lineup and it involves basketball because you know on prize picks you can make a lineup on any sport. Hockey, basketball, motorsports, it does not matter. I got Carl Anthony Towns the more on 12 rebounds. They take on the Milwaukee Bucks tonight. And during the game on Sunday versus New England in Atlanta, the Patriots have not allowed a 50-yard rusher yet. Give me the less for Bejan. It ain’t happening. And as long as they keep giving Drake May uh less than uh 230 passing yards, I’m taking the more on that one. You can make a lineup just like that when you download the app today and use code CLS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That’s code cns to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. Prize picks. It’s good to be right. All right, talking about the offense, still shout out to Marcus Jones for getting that extension, but the Patriots have yet to add a running back to the 53man roster. And right now, they only have two on the roster. And it involves just two guys. You only have Trayvon Henderson and Raandre Stevenson. And producer Jod, you don’t have to go to the depth chart. You could just I just said it. We only have two on the roster. It’s Raandre and it’s Tayvon Henderson. You also have Jack Westover as the fullback position. But they’ve done they the Patriots have been doing the same thing each and every week the last three weeks and they’ve been elevating Terrell Jennings to the active roster to play on Sundays and he’s been solid. I’m not going to say that uh he’s been your kind of main back, but that’s what you needed after Antonio Gibson to his ACL. You just needed someone to have that third spot on the roster. And Terrell Jennings has been a great a great addition to this play. But the one thing that you need to make note is I said that he’s been elevated from the practice squad the last three games. The Patriots have not made a signing. They have not made a trade for another running back. But now since he has played three times, the NFL rules say you are only allowed to elevate a player from the practice squad a maximum of three times before you have to be signed to the 53man roster. Well, of course, on Monday, after Mike Frabel does his weekly press conference on Mondays, they asked him about it. They said, “Well, you haven’t you haven’t made a move at running back and Terrell Jennings has reached his quota of uh practice squad elevation. So, what does this mean? Is he going to be signed to the active roster?” And here’s what Mike Frabel had to say. He said, “We all want Terrell here. So, however we have to handle that, I mean, the only other option is to bring him up. He’s been a good addition. He’s been prepared for the opportunity, helped on special teams, had a tackle on kickoff. So those things are really good things. I think he’s a good teammate. And so yeah, I think that’s only probably procedural at this by the end of the week. So if that says anything, that just tells me that yeah, they’re going to sign him. I mean, he didn’t flat out he said we’re going to sign him without signing him. And you can see the stats right there. They’re not eyepopping. 4.7 yards per carry is pretty good. He’s been getting that garbage time over the last couple of weeks. But the main reason why I think he’s going to get elevated is kind of that same exact role that Antonio Gibson had on the on the Patriots was that he was going to be on special teams. Since getting elevated to the active roster and playing on Sundays, he has taken over special teams duties. And the last couple of weeks, they were making Effan Chisum as one of the kick returners. Well, Effan Chisum went back down to being inactive every single week. and they brought Trevon Henderson back on kick returns. But I think that the Patriots, they like putting Terrell Jennings on that special team spot to get tackles. We saw him get a tackle on Sunday and also being able to return kicks. I think he’s earned his spot on this roster. I really do. I don’t think that the Patriots need to go out and make a trade. I like keeping the draft picks. You don’t have to send out a sixth or a seventh round pick to some team just for some average running back to be on the roster. I think Terrell Jennings has done a great job. I think the coaches love him. I think his teammates love him. And I think that he has been great on special teams. So, there’s no need. Just bring him up for the rest of the season. That also opens up a practice squad spot so you can bring in someone else to be on the roster. But what do you guys think? Do you want Terrell Jennings on the active roster? I know you guys paid attention to all the games. I know you see him during garbage time. I know you see him on special teams kind of showing out. So, you tell me. Type AR for active roster if you want him on the on the 53 or type PS if you want to keep him on the practice squad. Go down in the comments section right now. Still extremely excited for both of those guys. I think Terrell Jennings is going to be signed later this week. And shout out to Marcus Jones once again for getting that contract extension and we had it first. So that’s why you subscribe to the channel. That’s going to do it for the latest episode of Patriots Today and as always, let’s go Pats.

  2. 1st round pick next year being the backside corner and holy crap this secondary is disgusting.

Also give this kid a package on offense for a few snaps a game and chuck him a few screens. Just get the ball to him in space and Marcus Jones is good enough to do the rest

  3. Marcus has been a great lockdown CB and a key player on the special teams and I'm so happy we have him for at least 3 more years. Honestly right now he is playing like a potential All-Pro CB. Terrel Jennings is a solid backup running back and I would be glad to have him as a backup. LET'S GO PATS!!!!!!
