“We do not live in our fears”

  1. I hope you know that this chart really doesn’t mean shit OP lol. Stuff like this is so subjective

  2. It was supposed to be my turn to post this chart!

Also, literally none of our losses have been because of kicking instead of going for it.

  3. Why go for it if it doesn’t make sense to? Going for it a certain number of times doesn’t translate to overall success

  4. Was very confused at first because I couldn’t find the Steelers logo anywhere in the graphic

  5. “We trust our dogshit defense to get the job done, even if all evidence suggests they will not get the job done.”

  6. I guess not a single person in this thread understands what analytics are. My goodness gracious Mike T has fallen so behind in the modern day NFL that he’s taken a lot of Steelers fans with him.

  7. People that don’t understand statistics and methodology have no business making these dumbass charts.

Going for it on 4th down where the gain is win probability is 1.5%? Are you fucking kidding me?

Win probability is also a useless stat. We see games swing from 1-2% against to 100% for in the last 3 minutes of football games every week. One injury, one crazy fumble, one blown call can swing that number completely in the other direction and there’s no math that can accurately and reliably predict that.

They need people that actually understand the nuances of football to develop some legitimate analytics.

Having some rich dude that watched Moneyball pay for some math nerds, that have never played football or that only understand it on a superficial level, to sit in a room and crank out meaningless numerical garbage is a total waste of time.

  8. Can anyone explain the go for it when they should metric?

“When going for it increases win probability”???

What is win probability and how is that calculated?

What is the blurb about first quarter?

What’s the x axis supposed to be?

    Anyone?

  9. We went from Coach Cowher to Coach Coward.

*Though I don’t agree with these analytics, I couldn’t resist the pun.

  10. I don’t know if I agree with the premise, but appreciate the trashing of these clowns, still.

  11. The chart is silly BUT it does highlight that Tomlin is coaching the team he wants and not the team he has. We’re the 2024 Bengals lol. The Steelers D shouldn’t be trusted to stop or close out anything. They should be more aggressive because this team ain’t winning with FGs (except against equally trash teams).

  12. You can’t fear it if you don’t do it. That’s how you don’t live in your fears.

Nike’s new slogan: Just Don’t Do It

  13. I do wonder if having Boz tends to make Tomlin more conservative than he’d normally be since he’s so reliable. The Cowboys with Aubrey are tied for second to last, so maybe there’s a correlation there…

  14. People can disagree. But I feel like Tomlin is in his like “end of patriots bellichek” time. Clearly it just isn’t working for him here anymore. And he’s gotta go we are now bottom 10-15 minimum in the league for more than a few categories. And are historically the worst team we ever have been in awhile

  15. Mike is afraid of going for it on 4th, so you see he is not living in his fears.

    Isn’t that how it works?
