Brad Marchand Scores Twice — But Sidney Crosby Does Too as Penguins Beat Panthers
Well, Brad, what was the biggest challenge that allowed the Penguins to stay a few steps ahead tonight? They just seem to capitalize um on on uh their opportunities. I mean, we controlled from you know, after the first period on uh we really controlled that game. Um and you know, it just seemed like every time we pushed they uh you know, they’d make one play, but um you know, when you have the caliber of players that they do, uh you know, some of the best ever play of the game, that that’s what they do. they know how to show up in in those moments and and take advantage opportunities and that’s what they did. But thought we had a really good game. Um you know, especially from the first period on. It almost looked like you were going to get the hat trick there. Just how much responsibility do you feel, especially given the players that are out? Yeah, I think we all do. Um you know, we all feel like we need to step up and and be uh be a little bit better. Obviously, we’re missing a lot of really key guys in the lineup and um you know, it falls on all of us to do a little bit more. Um, you know, sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it doesn’t. Uh, couple goals here for the power play recently since you guys made the switch. What do you liked about the new top unit? We’re moving well. Um, we’re moving the puck fast, we’re recovering. I think that’s the biggest thing. We’re recovering pucks, getting second opportunities. Um, you know, and Sam was so good on that side over there. He, uh, you know, second half of last year, he was probably the best player, uh, on the team and and, uh, especially over on that side of the power play. So, you know, it shows up. You touched on you guys taking taking control from the second period on. What what did you see in the first period and what sort of flip from the first to the second? Yeah, we were just a little bit slow um closing on them and and they have a a ton of speed this year. They flip a lot of pucks and they kind of hunt them down. Uh once we did a better job at getting above their guys, we turned a lot of pucks over and just kind of kept coming back at them and, you know, played into our hands. Did you kind of feel that flip when you got that power play goal to make it two? because that’s when like every um I just think that uh you know it’s nice when you get one early in the period you you kind of feed off of that but um you know we just kind of got back to the way that we played you know second half of last year the way we need to play to have success. Um so and and it it you know we we did it the entire game after that. So it was good to see hard to get to sometimes that that hard stop that Yeah, sometimes it is in the regular season. Um, you know, it’s a hard game to play all year in, you know, re regular season, uh, training camp playoffs. But, um, you know, the the more we do it early on here, it it takes a little bit to get back into it. You know, you just after being off for the summer, it’s a hard game to play every night. Um, so you got to you got to work getting back into it, and that’s what we’re doing.

The oldest player, Marchand, and the youngest player, Samoscovich, are performing the best.
