  1. Ten games in and they’re 7-3. Good start also a little sad that a significant portion of the season is gone but we kinda know what they have at this point and I think it’s a dam good team.

Great start but they can play better. The ceiling with this group is high and I expect them to continue to get better.

I also imagine Todd has got to be relieved after last night. Aside from another slow start there weren’t any glaring mistakes and they played solid. He doesn’t need any rah-rah speeches today. They can wake up get some coffee and go about business as usual

  2. A silly thought this morning. Someone needs to dig up every second of film on Dustin Byfuglien and then clockwork orange it into Soderblom.

(Accidentally posted this in the wrong thread, whoops)

And no this thought is not a judgement on Sodas game last night just more a thought on wanting a facsimile of Big Buff

  3. Its wild how much more under control this team plays when they have a lead. They’re prone to chasing the puck and doing dumb shit when its tied or they are behind but they get a lead and they lock down.

i felt, dare I say, confident up 2 with 4 minutes left and STL pushing.

  4. Wings on a heater. Contributions all over the ice. Griffins elite with record, speed and tenacious players. From a small city in Russia to colleges around the U.S., Wings have players with more than a little star dusting of talent. The cupboard is stacked and it’s a great time to be alive.

  5. I hope you all learned a valuable lesson yesterday in that the sky is not falling if we’re down 1-0 in the first period

  6. Pretty much every goalie we could have wanted to start the season off badly has. Ullmark is the worst “high volume” starter in the league so far. .858%/3.44 in 9 games. Sens fans are coping pretty hard about him rn and how his bad performance so far is actually fine but they really need him to figure it out in the next 10 games or so, and Merilainen has gotten their other 2 games and allowed 9 goals. Pretty bad goaltending in Ottawa so far. Montembault is one of two starters with worse stats than Ullmark, (Askarov the other) Monty is .842%/3.88 in only 5 games. Of course the Habs have had plot armor since covid and are getting bailed out once again by an overperforming goalie, just a different guy this year in Dobes. Stolarz majorly overperformed last year and is a .886%/3.44 in 8 games this year. Swayman has been bad as well but I don’t think the Bruins are a playoff team this year anyways.

Gibson and Talbot don’t have good stats either but we’re somehow still 15th in goals against. Sens are tied for 2nd worst with Boston, Toronto is 8th worst. Habs are 11th. Gibson hasn’t been playing terrible but if we can get a stretch of him playing over .900% hockey we’re prolly gonna win a lot of those games.

  7. Me when it comes to missing Benny’s first goal of the season every goddamn year –

  8. We lost the first game then won five. We then lost two and now are currently on a two game winning streak. If my math is correct, we should win the next eight games.

  9. For those who want to follow the Griffins:

The AHL app is great too. Get FloHockey to watch them, and just about every other minor pro and top Junior leagues game as well.

    They’re having a fantastic start.

  10. Still jacked up 💪 from last night’s win. I wonder how well do in this back to back. I like how the team plays against the Kings kast few seasons, if they can get a win in either game maybe against Anaheim that be pretty sweet

  11. A worrying start, but after tying it the Wings dominated every aspect of the game last night. Still hope they’re saving a plane ticket to California with Nate Danielson’s name on it though. Especially if Kane is still a couple of games away.

  12. Lying in bed after the alarm, hating myself for continuing to go to bed so late every night

  13. Barbashev and Eichel had a behind the net to an open man play last night, that could’ve been straight out of a Pav&Z highlights compilation. Makes you nostalgic.

  14. The Atlantic got 12 of a possible 16 last night. Ottawa was the only team to not pickup a point.

We gotta keep it rolling because we can find ourselves at he bottom of the division quickly if we don’t.

  15. I may not remember the score of last night’s game for all that long, but I will always remember Daniella saying she thought the St. Louis arch is a monument for how big Osgood’s five hole is

  16. 1. Is it me or does Gibson have a really weird butterfly techniwue? Reminds me almost of Osgood at times.
    2. With the more lient rules now, is it weird that the Tomas Holmstrom role of standing in front of the goalie and getting contantly crosschecked has seemingly been phased out?

EDIT: I should stay stricter rules calling more cross checks, and more lientent play in front of the net.

  17. It’s a night and day difference between this season’s start and last season’s start. Last season, through ten games, the Wings were 4-5-1, on the outside of the playoff picture and looking in. It didn’t get much better from there, because by the end of November, they were 10-11-2, good for a .478 points percentage. Safe to say that you’re probably not making the playoffs if that’s the best you can scrounge up in the first two months of the season.

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again now: we tend to hyperfixate on the March collapse here, for good reason, but I really do think it was last season’s lethargic start that sank the team. The Wings had a relatively easy schedule to start the season and they blew it, then they had to push for a playoff spot in the back half of the season by battling through a much harder schedule. I believe after February, they had the hardest schedule remaining, which is not a great outlook. You’re closing in on the end of a long season, you’re behind the game, and the only hope you have to make up ground is to punch above your weight class against teams who are planning on contending for a cup. It’s precisely where you don’t want to be.

A better start to last year would have gotten the Red Wings in the playoffs. Everything else being the same, if last year’s team had this team’s start to the season, it would have been a playoff team, even with the March collapse.

  18. I hope Mick is taking these away games to get rid of whatever bug he has

Gonna be a longer season now that we’re making the playoffs

  19. Got to watch a ton of hockey last night at a small get together hosted by a friend, which was fun. What I didn’t know is that they’d be talking about betting all night. As someone who doesn’t bet on much at all, I learned a shit ton about parlays, money lines, and “legs”. And yes, I got to enjoy a little bit of hockey in there, too. All that to say this sports betting obsession is obnoxious. Can’t we just enjoy the game?

  20. I wonder if part of the reason they moved to Ed/Mo and ASP/Benny as pairs was to have a vet with each young defenseman. Asking Ed to cement a pair with a rookie was a big ask for a guy not far removed from just 100 games.

  21. I’m optimistic. We’re 7-3 despite a low PDO, below expected goal differential, shaky goaltending, and multiple players still not at their best (most notably Seider). TBH we’re kinda lucky to be 7-3 because of our lack of luck in those metrics; we also probably deserve to be 7-3 because of those metrics. If things even normalize, we should keep winning

  22. We currently have four guys at PPG or better and Finnie is just under. Early days and all, but I don’t really care, that’s a nice start.

  23. Looks like they’re playing in Vegas next week so I was thinking of catching a flight and staying the night…how expensive could it be…well SWA is charging $300 each way to get there from Denver and I just can’t swing that for one night.

Then another thought occurred to me….why don’t I just make more money, what am I stupid or something?

  24. Reading Max Bultman’s article today and he talked about the road trip. I don’t know if it was on purpose, but this excerpt made me laugh.

“the Red Wings head to Los Angeles to face a Kings team that’s starting to find its game, then to Anaheim to see the young, exciting Ducks. Then they’ll take on the San Jose Sharks”

  25. Apparently the only team this season where every player, including goalies, has registered a point

  26. I am actually pretty bummed that we’ve only seen the centennial jerseys on the ice one time. I was really hoping most of the home games would be in the neat new sweaters
