Whatever the moment, it’s never ordinary at Bet 365. That is Greg Boyce. I am Jay Zawoski. That’s Sarah Victor over there running the show. Hawks beat the Ottawa Senators 7 to3. Connor Bedard a four-point night. Three goals, one assist. Lots of good. Lots of good in this game. So much to talk about. Do us a favor, hit that like button for us. Make sure you are subscribed to our YouTube page as well. We see already 150 something of you have already hit the like button. So that means Noodle Man is on right away. Right away. Every hundred likes, the Noodle Man wakes up and he is awake and ready to go just as we are. There is so much to get to here, Greg. And I don’t even really know where to begin. Aside from Connor Badard hattrick, all the stuff that we thought we were going to see from Connor Bard when we watched all the highlights of him with with Regina and and uh and all the World Junior stuff and the changing the angle and all that. It was all on display tonight. The snipes, the tow drags, everything. Connor Baddard was on display. He was awesome tonight. Uh, I don’t know, played like a man possessed. Really, I don’t know if he’s starting to read some of the stuff about some of the other guys drafted in years around him. And he’s like, “All right, enough of this crap. I’m going to start showing people.” But I love the aggressive mindset from him when he had the opportunity. He shot the damn puck and it resulted in four points. Yeah. I mean, we saw that world class release, that that killer instinct tonight. Uh he he uh you know he scored the goal the last game and that was kind of just like a fly by redirect and tonight was you know from from three different spots of the ice that second goal uh is going to be on highlight reels and career packages that’s right up there with the Michigan goal in St. Louis as one of the best of his career. Yes. Just skated right down the middle of the ice. Nobody wanted to get in his way. Uh, and then he continues to terrorize Lenus Olmark, uh, who he scored his first career goal against, and now his first career hatt-trick, uh, nine points in five games against the Ottawa Senators in his career. Four games against Yes, please. the Ottawan. Move the Hawks to the Eastern Conference. Otawans. San Diegons. Otans. Yeah. What is What is How does Elliot Freeman pronounce it? That’s what we’ll go. Yeah, that’s what we’ll go with. O a would that is that what he would call them? Something like that. Uh man, it’s it’s just nice and and you know what you mentioned there that second goal where he parts the you know Senators like the Red Sea was very reminiscent of that overtime winner he scored against Winnipeg. Um, and the more he has performances like this, not hat-ticks, but where he’s dangerous every time he’s on the ice, teams are going to start fearing him a little bit. Cuz I think what we’ve seen a little bit early in his career has been teams have felt like, ah, we can just push him around, knock him off the puck really easily, and he’ll just go away. This season, he’s been a different guy. And aside from the three holes, aside from the assist, aside from winning uh 60% of his faceoffs tonight, how many times do we see him back check? There was a play that almost made a 4-4. Tim Stutzel walked Sam Renzel, Bard just furiously back checks and lifts his stick at the last second and and maybe saves a goal there. There were several moments in this game where he chipped in defensively, too. the all-around game’s coming. And I think he’s starting to get the message that the all-around will lead to offense. Yeah. Because when you are defending, it means you have the effing puck. And when you have the effing puck, it means you can shoot the effing puck, pass the effing goalie into the effing net. FNA. Exactly. All true. Yes. Undeniable. True. Those are all facts. Uh yeah, I mean it’s kind of Jeff Blau’s philosophy from day one here was uh you know get these guys playing better defensively uh you know better habits, winning habits as he likes to say and we’re starting to see that you know with Bedard and I think having a guy like Frank Nazar here all season you know they they they’re kind of attached at the hip now and you know Nazar does a lot of those little things defensively that don’t show up on score sheets but help win hockey games and and you know another year with guys like uh you know Ryan Donado and and Jason Dickinson and and Ilia McKay like that type of play is only going to lead by example and eventually rub off on a guy that just want it just absorbs everything and just wants to be the best hockey player he possibly can be And you know, third season there’s it’s happening for him. I think we all kind of a lot of us thought this was going to be the breakout season and so far we’re seeing it. Not that his first two seasons were bad by any stretch of the imagination, but the first season was, you know, all the pressure of being the number one overall pick and all that living up to the hype and all that stuff. Um, and then last season was supposed to be better and it wasn’t, you know, for the team. The whole the team was supposed to be better. It was just a very frustrating season. We had the that stretch where you had the backto-back games with misconducts and then all the uh body language experts around the world. Yeah. and and you know so all that he spent the summer working on the little details of his game and that’s what’s putting him up into that next echelon of players around the league and you know it’s all systems go from now and and just as you mentioned there are a lot of the little things that you weren’t seeing there was a play today uh he got the puck on a line change and he got in the zone and all five defenders were standing in there and he stopped and waited for the the the rest of the guys and I turned to you and said last year he tries to skate through all five of those guys. He’s finally learned and there’s a four on the other way. He’s finally learned live to fight another day. He just chipped the puck down low and and got off the ice and let and let the next line do it. So, you’re starting to see all those little in those tangibles that people love to say, the intangibles. uh you’re starting to see those come to fruition and it’s making the difference in his game and it’s going to allow him to hem more games like tonight where all of a sudden he just feels it and that puck is just shooting off his stick. Unbeliev Three unbelievable shots tonight. They were they were great and three different shots equally great. Yes. And he is obviously the winner of the game puck. We’re not even going to put the vote up there. I’m already I’m already talking. Take that Spencer Knight. Your winning streak is over. But there there’s a couple guys. Get a helmet that stays on your head. This is the Bard show. There’s no doubt about it. But a couple other guys need some special mention and I said to you during the game if Tyler Berti doesn’t practice the rest of the year and plays this way, I’m in. He is last year solid back on the hockey card. Streaky but overall gave you what you thought you were going to get. This year he is a wild man. He is planted in front of the net. He is dropping the gloves. He is a factor every time he’s on the ice. And it’s like if you’re still out on Tyler Bertusi, it’s either a bit or you’re just one of these people that is just too dug in and will not admit that you’re wrong or that things can change. Like he has been a massive difference maker. And we talked about it the other night like in that LA game LA he was so missed. Yeah. And you know, last year he would disappear. At times you wouldn’t really even notice it because he wasn’t always a factor. This year, what was this, game 10? Game. Yeah, his ninth game. Yeah, his ninth game. He has been one of the outstanding players in every game he has played this year. Obviously, Jeff Blash knows what to do to get Pratusi to bring that engagement every night. That was his biggest problem last season. It was the engagement wasn’t there every night. And that was frustrating cuz he’d have a game where you’re like, “Ah, that’s the guy we signed and then you’d have to wait four or five games until you saw that again.” But so far through his nine games this year, he’s been constant uh and and been excellent. Maybe it has to do with, you know, having him on, you know, a line to begin with this season with with Tavo and and Nazar where there was some chemistry there. Yeah. Um, I think it probably also has to do with like he’s got a very defined role this season that maybe last year at the beginning of the year, Luke was maybe asking him to do things that were outside of his game. Yeah. And he’s wasn’t necessarily comfortable with. Now he’s back with a coach he knows and he said, “Burke, this is what I need you to do. Just do this. Don’t worry about anything else.” Sarah, today you made a clip that we ran on social media from Tony Granado where he actually talked about putting all the Hawks in the right roles. If we don’t have it, it’s fine. Tony Granado was with us yesterday and basically said like one of the things that Jeff Flashel needs credit for is he has put everyone in a position to succeed. He is not asking guys to do things that are not their role or not their jobs. He he’s putting him and he said that’s the coach’s biggest job is to put his players in position to succeed. And he said like when he goes, you know, when he goes through the Blackhawks roster and tries to grade out, you know, what what grade you give, he’s like the lowest grade come with is a beam. Let’s play it here. We have right here. This from yesterday’s show. Here’s Tony Granado. You know, we we what we haven’t really talked about is Jeff Blfield’s influence on the group. He’s given them the confidence uh to be themselves. uh he’s he’s kind of carved out a little bit of role for each of them. Some of them are different than others, but each of them know what Jeff expects that they can add to the team. You don’t want all the same. You want, you know, Colton Doc has been given a certain responsibility. Obviously, McKay’s been given a responsibility. All these guys, I think, have really understood what’s being asked of them. And if you if you grade out on all these guys, I mean I mean the worst grade, I don’t know, would be maybe a B minus out of out of all of the players this year so far. And that’s outstanding after 10 games that you say, “Wow, this guy’s having a terrible start to the year.” I don’t know that you could say that about anybody and the lineup. So, kudos to the coaches and kudos to the guys for absorbing what Jeff’s tried to instill here. All right, great. Thanks for grabbing that, Sarah. Appreciate that very much. It’s just I do think there is something about the way BL coaches that Burkovski is like, “Yes, this is what I believe in. This is the kind of hockey that I love.” It’s the sign of a good coach where you build your system around the players you have as opposed to trying to make the players you have fit your system. Thank you. Which is which is what got Jeremy Collington ran out of here real quick. Yes. It you you see what you have and you put guys at what they’re good at. It it it shouldn’t be that difficult, but to some coaches it is because they got to be the smartest guy in the room. They feel like they have to prove themselves or something. And the best coaches in any sport are those that are able to adjust year to year as your roster changes. That’s what made Bill Bichc so good. I know it’s a different sport, but with the Patriots, yeah, the constant was Tom Brady every year, but he had different styles. They won all those different Super Bowls playing differently each time. He was good enough to adjust and say, “This is the guys I have. How do I get the best out of these guys? Oh, now I have Randy Moss.” Yeah, great. He’s gone. Now I have Yeah. I mean, yeah, he had great players. That certainly helps. Yeah, but they won differently every time. It wasn’t the same thing over and over again. So, um, yeah, it’s been a great start to Jeff Blill. We’re just scratching the surface. It’s it’s 10 games into this season, 10 games into his tenure. I’m sure there’s going to be a point where everybody’s going to be like, “Oh, we got to fire this guy.” But it’s just different. It’s just It’s just different. It feels different because he’s he’s just so good at adjusting and and getting the most out of guys and and it’s obvious these guys want to play for him and for each other. Um and and you know, we saw it again tonight. Guys not backing down. You know, Prtusi sticking up for himself, but then guys jumping in to stick up for him and Louis Creier did a little bit of that early in the game where where uh someone was taking a run at Padard and he wouldn’t end. I think it was Amario tried to take a run at him. And the Renzel hit, you had uh you had uh Bertusi go after him. You had Doc come on the ice and try to go after so like Yeah, you’re seeing who I would love to have as a Blackhawk. That was another conversation we had. He’s he’s a pain in the ass. Uh but this team is is and they responded well. We’ll get into the second period which was a nightmare, but they responded well and they were able to pull away in the third, which is which is an impressive sign because they took the lesson. They obviously learned a lesson from Sunday and they didn’t want to repeat that. Um so it it was great that they were able to regain that momentum in the third period. Well, let’s let’s get into that. Not not I I and I think the you might feel like, oh, we’re going to turn the show negative. Um, McBaconator says, “Great win, but what is offsides? What is puck possession?” Cuz I don’t know anymore. That was a $5 super chat. I tweeted it during the game. I’d love to give you an opinion on this Tim Stuttel play. I I don’t know what offside is. I don’t know what what goalender interference is anymore, so I’m just going to shut up. Replay sucks. It’s awful. And and so the actual ruling, wasn’t the ruling that he had possession of puck when you So here’s the official ruling. I know if you have the puck and your feet go in before you’re not considered offside. It’s when you don’t have the puck. Right. Right. But here’s what the video This is what the official explanation said. The video review confirm Tim Sutla had possession and control of the puck as he entered the attacking zone prior to his goal. Rule 83.1 states in part, “A player controlling the puck who shall cross the line ahead of the puck shall not be considered offside providing he had possession and control of the puck prior to his skates crossing leading. He didn’t have the puck, but he didn’t he so he pulled it forward from the boards, but then it was I think it was him and Cousins. It was between the two of them. It was he had to reach to get the puck back. It wasn’t on his stick. I could see if you’re So, what that rule is to me, if I’m entering the zone and I I got this puck on my stick and I pull it on side with me, that’s on side. Yeah, that call has been made before. Yeah, but he didn’t. The puck was not on his stick until after he was in the zone. I I it is I don’t know between that between the disallowed Btusi goal against Vancouver, the Hawks have two more points this year, frankly, because of that. Like, it’s just Well, one more. or they got one point. That game went to overtime, but it wouldn’t have gone overtime. That’s true. But they still would have had two points. Yeah, it would be one more point. But like it’s just I the worst thing that a sport can have is lack of trust from fans. And I have been watching hockey consciously for 37 years. You probably close to the same. And we are paid to talk about hockey. And I cannot tell you when I see an offside review what way it’s gonna go. I don’t even I don’t comment online anymore during a challenge because I what no matter what I think it’s going to be, it’s probably not going to be that cuz I replay room has turned rules once black and white rules into gray mush. It’s it’s terrible. And here I mean look and this is my thing with and I don’t want to do a whole show on this. We got summer to do that. But like my idea of offside review if you have to go frame by frame by frame by frame to make a call, it didn’t impact the goal anyway. It like right, you know what I mean? Like it wasn’t like a clear massive advantage for anybody. No, it was just you got to go. Oh yeah, look at that. The the the little uh skate lace was over like God. That’s not the point of replay, right? It’s to get something wrong that you effed up. repair something you have replay in hockey should only be good good goal or not. I agree with that. Is is the puck over the goal line or not? And high stick is also definitively the crossbar. So fine. Sure if you want to look at that too. All right. Uh enough of that. Luis two bucks says uh there. Can we STFU? I can’t say that on the air. Luis come on about Bard versus Cababrini. It’s never going to end. No, it’s going to be there forever. And I’ll say this, it was it was the same forever with Crosby and Ovuchkin. People had to dig in and take a side instead of just enjoying two of the best players in the history. There was some of that with Crosby and Taves, too. Yes, there was. So, yeah. I mean, Ovetkin and Crosby made sense because there was a rivalry there. Those teams were in the same division. They played each other in the playoffs a bunch. They got the Vibes Bowl this year. Yeah. But until like that ri hopefully the the the Sharks and the Blackhawks get that kind of rivalry. It feels like two players. I mean those rivalries get intensified with with some playoff match. So you get Celibbrini versus Bard in a you know Western Conference final. Okay. Then we could start doing the who’s better, but otherwise it’s silly. We talked about the other. It’s silly. How about you enjoy two really great young players? I just don’t think that it it doesn’t have one being better than the other doesn’t matter to either team, right? And they’re both they’re also very different players. I I don’t know. It just it’s annoying, but it’s never going to stop. It’s silly. Uh I’m sure I’m sure the whole summer they spent together, they just laughed at all of it. Yeah, I I would hope so. Uh Hawward Slapshot says, “Love how we stayed strong after the Suns rallied in a second. Bent but didn’t break. Let’s go Hawks.” And yeah, like it felt really bad there for a second. And and honestly, even before Baddard scored the second goal, Ottawa was all over him. Yeah. And then they had a couple chances that went just wide, they could have certainly been when they got that penalty 24 seconds. Renzel got the sec his second penalty. 24 seconds into the second period, I was like, uhoh, here we go. They’re going to score on this power play and it’s going to be another awful second period. Yeah. Yeah, it was. But it just took a little while. Yeah. Well, look, it’s, you know, the re the the ch the timeout. I’m glad he took a timeout. I wasn’t sure he was going to then they challenge. And you don’t love that they’re short-handed. I think they took the timeout to confirm they were going to challenge. I would have taken the timeout after the second goal. Just Well, yeah. Just to calm things down because that was soon as they got that first goal, which was fluky, weird, dumb goal. Ottawa took over and then the Hawks were able to get out of that period and then the third period Ottawa definitely looked like a team playing on the second night of a backtoback and that Pard Hatcher cold killed them. They were done. Yeah, thank God. But I am happy that they were able to overcome that and it’s kind of weird. It’s almost like the penalty kill like settle them down a little bit. penalty kills been great because they weren’t trying to I think what we were seeing a lot was as the second period started getting away early, you started to see guys like maybe leaving the zone a little soon, squeezing the squeezing the stick really hard. Oh, we we’re doing it again. We’re doing it again. A lot of hot potato with the puck in the defensive zone. Get it away from me. I don’t want it. Whereas when you’re short-handed, your job is to just keep the puck out of the net and clear it. And maybe just simplifying that a little bit helped them like I think the timeout I think the challenge and honestly I think the penalty kill killing that penalty on the delay of game penalty that that changed it because shortly after that uh I marked it down on my notes would a little little less than 6 minutes in the in the second period. The Nazar line had a an extended shift and they got their first two shots on goal since the Bard goal. That was their only shot on goal for 15 minutes in that period. But that but the but the Nazar line got in there, started cycling the puck, got a couple of scoring chances and then the Bard line came out next and they had some offensive zone time and all of a sudden things got settled down and they were back into the flow. Well, and here’s the other thing too. You mentioned that. Second period, the Hawks only had five shots. Outshot nine to five. Third period, they bounced back with 13 shots, the most they had the whole game. Outshot Awa 13 to8. And usually in a hockey game, you can count on when a team is trailing. It has a name in the analytics world. It’s called score effects. Yeah. where you and I think if you go back and look at the like natural statick for the 8-3 win over the Blues, the Blues actually had an advantage in shot attempts because they were just like, “F it, we’re losing 8-3. We just got to throw everything we can at the net.” The Hawks were able to really kind of lock it down in the third. I do think what you said too is Ottawa started getting tired. They realized the game was out of reach and they just were kind of like, “All right, let’s not get hurt here. This is over.” Yeah, they they kind they you know the the air was taken out of the tires and they just they kind of were going through the motions until Nick Cousins was Nick Cousins and then Tyler Petusi beat the crap out of them. Love that. All right. Uh one more super chat uh before we hit the break zone. Samuel says, “Hatty for Betsy. I really love this team. Haven’t had this much fun watching the Hawks in forever. If they keep this pace, you think they’ll trade the vets to or keep them and go for the playoffs?” So, actually got called out on this on Discord. Rightfully so. I forget who did it. Uh, like last week I was like, “Hey, even if they’re in playoff position, screw it. Trade the vets and get Fondell here, get here, you know, and just let let these guys start their careers.” And then a week later, I was like, “But maybe a playoff experience or even like the chase for a playoff spot would be really valuable for this team. So maybe keep the veterans.” The answer is I don’t know. Today, 10 games into the season, I don’t know what the right answer is. I think we’ve got to see how this goes. And ask me again on Thanksgiving and ask me again on Christmas and then, you know, over the Olympic break. And I think we’ll have a clearer picture of can this team well I mean it depends around competing around if they if they think what Connor Murphy and Jason Dickinson the guys that would be traded if they think the value of them keeping this team together and pushing for a playoff spot if they’re still in it by then is more valuable than the third or fourth round pick they’ll get for him. That’s the thing. That’s, you know, as we’ve seen, you know, second round pick picks don’t mean squat to Kyle Davidson. He just wants them so he can bundle them together and get back in the first round. Yeah. Or move up, right? It’s the first round and the third round where he does most of his damage. So, you know, it depends what they value more. I think it’s still too early. Right now, they’re on pace for 98 points. 12 points in 10 games gets you 98 points, which would have got you in the playoffs last year. Yeah. We’ll see. We’ll see. We’ll see. I mean, this road trip is going to be a massive test. And Thursday against Winnipeg is their biggest biggest challenge of the year. We’re going to see a lot. I mean, this road trip is tough. It’s it’s Winnipeg. It’s uh Edmonton. It’s Seattle who’s played better than really good. Uh they they get in good goalending. They’re like the Hawks. They’re exceeding expectations because they’re getting good goalending. Um Vancouver, who they’ve already lost to this year, is on this trip, correct? Yeah, the Vancouver, they hit them too in Seattle. And then they end it with Detroit, who is kind of a jackal and high team. Yeah, they beat the Blues 5-2 tonight, but it’s not 83. Um I mean Detroit either beaches 7 to2 or loses seven to two. There’s there’s no in between there. So, it’s going to be a very tough road trip for them. But if they if they go three and three on this trip, that’s a huge win. I mean, they come back. If they’re three and three on this trip, that’s a that’s cause for celebration. Yeah. I mean, that should not celebration. It should. Yeah. And you know, you got the Calgary game in there. Uh you know, there’s three winnable games there at least. But yeah, you’re right. We we’ll get a we’ll get a good feel for them Thursday against Winnipeg. you know, not only are they still one of the top teams in the league, the President’s Trophy last year, but it’s, you know, Jonathan Taves, all that stuff. It won’t be as big of a deal as when they come here for the first time, but it’s still going to be a big deal. Uh, that building’s going to be rocking. So, yeah, the but let’s here’s what I say. Let’s just enjoy what we got right now before we worry about who’s trading and what we’re going to do because by the time the trade deadline gets here, who knows where any of this is going to be, but let’s just enjoy the fact that they didn’t repeat themselves tonight and they were able to pull out a big win against a team that’s been playing really good hockey lately. The Senators had back-to-back games with seven goals scored and then they give up seven tonight. I don’t know if that’s the first time that’s ever happened. I would think so. I mean, maybe like back in the day when when goalies were like my goal setting method is to not stop. Well, I mean, think of the 80s, the Nor the Norris division in the 80s. Every game was seven to five. So, uh but you know, it it was good. It just let’s just enjoy what’s going on now. The Hawks have a young exciting team. You’ve got guys like Nick Lardis and Oliver Moore just destroying the AHL right now. You got Roman Conro just destroying the KHL right now. Fondell’s look good. Just let let it all play out. It’s all blessed. It’s It’s going to be really fun season. Let’s just enjoy it one step at a time and not worry about what they should and shouldn’t do five months from now. 100%. All right, we are late for the break zone. We’re going to hit it. Hit that like button. We need uh about 80 more likes to activate Noodle Man one more time. So, let’s get there. to get that at 600 mark before the show ends. We should hear from Mario Turbosi from the UC shortly as well on the CHDL Blackhawks podcast presented by Bet 365. We are at the Fred House on Madison. We moved on from Connor Badard’s little bedroom uh with his toys and we are now with the Fred House. He is our featured player today. Three goals, one assist, 1625 of ice time, won 60% of his faceoffs. That is a very very solid game for Connor Bard. Five shots on goal, six shot attempts. Uh also credited with a takeaway and a block shot all over the score sheet tonight for Connor Bard. My favorite Connor Bdard moment was uh when he scored that second goal. He kind of just turned around was like, “Yeah, of course I did that. Come here and love me.” Yes. Come praise my goal. It wasn’t It wasn’t the over, you know, over the top getting, you know, hyped. He was just kind of like, “Yeah, it’s exactly how I drew that up.” Yeah, I knew that was going to happen. That’s what I wanted to do. Um I do want to We did shout out uh Tower Berusi. Another guy who I want to shout out, Andre Burikovski. The f focus yesterday of practice was power play. You called it on the last show. Put Burkowski in a top unit. The Hawks had exactly one power play today. It took him all of 16 seconds. They have Andre Burkovski set up Connor Baddard for a power play goal. A beautiful pass basically from the goal line back to about like the faceoff dot on the other side. But Dart on the right side today uh instead of the left side, so he was on his uh forehand and uh just ripped that shot home. Beautiful goal. Uh man, Burkovsky, aside from that pass, had some really nice moments in this game. Some nice setups. He actually the Donado goal, he did a really good job getting Bard that puck to get that shot on and then Donado buried the rebound. Um, if this is the Burkovski that shows up more often than not, uh, that’ll be really good to see. Uh, with two assists and a plus two. He he and Bard have got some good chemistry going. Seems like it. Yeah. Yeah. He’s not He’s the He’s been the guy that’s been the the constant on that line. Uh, and you know, why not? He’s got the speed to keep up with him and he’s got the vision and the wherewithal to know that the puck can be on his stick at any time and he has also got the vision to find him at any time. So, it’s been a good combination. I guess we’ve got some uh chatty Blackhawks. I know Mario just sent in Connor Bernard, so maybe we can fire that up uh shortly here. Um but Burkovski and Christo says it in the chat, Burkovski is a top six player when healthy. I mean, we kind of been saying that all summer. When you when you look at him, when he’s had healthy seasons and when he’s played with players that are really good, he has produced at this level. Now, he’s not Carell Capriov. He’s not that kind of a top six player, but I would venture to say that Burkovski is the most offensively gifted player that Betard has had as a consistent linemate. Yeah, I think that’s fair to say. Um I mean he spent a lot of time with Nazar last year so if you want to make that argument but like not a lot of time but yeah in terms of as far as regular linemate. Yeah. Um of the veterans he’s had to play with. Um I mean Burkovski is a a step up from Taylor Hall and and you know those those guys that we thought were going to be guys forever. Taylor Hall had a better career than Burkovski but I think at the right now better player. You give me give me Burikovski every day over Taylor Hall. Like there there’s a little more gas left in the tank for Burikovski. You know, Hall’s doing a good job in Carolina. I’m not slamming him, but that’s that’s that’s a team that is using him appropriately. He was being asked to do way too much here. He can’t do that anymore. They want the Blackhawks wanted him to be, you know, 2017 heart trophy winning Taylor Hall and those days are long gone. That would have been nice. Yes, it would have been great. He’d still be here if he was that guy. All right, while we wait for Mario, why don’t we fire up Connor Baddard, who spoke after the game today? Here he is, the man of the hour himself, Connor Bedard to have that moment and and just what was it feeling when that third one went in? Um, yeah, it’s nice. Uh, you know, I think just how our whole team celebrates each other um in in moments like that. Uh, and then, you know, kind of the fans reaction was was awesome. you know, we have so much support and um you know, obviously you want to get a head anywhere, but to get one at home is is nice and to kind of have that support is is unbelievable. I know you’ve always had confidence, but how much just the way this whole group is playing this year does that even give you more out there in in your game? Yeah, I think, you know, no matter what, you’re going to go into every game like you can win. But, you know, we really have such a belief in here in our group. And, um, you know, I think coming into the year, if you ask people that, you know, weren’t a part weren’t a part of our team, um, their expectations, it might have been low, but we never thought like that. And obviously, it’s it’s only 10 games in, we have a, you know, a ton of work to do. But, uh, we just believe in one another and and it’s such a, you know, tight-knit group that, you know, we’re going to play for each other. So, uh, it’s been fun and but, you know, in the end, it’s one game. and we got to keep building and um you know keep trying to stack wins. Jeff Lashel said a few days ago he just felt you were close to to you know being a little bit more precise on those goals. It it seemed like you were you kind of hitting the spots you wanted to make. Uh yeah I think that’s kind of you know how it goes and sometimes you can you know like Anaheim I don’t know how many shots I had probably 10 or something and none goes in and today it’s you know almost everyone. So that’s that’s how hockey is you know sometimes going in sometimes it’s not. So, I think for me just kind of trying to, you know, stick with it, keep shooting, and um you know, not not get too high, not get too low, and and that’s our whole group. So, um you know, it’s nice to see him go in for sure, but um you’re going to have, you know, ups and downs. After last game, was difficult just the power play, your goal being a power play, how important was that? I thought thought it was huge, especially uh time of the game. you know, we talked about them coming off a backto-back last last game and um you know, if we get one of those power plays and maybe they they don’t quit, but they they feel a little more and I think that’s that was the importance of that three nothing goal and um just for our power play, get a little confidence to get one and um but yeah, that’s big. We’re going to have we’re going to need our power to to win games and obviously it’s nice to get one there. How different is it to be on the right side of the power play like that than you were on the left side earlier in the season? Um, yeah, I just think uh gives you a different kind of vision of the ice. You know, you’re going you’re going downhill at guys and um, you know, I think I like both sides, but in some ways I think there’s there’s benefits to it and um, you know, obviously worked. We only got the one and, you know, hit one shot and it it was it was uh, it was in, so obviously it looks good, but um, you know, I’m excited to get some more powers and kind of, you know, work work on that side and see how it goes. How do you look at this long road trip? I’m excited. Um, you know, I think for for us it’s going to be fun. You know, I think just, you know, time to bond and, um, you know, I think when you’re game four, five, six of the road trip and you’re you’re kind of grinding and, you know, that’s when you really become become a good team and, uh, become closer and you’re really playing for each other when maybe, you know, you’re a little tired and uh, you know, the guys with kids and stuff, I want to go see them. I mean, it doesn’t matter for me, so I’m I’m chilling, but uh, you know, stuff like that. So, I think it it brings you together and um you know, we’re looking forward to it and it’s it’s big for us. It’s six games. That’s a lot of games. So, we obviously have to have a good trip. We were talking about to with Nick about how this is a game that you guys kind of lost last year when it got to Florida. What just the difference this year? Do you guys not feel the game like we were still going to win this game? Yeah, I think you know we you know we give up three goals there quick in the second and we didn’t we didn’t have our best period obviously and I think just coming in the room and and you fully reset. I think you got to go in every every period like it’s 000 and um you know I really think we did a good job of not playing not to lose. We were playing to win and attack and try to score more goals and uh we were able to do that. So um you know that’s a really good experience for us you know myself all the young guys to um have something like that a little diversity and then be able to pull away. Any initial thoughts on playing uh Connor but Jonathan T that guy? Um yeah, I think I think for him it’s going to be a cool game. Obviously someone that means so much to the city, the fans, um you know, the organization, everyone kind of here. So, um for him to get to play us again and and for for all of us, you know, it’s a guy we grew up watching and um you know, kind of someone I think the whole world was rooting for hearing his story of, you know, the last couple years and coming back and uh playing for his hometown. So, uh it’s going to be fun fun to get to play against against a guy like that. And I know obviously it’s not at home, but I think a lot of a lot of Hawks fans will be kind of watching that and um it’ll be it’ll be cool for them. I’m curious, this is a little further down the line, but do you think of the Olympics right now? Do you think of the possibilities of being on that team or is that something you put in the future or I’m just curious how much that’s on your mind? Yeah, especially when you have a hat-tick. Yeah. No, I mean, like I said, I don’t think you can get get too high. Um, you know, of course, if if that’s something that I get to do, that would be unbelievable. And, you know, I would do anything to be on that team. But, um, you know, I think just trying to kind of take things day by day and, um, you know, have fun playing in the NHL and and trying to grow as a team and and win hockey games and um, you know, do everything I can to to play my best hockey. And, you know, in the end, that’ll be what, you know, puts me in a spot to make it. But, there’s I mean, it’s Canada, there’s so many amazing players, you never know. So, um, you know, I just got to kind of keep doing what I doing, keep doing what I’m doing, and you know, I’m focused on the Hawks and, uh, that stuff kind of comes later down the line. Is this the most fun you’ve had your three years here? Um, getting there. Yeah. I mean, I don’t Oh, I mean I think you know personally coming to the year maybe you know a little better mindset and and just knowing um you know the league and stuff and you know maybe being a little more more relaxed and um you know it’s easy to say that after a hattick and uh a win but um you know I think just just our group is is super motivated and um you know loves each other and it’s it’s been a lot of fun so far. So we just want to keep building that and and keep you know having a good product on the ice. There he is, Connor Baddard. And there the other guy is. That’s Mario Turbosi from the United Center. A chatty counter today. Yeah, everyone had so much to say tonight. Um, you guys haven’t even seen Nick Felino’s five minutes and Louis Creier’s four minutes and I don’t even have time to go through all of Jeff Blasil’s 11 minutes uh after after today’s game. But I mean, hey, lots of positive things to say about about this game, about the way that they played. about Conor Bard. Um, and and where this team is at an early 10 games into the season. Um, yeah, I mean, I I I think there’s there’s a lot of positivity. It’s it’s it’s a fun night. Uh, when 60 minutes is over, 30 minutes through it wasn’t wasn’t as fun, but um, no, it it was it was a good game, good atmosphere. Team feels different. It really does. It really does feel different than I think a lot of people were expecting. And um I think even even for myself uh the way this team is playing, the way that Jeff Blashel has this group playing um the belief that they have in themselves like it is a lot different uh than it has been in the last few years. You know, uh you brought up a name that we have not brought up yet and we we really should. Louis Krevier um with a goal and an assist in this game uh has not come out of the lineup at all this season. has been really solid. Clearly put in a ton of work in the offseason to get a little bit faster. I don’t know how much stronger he needs to get, but got seemingly stronger, too. And he’s been What I like about Creier is he is clearly playing with a lot of confidence. Like not afraid to put the puck on net. And uh first two goals were were because of him. Yeah. And for a guy who were like, eh, he’ll be the seventh defenseman and they don’t have to worry about him. I don’t just throw him in a press box for two months and let him rot and put him in there when you need to. He has been an asset, not just a warm body. He has been an asset to this team. Yeah. I mean, Jeff Blashel is playing seven defenseman to give him an opportunity to play and be effective and, you know, he’s using him on the penalty kill as as one of those guys that, you know, on the right side of the of the defense. You talk about Venzel and Levchanov and Murphy and and and Krevier and they’re all playing a role, playing a purpose and you know he’s one of those guys that I think has benefited from Jeff Blashel coming in and clearly defining expectations and roles for you know these players. I mean, yeah, you can go in and say, “Oh, you you can expect XYZ out of guys like Alex Flick, Connor Bard, Frank Nazar, like they don’t necessarily need to know exactly what their role is to be successful.” But when you go down the lineup, you talk to here you talk about a guy like Colton Doc, Louis Creier, like those are types of players that you know when they get to this level, knowing what is going to be their role and clearly defining what is the expectations from them gives them something to work towards. And I think for for Krevier, the mindset for us, like you like you said, like he’s probably their seventh defenseman and you don’t really give a lot of mind to him because he’s not Wyatt Kaiser. He’s not Kevin Kchinsky or Ethan Delm Mash or Nolan Allen, but he’s making it so that those guys stay in Rockford. Like Luis Krevier is has has become an asset to this to this team and and I think it’s he’s kind of got nothing to lose playing this way. I I and and and being in this in this role and and taking advantage of this opportunity because I think a lot of the perception is that he’s you know on the borderline of the defensive group and if he doesn’t play well then he sits like okay I think to him maybe that’s you know that that might have been the expectation coming into this year that I he probably was going to be sitting a lot. So, he’s going out there and and he’s playing into this role and he’s doing it with a lot more confidence because he’s seen some success. He’s getting the opportunity. Uh, and that allows him to just kind of play a little bit more freely within that role and within, you know, that that player type and that that expectation that he’s uh that that he’s been given. So, I think he’s just got a lot of confidence from the messaging of it and from the opportunity he’s been given and he’s he’s running with it. Couple comments. Uh, someone said that they they felt that our comments about Crevier leading into the season were rude. And our buddy BJD says like, “Let’s pump the brakes. He’s playing 12 minutes a night. He’s got two points in his 12 minutes.” Like he he’s he is he’s been an effective player when he’s out there. And I do think that Jeff Lashel recognizes like this is not Zado out here, but he is a guy that’s reliable, plays a safe game, and has shown some offensive upside that we didn’t see. And our opinions leading into the season were based on the mountain of evidence we had that that’s exactly what Louis Cre was going to be. The seventh defenseman who they were comfortable putting in the press box for a few weeks. That wasn’t disrespectful. It’s true because they wanted Allen and Delmro and Kchinsky and Levinov and Renzel like they wanted those guys playing big minutes in Rockford or playing in Chicago. So they felt like Krevier was okay to keep up there cuz they they don’t and maybe they still don’t see him as a long-term piece. But he is making the most out of his opportunity and he deserves praise for it. I mean I don’t I don’t think that that’s rude. I think it’s just it’s just being it’s observing what’s happening. Well, Blash’s using the seven defenseman every night because it’s working. All seven defenseman are being effective uh at times. He can have flexibility of who plays 20 minutes tonight and who only plays 14 minutes. It it changes from game to game depending on on the situations. And it it’s been working. So that’s why he’s been out there, Rene, because Krevier has has been effective. You know, he had the he had the goal in Boston and this is, you know, a two a two-point game tonight. Yeah. You know, the the first goal of the game was Colton Doc scoring on a rebound off of Louis Creier and then the second goal was him just racing to a puck at the boards, turning around and shooting it without even thinking and it surprised Mark and it went in the net. Like that that’s a great instinctual play. And yeah, while Kre is not going to be getting Norris trophy votes anytime soon, it’s like we talked about before you got on Mario and that did you talked about yesterday with Tony Granado. Jeff Blashel has found a way to really put guys in positions to succeed and the Blackhawks are benefit from it and Krevier is one one of those guys. They’re not asking him to do too much, right? They’re asking him to do exactly what he can provide. Yeah, and I think I think if you get and we talked about that when but going into the season in regards to a lot of the veterans, right? We talked about like, okay, be be the player that you’re expected to be when it comes to tablevine and Tyler Bertusi, so on and so forth. I mean, with a guy like Louis Creier, if you say like be the player that you’re expected to be, I mean I mean that’s a serviceable defenseman, a guy that you can get 15 minutes out of in a in a you know in a lower pay role and yet and and don’t don’t go out there and cost us anything. And he’s and he’s he’s been doing that. And I think it’s nice to have a guy that is 6’8, isn’t posing, and moves the way he does. Like that is a unique type of defenseman. And it, as we’ve seen already this season, like he’s a guy that can go in and, you know, mix it up as as as a big big player. So, with the attitude and mentality that this team has had through the first 10 games and how many times that we’ve seen, you know, scrums and guys sticking up for each other, um, having a guy like Krevier be able to be one of those types of guys is it’s also a good thing. Yeah, definitely. Um, what else did Jeff Flash like to say about this? I know you said he talked for what, like 11 minutes. What were his big takeaways? Uh, I mean big takeaways, I I think the the the main thing was and as it has been so far through the first 10 games of the season is just the ability for this team to play within the style that we’ve wanted this this team to play in in the last few seasons and they just haven’t had the horses to be able to do it. But now they’re they’re playing a a style that allows you to be aggressive. Uh that allows you to, you know, really attack a team with speed. Um you you have enough guys that come in with skill and and they’re all pulling in the same direction and they’re all getting the messaging of this is the style of of of winning hockey that you need to have to be successful. You can’t just go out there and and and I think one of the one of the things that Blashel said, believe it was Blashel or Felina, forget which one. It’s been a lot of talking. Um but t talking about wanting to win. The team collectively has a mentality that above anything else, they want to win. Um this was Blashel. He was he was referring to Connor Paddar like he doesn’t necessarily care too much uh if he’s scoring or putting up points or anything like that. At the end of the day, he’s a competitor that cares about winning and that’s a mentality that, you know, goes across the board for this group and and there’s really not a what I would categorize and use the wording of is there’s not really a selfish mindset as Blashel said like he there’s not really anyone out on this team that cares about being a top scorer on a bad team. They want to win and I think we’re we’re seeing that come out in games like this where you know when that second period when they go down well they didn’t go down but when they give up three goals uh in in quick succession like that and you get the challenge and it doesn’t go your way last year’s team the year before that that 4-3 score changes to 44 to 54 to 64 for the Senators and you and and you lose a game that you are up four nothing. Like that’s that’s how this game would have gone over the last few years. And this group was able to kind of re things in, take a deep breath in that second intermission, come out and and have a, you know, a a refocused mindset uh going into the third period and come out with a win. Yeah. When was it that counter Dard said, “We want to win now.” It was after the St. Louis games. Yeah. Like we’re not interested. Yeah. We’re not we’re not interested in uh you know threeyear waiting period. Yeah. They’re ready. They’re ready to go. And I I think you do have this team has been built with and it got to the point where we would kind of joke about it where like Kyle Davidson sure has a type. He does fast and competitive. Like those are the guys he drafts. And when you have guys that might be one of the two of those, they spend eight months trying to move that player and then they move him to Vancouver and right like that’s it. So it’s not just about skill, it’s not just about speed. Davidson has built a roster of players that play with intensity and play with jam and play with some confidence. And that’s if you look at this team top to bottom, no matter what you think of Ryan Green’s future or Sam Laferdy’s role on the team, Sam Lafery played tonight for the first time in what, like two weeks, and was the Sam Lafery we remember. Playing fast, playing physical, didn’t play a ton, but was effective when he was out there. Like he was noticeable. These guys all play that way. They all play that way. And well, you have to on this team or you’re not going to play, right? Well, I mean, that’s the other thing, too, is they know that number 11 and number 76 are waiting down in Rockford and they’re tearing it up down there. Yeah, that’s Oliver Moore and Nicholard for that don’t know, right? Like those guys are knocking on a door already sooner than expected. They’re both having what Frank Nazar had last year and that was what Nazar came up December. Yeah, mid December early. It was right after Luke Richardson got fired. Yeah. Yeah. It was like the middle of December. Nazar came up. December 14th or somewhere around there. They know like when they get their opportunities when Sam Lafy I knew when Sam Lava got in the lineup tonight he was going to be noticeable. He was going to be physical. He better have been that’s like you you’ve been waiting. But see like you to me on this team even the games that have gotten away from them or the games they’ve lost. I’ve never said like they were just checked out. They just weren’t, you know, they weren’t in it. They lost interest. They stopped trying. There’s going to be nights where they’re outtalented significantly. Yeah. But I don’t think there’s going to be many nights. Of course, there’s always going to be outliers where it’s just like h it was one of those nights travel was weird or the vibes are off, whatever it might be. You’ll get the second of a backtoback. Yeah. But to me, the effort is never going to be an issue with this particular roster. No, I hope not. Um, I did want to mention Daniel uh in the chat was was saying um great use of the timeout by uh by Blash and he talked about the messaging in that in that timeout. Not only was it used to try and get the um the offside review, give it a little bit of extra time to take a look at it, which he did say after taking more of a close look at it, he probably wouldn’t challenge that one again, contrary to what he did say after the um goalender interference call. But in the timeout, he said specifically that he had to remind the team like, “Hey guys, we’re still winning.” Like when you get on a run like that, when you’re on the wrong side of a team going on a run like that, you give up three goals, it feels like you’re losing, but you’re still up 4-3. You still had to have the mentality of the team that got the first four goals. And I think that that was probably something that um was heard and and and translated through the rest of that period because it did from that point forward stop the bleeding and then you go into the third period and and and you retake control of the game. So um again it just it’s it’s the messaging, the belief and belief from results. Like the way this team has played, they’ve bought in. They’ve gotten results. And I I think that’s the the the belief that you have to keep having night in and night out that you’re not out of those games, that you’re not out of any situation. We are taking this show to overtime if you didn’t notice already. So if you were watching us on a fast channel, find us on all.com or YouTube. Um yeah, I mean it it’s I don’t know, man. It it just feels so different and I don’t know. Maybe there was something to some bad eggs in that room last year. I I don’t know. But there’s just something different. And I don’t know if it’s just the kids, you know, really emerging into their roles now that there’s just more of them. they feel more empowered to be themselves because we’re in the, you know, one of the one or two of the three of us are in a locker room every day for practice and the loudest voices and the biggest personalities are now, you know, Bard and Doc and like those guys are really they’ve kind of like taken over the room a little bit where in years past they kind of would sit back and just kind of try to blend in. I don’t know what has empowered that growth aside from maybe the strength and numbers now. Um, but it just has that feeling of man like this is a very different team than it was just months ago. I think it’s a it’s it’s a maturity level. like a lot of a lot of those guys that came up, you know, over the last two seasons had short stints in in the NHL be before going back and forth with Rockford or, you know, didn’t make their jump to the NHL until late last season. I think it’s just a maturity in those guys to be be ready for for this this moment and this this opportunity to be in the NHL. And, you know, Connor Redard was thrown into it at 18 years old. He’s a different player at 20 than he was at 18. And and a lot of these guys, you know, Frank Nazar is still young at 21. You know, uh Sam Renzel is 21. Artum Levoff, happy birthday. You’re now 20. You’re no longer a teenager. Like the maturity of these guys plays a big factor in it. And and you look back at some of the veterans that they had around the groups uh over the last two seasons. I know you guys were talking a little bit about Taylor Hall, uh, who was here, but you have, you know, a guy like Andre Burkovsky that’s here, table that’s here now, you had Pat Maroon last year. Um, and honestly, like I I know that when he when he was signed, uh, it was a little I think we all kind of felt a little iffy about it. Tyler Bertusi has an incredible impact on this team both on and off the ice. Jeff Blashel today in uh after the morning skate, you know, talked about Frank Nazar’s positive attitude and and what he brings to the group. And also right alongside Frank Nazar mentioned Tyler Bertusi being a guy that brings a lot of positivity, energy, and and good vibes to the to the group. And you know, you see the impact he has on the ice, you know, when you don’t have him versus when you do have them in a game like tonight. And um I think you just have the right mix of of veterans now and you have a lot of young guys that took a step in maturity both on and off the ice and it’s it’s it’s jelling at the right time to be to begin this season. It’s great to see. Um Mario, we’re going to let you go early because we have like 7 million super chats to get to. Um so drive safe and it’s already almost midnight and we have good news. No practice tomorrow. No practice. That was that was actually the biggest thing from Jeff Blashel’s press conference is that he he spilled the beans early that there would be no practice. See, Mark Lazarus called him out on it question. Yeah, he got questioned and he was like, “All right, Glad like I’m not complaining.” But but I’m kind of complaining. Yeah. All right. But what the hell, man? Yeah. Uh, thanks, Mario. We will talk to you tomorrow at 2:30 for the live show. Sounds good. See you then. All right. That’s Mario Tierbosi from the UC. Follow him on Twitter at Mario Tierbosi. All right, we got to get to these super chats. We are going to try to rip through them. 20 bucks from Joker’s performance says, “Thanks to this program in keeping a perspective to the game of hockey during this rebuild. Insider info you guys bring is great and much appreciated.” Thank you, Joker’s performance. We appreciate the super chat very much. Uh Mike Hyman for two bucks says over under 17 and a half wins after 41 games. What do they have? Five. Over. Uh the ghost of Mario has returned to chime in. Uh they have five right now in 10 G. Yeah. I mean they got to win 13 games in the next 31. I’ll take the over. I like that. That’s a good number though. That’s a good number. I will take the over two but slightly. Uh Marcus, sorry. Go ahead, Sarah. Uh Marcus for two bucks says Crevier making it hard not to keep him. Uh agree with that. I just think might be a numbers game for him down the road, but we’ll we’ll get to that when the time comes. Cat Klene with a $20 super chat says, “Let’s break down all three of hattick goals because why wouldn’t we do that?” And then Cat Klein sent another $10. So yeah, we talked about the So the power play goal is the incredible setup from Burkovski cross ice from the goal line to the faceoff dot. One side to the other, but Dar doesn’t really one time it but just kind of quickly tees it up, settles it down and and rips it. The second goal skates right through the middle of the Ottawa Senators tow drags it through the legs of the defender. Uh Lena had no chance. Yeah, that was like a that was like a junior goal. Like the goals that we would see in the summer 2023 and be like, “Oh my god, this is going to be so good.” That was one of those goals. Yes. And then the third one, uh, Ryan Green wins the faceoff clean as he is want to do and Bard just teased it up top shelf. Uh, Mark never saw it. Think it was designed play off a faceoff. Winning a faceoff in the offensive zone led to two of the three Bard goals. Yeah. Yep. It’s important, but that’s I mean this is the kind of game that I really think, you know, can catapult Connor. Not that he, you know, he’s never has lacked in confidence, but like you you have we have seen the frustration from him. We have seen that like, man, why am I not scoring? Like I’m used to scoring. Uh hopefully this propels him in right in time for a really good opponent on Thursday. Absolutely. Uh Chill Dog, five bucks. Uh more wins. Seems like more viewers for Jay, Mario, and Greg who keep us active, educated, and entertained. Happy for you guys and for Hawks fans. Yeah, the when the Hawks win, the numbers are huge. And I think Sarah can vouch for this. I think she’s done almost all of our post games this year after wins. Most of them. We are like between seven and 900 start to finish. Oh, after wins. Like it’s very much so. Yeah. Like it is huge. And and this is what you know, we’re trying to relay this to our management here and I think they’re starting to figure it out. Not here. So, not so much here, but like the big company that the Hawks are about to be they’re about to take over this town again in a year or two. They’re going to be huge. The bandwagon is going to get full again and we’re going to be the one place people can rely on to be here. 82 games. Maybe they’ll and playoffs. Maybe they’ll sell some group tickets by then. Yeah, we’ve had some sparse crowds. I don’t know. Take I mean, you know what though? Take advantage of that now. Like go on game time. There there are a lot like I Ben Pope usually does the attendance. It was under 16,000. The smallest crowd of the year this year. That’s crazy. Um I mean I know the Senators aren’t a huge draw, especially without Brad. That that will change. That will change. Yeah. Get them while you can. There won’t be many of these smallalish crowds uh much longer. Maybe maybe because they had so many games to start the year or two at home. Six of the first 10 were at home. Now they’re going on the road for a couple weeks. So maybe, you know, how can I miss you if you never go away? That that sort of thing. So hopefully it’s a full house when they come back here in a few days. Uh Eris Mix five bucks says, “Just want to apologize for my super chat the other night about how Connor needs to start taking over games. I guess I forgot for a minute that he is him.” Don’t apologize because Connor read that and said, “I’ll show you, buddy.” No, but it was also it was also something that we have been waiting to see. We’ve been waiting to if you would the the day he’s drafted in 2023, if you said to me, how many games will it take Conor Bard to have a hattick? I would not think it would take a year three for Conor Bard to have a hattick. You wouldn’t. Yeah. So, I think that that was a that’s a valid thought. And I think when you do see some of the people who are like he’s a bust, he’s overhyped, whatever. That’s what they’re talking about is there have not been a lot of these three goal four-point nights from him. There will be many more to come. I promise you that. 10 bucks from Aaron says the counterard show aside. I can’t figure out why this team struggles in the second period. Could it be as simple as the team doesn’t adjust well to the long change? I cannot think of anything else. I think one thing we’ve seen is they have a really strong start to the game when they have these second period fall aparts, right? Like they were taking it to Vancouver. They were t like they at one point can’t fall apart in a second period if you don’t play a really good first. But like Yeah, but so it’s just like I think they just let down a little bit. I think they feel like, “Oh, we’ve got this.” And then I think today I think it was really in their minds like, “Okay, we got a nice lead, right? But they’re on the second night of backto-backs and we’ve had bad luck with this and they were maybe a little bit nervous about it happening again and inevitably it happened again.” Yeah. Because we all asked everybody about it for the last three days. Exactly. So, you know, Yeah. Um, but being able to get out of that second period with the lead and then taking it to them in the third period, uh, you know, learning from mistakes and and not creating bad habits is is the goal by the co by the coaching staff and it looks like they they learned it here. By the way, uh, with his hat-tick tonight, Connor Bard on pace for 49 goal season. Okay, that will do. Uh, 12 points in 10 games too over the point per game mark. Uh 2121 uh says, “Hey, so how the f was that delayed penalty, empty net or not a good goal? We never had possession evidenced by the fact that the play wasn’t blown dead. It was touched by a Hawk last. It was it tipped off of Yeah. Colton Doc whacked it out of the zone. So that that was the right call. That was the right call. Yeah. Technically didn’t get possession to blow it dead, but also you Yeah. that just you can’t you can’t be touched by uh a a player on the team getting the penalty, right, to go in the net. Well, that would have been fun. I mean, that would have been like, oh, okay, we probably don’t have that, you know, three-goal comeback if that’s what happens, right? Uh Kyle for five bucks Canadian says, “Bedsy Hattie messed up my Bedsy Hattie and hockey ultimate team while I was on a breakaway, but so worth it.” Yeah, you’ll take that exchange every time. Uh Daniel with $5 says, “Johel Merson brought some good luck to the UC tonight. The originator of the hattick always do it best. PSier needs some more love.” Yeah, great to see Nicholas Jmerson tonight uh in the house and he was on the call for the third period a little bit, which is cool to hear. He looks like he could still uh when he walked in the practice this morning, he had a big like almost looked like a gear bag. Had the Blackhawks logo. I was like, he’s playing tonight. He’s playing. He’s in. Eight defenseman Jinx. Eight defenseman, 10 forwards. We’re gonna get him 12 minutes. Actually, if it’s Jaw Merson, you just need one. Yeah. All right. Cam likes cheese. Well, me, too. Everybody likes cheese. Uh, five bucks says, “Great game management by Blash. Waiting until the last moment to take the timeout and then challenging the obvious offsides. Totally killed the Sun’s momentum.” Uh, yeah, by the way, uh, he did admit that that he was wrong on the review and said the refs got it right. So, okay. All right. He understands it better than we do, I guess. Oh, that’s a good thing. Uh, Labowski 5 says, uh, Ryan Green looks like a 10year vet and he is a kid. Yeah, Ryan Green looks is a very mature player. Not sure what the uh ceiling is for him, but we don’t need to know that yet. Let’s just enjoy what we have right now. He wasn’t even supposed to uh he’s not even supposed to be here today. Yeah, I was surprised he made the team out of camp. He well he he was uh who got hurt that that first game that he he got he was he was yeah he was sent down and then recalled because Slagger wasn’t good to go. So and Slagger uh by the way scratched today. Uh that so that’s a what these kids have to do when you get your call up and you get your chance make it to where they can’t send you back and that’s what Ryan Green has done. Uh Prison Mike loves RC Cola. Love that. Uh, five bucks says, “Was that the game? This team is so damn fun. Happy you have electric electrifying hockey back. Going home for a cold RC cola zero, my friends.” That we appreciate that prison, Mike. Thank you very much. The home is not prison. Yeah. Well, they have RC in prison. Makes it liveable. Uh, and one more from Ryan PC. Five bucks says, “Any chance Greg comes back full-time?” That’s the hope. That is the hope. That is the dream. Uh, more uh more super chats will make that happen. Um, Do do we we is there a chance? Yes, I think there is a chance if everything goes Yeah, we’re hoping so. Like Yeah, there here’s what here’s what I think is a fair thing to say. Everybody in this building is doing everything they can to make that happen. Yes, bosses included. So, yes, uh there there there is a path to that happening and hopefully we can get down that path and uh sooner rather than later. Otherwise, just keep doing what I do. An $80,000 super chat would really help. I app I appreciate it. What? Take a pay cut. Uh no. And I appreciate it. I appreciate the uh the love. Uh when I when I do pop in here, you know, this place always feels like home. Not only because of everybody here, but because of you guys out there as well. So, I I appreciate uh you know, it’s been a weird year. Yeah. Um but no matter where I pop up, you guys are there to support me, and that makes it all worthwhile there. For those who don’t know, plug away, my friend. Let them know where to find your your work. You could check out blackhawkup.com for all the written work. Uh I’ll have a postgame musings up later. We do the daily morning chirps in the morning that keep you little quick hits of all the Blackhawks and NHL news. Get that every morning. Uh and all that stuff over there. And then also doing the uh the second balcony podcast with my pal Frank Nova. That’s about a once a week thing. I love that podcast. We don’t have uh I mean this in the best way. It is great to fall asleep, too. Hey, whatever works. Um the dulatones of a fork. Yes. And a great But yeah, we we’re having fun doing that. And uh so check that out on YouTube, too. Second balcony. Subscribe and like and all that stuff. If only to hear the old stadium organ. Yeah. I mean, it’s it’s good stuff. It starts off with an organ uh you know, from the old Chicago stadium and then it’s all downhill after that. Nah, but uh good podcast. Yes, if you uh if you like a couple of gray beards spending half the podcast going remember when it’s a great podcast for you. Plus we have uh our new favorite bit the where we uh do some cranking of the hogs. So uh yes we crank our hogs on the internet. You wouldn’t be the first. And big news, by the way, Holly in the chat. Next home game, Holly will be here. Yeah, look, we got to figure out when Holly is coming here. I mean, to the studio after both games, right? She better be. She’s getting a chair here, Sarah. We can do that, right? Yeah, we can put Holly on the post game. Absolutely. She can take my spot for those two games. No, let’s make it. We’d go overtime for sure if she was here. We could do what? We’d go overtime for sure. Overtime. Yes. Okay. I thought I heard something else and it’s not um we also have a $5 super chat um from Hegod. Sure. He stud. That sounds right. Um we want Greg back. Thank you for the $5. And then one last uh 1999 super chat from Tim saying, “Keep up the keep the great content coming.” Well, we will now, Tim. Thank you. Yeah, thanks Tim. And keep that beard manicured. Every time I see his photo, I’m like, man, that beard is wellmaintained. Good job, Tim. All right, that was a long show. 77 minutes of hotness. Hit that like button if you’ve not done it yet. We will talk to you tomorrow at 2:30 as we bask in the glow of this win before the Hawks hit the road. Talk to you then. Thanks for being here. This is a CHGL Blackhawks podcast presented by Bet 365. [Music] [Applause] We all sitting like the mayor.

Best post game on CHGO
Berries and Dach were both great tonight
Fun fact: Louie is currently our top scoring Defenseman. 😊
Hard pass on more Greg
Bedard went from 77th in scoring to 24th.
IMO, Reichel leapfrogged by Lardis. Slaggert or Dach will also be leapfrogged by a prospect like Spellacy. And 2/3 years down road they cycle will continue. The hope is Frondell will leapfrog a vet like Burakovsky. Rinzel over Jones. Lev over Murphy. Greene over Dickenson. Moore over Mikeyev Lardis over Donato. The real rebuild is having drafted prospects take Top 9 and Top 4 positions at NHL level. So far IMO, the Blackhawks have managed 2 Top 9, 2 Top 4 D, and a Top Goalie. Reichel unfortunately didnt show enough and was recycled. Its gonna happen again, and again. Future is bright with the ton of “replacements” we have on the way in near future. Not all will stick, which is why we still NEED some vets and a couple top All-Star type FA. But some prospects will. Keep rebuild mode on.
Commit to the Indian.
This is why Bedard is a generational talent. All he needed was players to get him the puck and shoot more. How many times do we have to hear criticism or calling Bedard a bust fans complaining that he’s not generational. He responded right after that disappointing loss to the Kings. He puts up 4 points and a hat trick and a lot quicker than Kane’s first hat trick. If Bedard plays well the team plays well and if they fix their 2nd period issues then we they can play a full 60 minutes consistently. This team has learned to adjust when things go wrong and Bedard took control and the team followed through and we got a needed time out from a coach who knows how to handle a young team. Hawks will be just fine. I have full faith in the rebuild. There is absolutely going to be issues but at least they are mature enough to find ways to get back on track.
I know it’s just the beginning of the season so i wont get my hopes too high, but so far it feels damn good especially because of how miserable last season was
Bedard scores 50th goal, Donato , his 100th point as a Blackhawk.
Bedard is good, but I am not concerned that he becomes the leading scorer in the league some day. I'd rather we have 10 above average forwards with a couple game breakers sprinkled in. Stats are nice, but performing when it counts is what it is about. Hope they surprise us and stay in contention for a wild card spot this year. It would do wonders to feed the hunger for the subsequent years. And each spring we add 2 or 3 new players with high expectations, the more fuel for the fire will be stoked for the next season, just as it was last spring and now this season.
Good point about number 28 having a good game. He is a good stick handler in close quarters and I think Bedard is excited to play with him.
I love the demeanor of our coach. Not too high and not too low. A perfect example for the players. I feel like we are watching a cake being mixed and stirred together and once done baking, something wonderful is going to result. Go Hawks!
Blashill deserves a ton of credit 👏
We want Greg back !!!
Lions are more muscular than tigers
I think levshunov should develop in the AHL imo
By the end of this yr..Bedard will have more goals by a player under 21 than ANYONE in Blackhawks history…even Eddie O., Kane or Toews..
PS…put Sarah in a chair too…maybe with Holly
Conner is in fact a generational talent.
Trade the vets
This was just a game when things went Bedard's way, I don't see any difference in his effort in this game compared with the others. He's developed so well during the offseason and is now a more complete NHL player. Chicago is looking like a more complete NHL team again. Man we've gotten through a tough stretch of rebuilding and development but it feels safe to say we've gotten through the toughest part about it now and it's so good to see! Let's go Hawks!!!
Brand new Blackhawk fan here (been away from hockey for 30 years, or so). This is a fun team to watch, and I'm looking forward to following them on the way up.
The tickets are insanely over priced.
Blackhawks are killing it this season Bedard and Donato, with Vlasic are dominating
Frank Nazar is clutch as well…….let's go Hawks hockey 🏒
Having Bert back was noticeable and bert would have been great against the kings
I cancelled the renewal of my diehard membership the day Greg and others were let go and the only way All City is getting another dollar of mine is if Greg is brought back. On a similar note second balcony has quickly become my second favorite Blackhawks podcast and if it was a daily podcast could easily be my go to.
Hawks are so back
