[PPGT] Après Ski | Avs vs Devils | The Thats A Response Edition

  1. Ah yes, as we all expected, Jack Ahcan and Malinski coming out on top for our defense, while Toews and Makar are defensive liabilities.

  2. I very much appreciate that you keep this going every game, it’s a part of my reading routine now. Seriously.

  3. The Wedgewood regression to the mean appears to have arrived. Also is it just me or has Toews been struggling this year?

  4. I like that our PP finally did something and that we scored 8. I don’t like that we had a semi break down in period 2 and allowed 4 in like 5 minutes.

  5. PP was great last night finally. They stopped trying to force a pass to the slot. The avs also doubled their PP goals for the season. Went from 4 PP goals to 8. They’re now 23rd on the PP at 17.8%. Not a fan of those 4 minutes in the 2nd, but they turned it back on afterwards.

Nice to see the whole team contribute and hopefully get some more confidence for the bottom 6.

Glad Blackwood is back and that Wedgie can get some rest now.

  6. I didn’t realize the league changed the rules this season so you’re actually allowed to score on the power play instead of just passing it around and re-energizing for two minutes.

Not sure that’s entirely fair though… the other team literally has a player (or two) less!

But hey, if it works in favor of my team, I’m not complaining.

  7. Bad: You can’t under any circumstance let 4 goals in 4 minutes, that’s just not a thing that should happen ever in any situation. Especially letting a team back into a game you lead 5-0. I don’t know what happened to our defense during that time but it was beyond ugly.

Good: Everything else. Yes, even the powerplay!

  8. Small Jack has been impressive (cause he’s small lol). Seems like he will be a great defensive minded fast player like Sammy which is great. I liked Solo but he was a bit of a liability and I think Jack balances out the defense a little better.

  9. It was the Victor Olofsson show last night- he’s up to 10 points in 11 games. If he continues to produce anywhere near this level the Avs are going to be very pleased. Small sample size, but color me pleasantly surprised.

  10. Having Nichushkin and Olofsson up on the top power play unit has made such a difference. The optics (and the results) were really, really good last night. Good things happen for you when you put the puck on the net!
