🚨 MAJOR Dallas Cowboys News On George Pickens Contract Talks & Trade Rumors + Myles Garrett Trade?
[Music] Welcome back into the Cowboys report. I am Tom Downey. We are debunking some things today. We will discuss the latest on George Pickkins, the updates of no contract talks and the trade, I’m not even calling them rumors, they’re ideas, suggestions that simply will not go away. We will also discuss, not even really rumors, Miles Garrett trade because some national media types again and fan bases across the NFL are pushing that one. Before we get into today’s show, if you have people that seem confused by anything involving George Pickkins, this breaks it down pretty clearly and why honestly I am not mad at the Cowboys and we should not be freaking out about anything as it relates to GP3. Right now, let’s get into the George picking stuff. Ed Warner has reported the Cowboys and George Pickins’s camp have not had contract talks at this time. This is what Ed tweeted out yesterday. With a week remaining before the NFL trade deadline, the Cowboys have not engaged in contract extension talks with George Pickkins or his reps. Pickkins is on expiring contract. The franchise tag player is an option that would cost a projected $28 million. The Cowboys not having any extension talks with George Pickkins before the deadline actually shouldn’t come as a surprise when both sides were completely on board and agreed to waiting until after the season when the trade was made. Dallas’s side wanted to see how George Pickkins fit in with his new team. How does he behave after all the previous issues in Pittsburgh? Pickings camp wanted to see if he could have a breakout campaign with by far the best quarterback he has ever played with. And guess what? The breakouts happened. He has been awesome with the Dallas Cowboys. 685 yards. He is on pace to shatter his production this upcoming season. Already has more touchdowns than he had uh in previously with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pickkins has been nothing short of everything the Cowboys wanted and more. Now, the Cowboys have already done work on trying to fit Pickkins into their future cap outlook, as we’ll get into later. That’s actually extremely easy and doable for the Dallas Cowboys. That’s what they should be doing is planning ahead after both sides, you know, agree to let’s not worry about an extension right now. Other teams have done this, by the way. The Lions have h have two highly paid wide receivers and a highly paid quarterback. The Dolphins, the Bengals. Oh, and the team that just won the freaking Super Bowl have it. The Cowboys haven’t actually done anything wrong yet, at least with George Pickkins. I have zero complaints about how they’ve handled this. I am not upset. I am willing to be patient. Now, if we get to, you know, the off season and they do the nonsense, drag it out into August, different conversation. But right now, I am unbothered. Do you want to pay George Pickins? Why for yes, N for no? Let me know in the comments section. The pin comment actually of today’s show. Let’s get into the trade side of things here. Tim Kawashaw arguing the Cowboys have to trade George Pickkins before the 2025 NFL trade deadline. And to be clear, no, they don’t. It’s actually not true. I I know some of his uh colleagues at Dallas Morning News were like, “Hot take, but it’s perfectly laid out.” It’s actually not, frankly. The main arguments from this piece, and we’ll do some quotes, and I’ll dispute a bunch of this stuff. Cap space and cost issues. The defense needs helps, which obviously is true. They have other wide receivers. Also a really weird take on the trade value. Um there was frankly a lot of I don’t know if it was ignorant or outright deceptive arguments made in this piece. We’ll break them all down for you on today’s show and explain why. No, the Cowboys can actually easily do this. Now today’s show is made possible by ethos. Links in the comments and the description of today’s show. Here’s the first argument laid out by Tim Kawashaw. In 2026, Dak Presc $74 million salary cap number. Lamb carries 38.6. Javvantee is making a whopping $3 million this year and is deserving of at least a running back wage. But you want to add a 28 million uh more for another receiver, even a really good one. Yes, I do. Actually, I do want to give that because this works on offense. And more importantly, because K also argues Pickkins is great and the offense is good. The numbers used here paint a false picture. And I I know that not everyone is going to be familiar with Sour C. That’s fine. Let me be extremely clear here. Anyone who says the Cowboys cannot afford George Pickkins is either lying or they just don’t know. And if you just don’t know cuz you’re a a normal fan with a life and a job, that’s fine. I do think your media members and journalists should understand how the salary cap works or at least try to understand. So, let’s break this down for you, Timmy. The current projected cap space per spo track, and I use spo track for this one and not over the cap because spot track is projecting what the uh rollover money is going to be. The rollover money is probably going to drop a little bit, could drop down to 30. You make a trade, whatever. But that’s the current projected number there. These are the simple moves the Cowboys can make that are actually built into the contracts. The Cowboys have zero intention of having a $74 million number for Dak Prescott. Has never been the plan. When they do the planned restructure, the Eagles build their restructures in in advance. The Cowboys do it by year. There’s actually no difference. It’s it’s six of one, half a dozen of the other. The Cowboys will save almost $31 million by restructuring Dak Prescott. They will restructure CD Lamb to save $19 million. So all of a sudden I just freed up damn near $50 million from the Kashaw number. OSA restructure saves 12. Tyler Smith saves 17 and change. Don Bland saves almost nine. Jake Ferguson saves almost five. You can cut Terrence Steel save eight or 14. Or not. You need a right tackle if you cut him. You cut Trayvon Digs save 12.5. You can either restructure or maybe you cut Kenny Clark at 12.5. You cut me H C H C H C H C H C H C H C H C H C H Cooker. That’s $7 million. Now, I would potentially create holes at right tackle, and you’re going to need a corner anyway, safety and defensive tackle, whatever. And the exact number is, we’ll see based on what moves they do, what the exact rollover ends up being, etc. But we are comfortably in the $100 million to maybe even $150 million range in offseason salary cap. So when Tim writes that whether it’s via offseason trade or free agency signing, the Cowboys have to move civic and salary cap dollars to the defensive side of the ball for 2026 or we’re watching the same sad movie again. He’s right, but I already have that available to me. I have the funds. I have the money. I have the draft picks. I don’t need to rob Peter to pay Paul. I don’t have to do that. In fact, I shouldn’t do that because all I’m doing is then taking away the thing that works. This offense is good. It is clicking. It is on fire right now. Overall, they didn’t have a good game against Denver. You know, it’s tough to have a perfect game when you don’t have anything defense, but I have the ability in the off season to go change that. I and and still keep George Pickkins. So, if you ran the Cowboys, what would you do with George Pickkins? Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. T for trade, P for pay. This is also what Tim Kawashaw wrote with Lambback assuming a return to life for Jake Ferguson after Sunday’s no-show. The Cowboys have adequate supporting receivers in Jaylen Tolbert, Gavvonte Turpin, and Ryan Floy. Mind you, I said adequate, not good, and not really good like Pickkins. Do we all have brain damage? Like, we just spent an entire off season arguing, hey, you have to go get a new wide receiver, too. We don’t want to ride with Tolbert Pickkins or Tolbert Turpin and Fenoy. And now we’re like, “Oh, actually, we can do it again. It’s fine.” Do we not learn our lessons, guys? Like, honestly, Tolbert’s a free agent. He’s not going to be back next year. Jonathan Mingo can’t get active yet. Ryan Fenoy has shown some promise, but like, do we want to go into the year with him as the wide receiver, too? Turpin has the drop sees again. Like I you need a wide receiver, too. So, let’s say I get a draft pick back for pickings. I got to go use it on a freaking receiver. It doesn’t actually do anything for me. So, what draft pick would you accept in exchange for George Baines? I think everybody has their price. And if the Giants were like, maybe that’s the Giants. I don’t know if I would do it in a first round pick, but like a top 10 team goes, you know, Tennessee says we we need a receiver. How about our first round pick? Yeah, I’d actually probably do at that point. Like at that point, yeah, you blew me away. I don’t think that’s going to happen, but everyone has their price. Apparently, Tim Kawashaw’s price is literally anything. He wrote, “It would be great if Dallas could recoup the third round pick at Delta to the Steelers, but it’s not a given. It’s basically a halfyear rental. Can’t worry about whether you got whether or not you get they get what they matches what give.” Wow. Let me try that again. Can’t worry about whether or not what they get matches up with what they gave. This honestly might be the dumbest part of the entire article. There’s a lot of ignorant parts. This the salary cap part might be ignorance. It’s fine. You should you’re a professional. You should know this is just stupidity. How on earth are we arguing? Well, let’s just take bad trade value because trade value if you’re doing it should be high because he’s been awesome. Like this idea of we just got to take whatever we can get. We’re poor. Why? How does that make any sense at all? Now, we will call out things when we need to call them out. We are on the road to a quarter million subs here on the Cowboys report. Hit that sub button if you haven’t already. Free Cowboys videos each and every single day. I also want to address the Miles Garrett stuff here. And some media outlets, I saw Albert Brier saying the Browns should trade him away. Other fan bases, including our own, have been like, “Well, why not trade for him?” I’ve seen blogs, maybe I’ll put it that way, written on it. Look, the Browns might be bad. I get that. And Garrett might be sad over losing, but he took the money. A Miles Garrett trade would result in $89 million plus in dead money with $67.89 and change coming in 2026. That dead money cap hit would be the largest ever in the NFL and nearly three times what the Browns are currently to pay Miles Garrett on the salary cap. It doesn’t make sense. I don’t feel bad for Miles Garrett. I I’m He wants to be frustrated. That’s fine. Have energy, you know. You know, it’s it’s an emotional game, whatever. But like he should not be traded. The Brown He opted into this. He chose it. It does not make sense for the Browns to trade him unless they’re getting blown away by like a five first round pick godfather offer, which no one’s going to do. [Music]

Cowboys news via Ed Werder, who reported the Cowboys and George Pickens camp have NOT had contract talks. Cowboys Report host Tom Downey explains why this actually should be expected when both sides were on board waiting until after the season. The Cowboys wanted to see how George Pickens fit with his new team and behaved after previous issues. The Pickens camp wanted to see if he could have a breakout campaign with a good QB. The Cowboys have already done work on trying to fit Pickens into their future cap outlook. The Dallas Cowboys haven’t actually done anything wrong (yet) with George Pickens!
Dallas Morning News’ Tim Cowlishaw has argued the Cowboys MUST complete a George Pickens trade before the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline, even if they don’t get a 3rd round pick back for him. Cowboys Report Host Tom Downey explains why, no, this is not a good idea or even needed!

Myles Garrett trade rumors are somehow back, as national media and fans have advocated for the Browns to trade the superstar EDGE rusher. The Browns might be mad and Garrett might be sad over losing, but he took the money! UPDATE after filming: Spotrac and Over The Cap have adjusted their numbers for a Myles Garrett trade. The Browns still lose a ton of cap space, but it’s a few million shy of the record after all.

Do you want to pay George Pickens? Type ‘Y’ for Yes, ‘N’ for No
Pay Pickens!
Y-YES, Sign him
SB teams are balanced on offense and defense. Jerry and others sell it both ways to get more views. It is not smart to sign Pickens and ignore your D issues. They could trade Pickens if the offer is worth it. There is no way this is an SB team without fixing the D. If you could trade Pickens for a 1st rd pick, do it, or get more D help like an LB or Corner equivalent to a 1st rd pick. Cut Diggs, he was sitting on his ass in the off-season. Diggs playing the victim card is a POS move when he should have been with the team rehabbing. The team should tank. The season is over at this point. Even if they make the playoffs, they can't do crap. Dak can't play in big games. Dak is allergic to big games instead of shining like MyHomie. Pack it in, fans. Do something better with your time. This crap show is just a tease.
Trading GP is as dumb as Jerry Jones thinking that the cowboys are a contender
Keep Pickens! The trio of Dak, CeeDee, and Pickens gives the Cowboys one proven superpower. Build your defense with the extra draft picks and get a new DC and you’ll be a lot better in 2026.
Cowlishaw is crazy.
Pickens done said no contract talks until after the season
Bigger question.. Why would Pickens want to sign with the Cowboys when he will have plenty of suitors next season?
Bring Myles Garrett home to Texas and build D around him.
Keep pickens at all costs you hairbrained joneses!
I’m sick of everyone in media looking to make our offense worse by trading away GP.

Hell yeah but he's not gonna want to stay with a horrible team hopefully Overshown & Revel can help Bail out our shitty DC after another blowout I was oh well good news is he'll be gone for sure now but I forgot Jones is a moron
I hope this organization is not dumb enough to not sign and keep Pickens , but then again we have (Jerry Jones)
P
1st round pick or a high second round pick.
Why why pay him yes
superbowl team when we redo our defense
Y
I read Cowlishaw's article and couldn't believe it. It was a terrible article and you were right to call him out. What I do wonder is if one of the contending teams with late first-round picks would give one up? I say that because I am nervous the Jones boys will tag him and he will miss all training camp. Remember the Dez Bryant fiasco?
Cowboys would be dumb to trade Pickens
Let's do this
I promise you they going to pay GP
Calishaw is trying to get click bait or trying to sabbotage the cowboys with suggesting a trade of pickens picks do not always pan out including 1st round be happy we finally have 2 superior WRs with a very GoodQB in years
Y
Next 2 are must wins if we even want an inkling of a chance to make the playoffs. We need to steal 2 as well for losing to Chicago and Carolina
Very least, I'd even consider pickens trade is a bottom 10 record teams' first rounder. Even then, I'm not too happy with it. I personally love GP and it would prob take 1st and then some to even start considering, but I love pickens. I'm a lifelong cowboys fan from and currently still in Pittsburgh and the Day Tomlin and rooneys Sorry Azz's traded GP to dallas. I was absolutely ecstatic!! LOVE ME SOME GP!!DC4L
Sign Pickens and still draft a WR like maybe in the second or third but only if you trade back for more draft picks in the first.
Do not trade him please trade Jalen token
Keep Pickens build the defense with the draft
I’m with you 💯 percent on this take !! Tim cowilshaw is more senile then Jerry jones !!!
