VJ Edgecombe & Tyrese Maxey join the Inside Guys for an interview | Inside the NBA

So, um, again, attempting to get us back to something resembling basketball. Best record in the East belongs to the Philadelphia 76ers at 4-0. Uh, Tyrese, I’m glad we can entertain you and and VJ Edgecomb, the rookie. Uh, guys, what a great start to the year. Uh, four games, four wins. Three of them come from behind wins when you were down by double digits including last night down 19 down 13 with five minutes to go in Washington. How you guys getting this done? You go first, VJ. Man, um we got a squad. I just think we got squad and we bought in like that’s the main thing. We all bought in and we believe we can win every game if we ask us. Tyrese, how are you bringing this uh this rookie along? what’s the what kind of influence do you want to uh put on him to to make it easy? Uh I think the biggest thing that I’ve just trying to show them like every game is different. Every night is going to be different. Uh it’s going to be ups and downs. Um that’s kind of what I learned. I’m still extremely young but like you know I was you know a rookie under Doc and I had all those different vets. So that’s kind of the thing that I’ve been trying to to you know push towards them. But the biggest thing is just the work. The work that you got to put in uh to be good in this league. You gota it’s it’s a constant effort every single night. So, you know, I love the fact that you guys are playing well, but it seems that you guys are really looking for each other. Did you have a conversation like in preseason like, “Hey, with the big fella out, I’m going to be looking for you. I like what I saw in preseason. So, I’m going definitely be looking for I mean, that’s the most impressive thing about you guys start. You’re definitely looking for each other.” I mean, I think the biggest thing is like we got multiple guards that can do multiple different things. Like Jared ain’t even came back and started playing yet, but like Q dot, we know what he can do. Uh PG get back. Uh VJ, and then you know, Big Fella, there’s so many different interchangeable parts. Uh we have to share the ball with each other. That’s what VJ brought to the table. It’s funny. He been he been telling me he going to look for me, which is crazy. Like, you know what I’m saying? I was supposed to be the other way around, but like he’s been great. He done a lot of different things out there on the court. So, we appreciate having you. You know, my question is for you. You got paid and you earned it. Why don’t you buy the young guy a some stuff to put on this damn wall cuz you got all these nice ass paintings. He got just regular white walls. Come on, man. If you’re going to be a vet, lead by example, man. Buy that man something to put on the wall. Listen, let me tell you something. Thank you, Chuck. Number three pick. number three pick. He got Do you see that Adidas on his chest? Hey, I don’t They gonna make sure he high. I’m telling you. I’m telling you. Everything else I got him though. I got He know I got him. You know you know you got the behemian bad boy over there and you know I I got to see a little bit of both of you guys at a work out in the summertimes. How much alike are you two guys? Because when people used to ask me about BJ when I saw him in Li with his high school teams in Liu I believe uh Lehi rather I used to say he reminds me of Tyrese Maxi and now you guys are actually playing together. How much do you guys what do you see as similarities between the two of you guys? And both of you can answer that question. Boom. you got that Reese got that uh I think we just we have like a a competitive nature. That’s what I that’s what I realized about BJ from day one. Um it’s funny cuz the first the very first time I saw him I was like I told everybody the entire team. I said, “Listen, I’ll be at the gym at 6:00 in the morning. Anybody who want smoke play ones after we work out, show up.” And uh BJ was he was he was there and Tren Waffer was there. There was the only two players there. And uh that’s when I knew I was like, “Oh yeah, he he and he pushing me and going like trying to go at me and once.” That’s when I knew I was I went home and told my dad. I’m like, “Dad, like you gonna like this kid.” Like he he got something different mentality about him and he like to have fun. He like to work. That’s the biggest thing that that’s our similarities. At the end of the day, we competitors. We want to win. He beat me two spots also. I don’t like that. That’s cool. And and and la I know Chuck has another question as well, but you know with Tyrese, give everyone your workout because I I know what it is, but would you say what your summer workout looks like on a normal day? Yeah. Uh I mean, so for me, I get up early. I like to get my work in earlier. So I get up around 5ish. I got to feed my dogs. I got three dogs now. So I feed my dogs. I’m in the gym. First workout on the court around six. Uh, right after that, I go with my lift in and then I’m back on the court probably around 9:30, 10. And this summer, just because I felt like it was good for me, I added in Pilates uh three times a week. So, I did Pilates every uh Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I did high Pilates, and I also did solid core. So, that’s just what it looked like. And I was done by 12:00 by then. Now, I can get my treatment and do whatever I got to do for the rest of the day. But that’s what my my days look like every single day, you know, throughout the entire um the summer. You know, I started early this summer, sadly, because, you know, we we didn’t make the playoffs. But that was all the way up until the end to September. I just do that cuz I mean, at the end of the day, I want to be the best possible version of myself. You know, this this organization has blessed me with opportunity and u you know, I just don’t want to let him down. You know, obviously the big question is Gerald Embiid, I was asked that five times a day during the summer and I says, I just don’t know. How is this fitting in with you guys? Because obviously if y’all going to win the championship, Joel has got to be back to an all-star level. How is he doing mentally and how’s he doing physically? How it is? You got nothing to say? You want You want me? I got you. Uh um Joe Joe is a great person. Um he wants to be on the floor, you know. Uh from my perspective, I think he wants to be on the floor. Uh, I mean, he’s super good. Like you said, he going and I think he’s already at the Allstar level. Um, you know, even though he’s on 20 minutes. Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. He’s playing 20 minutes. He’s still have having 25 points. So, I say with Big Fellow back up there, no, I think I think we going to win the chip if you ask me. I don’t care what anyone else got to say, though. Uh, just so people can kind of get a a handle on who you are and they’re they’re seeing the numbers and that kind of thing. So, born in the Bahamas, then you come to the States. Um, Buddy Heield was was big in your development. I know. Um, you go to Florida, you go to New York, you go to college in Waco at at Baylor. Uh, how would you describe the difference between Baylor and Philadelphia? Waco and Philadelphia. Definitely. Uh, Philly knows more of a city life over here. It’s too many people for me. I’m be honest. I just stay in my apartment. Um, but uh on the floor, you know, collaging, you know, spacing, it’s a lot of space out here. And then I got Tyrese Max that can shoot from half court. So, you know, life is life is a little easier over here if you ask me. So, you really trying to say Coach Drew hail you back at Baylor. That’s what he’s telling us. Nah. Nah, nah, I ain’t saying that. Hey, OG, he like in a dorm room right now, don’t he? He does look like a It does look like a dorm room. Get a TV, man. Man, I have a TV, Shaq. It’s right over there. [Laughter] guys. Um, man like that, man. We We appreciate y’all taking the time tonight on a night off. We really do. Thank you much. And and congrats on a great start. You’re 4 and0 and you got Boston next up. So, we appreciate you. Appreciate you, man. All right. [Music]

  1. So cosmic my comment is 78th so I see #77 on my screen 😉 … Anyhow, just wait a couple more years when VJ's body fills out he will be even more scary whereby like the greats he can EFFECTIVELY play the 1, the 2, or the 3!!!

  2. As soon as I saw those walls and no bedframe bed, I knew VJ was gonna get roasted by half the crew. Great vibes, hope everyone gets and stays healthy for this Philly team.
