#DallasCowboys Fish AM Report LIVE! New Trade Targets? Like Noah’s Ark; Good, Bad & Ugly

[Music] Breakfast at fishies and here they come like Noah’s arc. Cowboy trade ideas. I’m Mike Fischer, your trusty and trust reporter. Give me 11 minutes and I’ll give you the Cowboys world as we go. The good, the bad, and the ugly. We’ll use the Denver trip as a springboard, but then we’ll move forward from there. The springboard being what happened in that game that helps us identify what the Cowboys might do, could do, should do, will do. We did the identity thing last night. Forget identity. They don’t have one. Uh it’s it’s a mythological concept anyway, but whatever the Cowboys thought their identity was going to be, all their identity now is that by and large they’re lousy. That can change Monday night against Arizona uh 44 and one will feel different. And so no, you’re not giving up the ship yet and nor you should. Let’s see. It certainly does look like for the first time in a skill years, uh, there was going to be a repeat champion in the NFC East. The Eagles, troubled as they are in the locker room at times, they always are. Uh, that roster, and I’ve been saying this for a long time, that roster is way better than your roster. Washington at this point might not be able to make that argument. So, let’s look at what happened in Denver against a now 6-2 Bronco team and see how it springboards us toward the November 4th NFL trade deadline. You ready? Let’s do the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good, the rookie bridges quiz, we’ll call him gets the interception. Does that settle things for you in the Cowboy defensive backfield? Of course it does not. major problems in terms of performance at quarterback and then injury issues there too with Trayvon Diggs on IR and then gigantic issues now at safety with performance and injuries and more injuries and even more. Steve from Texas Fish, really? How can we improve our defense enough to be a playoff threat? Well, don’t be the 31st or 32nd worst defense in the NFL, which they are uh by every standard. By the way, as long as we’re throwing uh Cowboy crap out there and making points about it, Mike McCarthy got trashed here for the entirety of his time because discipline, penalties, stupid penalties. The Cowboys ranked I think it was they they jumped to 11th one time or something or sunk moved to 11th but uh I think they were you know second fourth and first or something in three to four years. Guess where they are in penalties again this year even though there’s a new coach and a new attitude and a new culture. Same. This team for the last five years has been a bottom four penalty team. Worst penalty team four of the five years. So, let’s change that, too, while we’re at it. Change that. Play better on defense. Fire the cord. I don’t know. I’m just saying. You know, the buy is coming. Um, play better. But whatever the defensive uh stats say, and we pointed out yesterday, no team has ever given up 30 points per game. Cowboys presently give up 31 and made the playoffs. That’s never happened before. So, let’s start there. Quit giving up 30 points a game. Emanuel Ortiz $5 pitch in the super chat. Shotty put this offensive staff together. Jerry brought in flu. Jones has made it clear that I flu was his pick. Let Shotty bring in his guys on defense. You know, Shotty and Rex Ryan did used to work together. [Music] That’s a beard scratcher. So, defensive backfield problems. Let’s go to Noah’s Ark. Anybody out there that can change it? Yeah. I’ll give you the two names on Noah’s Ark. That interests me. Minka in Miami. That’s a playmaking safety. We’re going to dig into it in more depth coming up. And Michael Carter, age 26, slot corner with the Jets. Jets figure to be involved in a fire sale. Let’s get in on that. Next, let’s go to the running back situation as we go good, bad, and the ugly. Uh, this was a mixed bag obviously for Javvante Williams. As we said yesterday, he he got himself his two touchdowns. They didn’t accomplish anything on the ground. Cowboys fan 65, Uncle Fish Premium, save your picks and work on next year’s roster. One of the things that we’ve stressed, Cowboys fan and uh the rest of Cowboy Nation, not 76,000 fish heads here, but uh the rest of the Nationals and the Casuals need to catch up with this. You can still be a buyer. No matter what your record is, as long as what you’re buying isn’t just for this year. Don’t buy necessarily because he’s gonna put us over the hump in the playoff. Buy because it helps your roster long term. That’s why I’m anti- rental. But when it comes to running back, okay, fine. I I will I will pay attention to the idea of Bree Hall except he’s a rental and my friend Joe Hoy at the Dallas Morning News. kind of just as an aside and again this merits further explanation too. He’s got a list of hey Cowboys should call this this this is and he mentions old friend Tony Pard diddly diddly dink. What? So there’s the two running backs that we’ll put on Noah’s arc to go along with the two defensive backs. How about defensive ends? a fascinating quote from Jerry Jones and I think he must have been talking to Diana Rousini at the NFL owners meetings of the Athletic and his quote basically is no I’m not looking at defensive ends because we have such an incredible group the best we’ve ever had defensive ends he’s looking elsewhere on defense now with Jerry as always we got to get through country fried little rock doortodoor Bible salesman word salad jibberjabber that doesn’t make any sense Jerry that you have ruled out acquiring a defensive end when Jay Glazier just told us you called on Max Crosby and you called on Trey Hendendrickson by the way how can that be possible when early in the week I said they had um because they called later in the Right. So, we’re not interested in defensive ends, but they’ve called on defensive ends, but that’s Jerry’s quote. That’s not his focus because we’re so good at defensive end. We’re looking elsewhere. So, I still believe if you called once on Max Crosby and we’re told no, and you called once on Trey Hendrickson, we’re told no, that doesn’t mean you can’t call again. What’s the Raiders record going to be in two weeks? Uh, well, in one week now, right, November 4th. What’s the Raiders record going to be? What’s the Bengals records going to be? What’s going to be the vibe in the building and the vibe in the locker room? If you called once, call again. But work on the assumption that those two Noah’s Arc names aren’t in play and that Jerry’s even telling a smidgen of truth on where the focus is. Let’s finally move the linebackers. So we did defensive backs MA and Michael Carter running backs I don’t see it but Bree and Pard giving up on defensive ends I don’t buy that either but the top two names there uh obviously are Crosby and Hendrickson except Hendrickson’s a rental there no way uh that the Cowboys have in their budgetary mind the idea of paying him $35 million a year next year. No way. Acquiring him and then paying. I’m not saying they shouldn’t, but he is on the wrong side of 30. I’m saying they won’t. So, one more on Noah’s Arc. Let’s go to the linebackers. It’s being said that well Jerry built this roster and Jerry and I I’m here to help you understand as I have for a long time on the subject of Jerry does this guys. I was there sitting in Jerry Jones’s office. This goes back 30 plus years at Valley Ranch back when access was really easy. Like I could just walk in there. And I was in there one day and in comes somebody. It might have been George Hayes in sales. And they George brings in two cups, two beer cups, plastic beer cups. And they had a meeting and I got to sit and watch it kind of whatever they are, 16 cups or 8 oz cups, whatever. And one cup was tall and skinny and the other cup was short and fat. and they had a meeting about which they should use at Texas Stadium. They were trying to decide which one looked bigger, right? The short fatty or the long skinny. So when we’re talking about Jerry Jones and Jocks and Socks and involvement and in in as of 19 90 fully involved in every single thing right on down to the size of the beer cups at Texas Stadium. Now Jerry’s not the one making the phone calls. Jerry’s not the one who said get me Jack Sandborn. And the idea that Matt Eberloose didn’t have a major contribution to building this roster on the defense front is just wrong. Jerry has no idea who Jack’s Jerry might still not know who Jack Sanborn is, but he damn sure didn’t know who he is when he was a free agent with the Bears. That’s Eberloose. So, the buck stops with Jerry, but the building of the roster is Will Mcclelay and the scouting department and Shottenheimer and the coaching department. That that’s a fact and it’s been that way for a long time. So, uh, that’s an in-depth way of saying this linebacker group has been exposed. Kenneth Murray is a fantastic athlete who can’t do anything. Jack Sandborn is uh, a tryhard guy who can’t do anything. and they’re pinning so much hopes on agent zero like he’s going to come here and fix the entire linebacker core. There’s another concept. Here’s two more names on Noah’s Arc and let’s do the linebackers. Logan Wilson in Cincinnati makes $11 million a year. They’re starting to cut down on his playing time. I don’t know why. May maybe he’s not as good anymore. He is signed through 2028. That would be a long-term acquisition. And I bet you can get them for cheap, assuming the Bengals decide to be seller sellers, which they haven’t yet pending this weekend. So Logan Wilson is the guy in the thumbnail from the Bengals. And then Deario Davis’s name is being thrown around. Solid as a rock in New Orleans. It, by the way, should New Orleans be a seller? Yes. Should the Bengals be a seller? I think so. That’s two terrible defenses. Two bad teams. Why do I want good players off bad teams? Because that might be the only way right now to get them. You’re not going to pry good players off good teams, are you? So, Logan Wilson, linebacker. Interesting. Demario Davis, linebacker. Tap the brakes on that name. He’s 36. Can he help me today? Probably. Is he a building block for the future? Clearly not. So there is your Noah’s Arc position by position by position group. Jerry wants to eliminate defensive ends, but we still think it merits mention Trey and Max. Running backs Reese Hall and Tony Pard linebackers Logan Wilson and Deario Davis and defensive backs Minka in Miami and Michael Carter with the Jets. Much more on all this over the course of the day. We will have a fish at 6 tonight. Uh, but it’ll be like live because I’ll be inside the building at six o’clock working on a special project and then we should be at the Star today for practice. So maybe we’ll have a nice fish for lunch that we can serve up for you as well. In the meantime, cowboyscountry.com, the 75 member staff is killing it there. 1. Sure we could get back to .500. The problem is that’s a problem. We have never beat Kyler Murray! If we happen to do so, then we still have major problems on the defense! I just don’t think we can get enough wins with this defense as is, by the time Overshown gets back and if Diggs ever comes back, it will be too late. We will be talking about the draft!

  2. We definitely don’t need rentals. Wasted money the way we look now. We just need urgency on defense. That means making tackles. If you can’t play the scheme you might need another profession.

  3. Identity? Sure they have an identity. It's called swiss cheese. AKA full of holes.

    On defense it's everywhere.

And on offense that includes OT. You need to acquire at least one; maybe move Guyton to RT. Plus there will be a hole at running back in 2026 if they don't address tackles and resign Javonte Williams.

Selling Trade at the Deadline: I'd trade Pickens for a high first and second round pick. Maybe a high first and a third. I'd want two firsts to trade him to a playoff team. But I'd sign him if I could before the trade deadline. He fills a real need. At least try to sign him before free agency if you don't trade him.

Buying Trades at the Deadline: Crosby? Sure, for the 2026 GB first and no more. Quinnen Wiliams? Not for a first; yes for a second. But Williams and Breece Hall for the GB first, Javonte Williams, Mazi, and Diggs, absolutely. That trade fills two 2026 needs for the Cowboys. The Cowboys players would all make the Jets next year (assuming they signed Williams).

Another possibility: trade Pickens, Mazi, Diggs, and Javonte to the Jets for Hall and Williams straight up. Then use free agency or draft capital to find a WR2 to replace Pickens. Who knows, maybe Pickens wouldn't want to sign with the Jets after 2025 is over. Maybe the Cowboys could sign him in free agency because he wants to be back with Dak and CeeDee. Even if it took $34 million a year for three years. That trade overall is a huge win for the Cowboys. And that's even if they don't get Pickens back in free agency.

Note that I'd never trade the Cowboy's 2026 first; that pick goes for a defensive player. But I probably trade the Cowboys first pick in 2027 for Crosby or Hall and Williams. In fact, I'd love to acquire all three players in both trades if I traded away Pickens. Trading the 2027 first is effectively cashing in now and trying to contend in 2026. Also, the Cowboy's record in 2027 is very likely to put them lower in draft order than the 2026 picks.

  4. What was wrong with Kyle Dugger? I saw the Steelers who have spend a ton on their defense and needed a safety, made a move… Dugger has spend time on winning programs and various defenses and could help our younger guys. I’m sure the patriots would have preferred to send him to the NFC rather than a rival… but we never called or whatever and we keep sending these practice squad level guys out there

  5. In my opinion the cowboys need to throw in the towel for this season so we at least have one decent pic because it's pretty obvious the one we're going to use this year from the Packers it's going to be at the bottom of the first round. They need to get someone better than Rex Ryan to come in as defensive coordinator he's old he is not going to do anything good for this defense…..
