🚨The Kansas City Chiefs Make A SNEAKY GOOD Signing + Trey Smith Injury Update

Chiefs Kingdom, we’ve got some breaking news to discuss today. Kansas City has made a signing and in my opinion, it’s a sneaky good one. One that could have major effects on what the Chiefs decide to do at the trade deadline. So, we’re going to get into all that. Plus, we’ve got some injury news to get into. Loaded show today. Let’s get right into this thing. [Music] All right, Chiefs fans, here’s what we’ve got coming up on the Chiefs Report by Chad Sports. My name is Jackson Durham, and we’re going to get into the roster move Kansas City made today, bringing back a familiar face to the roster, someone you guys should be familiar with. And then we’ve got some injury updates to get into. Like I said, one on the positive end of the spectrum and then a couple kind of on the negative end of the spectrum, as injuries usually tend to be. And lastly, we’re going to talk some trade rumors. I think this move that Kansas City made up at the top could have a major effect on the decisions they decide to make at the trade deadline. So, we’re going to talk about all of that. But firstly, let’s talk about the signing they made today. And like I said, this move could have major effects on the trade deadline plans. And make sure that you guys stay up tod date because the trade deadline is literally right around the corner, guys. It is next Tuesday, November 4th, at 3 p.m. And if the Chiefs make any sort of move, if Kansas City makes a trade, big or small, we’ve talked about a lot of potential trade candidates, ranging from huge ones like Jaylen Phillips and Bree Hall to smaller ones like Colin Sanders, no matter what they do, no matter if Kansas City Chiefs don’t even make a move at all, we’re going to be here to cover what they do. Bringing back Mike Panel, a face you guys should be pretty familiar with from his time with the Kansas City Chiefs prior to being released earlier this off season just before the start of the season. And then they obviously made that trade for Derrick Naughty. I wasn’t a huge fan of the decision to release panel. Neither was Chris Jones, which we’ll get into in just a minute. And it’s worth noting 100%. Malik Herring, defensive end, was also released from the practice squad to make way for this move. But this is a move and we’ve talked about it over and over again how important it was to go out and address the depth at defensive line. We knew after losing Omar Norman Lot that this was the biggest position of need on the Kansas City Chiefs roster. It was pretty obvious to everybody watching. It was already a struggle on the defensive line. We were struggling to get pressure from the interior, struggling to get pressure, period. Chris Jones still a phenomenal player. We love 95, but not the guy that he was in the past who can single-handedly absorb double teams and still make that impact, freeing things up for other guys. He’s been slowed down a lot by those double teams this year. So, it was important that we went out and made a move to address the loss of Omar Norman Lot because Lot was supposed to be that guy next to Chris Jones to make it a little bit easier for him this year. We spent a lot of draft capital on him. 63rd overall pick in the draft and he played well when he was on the field for just five games, but ultimately unable to keep going. Season ending torn ACL in week seven. And credit to Brett Beach for quickly going out and making a move to address this need. I don’t think this necessarily prohibits us from making a trade to address it as well at the deadline, but I think it allows us to go in another direction bringing back a guy Spags is familiar with. But I want to hear from you guys on this one. Grade the signing of Mike Panel. How are we feeling about it? Give it an A if you really love this thing. If you think it is the best move that’s going to save our season, give this signing an A. If you’re hating this move, if you don’t like it at all, give it an F. Let me know in the comments. Give it any sort of grade. You get to play teacher today. I’m going to give you my take, though. I love this move. I’d probably give it a solid B. I I’m not going to give it an A. I don’t think I think we got to be honest with ourselves as Chiefs fans, and we know who Mike Panella is. We saw him last year. He’s not a world beater. He’s not going to come in and make a huge difference on this roster, but what he is going to do is provide super solid depth and a boost to the chemistry in this locker room. You know who wanted this move more than anyone in the world? Probably Chris Jones. Big number 95. This photo is actually from today. This is Mike back at practice and Chris Jones dapping him up. These two having a great time as they have throughout his career. And Chris made it very very apparent in an interview recently that he wanted Mike back. Here’s what he had to say about Mike to the media when he was asked actually, “What does the team miss without Mike Panell?” He said, “Everything.” And hopefully life goes full circle when we get my guy back. Mike Panell is a hell of a locker room guy. And so many things I can say about my brother. We’ve got to get my brother back. So, I think it should be as simple as that. Right. number 95. Everything he’s given to Kansas City over the years. I know we just talked about him not being the same player that he was, but think about the player that he is in his totality. We owe him bringing back a brother. If he feels like Mike Panel is his brother, if he feels like Mike Panel is going to make a difference on this roster, super lowcost move and it’s a position of need. I think it’s as simple as that in my opinion. If it’s important to 95, it’s 100% worth doing. And like we talked about, even if Chris Jones hated the guy, we just need healthy bodies at the position. And Mike not a world beater, but he’s certainly better than Derek Naughty, who isn’t good at all. And Jerry Tiller, who shouldn’t really be on an NFL field in my opinion. Mike Panell should be able to come in, provide an instant impact for us alongside Chris Jones, move Naughty and Tillery more into those rotational roles. So, I talked about this move could have an effect on what we do at the trade deadline, and I do think that’s true. I think this move could mean that Bree Hall is once again an option for Kansas City because when you consider we’ve kind of addressed the need at defensive tackle and then you’ve also got the news that broke yesterday that Isaiah Pacheco is week to week with an MCL spring. So, we have a need at running back right now. Is Bashard Smith ready to step up into that RB1 role? I sure hope so. I think Kareem Hunt can help fill that gap. But you know who could absolutely fill that gap? This guy right here, gang. Bree freaking Hall. We’ve talked about him over and over again. You guys know I’m a huge fan, but why would you not be? I mean, look at the numbers on Bree Hall. Look at the stats from this season. 117 carries, 581 yards. That’s 5 yards per carry. And the breakaway game with him is unbelievable. Something we’ve talked about that’s been missing from our run game. I think it’s still missing even though we’ve had more success. Outside of Patrick Mahomes, nobody’s really generating explosive runs. 11% of everything you give to Bree Hall becomes an explosive run of 15 yards or more. We could really use a guy like that in the offense. And Jeremy Fowler said that the Jets are kind of on the fence right now. He said there are people in the Jets building who are leerary of the idea of trading Hall, who showed Sunday that he could still be a dynamic threat and a key element of their offense. And if you didn’t catch the game he’s talking about against Cincinnati, he really did. 18 carries for 133 and two touchdowns. The fact is there’s a price for almost everything, he continues. And if a team gives the Jets a strong enough offer for Hall, they would probably take it. He continued on. But a couple of weeks ago, I would have expected them to deal Hall just to get something in return before he left as a free agent. Now it feels more possible that they consider bringing Hall back next season, in which case they might be more hesitant to trade him now. So, that brings us to my trade idea. I think we have to start with a fourth round pick. I think that’s your floor offer for the New York Jets, and we can work up from there depending on how they respond. But I think a fourth round pick is a fair offer for Bree Hall, especially when you consider he’s going to need a new contract after this season, and that contract could get a little expensive, not out of Kansas City’s price range. That’s why I like this move so much because I think Bree Hall, unlike Jaylen Phillips, who we’ve talked about in the past, a move you could make on the defensive line, but that feels like a one-year rental to me. That doesn’t feel like a guy we could keep around. Bree, I’d make this move in a freaking heartbeat because we could keep him around. And imagine what would it be like to have Patrick Mahomes with an elite running back again. Look at the RB Dev chart that we got right now, guys. I mean, Isaiah Pekco’s injured right now, but even when he’s healthy, these guys have been productive. Guys have been solid. But is this a dream team room here? Rookie Bashard Smith, aging Kareem Hunt, Isaiah Pacheco, not really back in the prime prime of his career anymore. I think we could make an upgrade here. I think we could get an elite running back for Patrick Mahomes. And that’s where Bree Hall comes in. I’d give up a fourth round pick for him in a heartbeat. I’d even consider giving up a third round pick for him. But all of that we’ll continue to discuss in a trade rumors video coming out this weekend. But let’s focus on some injury updates for now. One of which extremely positive guys. Trey Smith’s back. Trey Smith returned to practice today and I think we can all just huge huge relief to get him back. Mike Caliendo really struggled. We’ll talk about that a little bit more in a minute, but enormous to get the right guard back in the roster. Josh Simmons going to miss practice again today. Not a huge surprise. Still dealing with the personal issue. Don’t really have any more details on that situation for you guys. Hollywood Brown was out today. Don’t think this is anything to be really concerned about. Sounds like he’s just dealing with an illness. And then Isaiah Pacheco, of course, missing time with that MCL sprain. So, that’s kind of what you need to know out of practice. But obviously the biggest and most notable news is positive here, guys. It’s Trey Smith. Getting him back. Oh my gosh, that’s huge. Last week on Monday night, you could immediately tell the difference that it was when Mike Kellyendo was in at right guard and not Trey Smith. And I know it’s crazy. You got five offensive linemen. You’d think just one offensive lineman being out wouldn’t make a crazy big impact, but that’s how this works. Offensive line is a position group that relies heavily on the chemistry you build in the experience of playing repeated downs with a guy and you’re only as good as the weakest link in the chain. And when Mike Kellyendo’s on the field, you’ve got a pretty weak link in the chain. Sorry, Mike. Five pressures allowed against the Washington Commanders. Getting him out of the starting lineup, it’s huge, guys. It is massive to get him out. And again, I’m not trying to take huge digs at him here, but the reason it’s massive is because we’re getting Trey Smith back in the lineup at an enormously important time. We’re coming into a week nine matchup against the Buffalo Bills guys, our biggest rivals right now. Over the last couple years, this team has really taken that role of kind of a thorn in our side in the regular season. They’ve never been a bother in the postseason. I know we all know that, but in the regular season, they can get us and they’re a damn good team. And they’ve got a good, strong front seven. And we need Trey Smith to be ready for this one.
