INSTANT REACTION: Bruins Lose Third Straight in 4-1 Loss to Avalanche

[Applause] [Music] [Applause] Welcome to Bruins Overtime Live presented by by a toyota.com with Billy and Razer. I’m Sophia. Make that three straight losses for the Boston Bruins. Now, the last couple of games down just by one goal. They lost by a goal. This case very different guys losing by three and only and I know the NHL is going to update it, but I think around 14. Maybe it’ll they’ll add or take away another, but 14 shots on net. You’re not going to win games and you only have 14 shots on net. No. Um Rick said it. We knew it was going to be a hard game. Yeah. Regardless, but um Colorado comes in. Uh they’re playing well. They haven’t lost in regulation. they’re coming back home after being in in Columbus and um I I just think the second period when they reset and they said all right you know we you know it’s 2-1 in the first guys we can we can be better meaning sat there and they just took it right away I mean to me that changed the tenor of the game the the first two minutes 3 minutes of the second period it reset everything I guess and it put it significantly in the favor of the ABS if the Bruins were going to have a chance here they were going to have to manage the puck really well they were going to have to limit turnovers. They were going to have to stay out of the penalty box. And they didn’t do enough of that. They were in the box for three straight chances in the second period. They turned the puck over on the first goal. They turned the puck over too many other times in the neutral zone. And and they had you go into you’re going into Colorado, you’re going into Las Vegas this season, they’re the two best home records in the league at the end of the season. They will be if not the top five. So, you’re going to have to other teams are going to have to play perfect games. The Bruins especially had to and and they didn’t these two times. So, um, now you have to go back to the drawing board and just try and claw one out tomorrow. The shame of it all, too, is that you got a great performance from Swayman. Yes, it’s very good. That’s and that’s your only hope really relatively if you don’t have tremendous goal, not just pretty good, but tremendous goalending, you don’t even have a chance to win even if your team does play well. Yeah, exactly. And they got that that goalending and they just didn’t. They the offensive lack of offensive generation is was was stark. Back-to-back starts for Jeremy Swimman. He obviously started in Vegas as well. Uh we are going to show you some of the Bruins chances and they had a couple later in the third period when it was still a onegoal game. Yeah, I I I Yeah, early in the third period here. You know, they got a little bit of a of a flow going. Um you know, Beecher Beecher was their best player in the third. You know, he didn’t play end up playing that much, but that that one shift drives the net and then gets another opportunity when he’s going to pop out right there. a little kick out and and but Wedgewood makes the save that he had to make. I I mean, who knows what would happen, but if they scored there, at least you have a fighting chance. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. It’s a you know, it’s a big save. Um you need to make one of them when you’re in the NHL and you’re playing and you win. Uh you have to find one of them. It was a good job. Listen, the fourth line, fourth line did their thing again and Beecher came in and hasn’t played training camp. Would he go on way? all those question marks around him. He did a nice job coming in and uh certainly made a case to to see another another lineup here in the in the coming week. Absolutely. Johnny Beecher getting his first start of the season, the regular season. Scored a goal, had that really nice chance on Wedgewood. Our Subaru star of the game brought to you by your New England Subaru Steelers. Uh is not a Boston Bruin. It is Nathan McKinnon and we highlighted him in pregame for good reason versus the Boston Bruins. So that’s 22 games, 18 points, an even rating, a couple power play goals, shorthanded goal, and a gamewinning goal. Tonight he had two, so give him six on the season, eight shots on net. 2317 time on ice. We’re showing you, I believe, his second goal. Yeah, his second goal right here. Yeah, amaze that he even ended up playing that much again. I mean, I know he loves playing, but event I I think it wears him down as season goes on. Regardless, he was jumping. Here’s his second one. And Pasta doesn’t take him. He He has to Watch right here. So Pasta is going to be the one right there to have the puck go off the heel of his stick. Now he’s going to come back and back check. But McKinnon who right here a little stutter ways. Look at everybody then looking at him. Now here he comes in and pasta’s behind him. And I understand there’s other players there, but you got to pick up the most dangerous player on the ice. You do. Nate Dog’s pushing for the heart already. Um he’s going to be in the top top three. uh he will be there at the end and if you don’t mark up in the defensive zone and you don’t know where he is and or again I I I’ll continually go back to just the carelessness of them with the puck in the offensive zone that that’s where all of this starts against this team. That play back to David can’t be one-handed. Can’t go off the heel of your stick. The pass probably can’t get made there. The probably has to go back behind the net there. That’s really where you’re going to break the tape down in tonight’s game and and get granular if you’re a coach and say, “Listen, these are the places where we lost the game. It wasn’t in our own zone.” All right. Well, let’s show you another turnover by David Posternok. Early on, this was Nathan McKinnon’s first goal, the first goal for the ABS. Um, self-explanatory, I suppose. There’s not a whole lot to be said for video. Yeah, exactly. Tape. Tape don’t lie. Um, this is the ultimate tape don’t lie. He can there backhanded into the zone. You had your guy, you had Pavle Zaka go cutting through. You could have chipped it off the boards and in. I know that’s not David’s game, but some nights it has to be. This night was probably one of those nights. And unfortunately, it didn’t work out. And and again, like I said, we said after the first, it’s the last guy you can give a breakaway to in this game. And when you’re up one- nothing in in their building, like it just it just can’t happen. How about Josh Manson scoring off the face off? This was nice. We broke it down in the first intermission how that went down, but let’s show you again, guys. So, Middlestat is out there. Landis Scog had taken the face off for Nelson cuz Nelson gets kicked out. The only face off he had taken all first period. He wins it cleanly. Burns quick one pass, one-touch pass over to Manson who then the puck is actually on its side. I think you might see it right here as it’s going to go over there. You see how it’s on its side there, Sofh? And then that just creates that movement effect on the puck that, you know, makes it even harder. And nobody can get out there to block the shot. It it happened within 3 seconds, you know, from the faceoff win to that. It was and we saw a bevy of chances in the first half of the game off of faceoff. Both teams to their credit, teaching’s credit, but Colorado ended up getting a couple more in that one right there. I mean, Manson’s not a big goal scorer. It’s not that he doesn’t have any offense, but he’s not a big goal scorer, but he he absolutely clobbered that one. Power moves presented by Salem 5. Here to help you make your move as we take a look at Colorado this season. So, no loss in regulation, 50 and one so far. 3.5 goals a game. He scored four today. Power play not that great. 0 for five actually tonight on the power play and 12% on the season. Penalty kill 87.5. Guys, we wanted to show the fans, whoever’s watching this shot chart. So, and and then you can see the ones that are red. That’s where they scored them and over I mean, look at all the shots coming from the left wing side aimed more than the than the right side. But they’ve uh they were all over the ice quite honestly. But it seems like they they found themselves releasing the puck more on the left there. But overall, their goals came from four different quadrants on the ice too. You had you had one from in front, one from the right. You see the upper left and then the point where Manson scored from basically just a that that tell you know that’s a good night for Jeremy Slayman cuz one of those red dots is an empty net or two. So really good job from Jeremy. Beyond that there was just too many too many chances, too many options too too much for Colorado. Crease coverage presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance. Jeremy swimming this season through four starts. Those are his numbers tonight. 34 saves on 37 shots. And really guys, he kept them in it. We heard Marco Sturm say it was a winnable game at some point. Onegoal game and thanks to Jeremy Swamman’s performance. It was a real real quality start from Jeremy Swayman both analytically and with the eye test of well above the three goals again. So much more were expected. Uh they just he stood tall and especially in that second period when they got out shot 16-2. He was solid. didn’t get too overly aggressive, let the play come to him, dealt with the speed. That’s a great read, great save, great hockey sense, and did everything he could going into Colorado to to give his team a chance and and that was the expectation for him tonight. Yeah, I thought it was spectacular the first three minutes of that second period because, you know, to even still be in it after that first three minutes was impressive with those five high quality chances uh that happened actually under three minutes. But I thought this was right up there with the Washington game, you know, start the year. I mean, so really, really good. He was I thought he was I thought he was good in Vegas, but like the rest of the team, you needed a little more at times, right? I mean, just in general, but I thought the way he came back in this one and was really I mean, really on in Colorado that top line, they had 16 shots on goal, the McKinnon line. Mhm. On goal. It doesn’t count other chances at So, he had to be really sharp given that that’s one of the best lines in the NHL. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. The Bruins losing 4-1.

The Avalanche beat the Bruins 4-1 for their third straight loss. Sophia, Billy, and Razor share their instant reaction and key takeaways during Overtime Live.

  1. They suck from the absent owners down to the media on NESN, they are loaded with no show so called leaders, to many overpaid untradeable contracts like McAvoy both Lindholms, Zacha, they are the laughing stock of the league. To bad they couldn’t send half the team down to providence and bring up some guys that want to put effort in their game.
