Trevor Zegras POWERS Flyers to shootout win over Islanders | PHLY Flyers Postgame
[Music] Hey everybody, how you doing? Woo! Welcome to PHLY Flyers presented by Bet 365. My name is Bill Matz. I’m your director of fun and games for the evening, afternoon, whatever you want to call it. Right now, joining me live in the Xfinity studio on this PHL live Flyers post game, it is the one and only Steve Jo. What’s going on, Steve? What’s going on, Bill? Feeling weirdly energized after a Flyers and Islanders game. Can you imagine that feeling? It was a pretty good game today. It was It was a lot of chances back and forth. We see a bunch of goals. It goes to a shootout. I saw some physicality. There’s like a melee at one point. I wouldn’t call it a line brawl, but definitely a mini rumble. A little melee. A little rumble in the jungle right there. Yeah. Early in the game, we see a fight. We see uh Scott Mayfield get bloodied up. Scott Mayfield was a a big presence today for the Islanders and uh kind of on his way to becoming a little Flyers nemesis right there if he keeps this up. But uh we saw a lot of good stuff. We’re all we’re going to go through it all. Charlie will join us at some point on the Xfinity Mobile call-in line. But I got to tell you right now about a couple of things going on here at PHLY. First, it’s our new shirt. It’s dope. You’re going to want to check out this shirt. It’s part of our Faceoff collection. There it is. right there. I think it’s freaking sick. I think this is one of the coolest pieces of merch we’ve put out. Ordering mine right now. Definitely. Uh, one of the best flyer shirts we have put out. Absolutely. Check it out at allphy.com. Click that merch tab. And if you’re not a diehard, well, you can’t get a discount on it. Right now is the time to get in because we have 55% off Diehard memberships in honor of number 55 coming back to the birds. So check it out right now. Uh get your uh get your die hard subscription so that you don’t miss out on things like discounts on merch and events, things like our Discord, which is popping all the time, especially for the flyers. It’s nuts. Uh I go in there, I can’t keep up with it, quite honestly. There’s so much flyers conversation going on. And of course, access to all of our premium written content. All right, Steve, where do you want to start tonight? Cuz I think I want to start with the Zegris line. We got to start with the Ziggress line because they were the story of the day today. I mean, this is Trevor Ziggress’s first real big like he’s had some big moments for this team to this point, but I feel like this is the first really big day. The day where you’re like, “Oh, that’s a game where Trevor Zegris was the reason that the Flyers won.” And he is the reason they won this game today. Yeah, without a doubt. I mean, he scores or he scores two of the goals, gets the primary assist on an awesome basically no look pass on the D’vorak goal, and he scores in the shootout. Yeah. Um, he did everything. What did they What did they say his number? He’s like over 62% now. I think they said 14 for 23. I thought it was like 16 for 22 even. Something insane. I’ll look it up. I’ll get back to you. His shootout numbers, he’s the best ever uh with for anyone who’s taken uh 20 or more shootout attempts. um better than TJ Oshi, which is nuts to think about. Uh it was wild seeing the Flyers just kind of coast up there because they had Brink, Zegris, and Mishkov go up. All go up slow. All three of them just went up taking their time and then just shots. Brink had a pretty good one. Yeah, Zegris is I mean that’s just the most confident I’ve I don’t know what you’re supposed to do because we’re we’re a fan base that for the longest time the Flyers were just hot trash in shootouts. They were garbage. And to see guys come up with confidence and poise in both Ziggress and Mishkov and Brink went up with confidence and poise too. But Ziggress and Mishkov just picked their spots and took killer shots. That’s all it was. That’s We had some guys who were decent. Like 40% is real good and G was like I think 32 33 something like that. He was I thought better early and then like okay these are the moves and goalies eventually like learned them and just he was a little less effective but they’ve never I guess Forsber for a little bit but it was like you kind of know what he’s going to do but he’s Peter Forsber so good luck uh they’ve never had anyone like this I mean no one has ever been as good as Ziggress is at this thing which is insane but he I’ve never seen anyone that good. I think today makes it 14 for 22. 14 for 22 for 21 on the NHL records. And I’m assuming that’s not updated for what just happened. So 14 for 22 is insane. Yeah, that’s it’s insane. I I I put that in my instant reactions. Like he’s in f insane. Like that’s all it comes down to. But the rest of his game was just as good today. Uh it starts with that uh little a nice passing se sequence. Mishkov gets the puck over to Zegris. Zegris basically just looks off the defenseman as D’vorak drives to the net, gets it to him. Little forehand backhand move. D’vorak beats Sroken. Flyers on the board. And Sroken looked like he was going to rip himself in two trying to get across that crease. Like that was a rough go for anybody to watch him just splitting like that. And it was uh in a game where Trevor Zegris beats Ilia Sroken three times, the highlight is the pass, right? Like it’s basically a lookoff, no look pass down low to a guy to set up the forehand backhand. It was sick, man. Trevor Zris is now he’s got two goals, six assists through eight games. I’d say that’ll get the job done. That’ll get the job done. And today is the kind of game where you see why a large portion of this fan base was gloating after that trade which sent Ryan Paling a 2025 second round pick and a 2026 fourth round pick to the Ducks for Trevor Zaggress. And we were like that’s a steal. And there were questions about what kind of player is Zaggress at this point? Is he a stud? Is he a star? Or are they just getting like an okay player who will be good on the power play? And today you see that this guy can be a true difference maker and this is just a complete highway ribery deal from Danny Brriier. Uh at least how it looks today. Like this is the game where you see this guy rocks and there is really high potential for him to be fantastic. Yeah, I uh I liked Ryan Paling a lot. I’ll never care that much about not first round picks uh in terms of trading them away. Like yeah, two and a four. Listen, I know they have like more value in the you know value chart. what is a pick worth than I think they have. But like a 2026 fourth, I have no attachment to that whatsoever. I think you’re never gonna know that guy’s name. I think that holds zero value to me. Like that might be worth nothing in my mind. That’s a great trade. And the price being what it was, I said at the time, even if they’re like Danny Breier is like, I’m not totally sold on Zegris. Definitely not sold on him as a center. Even if that’s your feeling, if you know the price is paling, a good player, but the ceiling, any team in the league, a fourthline goods fourthline center, that’s what he is. The price being that and a two and a four, you had to do it. Like you had you get that call for Pat Verbique and you’re like, “Oh yeah, I’m forced now to do this.” And you see the numbers uh tonight. So much uh of this game played on special teams. a lot of there’s some weird calls uh in this one. Very weird calls. And the refs went from calling kind of everything in the first two periods to late in the third period just ignoring blatant violations like um Owen Tippet getting grabbed at one point getting hooked. Like there were a lot of penalties that I thought they missed in both the third period and overtime that it was just weird. A very weird officiating day. And including the cadence of the one ref on calling. I think it was a slashing or slashing. Yeah. Yeah. He was just like he took his good time. So slow. He was just like I am calling a slash on. It was so But yeah, Zegris. This was uh this was a hell of a performance. It was a great day for D’vorak was calling him Ziggy at the intermission interview and I like that. I think that’s good. So we’re going to call him Ziggy sometimes. Just not Ziggy Py. No. No. Um, but he ends up two goals, one assist, uh, plus two, three shots. So, that’s a really damn good day for Trevor Z. It really was. And the rest of his line was good as well. Uh, Mishkov, I thought, had a terrible first period, quite honestly. He could have been I don’t I didn’t look at the turnover count, but he had three or four turnovers in the first period, including the one that led to the Islanders first goal, which was a short-handed one. That that could have been a a backbreaker for the Flyers today. And I know a lot of people were complaining on the socials about it. Uh people going to very extreme degrees, mind you, and I saw Charlie getting annoyed about it on certain social platforms. But um I can’t blame him. I was getting annoyed about it, too. And I think there’s a lot to discuss with Mishkov. Before we get into Mishkov, let’s talk about D’vorak, who got a a really nice goal today. And his setup for the Flyer, second goal, I thought was maybe his strongest play he’s made as a Flyer. Yeah, he was uh I thought that line was just pretty good today. Like they were they did a lot of stuff. Obviously, they create uh two of the three goals. Zris gets the other one on the power play and it’s working. I think this thing is coming together just in terms of your line combinations. It’s been a different line and a different guy some nights and I think they finally have like a real top nine. We’ve seen Grabben jump up on a few shifts with Zegris and uh with Ziggress and Mishkov and that’s cool to see. So Zegris gets a few more reps at center. Gbenin gets a little bit extra ice time so maybe he can show you a little something not just playing on the fourth line. I like what we’re getting out of uh but the that line with D’vorak especially it appears to be finding its identity. Yeah. And when I was talking about this line the other day, I kind of called D’vorak like the adult on the line. The guy who’s going to play kind of in the dirty areas of the ice. The guy who’s going to play the defense on defense. Why did I say it like that? He’s going to play the defense on the line. And he’s going to take the face off. So, he’s going to do a lot of kind of the boring stuff that isn’t exciting, but is very beneficial for that line. But his play on the second goal to just work up and this was a great just showing for that line in general. Both goals are, but the second goal when he works his way up to the side of the net, draws most of the defensive attention, passes it back to Ziggress, who’s able to just pot it in the upper left is fantastic. Mishkov is also drawing defensive attention to give Ziggress room by just being in the right position. Mishkov is there for a potential rebound, which is where I want to see him in that situation. So, just seeing all three of those guys work together like that to generate offense, that’s going to be a big difference maker for this team. And if they could have gotten that in Ottawa, they win that game. Yeah. 100% that’s it really not capitalizing on their opportunities just not having any sort of rhythm offensively in Ottawa is what killed them and you see today okay maybe it’s only the one line that really stood out but you get a little bit of something from everybody you get some pretty good defense along the way as well at different points but I am excited to see what this thing could become and I do like this idea of having as Charlie put it the other day like a top 10 forwards where you work Gbankin in on that third line and give Ziggress some center shifts as well because D’vorak is the only one of those two guys who’s going to be killing of those three guys who’s killing penalties. So, all right, he gets a little more ice time there. After a PK, maybe we get Grabbankin out with those guys, get the offense going. It just seems good. Like, it seems like there’s a plan and I think it makes sense. Yeah. Like it’s there’s so many times we see the line combinations and Charlie always tells us like relax about the line combinations. They get mixed around throughout the year. There’s only so much like impact that actually has. Eventually these guys get their ice time and they’ll make plays. But it feels right now like okay, this is kind of what we’re going to go with. We I we have stuff that makes sense and we kind of have at least in the top nine a set and forget lineup and Grabben been he was rotating earlier in the season. Now he’s kind of staked his claim to that fourth line role and it’s really just Luchenko and Abbles who are rotating. So it’s forward lines they’re set. they’re set. And what I like right now is that you seem to have depth at the forward lines where you if say one line isn’t the one clicking, another line can pick them up. So, who knows what the given line is going to be on any night. A few nights ago, it was the tippet couture connect line. Like on Monday, they were clearly the line. Most nights, it’s the Forester, Brink Kates line for sure. And tonight, it just happened to be that Zegris, Mishkov, and D’vorak line. So just having depth because teams are going to take away a line every like matchups alone are just going to take care of that. So having the depth to be able to go out there and really just have another line pick up when the other lines maybe aren’t clicking is great. Uh we were talking a lot in the pregame about the fourth line and maybe just generating more from them. And I thought they had a good game. Like they didn’t get any points but they were very physical. Uh they almost won it at the end of regulation. They had a chance right at the end. Yeah. And I thought just uh you know, Haway in particular had a very physical game. I think he’s listed with five hits in the stat line. He had a big fight with Mayfield in the first period. And you know, I just thought the fourth line um brought a lot of chippiness to the game in a good way. Yeah, they uh they didn’t dominate. You know, it’s a fourth line. That’s not what’s going to happen. But I did think they spent some time in the offensive zone. They were able to get pucks deep, which is basically any fourth line’s job. get pucks into the corner and hit their defenseman. And uh they did a little bit of that today. We get the fight, we get the at one point the melee that happens. Like it was uh I thought a better than usual performance for the fourth line. And I got to believe this is the fourth line we’ll probably be seeing regularly if it is, you know, the decision to send Luchenko back, which it feels like it’s going to be. We just are like when how much more are you going to play him? How long? How long are you gonna try to extend this thing? You play him, you don’t. So, he gets days to just practice be be in the pros. But eventually, yeah, like he’s going to have to play and play a lot. What is he an apprentice who’s just got to watch you like watching the blacksmith and learning how to be a blacksmith? No, he’s got to play ice hockey and he’s got to figure out how to play offense. So, I just want to see him play somewhere right now. And just sitting around like we’re watching Porter Martone over with Michigan State right now. And Porter Martone’s getting some great experience. By the way, looked fantastic. I think it was last night he scored a goal. Smooth skating. Oh, so excited for what’s going to happen there. But I want to see just Luchenko get ice time. I want to see him just be out there. I don’t like seeing him in the press box. No, I don’t think anyone likes seeing him in the press box. Um, I’m okay with it for right now, but eventually there will have to be a decision made like do you get him time in the top nine? Do you keep doing this thing where he plays a little and then if it’s just going to be eight minutes once every two or three games like uh send him back? That really doesn’t make any sense. You got to do your business or get off the pot. That’s a that is a very very elegant way to uh state it, Steve. That’s about the nicest way I could state All right, coming up after the break, we will be joined at Charlie at some point. I want to talk about Sam Harrison because I thought he was great today. Together, let’s drive. I like that together, let’s drive because it reminds me of uh Russell Wilson saying like Bronco country, let’s ride after every single after every single freaking media appearance because he’s a dork. And we know it worked out really well for Russell Wilson in I feel like I feel like Elen Chevy is making fun of Russell Wilson and you can’t make fun of Russell Wilson enough because he’s so corny. He’s so corny and he’s a New York Giant who your Philadelphia Eagles play tomorrow. Is he though? I know, right? He’s I mean he’s like a mascot at this point. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, uh anyway, this D’vorak Zegris Mishkov line it is nice to see clicking. I know that we want Zegris at center. The coach is not confident in that being a regular thing yet. He’s giving him opportunities. He’s We talked about it in pregame like Charlie said, he doesn’t even know if like Takit has told this to Zegris, but he’s told D’vorak like, “Hey, when Ziggress is first man back and he’s the low man in the zone, there’s no need for you to like whenever you get the first possible opportunity switch and he goes out to the point and you become the center again. It’s fine. Let him get the reps at center.” and it’s happening like a third of the time when they’re in the defensive zone. And uh is it the easy like is it the best way to develop a center? I don’t know. Would he just be getting his ass kicked if he was the center the whole time and they’re in they’re on defense, you know, 90% of their shifts? Maybe. Uh but he’s been he’s been really good and I think we’re going to get to the point where he’s going to get to be a center. But if he’s a point of game winger, it’s hard to argue with that, too. It’s hard to argue with that. And as I was saying, the way this line clicks right now, and again, it’s not consistent. We obviously saw a lot of struggles in the third period, especially, you know, with some of the Mishkov communication and passing, but there is a lot of capabil, a lot of uh, you know, potential on that line for good things to happen just because you have a good mix. You have two very intelligent like puck movers, very creative players in Ziggress and Mishkov. And then you got D’vorak who’s like a real meat and potatoes kind of hockey player. I think it’s working for now. I think it’s a good potential learning opportunity for Zegris. But yeah, I mean injuries are going to happen at some point, Bill. So, we are going to see him at center, I think, as the only center. But for now, I think roll with it because I like the makeup of all three of the top lines. And the fourth lines, it’s fine. Let’s talk a little Sam Harrison because he stops 23 of 26. the 885 save percentage obviously not ideal but he gives up two goals in the first six shots and we just go all right it’s gonna be another Sam Harrison game hold on to your butts famous after that point I thought he was fantastic uh made some very clutch saves uh in some really really tough spots there was a in in overtime clearly have four guys on the ice refs choose not to call it he makes a a big glove save to keep the game tied in the third period. That that was the uh was that the grab on Tippet where it generates a uh a rush chance, big blocker save there to keep the game uh because that was like right after the 3-3 goal. And if you give the momentum right back, game’s over. Like you’re not scoring that fourth goal. And really kept his team in it. I thought he was very clutch today. And the goals he gives up like what was the one that went off the ref’s skate? Was that the second or the third? I think that was the second one. The second goal, the uh one of the Flyers defenseman, I forget which one, offh hand, passes it back, goes off the ref’s skate, so it stays in the offensive zone and goes back to the Islanders, and the Islanders score as a direct result of that. And that’s just a freak thing. I mean, does the ref got to get his skate up? Yeah, he’s got to get his skate up, but this stuff happens. So, you’re just going to have to deal with that one. But I don’t really put that one too much on. hard when something like that happens because the play like is suddenly going the opposite direction you thought it was going. Uh so that happens. There’s the short-handed chance where yeah he gets a clean look at it but like it’s a short-handed twoon-one where kind of the same thing happened on the Jaru play a couple of nights ago where two guys kind of converge on one puck carrier and then he just gets it over to the open man and okay it’s a breakaway at this point. Holstrom seemed to know something about Eri because he scored on that short-handed chance and then in the shootout he he had a really good move on him that I guess he he knows the book or something. And the third one is a point shot through all sorts of traffic. It hits a couple of things and goes in. I make yourself bigger and hope it hits you, I guess. But I’m not going to blame him for that one too bad. I’m blaming more of the Flyers defense for not getting to Ciplov because uh and again I don’t have a 100% perfect recall of this, but I seem to recall that there were two Flyers on Ciplov and neither of them lifted his stick up to prevent that deflection. You lose the draw clean. You let two men get to the front of the net. Like this is what happens. That’s how you draw it up. Like it’s a video game goal. Yeah. Rip it through the screen. That’s all I do. Rip it. I put it back to the point. Rip it. Aim for the pads. Yeah. Hope for good stuff. And they they get that. So, yes, he allows the three. I know we’ve said so many times, how can he just keep having bad numbers and we say he played better in his numbers today. It’s actually true. He made over he made some huge saves in the third and in overtime he stops two of the three guys in the shootout. He’s now I think they said nine and three in his career in shootouts, something like that. Yeah. Yeah. It was like another shootout killer over really really good in shootouts. Uh and he has been that was one I think that was his first career shutout was a uh shootout win over the Islanders. So, and continued success against the New York Islanders. 40 and0 in his career against the Isles and he has the uh 65 plus minute win today and I think he absolutely earned it. Now, the offense had to do their part. They did. Uh that was not the case for Dan Viddar the other night, but I think this is a good sign for just where Erison is and what we need him to be. Even if it’s just in a straight up backup role, like even if Lar becomes the guy who starts two out of every three, two out of every three, which I think it’s too early to anoint him that. I would like to see it be a tandem for the most part. Uh but we’ll get Charlie’s uh we’ll get Charlie’s take on that because joining us now on the Xfinity Mobile call-in line is Philly’s number one hockey beat reporter and uh best hair on screen right now. Oh, it’s looking good today, Chuck. Look at this guy. It’s looking real good. Uh, Chuck, just overall thoughts on the game before we get into the specifics. Yeah, I thought it was a overall a pretty even game. It was fun. It was a fun game to watch. There there were a lot of uh extracurriculars. We had fight. We had I guess we had two fights cuz they’re counting that obs fight as a fight as well. Um, fun all-around game. Much more than I was expecting for a Flyers Islanders game. Um, I thought the Flyers in the first two periods and I asked Noah Caseasis and I asked Rick this. They both agreed. just felt like in the first two periods there were a lot of almost plays from the Flyers. They were they were nearly getting a really high quality chance, but the pass is a little bit off or it got blocked or the the wrong decision was made at the very last second. It just didn’t seem like they were truly playing their best. But I give them a lot of credit because they kept at it. They just kept plugging away. And I thought that power play goal, um, the the goal that tied up the game, the one that Zaggers ultimately gets credit for, I thought that’s what you have to do in a game where maybe you’re not quite clicking as best as you can. You got to score a dirty goal. And there aren’t that many dirty goals scored on the power play, but that was a dirty power play goal. Obviously, at first you think Noah Kate’s got it, then they eventually give it to Ziggress. Good play by Bobby Brink going downhill to create the initial shot. But when when everything’s not quite click clicking for you, sometimes you have to manufacture goals via hard work. And I thought the Flyers did that. I thought in overtime they were working really hard and then obviously they went in the shootout. I also like the fact that the tak gave Mishkoff a shootout opportunity gave him a an overtime shift as well. So just overall, you know, not the prettiest game, but an impressive win for the Flyers in a game where look, the Islanders aren’t that good of a team, but the Flyers on paper aren’t that good of a team either. These are games where if you want to stay in the playoff mix, you want to be in the bubble in the playoff bubble come March, you got to win these games against these teams that in theory, if you want to be in the playoff mix, you got to be better then. So, big win for the Flyers. I I was impressed. Yeah, absolutely. And they scored on the power play the way I’ve been begging them for two years. Turn the crease into the tush push. Make the refs overturn it if they want. Clean up the trash, Bill. Clean up the trash. It’s It’s really that easy. Some Mighty Ducks three stuff. Um, Charlie, we obviously get the huge game out of Trevor Ziggress. Gets credited with that second one, the first one a little prettier, but dear God, that pass on the D’vorak goal. I mean, Zegris now uh eight points in eight games, two goals, six assists. He’s he’s been as advertised. Like, I don’t know if we could ask for much better, especially after a performance like this. He also scores the pretty one in the shootout. What do you think of Zagris tonight and what he’s done so far? Yeah, I mean he’s a point per game guy. He’s off to a really good start. Um I asked Jamie Dale after the game because obviously Jaime knows Trevor Ziggers well. They go back to their their days in Anaheim and Jaime stayed in touch with with Trevor even after you know Dale was traded to Philly and he saw from afar Trevor Zager’s not looking particularly happy in Anaheim. And I asked Jamie kind of what’s it like to see him kind of come out clean on the other side if we’re going with the the Shaw Shank Redemption uh reference there. And and Dale basically said that it’s just so nice to see Trevor Zer’s happy again. It’s so nice that every day he’s got a smile on his face again that he seems like he’s happy to be somewhere. It really does seem like by the end, you know, the the trade talk getting moved over to wing and clearly you have a new coach and a new organization that just doesn’t doesn’t think that highly of you comparatively to where you were before with the Ducks just seemed like it weighed on Ziggress and it almost seems like he’s just got a big old weight lifted off his shoulders and now he’s playing freer and you’re seeing the guy look he’s not all the way there. He can play better overall. Obviously, we’re all hoping at some point he gets moved back to center full-time and he can become a clear-cut, you know, scoring top six center at the NHL level, but in the here and now, he’s playing really good hockey. And look, as I’ve said, I’d rather him be a center, but I’ll take an 80 point first line wing. That’s not the end of the world, and that’s pretty much what he’s been so far this year. Yeah, I mean, yes, the ideal is center. That’s what we’re hoping to get to. But I’ll take this. Like, I’ll take this. It’s It’s good. It’s better than not having him like this. I’ll take this all day, Bill. I will absolutely take this. Now, you had talked about on the power play goal where they tied it up, Bobby Brink being a key part of that, setting it up. And I know he didn’t have a huge day on the score sheet, but he was key in the tying goal. He made some really good plays, really noticeable plays. Uh, what did you think of Brinks day? Oh, I I love Brinksky. And spoiler alert, he’s going to make my uh my three stars actually because I really thought he had a a very low-key strong game. It’s wild. And I tweeted this out how fast he’s gotten because look, he got some criticism in his draft year for his skating. And it’s a weird skating stride. It’s still a weird skating stride. He skates odd. And he’s 5’8 and usually guys who are that small, if they want to be drafted high, they have to be high-end skaters. And he wasn’t a high-end skater in his draft year. And he had the the weird hitch in his stride that made scouts kind of like go. But guess what? He’s fast now. He is a legitimately fast skater. And I give Bobby Brink all the credit in the world because like that’s just a matter of working really hard. Like it’s not as if his stride has gotten significantly more aesthetically pleasing. It’s still a weird looking stride. It’s just that he’s clearly worked his lower body to the point where he now can generate real power and real explosiveness in a way that he wasn’t able to do, you know, three, four years ago back when he was a prospect. I give Bobby Brink all the credit in the world. Number one, it’s made him a better skater. Number two, it’s probably made him a better checker. It’s probably one of the reasons why he’s able to play grinded out hockey much better than he could, you know, when he was playing at Denver. I really like Bobby Brink’s game. I’m happy he got rewarded with a with an assist on the uh on the second Seager skull. But I liked his game start to finish in this one. I thought he low-key was very impressive. All right, because I have been critical of Sam Erison recently, I have to give him this game. Um I thought he was fantastic quite honestly. now is three goals like oh my god three goals on you know whatever he had a sub 900 save percentage but he was clutch in this game and that’s what you really need out of your goalie is the big saves in the big moments third period overtime a few huge saves obviously stops two of the three in the shootout he’s been good in shootouts I was very pleased with Harrison’s game tonight what did you think yeah it’s funny how two saves because it really was two saves can change the entire narrative about a goalie’s game Because in my mentions on social media in the first two periods, people could not stop complaining about Sam Harrison. They could not stop talking about how he’s trash. You know, if Lar was in, we’d be we’d be leading this game. Whatever. Two saves changed the entire conversation around. The first one is that blocker save in the third period on Jonathan Drew. That was a because it was right after the Flyers have tied it and then he makes this big save that keeps the game tied. That’s a clutch save. And then you have the really really good save which was the overtime save on Bo Horvat when he lunges over with the uh with the glove hand makes the stop. He told us after the game that you know he kind of knew that that that pass was going to be made. He was cheating a little bit because he could tell they were that I forget who made the pass but whoever it was who passed to Horvat Erson basically was like no I knew he was passing so I was I was shading over a little bit to try to get that. That’s how I was able to get over there in time. But you know what that’s what a goalie has to do especially when you’re in that situation. If you don’t make a decision like that, there’s probably going to be no way you’re going to be able to athletically make it over unless you’re predicting what’s going to happen. And the cool thing for Arison is that obviously this week probably was a tough week for him. You know, he watches Dave Lar get three straight starts. You know, he’s seeing the starting job slip away. Vadar is playing great. And one thing that Rataka said out to the game, he said, “Look, Arison, he likes to see what players do when the going gets tough.” And he said Arison had a bunch of really good days of practice, was doing extra work with Kim Dill, never complained once despite the fact that Ladara got three straight starts and then he delivers a game like this. I think that may have like we know that that John Tortoella really really liked Sam Harrison. He really really liked his his mental makeup I feel like more than anything. I think this may have bought him a little cache with Rick Tocket because Tocket just got to see a little bit of what Tors liked about Eri’s mental makeup and he watched it make two really really big clutch saves that gave the team a chance to win and he was real good in the shootout. So not a perfect game by Arison. No, but I thought he finished as strong as he could have and hopefully he can build off this going forward. Yeah, I was I was uh I was impressed and you just know he wants the opportunity because it’s a contract here. like he’s he’s still an RFA for one more year, but like he wants a long-term deal. If not here somewhere else, he wants the opportunity. And if he’s like watching every, you know, he’s only getting one out of every four, I can’t imagine that that’s like exciting an exciting proposition for him. And I think he’s earned himself, like Charlie said, maybe a little bit here with this performance. Sometimes it’s not about how many, it’s about when. And when was huge tonight. Um, Meech, we got to talk Mishekov. Charlie, is he the next Nolan Patrick? Oh god. I I I s I saw someone tweet that or something. Wow. Wow. That That was a pull. Um what was interesting about Mishkov’s game is that I thought I thought he was horrendous in the first period. The worst I’ve ever seen him play. Maybe one person uh tweeted at me and they said, “I counted eight turnovers by Mishkov.” So then I went back during intermission and went through every single one of his shifts. I counted six. There was a seventh one that was borderline because it was a it was a mis pass that led to an offsides, but it wasn’t really a turnover. But if you want to count that one too, seven turnovers for Mishkov in the first period. It was rough and obviously one of them leads directly to a short-handed goal. Although there’s there were there’s a lot of blame to go around on that one. It wasn’t just Mishkoff. That was a comedy of errors by everyone on the ice, including Samson. But Mishkov’s the guy who has the initial turnover, so he deserves a significant portion of blame. But I thought in the second and third he played better. And I think Rick Tocket thought he played better too because it was noteworthy to me that Mishkov got a shift in overtime. He got a shift near the end of regulation and he got a shootout opportunity. Obviously scores the game winner. So I did think he got better as the game went on that he was clearly the least effective of the three guys on that line. Ziggers and D’vorak were the drivers of the line and that’s it’s very weird to say that like yeah they that was the Flyers best line and Mishkov was the least important guy on the line but he was still important. and he makes a really good play on the um on the D’vorak goal. Uh and Rick Tocket actually pointed that out after the game. He said, “Look, you know, great pass by Zagris down to D’vorak.” Sure. But the pass from Mishkov to Ziggress, the cross ice pass up at the uh up at the blue line, that’s a that’s a playmakaker’s pass. That’s a really good play. A lot of guys would just dump that puck in. whereas Mishkov stops, he surveys and he finds Ziggress and flips the ice and then creates the circumstances for D’Vorak to get that goal. So I think Mishkov really bad first period, but I like the fact that he got better as the game went on because after the first I was thinking like this might be the worst game I’ve ever seen him play, but he was able to settle down. He was able to shake it off and then provide some real value the rest of the way. And I just like just like I said that I think Arison bought some uh bought some cache with with I think Meech might have bought some some with Tocket as well by the fact that he didn’t let one bad period turn into three bad periods. Right. Ultimately he helps the team win. He gets the shootout goal. He gets one of the key assists in the game and he’s also a presence in front of the net on that Zegris goal that uh D’vorak set up. So like he’s in there and he’s doing positive things. He bounces back from that first period. Love to see that. Now, not a big game on the score sheet for Owen Tippet as well, but I thought he had a strong showing. I thought he had some really good physical plays. He was using his speed well. I think he had what was it four or five shots in this game. Another big shot total for Owen Tippet. And he laid out Tony D’Angelo. So, really, what more could you ask for for Owen Tippet? What were your thoughts on Tippet and how he’s he just seems to be more assertive overall this season? Yeah, I tweeted this out to him in the game. I really like the the snarl that he’s adding to his game this year. I mean that that hit he had on D’Angelo, good hit by itself, but he knocks over D’Angelo and then D’Angelo gets up obviously chirping because he’s Tony D’Angelo, the guy never shuts up. And Tippet gave him like three or four cross checks afterwards. Like Tippet was legit angry. And this is a big guy. Like Owen Tippet is is a tall guy. He’s also a strong guy. I mean I I’ I’ve seen him in the locker room. He’s not skinny. Like he is built and he can play a mean game if he wants to. It seems like this year and maybe it’s just confidence. Maybe he’s just feeling good about himself. He’s feeling good about his game. And that gives him a little bit more not incentive, but just more oomph where he’s like, “Oh, yeah. You know, I’m I’m the alpha out here. I can flex my muscles a little bit.” It might just be that simple. But he’s playing meaner, and he’s obviously, as you said, playing more assertive. I I like the the sheer number of shots on goal that he’s been taking. I like the fact that he’s uh he’s just he just seems to be like commanding the ice in terms of carrying the puck more and you’re seeing fewer and fewer at least over the last few games of those glaring brainless errors that drive people up the wall with Tippet. He really hasn’t made many of them where you’re like what were you thinking? Most of the plays that he hasn’t made are just plays that he hasn’t made. It’s not because it was like a it it feels like he was like he got his controller pulled out of the machine. He just sometimes you don’t make a play, but it it’s not they aren’t plays where you’re just like, “What were you thinking?” Again, maybe that comes back to confidence. Maybe he’s just feeling good about himself. So, the plays are just getting strung together. Bill pulling random history is peak. I’m trying to think of when I mentioned history. It’s great to see Charlie. I’m loving it. Anyway, Charlie, um I I we got to get the stars, but I just want to know because you were just talking about Tippet. Were you present when Rick Tocket compared him to Miko Ranton? Because they mentioned it on the they mentioned it on the broadcast. I was like, I have to hear what the hell he actually said. Uh what was the was there like was there a legit comparison to Miko Randon? Yeah, I think it was after uh it was after a game maybe. I think it was like the big game he had the one where he just popped and and scored a bunch of goals and looked great from start to finish. I I think someone asked him kind of for his thoughts on Owen Tippet and Taka basically said, “Yeah, you know, when he’s playing like that, he reminds me a bit of Miko Ranton with the way that Ranton’s kind of like a big train flying down the ice.” I I don’t particularly like the comparison. I don’t think they’re that similar as players. Other than the fact that when Miko Ranton is playing his best, he’s basically unstoppable. And there have been long stretches over these last few games where Owen Tippet has looked unstoppable. It’s obviously got a long way to go before he’s Miko Raten, who is one of the, you know, best wingers in hockey, but Tippet’s starting to assert himself more. And Mika Ratton is is nothing except a very assertive player. Sure, he can strive for that. Why not? All right, Charlie, it is time for Charlie O’ Conor’s three stars of the game. You got some choices for this one. A nice 4-3 win for the Flyers. Who is star number three? Yeah, star number three, as I mentioned, I’m going with Bobby Brink. There were a lot of options here. could pick a lot of different guys, but I thought Brink overall was just very noticeable. He He was making plays. He was using his speed. He was forchecking well. Wasn’t perfect. He had some turnovers. There was one puck, I remember, that that hopped over a stick that ended a uh ended a cycle, but overall, I thought he was trying to make things happen consistently on a night where they were going to have to win this game on effort, not on exec on like perfect execution because the execution was not perfect. They were sloppy, especially with the puck. But when you have a guy like Brink who’s just work, work work, that helps. And I loved his play on that Zegris tying goal. I love the fact that he gets the puck and he carries it down. He’s going downhill. He’s got momentum, creates that rebound that Ziggress is able to put back into the crease and then it somehow bounces in. Really good all-around play by Brink. I just thought that he played the kind of game you need to play on a night when the team clearly isn’t firing on all cylinders in terms of sharpness. Bobby Brink, third star. Star number two. Star number two is Christian D’vorak. And and Christian D’vorak, I think, you know, this season he’s had moments, but overall, he’s not a guy who’s going to pop that often. He’s just not a particularly exciting player. He’s not a high-end skater. Doesn’t have that dynamic gear. He’s not an amazing playmaker or anything. And they’re kind of using him as the the stabilizing presence on the line with the exciting guys with Ziggress and Bishkov. So that lends itself even more to him being kind of a boring guy because he’s playing a bor he’s playing a boring role. His job on that line is to be the boring steady guy. Exactly. But I thought tonight obviously he has a really nice play um on his goal. You know, obviously Zaggers is going to get most of the hype on that one for the no look pass and it was a hell of a pass. But Z’vorak still has to make that move in front to put the puck in the net. And then D’vorak, I thought exactly. And then I thought D’vorak was really good um on the uh on the on the goal that uh that he set up for Ziggress. Nice play there, you know, getting the puck over to over to his teammate. Uh Christian D’vorak, you know, again, it’s never going to be flashy with him, but I thought this was a strong overall game and he’s an easy choice for second star. Uh I I can’t I I can’t even think of who might be tonight’s first star. Yeah, it’s Trevor Eagers. And it’s it’s really cool to think that he’s a point per game guy, you know, at this we’re only through eight games. not necessarily going to be a point- per game guy all year, 10% of the season. If he was struggling out of the gate, the whisperers would start coming back. You know, it would be, oh, is he not going to work with pocket? Oh, you know, the Anaheim stuff, you know, maybe Anaheim was right. Maybe he really isn’t that good. Instead, he’s rolling. And now we can talk about how excited we are to see what he can do that maybe he is a firstline caliber player. you know, if he’s if we’re through 30 games and he’s got 32 points, maybe the Flyers do think like, well, he’s already mastered the wing. Why not try him at center? Ziggers has been exciting. He’s making plays and he’s having a major major impact on this team. So many guys in the locker room after the game were talking about how his uh his his attitude is infectious. He’s just a very like talkative, outgoing guy. Likes to have fun. He it seems like he’s you know I they lost two guys in in Farabby and Frost who were really beloved in that room. Say what you will about their about their abilities on the ice about how frustrating they were a lot of time when they were playing in that room. They were loved. They were popular guys. And look, it’s not like Zegris is taking over that role, but it seems like he’s got that room feeling good about itself again because they weren’t. you know, in in the wake of those trades that kind of ripped the heart out of that locker room in terms of just having fun because those were those guys were two funloving guys. Obviously, we’re best friends. Seems like Ziggers has brought a little bit of that back and he’s producing a heck of a lot more than any of those guys did most of the time. So, Trevor Zagris, first star. All right, Charlie, what are you wearing to your Halloween party tonight? Um, I’m not going to reveal that. Oh, come on, Charlie. Charlie’s doing something he’s going to get cancelled over. That is not true. That is not true. It’s just that it’s it’s a funny costume and people at this party might be watching my show and I don’t want to spoil it. All right. All right. I will not I will not insist on a spoiler then. Crooked Tea. The only thing better is a strip sack in the Super Bowl. Crooked Tea. Go to crookedte.com to find a store near you. All right, where should we go next? I think the physicality element of this game was um it was a it was a major part of why the Flyers won. Able to match uh what the Islanders I it’s not the Lou team anymore. They’re not the identity line team anymore, but that’s kind of just how they were built, you know? It’s it’s I realize it’s it’s different management, maybe a different strategy, but it’s the same guys. It’s it’s a lot of the same guys like Casey Zikas is still out there like uh and I thought the Flyers matching that physicality and kind of taking it to them at times. You you mentioned uh Tippet with the hit on Tony D’Angelo. We saw Mishkov throw a hit at one point. Obviously Hathaway is just mixing it up as much as possible, but that whole fourth line got into that melee. I thought this was a they score the power play goal and we’re going to talk about the power play in a minute. um you know by imposing their will like getting to the net and not being afraid to take punishment and go to the dirty areas like Charlie said. I was impressed with this team’s just like overall effort today and it showed itself I thought in some of the physicality. Oh absolutely. They were really able and I was saying this in the I think the Kraken game where last season and maybe even the season before it often felt like when the Flyers were challenged physically they maybe wouldn’t rise to the occasion. they wouldn’t st, you know, stand up for their guys. And this team has yet again proven that they’re willing to stand up for their guys. I mean, Hathaway getting into it. The entire fourth line at one point. Yeah. Uh, a BS got uh, credited with a fight for the first time in his career, I believe. And, you know, I thought Haway stepping up and I think it was the fight with Mayfield, right? Yes. In the first period and that was huge. I think that’s a big thing for the team. Uh, Grabben has proven himself to be a great physical asset for this team. And just these guys not backing down. these guys standing in there. I mean, Mayfield in particular is a big darn boy over there. 6’4 209. That is an imposing threat. Not the best player, but he you saw his name a lot because he was in there mucking it up with the Flyers. So, the physicality was big. And even if you take it to maybe the offensive zone, we’re talking about the power play goal that they scored to tie the game up and that involved mucking it up in front of the net as you called it the tush push. I like to think of cleaning up the trash for the Muddy Ducks. Yes. But it’s all stuff at the end of the day that this team hasn’t really done for the past few years. And that’s getting into the mix in front of the net and pushing a dang puck into the back of the net because sometimes you got to score extra sloppy goals. And you know, I like them extra sloppy. Yeah, that’s uh they haven’t really had and I think like when we talk about the power play like they haven’t really had like a netfront presence in years. I thought maybe Grabben would work his way into that role. Uh but like you know Sean Couttori’s kind of got to be on the first power play because who else can win a faceoff on this team? There’s there’s elements of that. But like just to see them really work for that goal, get into the blue paint and fight for it. That was good to see. We got to talk about today’s game changer driven by Elkins Chevrolet. Uh together let’s drive. Bunch of opportunities for this one. I was having trouble choosing. Uh, but I’m going to go with Sam Harrison’s overtime save. Uh, that is a huge glove save to keep the game tied. Overtime, we were joking like, “So, we just watched like a pretty entertaining game.” And then in overtime, suddenly it was boring. Like, how there’s six skaters on the ice and suddenly this sucks. We just watched like one of the better Flyers Islanders games we’ve seen in years. The Islanders just got this triangle of death, this Bermuda triangle right in front of their net and wouldn’t take any chances, wouldn’t allow anything in and we questioned it, but then resulted in opportunities down the other way and I guess they lulled the referees to sleep because they were then allowed to put an extra guy on the ice and they get real bad. They get that big chance and Samerson is there to make the save. Listen, I know the numbers weren’t awesome for Ace today. He gave up two goals in the first six shots and I was like, “Oh, here we go.” But he rebounded and was awesome. Won them the game. I saw a comment a few minutes ago that was like, “He basically saved the game three times.” He absolutely did. Those overtime saves are tough because you have just there’s so much open ice. There’s so much space and the ability for the teams to make just, you know, crease to crease passes that go across and that’s so hard to cover. I mean, you saw it with the D’vorak goal today where it’s just hard to go side to side in the crease. And you know, that’s an amazing save right there. And overall, what you’re asking for from Eri, especially if he is ultimately your backup goalender, is you’re asking for him to give your ch team a chance to win. I said that in the Carolina game that they lost in overtime, and I’ll say it again today. He’s giving them a chance to win. And that’s something they didn’t do with the goalending last year. That’s a team I don’t know how much closer to the playoffs they are, but if they get decent goalending, they’re not the third, fourth worst team in the league last year. Fourth worst is what I think they ended up at. They’re not the fourth worst team in the league last year if they get mediocre goalending. They make the playoffs a couple years ago if they get mediocre goending. So th this is the hunt this year is for mediocrity. If we can get mediocre goending and nobody does mediocrity like the Philadelphia Flyers, damn it. If there’s one thing they’re great at is that and now they actually have an opportunity at it. We’re 16th best, baby. Let’s go. Number 16 is Bobby Clark and we’re 16th best. It’s it’s absolutely tremendous. Uh because Charlie, I don’t know. Was that Charlie segment like extra long or am I just doing math bad? But we only have a few minutes left in the show, so I got to throw it to the next break. All right. I could really Yeah, it’ be fantastic. Ashley’s great. Love Ashley. All right. Uh what else do we have left? Ah, the power play, Steve. The power play and then we’ll hit some super chats. Um almost a disastrous day for the power play, which overall I felt like has rebounded from the Tortoella years, but it’s it’s it was looking bad. We keep saying visually it’s better. And the first period it was not. No. uh first period was and part of that’s on our boy Matt Vishkov cuz he was just turning over the puck like it was like he was the joker giving away money in Batman 89. Charlie said he went back and counted seven turnovers. I was like estimating three or four and I was like it’s probably three and I’m being hyperbolic by saying four and then he was like no I went back and counted it’s like six and a half six and a half. Oh that’s horrible. Yes in the first period that’s that’s every time you touch the puck. Uh, but I feel like it’s always so different when you’re watching it on TV versus like when you’re there and you could see a lot of it and then, you know, Charlie’s obviously smarter than us and better stuff than us. So, Charlie’s going back and counting all of them. They uh I’m just a very nice I’m a very forgiving guy. I’m like, “Oh, he didn’t mean it.” I just forget. I’m just like I don’t know. I also forget. It was eight minutes ago. I don’t know. Uh but the the power play when they give up the short-handed goal, they at that point had scored three and given up two. A plus one goal differential on the power play is bad. It is bad. That is not good. It’s not good. That is absolutely terrible. They end up getting the clutch goal uh on the power play late in the game to tie it. And that was all well and good. They got to figure something out with that first unit though because it’s really most of the good plays coming on the power play is coming from the Kades Forester Brink line with I think Zegress with that group. Yeah. And that’s the York group I think. Or the York group. Yeah. And they’re just so much better right now. Like they just are confident. They’re going in and they’re getting to the dirty areas. And I think you need somebody to get into those dirty areas somewhere. And I can’t believe it’s Bobby Brink again. What Charlie was saying about Bobby Brink, this looks like a new player on the team this year. I always liked Bobby Brink and I thought Bobby Brink was solid last year, but he just has a spark to him this year. He’s just a difference maker this year that I feel like he hasn’t been before. And his aggression throwing the pucks on net, getting the puck in deep, that was huge. And Kate’s also getting in there. Kate’s getting in the mix like he did today. That’s why the Flyers won this game is because they could come through on the power play, get to the dirty areas, and force that puck in 100%. All right, let’s hit some super chats. I believe we have a bunch of them, so let’s get right to it. Uh, I’m right on the time. We started at 39, right, Bren? Okay, cool. All right, first one here. First one here from JH. He says, uh, Samuel brick wall revenge tour beginning. Uh, many people are saying it. Hashend Parson. Um, listen, he played well today. I am hoping he can hold this role. I and and work towards earning more like he did in that stretch where we were like, “Oh my god, is this guy even better than Hart?” Like, “Oh, we he needs to start half the games. It needs to be a 50-50 tandem.” It’s because he was playing not all that often and doing really well in that role. I don’t think it needs to be two out of every three or three out of every four of Lar. I think it should be a little more even than that until we get to Yeah, man. If it still looks like this in December and it’s, “Yeah, he’s playing better, but he’s got an 889 and Venar’s still in the 920s, like well, okay, he’s the number one.” But I do think this was a good building block for him, gain some confidence, beat a team he beats all the time, and make make the saves that won them the game. I would like to see more of the man I I lovingly call the son of errors over there. Like, I want to see him in there. I want, but I feel like he’s just been given so many opportunities at this point to be the starter and hasn’t embraced it. I’m hoping that this 50/50 split can be better for him. And yeah, I do want it to be a little bit more even. So hopefully they can get there. But this was great today. Yeah. All right, let’s go to Purple Crayon. Purple Crayon says typic goal pace 51 and a quarter. He’s slipping. He needs to pick it back up. Quite honestly, if he doesn’t score 60 goals, what are we even doing? What are we even doing? Why are we paying this guy fiveish million a season? I think another four shots for Owen Tippet today. I actually have to say very happy with his game today. Yeah, absolutely. And uh with that, we got to send it to overtime. Uh go to allphy.com to finish watching the show. All right, this next one here is from Brandon Martin. Says, “Who is most likely to be the Flyers future captain, Mishkov, Seagris, or Zamula?” Oh, Zamula. Yeah. Yeah, easily. I always I always had the for a while the and like it’s gonna be it’s gonna be Couttoriier forever because like his contract doesn’t end till 2030 like we still have a while of coots but it’s uh I always figured oh yeah you put you the sea on your best player because the captain’s real on ice responsibility is talking to the officials and if you have a relationship with the officials you can get superstar calls and then I watch Jaru not get superstar calls for a decade and realized I wanted actually I want a Jason Smith style captain. Just give me that guy. Just give me the old grizzled vet who isn’t one of the star players and he like you know what and no one’s ever going to do blame Jason Smith when you lose a playoff series. Like oh Chris Pronger obviously we got to obviously we got to blame the captain because they don’t have a number one defenseman or a number one goalie. So you need a straw man like yes you need a straw man. He’ll never blame that sort of captain and we can just take that out of the conversation. Also, the real answer is Porter Martone. Yeah, maybe. Maybe. Uh, I love it. I love talking captain stuff, but we got to do it when Charlie’s here. The C is Listen, I do love I actually love it. I’m not going to lie. I love it cuz I think the C is just the coolest thing in sports. It’s so cool. The Keystone C on that Winter Classic jersey is still the coolest thing the Flyers have ever done on I was a captain my entire career, middle school, high school, and then my senior year the coach didn’t give me a C. And if you’re wondering if I’m still bitter about it, yes, cuz I’m bringing it up at work 18 years later. Damn right he’s bitter about it. I am very, very upset about it 20 years later, whatever the hell it’s been. All right. Uh, next one here. Next one here from J Fion. Uh, I thought the offense would be better this season, but the D and goalending performances thus far have surprised me. Still suit too soon for me to believe they make the playoffs. Agree or disagree. I think the offense is going to just be hot and cold because they it it’s a young offense. Um, we need to get a little Tippet’s doing his job. Still need to get a little bit more out of TK. Obviously, Meech need we need more out of him. If those guys are going along with the Kates line, along with Zegris, then like yeah, we’ll have a we’ll have a functioning top nine, a really good forward group. But the defense and goalending, I think, has been um surprisingly good. I would agree with that. Yeah, I had very low expectations for certain aspects of the defense. I think I’m higher on the defense than a lot of people. Uh Jules I was not excited for at all. It’s been solid and I think overall the defense has been solid and Vladar has been such a surprise for me. I did not expect this rock solid performance out of I thought he’d be fine. I thought he’d be like average goalie we’ve been asking for. I thought he’d be better than Fed Ottov which I think you could go into goal tomorrow and be better than Fedo. It just seems hard not to get hit with 90% of the shots especially when you’re 67. That’s like it just seems like a difficult thing to do, but he figured out how and and Var is very good at I will be in the middle of the net and stop many shots with my large body. All right. Uh, next one here. Another one from JH. Sam robbed of a star in a South Philly parking lot. Listen, a lot of bad stuff happens in South Philly parking lots, okay? It’s just how it is. I uh I was a little surprised uh that he went brink tippet instead of Sam. If he had gotten a 900 save percentage, he would have gotten it. Bill, that’s awesome. I guess so. I guess we Matt Mishkov needs to not throw at a guy with two men on him. I guess so. Anyway, uh from Melan Brink and Tippet had great games. They did. They did. I was just a little surprised it wasn’t Aris because Charlie likes standing up for Arison when I criticize him. And today he had like I thought I thought he had a legitimately good game and uh no star from Charlie. I guess he’s turned on him. All right. from Melerman says, “Keep saying that Sam is playing better than his numbers because it’s true. He needs consistency, but today shows why you don’t give up on his talent.” No, he was I thought legitimately good tonight. Sometimes it’s Yeah, man. Make one more save though. Uh and tonight he actually did that. Today he actually did the make the one more save. Was he perfect? No. Like Charlie said, but when you have clutch saves the way he made them, like that’s the most important thing from your goalie. Absolutely. Absolutely. He kept the Flyers in the game and he uh he did win it for them in overtime. He won it for them. Yeah. All right. Uh and from DA power play man. Uh I don’t power the district attorney power play man. Yeah. I don’t care if they have Zegris play on the blue line as long as he keeps scoring like this. Yeah. That would be fun. That’s what the Vorax for. Yeah. That’s that’s what the Forex for. But like Yeah. The the position thing it’s just like the Flyers need centers. Zegris a natural center. We want him to work there, but if ultimately he’s just better served on the wing and he’s a point of game player like he is at this current time, I’m not going to complain about that. Now, they do have a ton of wingers. Maybe you can use some of them in a trade to acquire some defenseman and centers, but for right now, the position is less important than him just looking good, feeling good. Yeah. Playing good. That’s pretty much what it comes down to. Looking good, Billy Ray. And finally from Obi-Wan, uh, Meow. All right. What’s up? What’s up, Obie? I I I bet that was at I bet that was at Charlie cuz Charlie was looking dapper today. He was looking dapper. He was. Yeah. Obviously, he has a party to go to. The meow just makes me think of kitten mittens. It You’ll be smitten. It makes me think of Super Troopers. All right. Right. And that’s it. Right. We don’t have anything else. All right. So proud of this team. I do not know how the season will play out, but it seems as though they will not be an easy out. They play hard for one another and for us. Proud indeed.
Apologies for the camera glitching…maybe the cameras were just as excited for Zegras' first goal as a Flyer! We'll get it fixed by Monday. 🧡
Man Z is awesome
The best thing that happened with Tippett getting so hot last week was the "demotion" of Michkov to the line with Z & Dvorak… I feel this line should've started the season but regardless I am happy it did not take half of the season to see it … Just wait until MM catches his stride this line will can be lethal!!! And if they are to become playoff contenders, I feel very confident about our Top-9 as presently constructed as they grow as a cohesive unit!!!
Mm getting there 1 point
Winning games like this is what you need to continue progressing from a crappy team to a good team. Very encouraging step one tenth the way into the season. Loved the guts today.
Good W today. We all know charlie is dressing up as medieval gritty.
That Said Hair
michov is starting to build up steam he was noticeable in good way
zegress started that shootout goal like he was drunk or didnt care then goes into the goalie scores 😂😂
michov is getting there
zegress 56 assists for 74 points
Was driving from Phoenix to Sierra Vista for my Grandsons's second birthday… listening to game on NHL Network and…made the drive a damn pleasure! Some strangers on the road likely think I'm insane…..lol …and they would we be right!
Big game….Z!!! Zegras looking so much better in Flyer Orange and black then those hideous Unis in that Micky Mouse town!!! Big win, Boys! Finding ways to steal a win and better yet…steal some points for a divisional rival!
Let's go Flyers!!!
Irony: When you're halfway through the Xfinity ad and Xfinity decides now's the time to force-push a reboot to your modem for no reason…
…For the 8th time…
…This week.
Putting the "C" on your best player instead of your best leader is a surefire way to ruin their career, how many more times do we need to see that happen in the NHL before we realize it's just a shitty way to do it
Let the talented players be talented
Let the leaders lead
Guys I’m 52 and a life long flyers fan.they won there cups when I was born ,so I’ve gone my entire as my number 1 sports team in Philly not seeing a cup..please please pass along don’t rush anything we have core too win a cup just let them grow up together.we don’t need need defense we have them here ,they just need to age like whiskey.a goalie is our only piece I don’t see yet.enjoy watching these kids grow together and when they win it ,it will be so gratifying
59:01 the Flyers’ future captain is obviously Emil Andrae idk what you guys are talking about
camera glitching, i thought it was my connection for a minute🤣😂I'm so happy about Zs game , if he stays the course all year , DB should go to jail for that rubbery😂🤣There s also Grebenkin Luv this guy he should be on 4th line always . and eventually bump up on MM and Z line . think we should all (chiil out) about MM, Nolan Patrick. CMON,😆 MM could get 50pts this year and i will be ok with that. LETS Gooo Flyers
