MLB Insider Drops BOMBSHELL… Padres Free Agency NEWS

Hot stove continues to cook. Baseball fans, we got to talk about more Padres’s related headlines, rumors, and other things going on as the off season continues to churn out a bunch of headlines, and we’ll sort them out for you to try and find out which ones are clickbait and which ones are not. On this episode of Padre’s Digest, let’s talk about some pitching. What’s going on everybody? Christian Patterson back with another episode. If you want to comment on anything pitching related, love hearing from you guys. I think that um you you in the comment section are a tad bit more defeated than I am right now and I I’m on the hope springs eternal vibes. But hey, I love it. I love hearing from you. Also, if you want to subscribe, I’m not going to be mad at you, but I I it’s I I only bug in these videos at the very beginning and then at the very end. So, let’s talk about the headline that I’m talking about. This one right here from Sports Illustrated. Padres’s linked to allstar pitcher from NLS rival in free agency. D. It’s the one in the middle, Zack Gallon. Zack Gallon is the Here’s how they summarize. CE and Cortez are both entering free agency. uh Michael King is expected to opt out of the final of his deal and that Jim Bowden is saying that Zack Gallon, the Arizona Diamondbacks um all former all-star pitcher is uh going to be linked to the Padres’s as a potential landing spot. The rationale that he gives um is is kind of summarized here of after having an All-Star season in 23 and making a World Series appearance and pitching, you know, more than just well, pitching very well. uh in 2025 he basically posts career highs in all the bad categories or career wor he had his worst year and that him having his worst year opens up the potential the opportunity for him to be sort of a you know a a hidden gem right now that somehow is going to get a fiveyear hundred million dollar deal or something like it’s No matter what, pitchers are getting a little bit overpaid, but that’s another video for another day. But so Zack Gallon, the the article kind of closes out with basically just summarizing that Gallon is good still. Gallon can still be good. Gallon will still be good. He just is a guy who needs a change of scenery. that change of scenery. It goes on to list a couple of other teams, but it says that the Padres’s to to to the Sports Illustrated guy, the Padres’s seem like a fit because of having a bad year. Teams going to want to take aren’t going to want to take a huge chance on him. So, uh, you know, he’s in maybe that like one tier down of ex of how much he’s going to cost a team. And I think there’s a lot to unpack there. I have no ill or or positive will towards Zack Gallon. Zack Gallon is somebody who I have not studied enough to necessarily know like oh yeah like you know his delivery was a little off or his this or his that. I I can totally believe that these numbers right here are due in at very least part to the fact that sometimes like a baseball season can be a grind and if you’re on the third or even fourthish best team in a division that includes the Dodgers and the Padres’s and the I I’m not going to a the professionals don’t hold themselves to the highest of standards at every single game. But I could see where maybe if you’re already not having your best year ever out the gate, how a little apathy could set in. And then yeah, like if you wind up in a new situation where when you’re going every 5 days, it’s in the middle of a rotation that’s got some oomph and some opportunity and you’ve got a good offense and all things clicking. And that that is every team’s ideal is to bring a pitcher in and be like, “Hey, we’re going to get the best out of you.” But in this specific I I will I will I will absolutely entertain that that Zack Gallon could be available for the Padres’s in a way that makes him highly affordable and and fits him in. Here’s what currently the Padres’s have listed right now uh on the on the the team website for their death chart. Apologies for the small number for the small names here for those of you that are watching on the phone, but it it’s Pavetta King Cece, Darvish, uh JP Sears, Kyle Hart, Nester Cortez, Joe Wald Waldron. Don’t know why I called him Joe Waldron. uh and uh Michael King and uh you know of this and we’re going to lose they’re saying King Cortez Musrove down in there at the end. So it you know this number is going to start dwindling and I’m all for adding whatever amount of support. This is the number right here of starting pitchers that it takes legitimately it would seem to to like make it through a season. So that being said, like I am down to entertain the conversation of the Padres’s need to add arms. They need to throw some stuff against the wall and ste see what sticks. Paveta is going to be I think solid again. I maybe not have his best year, maybe not have his worst year, but I don’t see anything like he doesn’t scream fall off. Um Darvish, if he makes it through a full season, if he even attempts a season, if he moves to the bullpen and becomes John Smoltz, I don’t like that is unknown and unresolved yet. Um, but Pavetta Musgrove, I’m fine with that as a one, two. The conversation for Kyle Hart and JP Sears is going to be, do we want to give one of them a shot at like getting a lefty in our rotation? Okay. I don’t think that either of them are going to necessarily endear themselves in a way that it’s like, ah man, they’re perfect. They’re the secret weapon. But I’m down. We had the same conversation when we brought Netor. like it’s not a bad thing to have. Um, but past that, like Waldron ultimately never really got it together last year in a way that was like to me indicative of growth in his game. I think we kind of know what he’s capable of highs and lows wise and we can run him back out there and we can get we can we can get more of that. We can, you know, have Randy Vasquez be Journeyman. Randy just absolutely being a fan favorite but statistically being one of the not great ones in the game. So we do need some middle guys. We need that like we have even when this gets raided by free agency and people leaving. I think that there is like we have a couple of ones and we have our one and two. We have a couple of fours and fives. We don’t really have like a three guy. So I’m down with Gallant being that guy. But am I am I down to jump all over that and settle early and just be like boom, we got Zack Gallon locked in. I don’t know. I still I just kind of get the feeling that the Padres’s pitching solutions are not of are not out there right now. That what I look at in the free agency landscape like things like this like getting Zack Gallon for 12 million a year to be our three. I if if the rationale is, oh, that guy’s going to bounce back just because he’s in a different location. I just to me it’s not a concrete enough thing to be like, oh, this truly like moves the needle on the Padres’s versus just being like, we’re going to wait. We’re going to see what happens in terms of other teams, uh, falling off, needing trades at at injury. Like, there’s going to just be pieces that start moving that I think then Prowler can go in and be like, “Okay, bang, bang, bang. That’s where we really on the discount get a couple of arms swooped up and make this I I don’t even have specific trades in mind. So that’s why it’s still kind of a lot of offseasony stuff that this is all fun to play GM. And that’s why I say drop a comment. But let’s talk specifically initially about Zack Allen. Do you like him? Do you not like him? Do you like the rationale? Do you not like the rationale? Um and then beyond that, let’s just talk about all the pitching. What do you want to see? How do you want to solve this? Do you want to try even with with some of these guys? Like do you want to give Kevin Hart and Sears and any of those guys another chance at it? or do you just want to kind of move on from that and check out other options? Let me know in the comments section. As always, if you want to hit the subscribe, much appreciate it. Talk to you guys soon.
