Stephen A. Smith GOES OFF on Jerry Jones 😬 ‘Your defense is what’s TRASH’ | First Take

First take ahead of Cardinals Cowboys will be mustsee TV. Meanwhile, earlier this week, Jerry Jones admitted that he was too busy with his natural gas business interests to spend time trying to fix his team’s poor defense. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Jones said, quote, “There’s $100 billion present value with natural gas out there. That’s why I’m talking to you on the telephone rather than trying to fix our defense with the Dallas Cowboys. Dak Prescott was asked about those comments yesterday. But you read the comment and and being honest with you, I don’t know the full full context of it. I do know that a piece of it and u but being a fan and you just read that or hear that. Yeah, of course. um especially right as as many fans are and do and thankful that they do live and and breathe by this team. That could definitely be frustrating. Um but in that sense, I would just say like the guy’s never really lied about who he is or or what he’s trying to do. And I think right there he’s just I mean hopefully he was talking about in that one particular moment. You know, maybe in those five minutes is what he was alluding to and having a chance at hundred billion dollar opportunity. I think he might take five minutes as well and go and go answer a call. So hopefully that’s what he means, right? And um but I can see I can be frustrating once again for us as players. We control, we can control 100 billion Dallas’s defense. 100 billion Dallas’s defense. Do you see Jerry’s comments as problematic? Jerry, what you doing? What are you doing? What kind of ignorant ass statement is that? You can’t do that if the Dallas Cowboys miss the playoffs, right? Because they make no move to improve a defense that was clearly compromised once Micah Parsons was let go. They’re going to hold on to that quote, Jerry. Did you have to say that to the Wall Street Journal? You couldn’t have kept that to yourself. What? How about I not even think that you’re worth 13 16 billion? 60 billion. 60 million. Okay. You the franchise worth 13 billion. Okay. You already you already made the the the billions. Go ahead, make more. But in the middle of a season where you have one of the most prolific offenses around, if not the most prolific offense around, and everybody in their grandmama knows that your defense is what’s trash, which is why you’re called the Dallas Cowboys instead of the Dallas Cowboys because you got to take the D out of it with Michael Bares being gone and not being able to get to the quarterback. And now you got to sit up there and contemplate what we could do to better position ourselves. So my $60 million quarterback who’s been bowling, who’s an MVP candidate, regardless of what just happened in Denver last weekend, I mean, to know what they’re giving you and to know what they’re Why would you say that? We all know I got love for Jerry. Come on, man. I’m looking forward to seeing him Monday, but my god, why would you say something like that? that Prescott would have been totally justified if he had said, “Man, that’s effed up. That that’s effed up. You don’t need to be saying something like that, man. You you I maybe you did mean it, but now I need to I need to call you or I need to walk up because it ain’t that long of a walk. I’m here to tell you I’ve been at the stuff. It ain’t that long of a walk for the practice for the practice field up to Jerry’s office.” You understand what I’m saying? You taking that walk before it’s a five minute walk. It’s a five-minute walk. I can walk right upstairs. What you doing? Why would you say something like that? You getting on the phone? You going to get me somebody? You going to get somebody to help improve our defense because you know what? Offensively, we going to do our thing. You going to do something? Since you said that, Jerry, now you really got to do something. Come on, man. Come on, man. I’m just saying you just you listen. Optics matter. Yep. You know, verbiage matters. Words matter. Regardless of what everybody want to act like, words matter. You understand? You cannot say that, Jerry. You cannot say that. And I applaud Dak for handling it the way he did because he actually said a lot even though he didn’t say it. You knew exactly what Dak was alluding to and I give him credit for that. Very disappointed in Jerry’s comment. You’re telling Jerry No, no, no, no. See, he now has thrusted himself into rare air. We already knew he was petty by the fingers that he decides to use the fans. He’s petty with that comment. He’s basically done went from Jerry Jones to Jerry Jacobe Jones because that ain’t you know what I’m saying that he literally said you not about to tell me what I can do when I know exactly who I am and what I need to do. So that five minute walk better come with a little tiptoe and two because you’re not going to tell me what are you doing? It’s my team. Now, this is the thing that we all have seen Jerry Jones do right in front of our eyes is play possum. Oh, man. I don’t know what’s going on. He’s going to say something. He’s going to say something even with your interview with him. He did it. Yes, he did. He played possum and he knows exactly what he’s doing and he’s extremely intentional for what he’s doing. Now, the thing that Jerry Jones knows, like everybody knows, he knows what he has to fix. But if you don’t think that Jerry Jones and his sons are are are trying to make a groundbreaking play that’s really going to put people at, oh man, just because when he shows you that, oh man, he played too much, he also shows you his brilliance from the business side as well as running a team. We’ve seen this how he did Michael Parsons. So, yes. Is it the professional way to mention $100 billion, $100 billion when you already got 16? Just give me one half of it at least. I would appreciate that. But at the same time, we all know that Jerry Jones is well equipped of doing and being in this position and still thriving, too. I just well equip equipped to be in the position of running a team. Now, we do know that Will Mcclelay runs the team there. Will Mccclelay makes a lot of the personnel decisions and that’s why the draft has been so good. Now Jerry Jones makes all of the other decisions. As my grandfather was getting older, whenever I would be nervous whenever one of my cousins or my aunt’s would come over who had got a little fluffy because he didn’t have the thing in his brain that would stop him from being like, “Girl, are you pregnant?” Lord, right? And so, but we would always have to say, “Oh, man. You know, Pat mean it like that.” Like, he he ain’t mean that. That’s where Dak is with Jerry Jones. Now, Dak understands who he’s defending. Dak knows exactly who he is. That’s why he had the smirk on his face when he said when he goes, “This man’s never lied to y’all about who he is.” Now, Cam could be right as well. He could be having something working behind the scenes that they’re trying to get a Trey Hendrickson, that they’re trying to get a Max Crosby. But even if they aren’t, what you going to tell him? I told y’all at the beginning of the season, it is more important for Jerry Jones to make money than to win Super Bowls. And because of people like Stephen A. Smith, who is bringing the great first take down to Dallas to talk about a team that’s not above 500, he going to keep making money and he going to show up on your show on the Stephen A. Smith show and he going to say some more things that he may mean or he not may not mean. And those clips gonna go viral and people gonna pay more attention to the Dallas Cowboys. So it really doesn’t matter if Jerry Jones finds somebody that can rush the passer or stop the run or find a way to win games because no matter what he’s going to be talked about. You know what’s another great show? You know what’s another great show? Inside the NBA. It’s a great show, right? When I when I think of Stephen A. Smith, when I think of Stephen A. Smith, the only other people you can talk about is like Charles Barkley. You know, you can talk about Shaq. You talk about Kenny, Ernie Johnson. Do they do football? Nope. You know the last team they talked about? Cowboys. The Dallas Cowboys. So if I’m Jerry Jones, you right. I’mma be out there like Billy Bob Thornton on land man walking freaking oil field to oil field to make that money cuz Stephen A. Smith going to make the money for the Cowboys for me. Well, first of all, I have no problem making money for people as long as there’s something in it for me. Let me get that out the way. Let me get that out the way right now. Very important point. That’s very, very important point. Very important. So it can’t just be day money. No, no, no, no, no, no. I’m going to get some of it. I’m going to get some of it. Hey, wake up every day. How you make some people money? How you get some of it? I You know what you sound like, Dazelle? I’m leaving with something. I’m leaving with something. I’m leaving with something. No doubt. Having said that, here’s the problem. When you look at Jerry Jones, listen, here’s where my sens and I want to say this. This is where my sensitivity lies. When you sit down with him and you talk to him, the one thing that resonates in terms of his personality and why he is the way that he is and why he ain’t backing up from anything that he does, he’s going to be him. He never fails to bring up not one, not two, but the $3 billion lawsuits against him. When he first arrived and he was trying to build the Cowboys, he was borrowing money. He had nothing. You know, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting to and talking to his wife and all the stuff that, you know, you know, he was they they were worried he was contemplating suicide because he had nothing. He went all in and he was in debt and didn’t know if it was going to work. Going to banks, lying every day to borrow more money. He leans on that because he wants you to know, you know, that he’s self-made. Not that he’s a billionaire, that he’s a self-made one. You understand what I’m saying? That’s big to him. And everything that he does leads on the self-made part. The problem is when you let that, whether it’s through verbiage or your pride or your actions get in the way of what you say your primary goal is, it don’t matter in the crevices of your heart. Getting that extra money matters so much. People talking about you matter so much. In the end, you are the owner and the president of the Dallas Cowboys. That is a football team. It has been 29 years since you have been in a conference championship game. General manager, too. Okay. It was a general manager, too. But I bring him Stephen Jones cuz you know he plays World Too. But the point is 29 years. Like damn. 29 years. And so now you got an offense that’s all world that can step onto the field and give an opportunity to beat anybody. And you gonna sit up there and say when everybody know your defense is trash, the Dallas Cowboys, that’s what their name is. Okay. And I’ll say it when I’m at Texas Live Monday. Yeah, I’m coming. Oh, I’m coming. You think she’s showing out today? Wait till you see me Monday. Private or commercial. I’m saving my energy. Whatever energy you see me having, I’m actually saving some of it just for y’all Monday from Texas. Oh, I’m coming for y’all. Okay. My point is when you go through all of that and you see that yo bro you you I’ve seen you in front of me talking about the importance of winning. I see how much has hurt you when you lost. I’ve seen him in those moments off camera and I’m like you getting in your own way. You can’t just go out there. Why would you say something like that to the Wall Street Journal? Why would you have your team for one second thinking? I’m telling you everybody can’t receive it that way. If if you’re looking at the Dallas Cowboys right now, you going like this. Yo, man, we need something. We need something. You talking about some damn some damn oil deal. You going to do that anyway. I need you to do this. That’s what I mean when I say I’m Dak Prescott. I’m walking up to that office. It don’t matter that I know who you are. I want to let you know, yo man, you paying me $60 million and I’m coming in your office getting paid $60 million and telling you to your face that ain’t good enough. You can’t say something like that. Come on, Jerry. You cannot say something like that. Not in the middle of the damn season. I got one line, Jerry. One line. One line. Wise words was always said, “Don’t let your right hand know what your left hand doing.” Okay. [Music]

  3. Jones bought the Cowboys for $140 million The Dallas Cowboys, valued at $14.1 billion in 2024, has been the NFL's most valuable franchise since 2007 and the most valuable sports franchise in the world since 2016. I think he knows exactly what he is doing making money and SAS can keep crying about how unsuccessful they have been while Jerry keeps rolling in the cash…….most valued sports franchise in the WORLD

  4. Ryan Clark finally said the quiet part about Jerry & SAS.. he can ask whats wrong w/ JJ all he wants but he still gon skip down there & keekee in his face over a 3-4-1 football team..

  5. He would invest more in the Cheerleaders of Dallas then the Football team … not a bad Buiness move but not a good look as a Franchise my opinion side note Adore those DCC Gals…

  6. jerry owns the team—not social media or any other woke sports broadcast ..clark and bubble gum stephen make their from money from trying to sound like they can mange the cowboys——-try a another angle —how about the raiders–titans …na it does not get clicks.

  7. The Cowboys Team is his side project. If he gets to them, he'll get to them. They're in his She Shed until Sunday then he's done with them until next weekend.

  8. Jerry Jones didn't do anything wrong . All he did was SAY OIL MONEY MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE DALLAS COWBOYS FOOTBALL TEAM. LOOK THE DALLAS COWBOYS TEAM GONNA ALWAYS MAKE MONEY UNLESS THEY START HAVING LOSING SEASONS. BUT HEY JERRY GET THAT OIL MONEY EVERYBODY WOULD GET THAT OIL MONEY πŸ’°

  9. Jerry is a money man 100 billion is different then the Dallas defense but it's up to the ppl he's paying to figure it out πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ GO BIRDS πŸ¦…πŸ¦…πŸ¦…πŸ¦…πŸ¦…
