I think they were on the road, weren’t they? I think they’re this might have been their second Chicago. They got popped by dude. First game back, R 10 years ago. 12 years ago, what was our worst game of the season? First game back. Minnesota on a Tuesday. Yeah, that’s what the Flames are. It’s Flames on a Thursday. The Sens are not going I keep referencing it. They put the lineup on the wall. No one’s walking by that lineup going, “Holy, I’m not going to be able to sleep this afternoon.” No, they’re basically saying, “Guys, can we not screw this up, please? and then 3-2 in the third and like guys we weren’t going to screw this up. You know that’s what it was after two periods cuz Flames actually looked like the better team I thought through two periods looked very sleepy for the Senators and then the first two or three minutes of the third as Sh Reley was stand on his head and they’re flying around. I mean yeah that was if I was to guess if you were to ask Travis Green probably one of their poorest efforts of the season. And we always talk about this from the other side of the coin. Like when the Flames had the top line of the league and it was Kachchuck and Gdro and Lindholm and you were in first place in your division and you won the West or whatever, it was like, “Oh, now don’t overlook this last place team.” You know, like I know you got Edmonton on the weekend, but you got to go into San Jose. Like don’t don’t be sleep. The Flames are that team now. They’re in 32nd. They have the weakest limp noodle offense in the NHL. like they are the team that is gonna throw their backup in at you and say, “Boys, don’t screw it up. If we just put in 60 minutes, we’re fine.” That’s the team the Flames are on the out of town scoreboard now. They don’t want to hear it, but it’s true. Like, they didn’t play helluck once last year. Yeah, it doesn’t sound nice when you say it out loud, but it’s true. But Dean, you started the show saying 0 for six. Just not taking a shot at them. It’s what they are. This is their last place. I said this, you know, I was saying this to Gould that when you look at So, they’ve played whatever 12 games. So, let’s say it’s six and six. the games that game against Vegas that there were some shoddy efforts and they were getting blown out they couldn’t score they just they looked disinterested I would say they look more competitive more interested they have played better they have scored more goals they have the same number of wins in those six games as they did in the first six so it’s even with noticeable improvements yeah but across the board it’s not done anything for the win column. But what are you improving from? Uh a historically bad offense that was going to be worse than the Savers in their teachers. Yeah. If the teachers grading you, you you started out at an F, you’re at a D minus. That’s better. That’s improvement. Mhm. Way to go. Way to dig in. Baby steps. Maybe next month we’ll get a C minus. But no, like I think when you look at the beginning of the home stand because it was an ugly road trip, Utah Vegas, you know, they got heavily pumped. [ __ ] saves their bacon or that one could have been ugly, but it was a good effort against Winnipeg at home. Um, you know, I thought the Grangers, they score five, that’s great. You score three in Winnipeg, that’s not easy. You get another three in Toronto, three tonight. It’s like at least it’s not the just get, you know, we my goalie allowed two and we’re losing. Like they’re better, but they’re still it’s like what Rhett says. They’re they’re now not the worst offense in the history of the league. They’re just a bad team this year. Does it scream of a team that’s desperate to dig out of the hole they’re in or does it scream of a team that’s we are what we are? This is just it’s definitely more of the latter for sure. Um but at the same time it’s just like I don’t know what it looks like when they try really hard in the sense that it’s like there’s just not a lot of skilled guys like who’s going to score three tonight and put them on their back. Yeah, that’s my point is that I don’t have they been okay? Yeah, they’ve been fine. Whatever. Yeah. And and that’s still not good enough. They over that stretch you have one win. That’s it. Yeah. a winner and a loser. So So okay, let’s prorate this then. Oh boy. Are are is this what I think the last going to have four is closer to what they were last year than the first seven because I’m trying to do math on the fly here. Um like I like their effort. They lose to Winnipeg at home. You know, they beat New York. They get three in Winnipeg. There’s another home game I’m forgetting about. And then, you know, like Toronto, Ottawa, they’re they’re in these games. They have one nothing and two-1 leads in both games. They have a lead with five minutes left in the third tonight. Like, I don’t think Ottawa was anywhere near their best, but you know, you could have won that game. But I guess that’s just what I’m saying. So, even how well minus the minus the 12 games already, they got 70 left. They’re not winning half. Okay, I have in the Pinter board, but let’s throw to it now. 96 points they had last year. Okay, maybe it’s just a bad start. So, what do you need to do to get back to where you were last year? I thought Rhett, didn’t you say to him, “Stop talking about 96 points?” No. And this isn’t for us cuz we know, but just to remind this team, they have to play at a 643 pace. 643. And no, it’s not impossible. You know, there was a team in last place in January that won the cup, the St. Blues in like 2019 or but like this is where you get mad at Pike now. This is insane. You have to go 643 the rest of the way. They’re not going. Of course they are. But like even for this group to go 500 would be like incredibly impressive given the start. Like they are firmly firmly stuck in the bottom five of this league. To me it’s going to take a run to get out of the bottom five in this league. To me that like to me the comparable is not about 96 points. No, it’s about if they just let’s Hey, if they trade Rasmus Anderson, if they trade Nazodre, they’ve played 12 like you say, they got 70 left. They got two in the first 12. How much better does it get? They’ve not played Colorado or like they haven’t played some of the elite teams yet. There will when you are that bad, there will be teams that don’t show up. Yeah, the worst team in the league by miles still has like 25 30 wins. This is not uh like I would think that that’s it is something. Do they get 30 wins? Yeah, 30 wins would put you from now or total like total that means well even total that’s 28 more. That’s seven under 500. That close. So yeah, it’s 14. Yeah, that’s that’s they’re not a historically bad NHL team, but they absolutely are a bottom dweller. Chicago and San Jose, even just look at the schedule now. Like Nashville, that’s close to their skill level at least. Philly, close to their skill level at least. Chicago, Columbus, when you come home, close to their skill level. And I’m not saying they’re going to win them all, but like you go 500, you get an extra bounce or Wolf steals you, you go three and one. Like that’s not crazy for this group. They’ll have stretches where they go seven and five through 12, but there’s going to be a lot of three and nines out of 12. See, we This is where we’re I told you I was looking at the standings and I’m worried about other team scoreboard watching season. Uh yes, I’m worried about other It’s still tight. It’s tight. I think they were going against a good power play unit. Oh, well either way they special teams is not a unmitigated disaster tonight. And there’s been a lot of nights in the first nine games. We said that was the Lombberg line good. Not after the beating they took the other on yesterday. But I I We’re not wrong. It’s harsh but fair. I I hope so. Yeah. If you want an energy line, well, be a good team before you worry about getting energy lines. If you if you have enough goals and you’re winning, it’s like, oh, now now what we could use is to have a little bit of piss and vinegar in our game. I’m dreaming of a time when this team is very good and they’re spending a lot of money on star players because they got so many and it’s like, hey, we can’t afford middle six wingers just hanging out on the fourth line. Let’s take some league minimum bangers and crashers and that can be the identity of the fourth line. Yeah. And I don’t even care about the money. I just I want the coaches to go, our top three are so stacked, we don’t have the ice time. Yeah. to give to other guys that should have we need some we’ll get some guys who can push piles and when we need them we use them and then you flip it over and it feels really unfair to say hey Lombberg you’re costing this team wins sure isn’t if it wasn’t who was the guy in Edmonton wasn’t it Bob Nicholson said boy you know if Toby Reer had a goal it’s like gez poor Tobias Reer taking a stray. It does feel like maybe Lombberg’s taken a bit of some stray bullets here. If it feels that way, it’s not intended that way. It is not a shot at Lombberg or anything he brings because you could put him back on the Florida Panthers and you would instantly be praising him. His game doesn’t change. He goes about it the same way. It’s that the need for this is not and and again, he wins a cup there. He played eight of their probably 20ome playoff games. Don’t care. I’m not shot at lumbar. So when you’re good, he’s a 13th forward that you love having in your lineup, but it’s just you’ve got so many good players above him. You’re going to swap him in when there’s an injury or okay, there’s a tough match up where he could work. This team’s not there. And the other problem that Mumbberg has in this lineup is that they can’t score. Yes, there’s been a short run here where it’s been much better. Way to go. Awesome. But they can’t score. And so to put Lombberg in to bring energy, but you still can’t score. Well, you know that there’s that tilty thing. Look at my camera. I see it. It’s trying to see. He had multiple conversations with George Peros, Department of Player Safety, and you know, rightfully or wrongfully, that has made him a little more cautious about finding out where that edge is because he’s got a play on it. I was cur I’m kind of curious about because I I I did not watch him before he got drafted, but I’m betting he got drafted as much for this guy is a canankerous Yeah. a-hole as it is, oh, he’s a big strong power forward who can score some goals. So, it’s because he found he made trouble.
