LIVE: Postgame vs. Blackhawks | October 30, 2025
You feel me? Hey, hey, hey. Do it. Welcome on the highlight reels. Uh just in terms of the overall team performance, would this rank as the most complete of the year to date? Yeah, I think it was our best uh 60-minute effort. I mean, you know, there’s always things to clean up and uh but there’s a lot to build on. You know, there’s been a lot of talk about our second periods and um you know, I thought we did a better job in that that frame. So, um yeah, it’s a good win and um just have to keep building. How good was that number one line tonight? They just seemed unstoppable. Yeah, they were unreal. I mean, um, obviously three very talented guys that all compliment each other kind of uniquely and really well. And, um, I mean, I actually I saw it this morning. I I saw Sh and Casey and Gabe, they were buzzing in morning skate and kind of just knew that, you know, Casey got that one the other night in overtime and um, goal scorers like that, I feel like they get one and and uh, you can’t stop them. So, um, it’s going to be fun to watch them here going forward. But yeah, they were they were unreal all night and uh they’ve been great for us all year. On the topic of getting one, are you going to be unstoppable now? I hope so, I guess. Um yeah, it’s nice to have one go in. Um get rid of the goose egg and hopefully can can keep adding to the column, I guess. Josh, as someone that’s gone up against Mark Shley in practice for many years, what do you think it’s like defending when it comes to reading whether he’s going to pass or shoot? Yeah, it’s very tough. uh very annoying to play against in practice. Um I think it’s made me uh and all of our players a lot better when you go against him and and KC and Gabe. Um but Sh in particular uh I think he’s world class at protecting the puck. Um you know below the hash marks, let’s say it’s really hard to get it away from him and you know he’s got eyes in the back of his head. So um yeah, it’s super super annoying to be honest. Uh, so thankfully the last couple years we’ve had usually matched up jerseys with that line, so I haven’t had to go against them too much lately, but yeah, it’s fun to watch. What was your view of your goal off the post and off the skate? What could you see from where you were? Honestly, nothing. I just tried to make a good quick shot and um I kind of faded away after I guess like a you know Kobe shot. Um, I didn’t see it. I just heard it and then um, you know, I heard the fans and, you know, went in. So, it was nice to nice to get one there. Thank you. Thanks, Josh. We’ll write it up. been in this space talking about uh you know not trying to press too much and uh just trying to get the goal scoring going. Now all of a sudden it looks like you uh are on a real nice roll and and play with the confidence of a goal scorer. Is that what you’re feeling down on the ice as well before you ask me what I think? Well, I mean, yeah, it’s nice to score obviously. Um it was it was a tough start, but I mean like I said that that day when when you guys asked me, I mean I was getting chances, so it’s tough to to be overcritical when when they’re not going in, but you’re getting the looks. Um, I mean, I got two goals, but I mean it’s I don’t want to get ahead of myself. I we need to keep going and I expect to to keep keep scoring. Obviously, it’s my job. In terms of the importance of that goal, though, after Chicago was able to to get a pretty lucky bounce off the stench and how important was it to end the first period that you you had and then it looked like you carried that on into the middle frame? Yeah, I thought uh thought we played really well in the first and uh yeah, like you say, unlucky bounce. Not much you can do on those type of goals. Uh I thought we played really well in the second as well and you know kind of dominated for most of the third and then kind of had that little spree there. But uh yeah, that was a one of our more complete games of the season. Did you feel as a Lion unstoppable out there tonight? Uh or would that be uh a little over the top? I thought we played really well. I mean uh those two are going to do do what they do. They’re they’re unreal uh to play with and uh that’s what uh is expected of us. We got to keep doing that. Gabe, as Mark Schitz’s linemate, is there a way that you’re able to sense if he’s going to pass or shoot, or do you just always have to be ready? You always got to be ready. Yeah, he’s uh remarkable at watching what uh you know, the other like in two-on-one situations, just reading off of what that defenseman’s doing. So, uh yeah, you always got to be ready. Similarly, on Connor’s backhand goal there, it looks like you’re making yourself an option right to the end on the post there. What was your view of that goal? It was a nasty view, I’ll tell you that. It was pretty cool goal to see from there. Um, yeah, I was just like like you said, you said I was just trying to make a goal if he wanted to throw it back door or maybe hits me and goes in, but he he did a nice play. That was nice. Based on just where you are with your like head height right there, have you ever had a better view of a goal like that? Well, I mean, I told him I did I told him when we were going for the star like I had an unreal view of that cuz it went right back bar and like came out fast. I was like, did that go in? But it was pretty nice. Yeah, it’s a good goal. Aside from the six goal out first, Gabe, uh, and and I know there were those two Chicago goals late in the third, but, uh, how impressed were were you with the overall performance defensively in this game? It certainly from a home ice perspective, the shots on goal allowed were, uh, considerably lower than what you’ve been averaging so far this year. Yeah, like I mentioned, I thought it was our most complete game. Um, thought we did a good job uh through the neutral zone. uh kind of limited their uh their speed and those those young guys, you know, they they can they can really turn and burn when when you have those turnovers. Um yeah, it’s good game. All right. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, you know, Not 60 minutes of perfection, but is that about as close to the 60-minute game you’ve been looking for so far this year? Yeah, that was a real good that was a real good game. I thought there you know there’s little things that happened over the course of a game. I don’t know if there ever is a perfect 60. Uh but that that was one of our best of the year. Um liked a lot of what we did, whether that was our coverage, uh whether that was our breakouts. I thought we were really good on our breakouts. Um you know, they uh they’re quick young team and I thought we did a good job for the most part trying to stay over top of them and slow them down and you know, obviously we capitalized on all our chances. It didn’t look like Chicago had much going. They got a bit of a lift when that puck went off the stans and Carolina was able to put it in. But defensively though, is that uh the kind of hockey that you’re looking for? Yeah, that’s more that’s more of what we need to do. It’s uh you know, you’re going to the zone time happens. Uh you know, there going to be shots from the periphery. There’s going to be you know, situations um where that you know, they’re going to try to attack. I just thought in, excuse me, attack to the inside. But I thought we did a really good job protecting that inside and and that’s when we’re at our best. Uh you know the gutsy ice we don’t give teams much to work with. Scott, uh Gabriel Valardi had a ton of chances early in the season but wasn’t necessarily getting rewarded with the goals. How nice was it to see him get two tonight? Yeah. Yeah, I know he was stressing pretty hard there about getting his first and and ever since actually he has it’s like I mentioned that he looks like he’s skating 10 10 miles per hour faster, but that line was obviously outstanding. Um, you know, he’s uh he’s a goal scorer. He gets he gets the holes, he gets the places, and uh you know, he can make things happen. And those three the chemistry that they have, they all have kind of different things that they bring to the line. And Gabe Gabe knows what his sort of role is. And uh you know, he’s he’s really starting to play it. Is there anything you can tell us about Gustav Nyquist? No, no, we’ll just Yeah, we’ll just tweak something there in the corner and Yeah. So, we’ll we got to look at tomorrow and we’ll find out. That’s it. Easy night. Just can’t let you off that easy, coach. Um, just from that aspect though, Scott, and I don’t know, you always look for different uh game time situations or game type situations in the preeason. So, with what you went through, did that help you get through, you know, having to get go with just 11? Oh, yeah. Just Yeah. Yeah. Trying to manipulate with that because uh you certainly had a lot of practice on that in the preseason with losing guys early in games. Yeah. No, you’re you’re right on about that. And um you know, I think guys get kind of excited about it too cuz they know their ice time is going up. Um but it’s just uh yeah, it’s uh it you don’t want to do that for an extended period of time. um you know, but when it happens in a game, um yeah, the guys uh they all, you know, recognized what uh what a little bit more was needed and kind of tried to roll a lot of different guys through that. Kind of had a mix up on one of our line changes. Um not everybody knew who was going for who, but uh at the end of the day, that’s uh when you have injuries like that. And then we lost Luke uh you know in the second period first stretch some heavy lifting by our D. But I just like the way everybody kind of you know dug in and and did a little bit more. Thank you. Hey, hey, hey. Hey hey
