THE DETROIT RED WINGS ARE #1 IN THE ATLANTIC: ANOTHER DYLAN LARKIN 3-POINT GAME + MO SEIDER BENCHED

[Music] Hi. So, it’s a hella busy day for National Hockey League fans. I am sitting here watching the Vancouver Conucks in the New York Rangers. I was just watching the Toronto Blue Jays. That game still over overlapped with a whole bunch of the other games that I was watching. And of course, we have ourselves this game that we are going to be talking about in this video. Ladies and gentlemen, we haven’t done anything about Detroit on the show today, but what better way to break the ice than to acknowledge the fact that the Detroit Red Wings are right now, at this moment in time, tied for first in the Atlantic Division. This will not last. At least it might not last. I’m not too sure. Right now, the Wings have 14 points in 10 games. They are tied with the Montreal Canadiens who also have 14 points in 10 games. But the Canadians are indeed winning against the Seattle Kraken right now. So, that of course is subject to change, the rankings and the listing of who is number one in the Atlantic. But the Detroit Red Wings are right there after posting up yet another victory over the St. Louis Blues. No dramatic comeback needed this time here, people. No 4 nothing deficit, no 6-4 win. This time it was a reasonable and more stomachable 5-2 win by the Detroit Red Wings over the St. Louis Blues. And the Blues, they ended up getting things going quickly here. They was one- nothing early on. Braden Shen, 47 seconds is all it took to go up one- nothing. But that is all the Red Wings needed to activate this time. Last game it was four goals. The Blues were able to score four and then Todd Mlullen woke the team up with his timeout. This time the Red Wings scored four unanswered after Braden Shen made it one- nothing. Ben Sherro gets his first of the year, assisted by Appleton and Debrink. Alex De Brinket then tips in a power play goal. Finally, when it rains, it pours. De Brinket starting to score goals in bunches. Now, this is what we expected. Then in the second period, Dylan Larkin gets a tip and Elmer Soder Blum also gets his first on the year, too. Not to mention Jordan Cyro in the third, who brings the lead back down from three to two. And then Dylan Larkin gets the empty net. So that is another threepoint night for the Detroit Red Wings captain. What a game. What a performance. And what a confident win by this group. Lucas Raymond also finally getting some assists over there. He got himself his fifth and sixth assist today. De Brinket with a two-point night as well, a goal and an assist. And Larkin with the two goals plus the assist as well. Some of the top dogs in Detroit are not finding ways to slow down and it’s just kind of getting me worried for the rest of the NHL once Patrick Kane comes back. This guy is going to be a huge addition to a team that’s already been quite successful offensively and that has found ways for the top guys on the team to consistently contribute offense, get those numbers up and help out all of us who started them in fantasy hockey, baby. Yeah. Dylan Larkin is now all the way back up there. He is still one of the top point scorers in the National Hockey League this season with now 16 points in 10 games. So, he is tied for first in the league one more time. It’s not updated yet because NHL.com waits for all the games to be over and then switches over to the next day before the numbers are up. But hey, everybody else is right there, too. Actually, I don’t know if he’s tied for second. Uh yeah, know Utah did really well today. There were a bunch of goals scored and Jack Eel I know had a bunch of points. Either way, Dylan Larkin is still one of the top players in the NHL when it comes to points. This game really helped him out with 16 total in 10 games. But I wanted to talk about some of the extra notes about this contest. Just some other things. Not really like okay game breakdown stuff because I’m going to be honest, I didn’t really watch this game too much. I saw the goals, that’s it. But yeah, I was watching the Blue Jays. Sorry. Either way, the Wings being up on top in this way does call for a video commentary, and it does allow us to talk about just how different things are feeling for the Red Wings. This was one of the top comments on the R Detroit Red Wings subreddit, how this team, it feels so different. There is a sort of belief in this team that I don’t know fans were really feeling at any point in the past few years. Yes, it’s true the Red Wings always had kind of quick starts and they were able to get pretty good results early on in seasons, but they always crumbled apart afterwards. That I guess is going to be the biggest test heading into the next little while here for the Detroit Red Wings. But with that still in mind, I feel like this year’s team has so much more to cheer for and be excited for and a lot more consistency to believe in compared to some of those prior years where the team had a hot start and then they just kind of fizzled away. There’s confidence in the personnel. There’s confidence in the coaching staff. The players are giving all of us stuff to feel good and confident about. Yes, Dylan Larkin is on pace for 130 something points. I don’t think anybody fully thinks he’s going to hit that, but as long as he’s able to continuously produce and end off with a hopefully career-high year, I don’t think anybody would complain about that. Like, hey, if Larkin gets 95 points, that’s awesome. It’s not 130, but it’s still very, very good and quite indicative of a positively trending season. You also had yourselves some really interesting game dynamics with what happened in this contest against St. Louis. Moider ended up getting kind of benched towards the end there. And this was talked about by the folks on the RD Detroit Red Wings subreddit. There’s got to be accountability for lazy plays and Mo Cider has and can definitely play better than he did on the last goal against scored by who was it? Jordan Kyu. Yeah, Cider kind of gets totally stripped of the puck there as he lacadasically tries to come back towards it. Pastor easily takes it from him and then sets up Kyrie for the shot and the goal. really interesting to see Todd Mlelen bench Moider because of that. And then you have a whole bunch of other replies saying, “Yeah, like I like it.” It’s a really bad thing when players just kind of take the shift off and they just decide to whack at it. They don’t move their feet. They look a little bit lazy, lacadasical. So holding everybody to a standard does a lot when it comes to building the team culture and the dynamics of what’s expected out of these guys. And yes, of course, the Red Wings were winning by a significant margin in this game. So it’s a lot easier for Todd McCullen to say, “Yeah, Mo, sorry. You’re not playing anymore. What was that?” Like, if it was a tie game, it was game seven of the Stanley Cup finals 22 heading into the final 5 minutes of the third. Yeah, you better bet that Mo Sider is playing every single minute. But in a game like this, you know, they’re up 5-2. It’s like, yeah, or 4-2, excuse me, because no empty net was scored yet. At that point, it’s like, yeah, Mo, what the heck? Come on. Set a better example out there. And Todd Mlullen’s not afraid to take those risks and not afraid to tick some of those players off in that way. So, very good decision, I would say. But now the Detroit Red Wings number one in the Atlantic division. I want you to let me know your thoughts in the comments section. How does this feel after all of these years of doom and gloom? We’ll see what happens with Montreal. They’re up two nothing in the intermission with the Seattle Kraken at the time of recording this audio. So once Montreal gets themselves a point, then they’ll be number one in the Atlantic again. But for now, in this very brief period of time, Detroit is number one. So live it and breathe it while it’s still here. Folks, if you enjoyed this video, feel free to hit the like button. If you didn’t, the dislike button’s down there for you as well. Thoughts in the comment section below about the Detroit Red Wings and what’s going on in Mottown. I hope you enjoyed this video. And bye. [Music] [Music]

  1. Ima wait till at least halfway thru season before I give any crap about standings. I watched the tigers go from 20+ games up to almost losing it. I think I'll wait and see.
