The Chase – BONUS CUT! Trent Cull mic’d up in Utah | Calgary Flames
It was around 3:00 a.m. in Salt Lake City when they arrived here to get ready for this game against the Mammoth. When we get to this puck, know that this team is quick and they’re on you again quickly. So, we’ve got to be really fast to make that next play and we’ve got to play direct. We got to play behind them. We got to stay away from this area right here. But this is the look that they’re looking for all the time. They want bumper. They want bumper. Okay, from last game. Nacho. Oh, love it. And from the archives. You can always bring this to kangaroo court if I miss something. I know I’m not perfect. Sometimes I am, but anyways. But look from the cheap seats. That’s another block by Nacho, which I forgot about. He goes from out left field to second place. Nacho is in chasing down coals. Let’s have a nice one. When you look at the four game sample size, we’re two and generating high danger chances four, but we’re near the bottom of giving up high danger chances. So that doesn’t win. So when we say low event hockey, that doesn’t mean you sit back and just wait for teams to come at you. No, you’re aggressive and your mentality is the right way where it’s theirs, nobody’s or ours. But low event hockey means we’re not beating ourselves ever. Okay? Okay? And that takes commitment. So you don’t have to make something out of nothing all the time. That’s not the way it is. You stay with your game. And if it takes 29 minutes, if it takes 49 minutes, if it takes 61 minutes to win the game, you stay with it. So at the end of the night, they shouldn’t get anything against us for free. If they earn something and they do something extraordinary, tip your hat to them, but they get nothing for free. And you stay with what you do and you generate your opportunities from there. We good? Let’s go. [Applause] at 1 and3 and four games into the season, a week into their season right now. Feels like there’s a whole lot more questions than there are answers surrounding this group right now. [Music] I ain’t playing no more. Wow, you look good today. Am I hunting out there? Need it here. White. Yeah. Put our heads down. We work. It’s all going to come out. It’s going to be a lot better after George W. Yeah. You check with your feet moving. You make plays with your feet moving. And make sure we’re all committed to winning races to get into the battle and then winning the battle. Okay. We go work to grind to put our heads down. Simple. Simple. out and that moving the puck quick. Moving it quick. Puck has been dropped and we are underway with the first period of play here at Delta Center. Be physical on these little skilled forwards. Be physical, men. Heavy heavy back hits. Holy. That’s brutal. Hammer from behind. Way you go. Lots of work going back for those pucks. Knowing what our options are, boys. That’s a good job there by Nacho. Hammer it. Hammer it. One guy is going to go behind you all the time to the neutral. So you guys talk and start. Lands in the lap of Anderson. Moves it to Weaguer. Cad gets it into the slot. Nice play. Back door. Back door Anderson. They score. Yeah. Christmas Anderson. Power play goal. Flames lead at one- nothing. Cuz it’s tough for you. I know sometimes the righty going wheel in the net. I was just I wasn’t sure if he wanted that pop or wanted me to go. Gotcha. Correct. Z go. Z’s got one. Paxes will have two. Quick, quick, quick. Good. Whoa. Whoa. Keep it on the wall. Hey, hey, one behind. Push him. Bust through. Cool. Shoots and Tuli makes the save. Deon stopping Logan on a short break. I think I just got to eat that in the corner. No bowler. I saw you didn’t understand. That’s it. Back to work. My first thought was like, “Oh, no. What a save you made.” Hit that D, man. Thank you. Love it. Keep going. Yeah, big part of what we have to do, guys, when we’re playing fast and every time we got it in behind their back end, like we’ve talked about, good things happen below the goal line. We had some great shifts in that zone, but we got to make sure in these situations, this is right. Either you can get off the wall and drive through or you keep pushing through. We don’t slow them down. Do it again. Stay committed to the hard, boys. Let’s have a period. Hey, boys. First option hockey playing smart. Let’s go here. And good changes here, huh? Get to the middle. Inside the dots. Everything inside the dots. Remember you guys. Here’s Schmaltz into the middle. Hayden scores. [Music] A breakaway for Turkish. Scores. Keep our gap. Keep our gap. Keep our gap, man. The is that killer momentum, eh? Yep. Yep. That’s you, Andy. That’s you. That’s you. That’s your lane. Yep. Yep. Yep. Good job. Good job. F1, you’re going to have to help with that. E, lower, lower backs. Good job. Let’s go. You two, do a job. Good job. Arrive on time. Arrive on time. Kwings. Now, good job by Andy. You see that? They’re trying to go back door because they’re they’re bringing the bumper higher out. And then we’re going to have you release off that bumper a little bit and help out the guy at that front. Got it. We’re in control. We’re in control. Smart here now. Come on, kid. Hit him with a jab. Hit him with a jab. Big rig. [Music] off. Shoot some pucks. Get around it. Re careful. N one shot and we’reing rolling, boys. Right. Keep going here. Wigs. Oh, two drop. Yeah. Yeah. All over that. Hot him. Hot him. Z patches. Walk to the middle. Walk to the middle, baby. Right back. Here we go. Stick. Stick. Stick. Good stick. Good stick. Hey, good job. You move it and then all a sudden your joint. That’s a good look. Heads. That’s a big right. Nice. Wait. Wait. Here. See? Wait. Both. Go. [Applause] [Applause] Definitely not good enough. And uh we just got to just got to take a breath. Uh you know, it’s been five games only. And uh you know five on five we’re a good team. We’ve been a really good team for a long time and uh just the penalties killed us and uh but let’s just you know almost just pause and take a breath and and then uh then just get ready for Saturday. You need to find your game in a hurry because can’t make the playoffs first month of the year, but you surely can miss them. [Music]
The Flames opened the season with a ‘meat grinder’ of a schedule that included two sets of back-to-backs in less than a week, with travel in between. In this bonus cut of The Chase, we take a look at the team’s one-off trip to Utah, arriving in the wee hours of the morning before taking on the Mammoth in a spirited affair.
With Devin Cooley making his Flames debut and the club looking to pick up a much-needed win, we mic’d up Assistant Coach Trent Cull to look at his responsibilities as the team’s defence and penalty-killing specialist.

Gawd. How can you play with a coach barking all the time. Give it a rest. It is mentally draining. Maybe it's the reason Calgary is not doing well this season.
Let's go Calgary. Let's get this win today. Good luck boys. Fingers crossed. π₯π₯πππ₯π₯πππ₯π₯π₯πππ₯π₯πππ₯π₯
