TJ Hockenson Trade Rumors?

[Music] What’s going on, Jeromes? So, unfortunately, the Minnesota Fighting Vikings are allegedly three and four, and they’re they’re off this week. Well, they’re off Thursday night, too. Uh, but the Vikings next Sunday go on the road against Detroit, and then the NFL trade deadline is next Tuesday. So, in the very unlikely event that the Vikings do not win next Sunday, could the Vikings be sellers at the NFL trade deadline? Now, I firmly believe that JJ McCarthy is going to go up to Detroit and beat the living piss out of some low energy Detroit Lions because uh number nine has never lost a game in the great state of Michigan. No, no big deal. But could a player such as TJ Hawinson be considered as a piece to be moved at the Apple Trade line if it comes down to it? So Hawinson uh is 28 years young and this year I I know the the production hasn’t been there but aha mainly it’s because Hawinson has been asked to stay in and chip quite a bit now I know people look up the stats well he only has so many pure plus blocking reps well that doesn’t take into account a chip that turns into a route right just doesn’t right uh so with Hawinson 27 catches 222 yards receiving a touchdown on 36 targets that’s basically what Tyler Waring gets in a game Yeah. Uh but overall, he had one touchdown against the Eagles that should have been rightfully a score, but sort of is what it is. And you could say that has he been living up to his contract this season? I don’t know. Uh but of course, uh rumors and speculation season as the NFL day trade deadline approaches. Zack Kelberman, who’s a beat writer for the Broncos, rumor the Broncos have interest tra in trading for Vikings tight end TJ Hackinson. Now, Hawinson has also been tied to the Rams even though they have Tyler Higgby who’s also a victim of Dere Joseph and with Hawinson like last year was sort of a wash return mid-season uh come back from the torn ACL MCL all the all the LCL’s right and you know this year you’re hoping that he could regain 2023 form when he was on pace for a 100 100 catchous thousand yard season and I I feel like he will be an asset for JJ McCarthy once he gets here but also I feel like he could have some trade value, right? And it’s fitting that he’s not playing on national tight end day because he didn’t play last Thursday either. I Yeah. And Hawinson’s contract, Hans’s contract actually gets very edible uh for the Vikings. He’s got $10.9 million base this year. Uh he’s got a $21.35 million cap in 26 and a $15.4 million base, none of which is guaranteed until the third day of the new league year. I think it guarantees a couple million. So, the Vikings uh if they trade his contract full freight would be able to save around 5 million in cap space if they trade him at the deadline this year. Uh and of course getting out from under it in subsequent seasons. You the only dead cap would be his pro-rated uh signing bonus. Uh but what could complicate things is jumping Josh Oliver, the tight end who they extended this off season. He’s dinged up with an ankle injury. You know, sort of a bad looking one last Thursday. No updates there. Uh and Ben UR’s been dealing with injuries. You have Nesbbit on the practice squad, the pride of UNCC. Uh, North Carolina’s really gone to pot since Nesbbit left. Yeah. Then you have Unknown and Gavin Bartholomew who’s been on season ending IR. So, do you believe that that Oliver could be a replacement tight end one? He did fine last year in in replacement of TJ Hawinson, but you know how good Hawinson can be when he’s at his best, right? So, definitely factor that in. Also, he’s still 28. He’s still in his prime. Now, if you got blown away with an offer, consider it, right? Uh looking at the the value of at least a second round pick. So, a second round pick or a third and a fourth or something equivalent uh to that draft capital, which quil will screw up anyway. Ah. Uh but right now, I I’m in the mood for giving JJ McCarthy all all of his possible weapons. like he hasn’t played a game with Darasaw, hasn’t played a game with Addison, and he clearly had some chemistry going with TJ Hawinson uh during the offseason work training camp, you know, they went down Nashville together, made some great country music. Listen to me, girl. Yeah. So, right now, like e even if the Vikings do not win next Sunday, the Vikings can still strap it on, put put a run together, and by giving JJ McCarthy his full compleiment of weapons, I think that’s the best way to do it. And I feel like Hawinson will rebound. I feel like with improved quarterback play, improved offensive line play, like everything’s going to go up and up and up, right? So, as of right now, I say no on Hawinson, depending on what happens next Sunday. Um, but the Vikings also have to decide, is he going to be a major part of the future? Because if he is, it’s probably going to have to redo that contract, give him an extension, lower his cap number for 2026. So, I guess we’ll see. Anyways, your thoughts are thoughts. Hawinson trade deadline. Let us know comment section. You guys are the best. You know what to do. Skull production value.

Could the Minnesota Vikings potentially deal tight end TJ Hockenson at the NFL trade deadline?

  1. This is an interesting one. You have always seemed pretty in favor of TJ and while I don't think he is bad, I never believed he was the top 5 money guy in the position they paid him to be. I do think next week is an inflection point for them. Yes, 3-4 is not "that" bad. But if they lose they go 3+ games back of two teams in a tough division and have to consider that other than possibly Cleveland they have not won a single meaningful game including getting dominated by the Falcons and Chargers. I feel like at that point they are "sellers" and have to look at everything they can do to build a solid team for next season, because in (or after) next season it will be contracts for Addison, JJ will be eligible, Jefferson will be looking for something, and a bunch of defensive players. Let's hope for next week.

  2. Who cares if they trade Hock. The way Kwesi drafts that pick will goto shit . This team has taken 3 steps back wouldn't b surprised if JJ asked for a trade nxt yr

  3. Unfortunately, Vikes will get clobbered by Lions next week. With that crappy O line Hutchinson and boys are going to feast on our QB. I hope JJ won't get hurt again cause he'll be running for his life.

  4. Hey we paid top dollar for that line. Concussions, knees, ankles, old etc… they need a good line coach. And an offensive coordinator coordinator coordinator

  5. We should not trade away any weapons while JJ is at the helm. Give him all options and chances to build confidence and don’t trade anyone he has some chemistry with

  6. Why are you always talking about trading someone? Why not talk about sitting our head coach down and finding out what the heck is going on with the unpreparedness of the QB situation and the terrible OL?

  7. I'm in favor of trading him and getting what you can in return. He's not physical in the run game nor is he a big threat down the field. I've never seen a 250lb player get tackled so easily by CBs. He's the size of Derrick Henry but can't seem to break any tackles.

  8. Hockenson hasn't been the same player since Dirty Kirby Joseph wrecked his knee, but if he's traded, who will replace him in the lineup? Thanks to years of horrendous drafting, the cupboard at TE is basically bare.

  9. At this rate he is getting cut next year anyways. If we need a TE to chip, we can acquire one for much less than the 20+ mil he would get each of the next 2 years.

Loved him when we traded for him. Ever since his injury he has never been the same. Drops too many passes too.

If we lose next week, even if all we get is a 5th, we should consider it.

  10. It’s like having Deja Vu but I don’t think we should trade him simply for giving JJM the weapons to use through the rest of the season. I want to win but I don’t care if we only win 3 more games the rest of the season I just want to see if JJM has potential or not and if he truly is injury prone then see what Bro Show can do.

  11. Since choices will need to be made, and contracts have to go, better to keep Addison. If that means Hockenson has to go…so be it. Oliver is solid; the draft is coming. The biggest issues for this squad are 1) O-Line healthy so the running game can be established, 2) Reps for JJ McC. Let's just get a game under our belts where a third of the team isn't carted off or in the tent! Next, try to fix what is wrong with the D, 'cos there's a lot – can't stop the run, nor the pass right now. Re-evaluate and the best players on the field, no matter who they are or what they're getting paid…

  12. trade him!!!!! Vikings went from 14-3 to missing the playoffs. Wow what a massive turn around because you trusted an unproven rookie with the keys to the kingdom and he is failing massively. What a huge mistake from Kwesi. You had somebody balling the f out in Darnold and let him walk for nothing. I hope the Seahawks win the SB this year behind Americas qb and watch how stupid the vikings look. They deserve every bit of criticism they are getting because the earned it all by tearing apart a SB winning team. I can tell you right now there is no way in hell the hawks would trade Darnold for JJ. They would laugh you right right off the phone.

  13. I love hock. I think the best is yet to come. If nothing shows the rest of the year I can see the trade making some sense. But with all the injuries at TE it doesnt make sense rn just to save 5m
