San Jose Sharks CHASE Third Straight Victory Against Red Wings | Can MOMENTUM Continue Tonight?
The San Jose Sharks look for their third straight win as the Red Wings come to town. Can they keep it going? You’re Locked on Sharks, your daily podcast on the San Jose Sharks, part of the Locked On Network, your team every day. Hello, welcome to Locked On Sharks, the premier hockey podcast covering your favorite team in the Bay Area. My name is JD Young, caretaker at the Reef, also the co-host of Locked on NHL. I want to thank you for making Locked on Sharks your first listen, proudly part of the Lockdown Network. We cover your team every day. Uh, and we got to spend 10 minutes here previewing the Sharks Red Wings game as San Jose looks for their third straight win in four out of five. where does this team uh come from? Uh so we’ll look at kind of get to know how these two teams match up. Look at the Red Wings and what’s made them successful so far this season and what to watch for in this game. So uh let’s get started by looking at how these two teams match up. The Red Wings are 84 and0. Your San Jose Sharks are 46 and2. Uh offensively, the Red Wings are 14th in the NHL at 3.33 goals for per game. Your San Jose Sharks 15th at 3.33 goals four per game. Uh goals allowed Red Wings are 3.25 22nd. The Sharks 4.17 32nd power play for the Red Wings is at 25% good for 10th. The power play for the Sharks 21.4 good for 14th. The PK 86.1% good for eighth for the Red Wings. And then 65.8% uh 30th for your San Jose Sharks. Larkin leads the Red Wings in goals to bring out an in assist with 10 and the Larkin has 17 points. Celbrini of course leads in all categories. Seven goals, 11 assists, 18 total points. Um the Red Wings are a little confusing because um on paper they they they’re not like dominating. You know, the Power Play and the PK are both solid. You know, top 10 units there, but this is a team that is ninth in the the NHL when it comes to point percentage is second in their division as I’m recording this right now. But they’re the offense, you know, especially at five on five hasn’t really been there and the defense has been solid. The goalending has not been, you know, like uh anything crazy. And so you wonder, is this a little bit of a paper tiger with the Red Wings or are they still getting wins and maybe they’re still like the the numbers will eventually kind of uh you know come up to to where they are as a team. So um this this is going to be a very interesting test I think for both teams here between the Red Wings and the Sharks. Um for the Red Wings, Vinnie, who’s a uh a rookie who’s been absolutely he’s been off to a great start with with them. Uh Larkin and Raymond up top. Dinkrinket, Casper, and Appleton on the second. Uh Cop, Copper, and Burgrin. Um on the third line, and Solder Bloom, Rasmmanson, and Van Redy, I can’t believe Van Rey is still playing. Um on the fourth line uh Evansson Cider uh Cherat Sandine Plecha uh Johansson and Hamnik for your defensive pairs and then Talbot is getting the start for the Red Wings. Uh for the Sharks we don’t know there was no morning skate all we know is Dendulkovich is most likely starting uh as started yesterday. Um, so this is how they lined up yesterday with Tofo, Celebrini, Smith, Equin Wberg, Kuresev, Graph, Misa, Skinner, Goodro, Giles, Dandria. Um, and then we have Orlav, Dehares, Ferraro, Clingberg. Um, and then Dickinson, Muk, Madulan potentially par like we we really don’t know what the Sharks are going to be lining up with and we probably won’t know until closer to puck drop. So, um, before we kind of get to what to watch for, couple news items. Uh, we Sam Dickson still in San Jose. Of course, we we don’t know. He needs to play the one more game right until for his entry level contract to kick in and most likely signifying that he’s going to spend the rest of the season up with the San Jose Sharks. Um, so we’re still waiting on on that news. Um, but, uh, roster kind of tinkering. Ryan Reeves put on IR. He was in a walking boot as of I think was what is it? Friday. Um seen Friday wearing a walking boot. So he’s on IR. Ethan Cardwell called up as a replacement. Love the Cardwell call up. I think Cardwell is a perfect bottom six guy who you can play in a lot of different situations. Um and I would expect Cardwell to also get some PK time as well uh against this Red Wings uh power play that’s been off to a solid start. So, for this game, uh, what to watch for, right? Sharks second night of a backto-back. Uh, luckily no travel, right? And a little bit extra time as the Sharks played on a, uh, you know, on Saturday afternoon and now they’re playing Sunday evening. Um, so expect the Sharks to get off to a little bit of a better start, especially compared to what we saw versus Colorado. Um, and I I do and we’ve seen the Sharks typically start games pretty well. So, I do expect him I do expect them to get off to a a solid start here and against a team that I do think there’s there’s just questions on how sustainable their winning is and you can ask the very same questions for the San Jose Sharks, right? Because I mean you you the comparisons between the numbers other than the goals allowed per game are are very comparable, right? The offenses are about the same. Again, the defense is uh you know, the Sharks have definitely given up way more goals, but like the power plays are are pretty close. The the Red Wings PK is much better than the Sharks uh PK. But like I think this is on paper two kind of evenly matched teams. And if the Sharks can kind of get out to a good start, I think it’s going to lead to their success. So, um for San Jose, get starting the game on time. number one, like you have to do that. And then the special teams don’t get in PK uh into penalty trouble, right? Uh this is a a a really good, you know, top 10 uh unit when it comes to the power play and we know the Sharks PK struggled. I know they they looked better yesterday against the Avalanche, but uh just do like you cannot have a parade of penalties to the box if you’re the San Jose Sharks and expect to win this game. Um, so I think that is a big key is is try to keep this at five on five for as much as as long as possible because I think that’s going to be the um, you know, kind of the path to success for the San Jose Sharks is playing this at five on five where I think it’s two teams that are much more evenly matched and I think the Red Wings and their fans would probably want to admit at least early in the season here. So, um, and then if Alexander Nadulkovich does play the revenge factor, uh, does Nadulkovic, yes, I know it was a couple seasons ago that he played for the Red Wings, but this make it a little bit extra special. We saw Nadulkovich played really well against the Penguins earlier this year. Uh, I think that especially after Ascrooft’s performance, Nadulkovich played well. I think the Sharks goend is starting to kind of round into form here. And I think Dulkovich has been playing really solid as of late. Uh, and I think he’s going to continue to play pretty solid as well. Um, so I think he’s going to have a big game. I think the Sharks are are coming on here. And if you can knock off the Devils, Avalanche, and then the Red Wings, who are second uh in their division right now and among the league leaders in points for the NHL, uh I think this would be a really nice statement for your San Jose Sharks. And actually, I think they keep it going. I think they’re playing really well right now. I think the top two lines, uh we’ve seen Celabbrini can just be an absolute monster. I think the Wenberg line has been doing well as as well. And I mean that they’re big reason why the Sharks have been winning games here. So, um, and I think we get some offense from the blue line. If Dickinson plays, I think Dickinson gets his first point. If not, I think Muka Madullan put me down for a multi-point Muk Madullan game, which I think is a a wild swing on my part, but I’m just feeling it today because I feel like I’ve gotten a lot of my uh predictions right recently. So, uh put me down for big Mukumad game. I think the Sharks win this game. I think there’s a uh I think there’s a fair amount of offense in this game because I the defense on both these teams are either young or like in the the Red Wings case, there’s a lot of young pieces. Uh, in the Sharks case, it’s just the Sharks defense, but I do think there’s a lot of offense in this game. Uh, give me a five to four Sharks win. I’m definitely taking the over in this game. Uh, I think FanDuel’s got the over like six and a half or seven. Uh, I’m definitely taking the the over in this game because I think the Sharks are I think both teams can put up points on the other team. Uh, and yes, I think uh this is a a one of those games where I think there’s a fair amount of goals. So, uh, the over under six and a half. I I like the over on that in this game. So, um, we’ll be back for a breakdown of this game, uh, tonight. So, make sure you guys are following along wherever you get podcast. And of course, you can watch on YouTube as well. The San Jose Sharks face a crucial test against the Detroit Red Wings as they chase their third consecutive victory. Can the Sharks’ surging offense, led by Macklin Celebrini’s 18 points, overcome Detroit’s top-10 special teams units and questionable sustainability?
This preview breaks down the statistical matchup between two evenly matched teams. The analysis examines whether Detroit’s 8-4-0 record is sustainable despite underwhelming underlying numbers, or if they’re a paper tiger waiting to be exposed. Lineup configurations get detailed attention, including the impact of Ethan Cardwell’s call-up to replace injured Ryan Reaves and the ongoing Sam Dickinson contract situation.
The episode identifies three critical factors for a Sharks victory: starting on time in the second game of a back-to-back, staying out of the penalty box against Detroit’s dangerous power play, and keeping the game at 5-on-5 where San Jose matches up better. Alexander Nedeljkovich’s revenge game against his former team adds intrigue to the goaltending matchup.
Bold predictions include a high-scoring 5-4 Sharks win with offensive contributions from the blue line, potentially Sam Dickinson’s first NHL point or a multi-point performance from Shakir Mukhamadullin. The analysis explains why both teams’ defensive vulnerabilities and offensive firepower make the over on 6.5 goals an attractive bet.
Tune in for comprehensive statistical breakdowns, lineup insights, and confident predictions on whether the Sharks can make a statement by defeating three quality opponents in succession.
