[MLB.com] Why the 2025 World Series might have been the best ever (*Nice try, 1991 was better*)
November 3, 2025
Mike Lupica said he was at Game 7 of the ’91 World Series… so ’nuff said, it’s an open-and-shut case — 1991 is still the best.

Some Twins fan in the game thread said it was probably the best. The AUDACITY!
As a reminder: The ’91 Series had five of its games decided by a single run, four decided in the final at-bat, and three going into extra innings. And Game 7 was tied 0-0 after 9 innings. Two teams went worst to first, Jack Morris pitches a 10-inning complete game shutout, Kirby Puckett’s heroics in Game 6 can’t be ignored. Sorry Mike, it will forever be the best series.
Probably just best to appreciate this one for how great it was instead of playing the comparison game.
I’ve been disinterested in the World Series for decades at this point and I watched every game in this series. Both were epic, all-timers.
I love compelling baseball and this year’s series was great. But cmon now.
Games 3, 4, 6, and 7 were walk-offs in 1991 (game 2’s go-ahead/winning run was in the bottom of the 8th, as well).
That alone makes it better than almost every World Series, not even counting all of the other theatrics and heroics of the series.
This year’s World Series was excellent, but 1991 isn’t gonna be topped.
