Islanders’ Matthew Schaefer And Simon Holmstrom Score Twice In 29 Seconds To Win Vs. Blue Jackets

Six on five. Islanders get it in the offensive zone. Matt Barzel lost the puck. Cylinger the backhand glove down by Schaer to the net for Lee. He scores. Schaer put it there. Lee tips it far down. It’s tied. [Music] Kept it in. There’s wobbling pucks that come around back to the blue line. It can be tricky. It can be scary. Nerves of steel. You hang in there. That deflected early up top. Brian Pullock with 45 to go. Matthew Schaefer. Here’s Lee. His shot off the post is behind him. They score. It’s Simon Holmstrom. And the Islanders turn it around late with two goals in 29 seconds. The long reach. He finds this one a fade away from Lee Cali. You can probably see that thing just sitting there. [Music]

Watch as New York Islanders’ Matthew Schaefer and Simon Holmstrom strike twice in 29 seconds with less than a minute left in the third period to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets.

  1. You have a one-goal lead with just over a minute left in regulation, and you lose…in regulation. That's a kick to the gut.

To think there was doubt whether Schaefer would even be on the Isles' roster to begin the season. Good as he's been, his numbers could go off the charts if he's surrounded by a better supporting cast going forward.
