Aaron Glenn Press Conference (10/27) | New York Jets

We all good? Yeah. All right. Good morning. Um, injury-wise, nothing changed from from yesterday. Uh, Kiko is in concussion protocol and uh Cisco has a show that we’re still evaluating. So, I know more about that um sometime this uh this this afternoon. So, um, I’ll be able to give you guys that information, uh, once I get it. Uh, when it comes to the game of yesterday, um, very exciting. Um, great plane ride home. Uh, was good to see the guys excited and happy, um, to get their first win, uh, with the new regime. And there was a number of things as you watch the tape that really stood out to me. And I’ll just go a start the defense first. I thought Wils did an outstanding job of understanding strategically what we were trying to do. And after the first touchdown that was given to to Higgins, man, we kind of got right back into what we were trying to do of making sure we take those two guys out. So after that first touchdown that Higgins got, he didn’t catch another pass after that, which was good by our secondary guys. And also after the half, um I think Chase only had like 30 yards receiving. And listen, I understand exactly what the runners did. They made some plays and I would say that we have to continue to improve on our tackling because that had a lot to do with the uh the runs that they scored on and some of the plays those other guys did. But at the end of the day, our focus was make sure the the two receivers aren’t the ones that beat us like what happened in the Pittsburgh game. So, I thought that was really good by by Wils making sure our guys understood that. uh going with our offense. I thought Tanner did a really good job of really managing the game and putting our guys in positions to be successful. Um man, we were very aggressive when it cames to running the ball and just showing our brand of football when it comes to running the ball and being physical, then also being aggressive of pushing the ball down the field with Justin uh so he can go out and make the plays he need to make. And I thought Justin did a hell of a job of managing the game. Um again, no turnovers. We had a limited amount of penalties and that’s on the offense and defensive side and that’s been three games in a row for the most part. I think we only had 11 penalties in the last three games which averages out about 3.6 uh penalties a game. So that’s something that we’ve been working on uh for quite a bit. So I thought that was outstanding. Uh when it comes to special teams, man, Isaiah did a hell of a job of returning the ball. Um obviously he’s um it’s a pretty good redemption story of of what happened with him fumbling the ball and him making that the 10 yard rule that we have. And now, man, he’s really in the groove of understanding exactly what we want when it comes to a returner. And this just in general, I mean, our special teams have been a um has been a high mark for this team uh throughout this season. I thought those I think those guys continue to do that. So, um again, happy for the win. Um we understand still where we’re at. We’re one and seven. We’re not happy about that, but it is what it is. and we get another uh chance, not this week because of Dubai, but the next week to get a chance to to play Cleveland to continue um improving on the things that we’re trying to improve on as a team. So, um any questions? I know you uh talked about yesterday that Justin is is uh primed to be uh you know, for this situation. Yeah. Going back and looking at how he performed yet, were you impressed at all? Because a lot of guys may not have responded with the poise and the composure that he did this week. Yeah. And and just like I said yesterday, um his personality, his faith, um his family, man, they do a really good job of of of keeping him grounded and keeping him steady. And man, there are so many levels to um to things that that that he goes through uh as a person and as a player that um I think sometimes we look at athletes or at this magnitude of they’re not humans, they’re robots and there’s so many things that that’s that’s attacked at so many different levels on these guys that man they’re humans and they have feelings, they go through things. Um, but man, we create these storms for these players, these coaches also that some people have no idea of what they go through, but they’re just like me. They’re just like you. They’re just like anybody else. They have feelings. They go through things. It just so happened he’s such a strong willed person. Um, that he’s built to handle things like that. So, yes, I’m I’m proud of him. Um, I’m not shocked. Um, and I expect for him to continue living his life like that. Hey G, did you did you see his comments after the game yesterday? He was he said, you know, I’m going to get vulnerable for a minute here and um and he really shared some things that were pretty emotional and how he went through it and I’m sure like you’ve been saying it’s not a surprise to you like how he’s handled things, but did you happen to see those comments from him yesterday and what did you think? Well, yeah, I I I I did. Um here’s the point that I think everybody’s missing. He was being vulnerable, but he’s also teaching. He was teaching everybody out there that listen, like we’re humans and things happen in our lives. And again, I would say this, you know, there’s there’s so much that come at these players that people don’t understand. They shoot arrows at all these players. Um, and they don’t realize these players are, you know, they have feelings. So, um, and I think that was huge, not only for himself, but for the other athletes out there that’s listening to what he’s saying that, man, just it’s it’s it’s bigger than football a lot of times. And being able to handle yourself in a way of um, personality, faith, family, all those things um, has helped him be the be the player and the person that he is right now. Is there a sense that the by-week comes at a good time or would you prefer, you know, to kind of try to deal with the momentum after a win? You know, I’ll be honest and I say, man, I wish we were playing next week. Um, but I I I do feel like this is a this is a good time for us. Um, cuz now, man, our focus again, as it’s always been, has been on us. and man, some of the things that we just need to clean up. We we’re going to go back and we’re going to self scout as far as coaches and we’re going to talk to the players about things about the good, bad, the ugly and the solutions also for us moving forward. So, um there’s a good and a bad to it. Man, obviously after you get a win, you want to continue going, but I also know that, man, there’s some things that we have to reflect on and and try to continue to fix. And understand, man, there’s a foundation that we’re trying to create and that is an ongoing process. And um and we feel good about that. Listen, even though the record’s not where it wants to be and we feel good about the foundation that we’re trying to set so we can um we can be a team that’s going to win continuously. See, we’re evaluating the quarterback position last week. Y with the way with the way Justin played yesterday, the natural question is does he get the start against Cleveland or is that something you’re going to have to weigh over the next uh two weeks? Well, K, I think, you know, my answer’s going to be on that. You know, this is a by week and we’re going to focus on us and um listen, I have time to make that decision. So, um again, and that’s one of the good things of the by-week. Um but seriously, seriously, man, this gives us a chance to really just hone in on the good, bad, and ugly and um and try to get those things worked out because we know we have a ways to go. Aaron, do you think that maybe Justin cleared somewhat of a hurdle because obviously we know for a couple games he wasn’t playing well, but he was getting the ball out quicker yesterday. I mean, do you think he made the step that you were hoping he would? Well, I I would say this. I think he um he played the game exactly like we um we see him playing for us to to win the game. you know, I I I would say that um there are still some things within that game that that he know he has to improve on, and that’s going to be every game. We’re gonna always be critical of ourselves. Um I’m always be critical offense, defense, and special teams. Some things that I think that we can get better at. Um but yeah, he um mean he did a really good job for us yesterday. I thought he managed that game um really well. I think he really he did it really well. So, um, again, we’re going to take this week to really see like how do how do we improve in some of these things that we didn’t do well in at the quarterback position, at the running back position, Dline, lineback, all those positions, man, and try to and try to improve on this week. Ag, how important was that game for the offense? Obviously, you guys wanted to win in the worst way, no matter how you could get it, but coming off a couple games where you did not get in that zone, you’re down 15 points there in the fourth quarter at 3116 and they just kept on coming as far as just a complete effort across the board. You know what? I’m glad you uh you brought that up because that it speaks volumes of um of what we talked about going into halftime of uh I don’t want to say I challenge the team because we already talked about that before. um that we’re about to see exactly how mentally and physically tough we are to be able to uh be a resilient team. Things that we’ve talked about since OTAAS um that the game is never over and we can always win the game and our guys came out and proved that and it wasn’t just the offense coming out having explosion like they did, man. The defense made plays in critical times that we need too. The same as the special teams. So, um but I am happy, man. seem like we’re we’re in this this um this valley and then we have these peaks when it comes to offense and defense. Man, I just look forward to the time we could all put it together and play true complimentary football and um and go out and and and win games that we want to win. But I will say this, we are playing supportive football to where um when the offense is not clicking, man, the defense has picked them up. You know, when the defense is not clicking, the offense has picked it up and the special team has just been um been really good throughout the season. So, um, again, complimenting the football is something that we strive to be, uh, strive to do as we go out this season. What do you make of Brownley’s contributions? He keeps on showing up. One for Brian and one made a couple of those big plays down the stretch. Yeah, that’s um that’s the reason why he’s here. And again, I give a lot of credit to our per to in the in our personnel department of seeking out the guys that really fit um who we are and what we’re trying to to do um as a team and that really has the traits that we’re looking for when it comes to players. So um I don’t want to say I’m surprised uh but I am happy that the things that we thought that he can do, he’s out there doing for us to help us win games. Hey G, the um the trading deadline’s a week from tomorrow. Not sure when we’re going to talk to you again. Obviously with your record being one and seven, you’re going to get calls from a lot of teams, I’m sure, looking looking at your players. What will the organizational approach be to the trading deadline? Um I would say this, no I can’t say that because that’s what Paros told me. But um listen, everybody listens. That doesn’t mean that you act on anything, you know. When someone calls you, you listen. But action speaks louder than words, you know. So I would just put it like that cuz if someone wants to trade for you, you know, I’m trading you. Trust me. No, I got to keep you around. I I got to keep you around, too, man. Thanks. Thank you everyone. All righty. Appreciate you guys.

  1. The Jets win enough to miss getting the top pick.
To A.G. as Bear Bryant said to a player carrying on in the end zone "Try to act like you've been there before"

  2. So funny how many of you completely flipped on this refime after 1 win. Building a sustainable winner takes time and consistency and they seem like they’ve been getting better every week

  3. Justin Fields is FRANCHISE and has ALWAYS BEEN FRANCHISE. HATERS of JUSTIN FIELDS, TROLLING HATE is WHAT YOU DO. Justin Fields does things POSITIVE that only a FEW QUARTBACKS can DO. STATE FACTS ALL FACTS,just not things that SUPPORT your HATE. FACT – Brought the JETS from a 15 POINT DEFICIT in the FOURTH QUARTER and the Jets WON. 2cnd time in 24 YEARS since 2021. 500 +;yards of OFFENSE. 8 touchdowns, ZERO INTERCEPTIONS in 8 games The BEST in the NFL.Multiple 100+ passer RATINGS this year. HATERS OPINIONS, ZERO. BYE-BYE.

  4. Honestly Feilds has a great arm when he lets it rip he has insane accuracy too when he just throws and stops over thinking, idk what makes young QBs second guess themselves so much when it comes to just letting it fly

  5. the last three games those penalties got shut tf down. and our special teams and kick returns have been absolutely clutch.

I also really liked how after the game in the presser, AG wasn't gloating and putting the other team down or barking at the media, he was class and mature about it. I hope this sparks something the way that one win did in Detroit.

  6. I think the QB question has been answered, and it's protection. The pressure wasn't as aggressive due to injuries, so moving forward Jets need to focus on how to stop or slow the rush. Can we do everything from a 12 personnel set?

  7. JETS HAVE TO RUN A 3-4 DEFENSE REALLY STRONG WITH THE LINEMEN AND A COVER 2 AND A COVER 3 I'VE BEEN STUDYING CLEAVLAND BROWNS OFFENSE TRUST ME AND WATCH THE BROWNS OFFENSE THEY ARE TRYING TO RUN UP THE B GAPS ON RUNNING PLAYS. JETS HAVE TO DISABLE BRANDON AND MARSHALL. JETS NEED WEIGHTLIFTING AND ENERGY FOR THIS… JETS NEED TO DISABLE BRANDON AND MARSHALL. CLEAVLAND WILL BE 🔥🔥 HOT ON JETS RECEIVERS SO WATCH OUT THEY ARE TRYING TO INTERCEPT THE BALL 🏈… LASTLY THE JETS CANNOT GET PENALTIES THIS GAME AT ALL THE JETS MUST KEEP CONFIDENCE AND NOT GET AGGRIVATED HOWEVER; STILL SHOWING AGGRESSIVENESS.
