Today is November 3rd!
MLB options must be exercised within five days of the World Series when free agency begins. Players cannot sign with a new team until 5 p.m. ET on the fifth day after the conclusion of the World Series.
The deadline for teams to tender qualifying offers to free agents is also within the five day window after the World Series. Silver Sluggers will be announced on November 9th. The GM meetings will be November 10th to November 13th. The non-tender deadline is November 21st.
The 2025 MLB Winter Meeting is scheduled to take place in Orlando from December 7th to December 11th with the Rule 5 draft on December 10th. As you may remember, the Mets signed Juan Soto on day one of the 2024 winter meetings in Dallas.
The Mets are hosting their annual MetsGiving Food Drive to benefit City Harvest on Thursday, November 13 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Mets Team Store. City Harvest is New York City’s first and largest food rescue organization. This year, City Harvest will rescue more than 86 million pounds of nutritious, high-quality food that would otherwise go to waste and deliver it for free to hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens and community partners across the five boroughs. Fans donating at least 10 non-perishable items will receive a voucher redeemable for two tickets to a select Monday – Thursday Mets home game in 2026. Fans will be limited to one ticket voucher. Fans who donate will also receive an exclusive 20% discount at the team store.

Fuck Chase Utley
The New York Football Giants suck. The Knicks are frustrating and will take some time to get into rhythm under Mike Brown (if they do at all). Hot Stove season it is I guess.
Feel for IKF and for what he’s going through, but his explanation made it worse lol.
Dude doesn’t wanna get doubled off, fair, but you don’t hug 3B due to it. You match Muncys distance from the bag, maybe a little less if you want to be conservative.
Also you’re a pinch runner, with a sliding mitt. If you let Max Muncy beat you to the bag, what use do you really have?
Also it’s bases loaded with the ball on the ground— why aren’t you sliding head first at home on contact?
I just want deGrom, Cease, Alonso, and Diaz. Is that so much for a guy to ask for?
Really like the focus on turning this team into an elite defensive unit this off-season, even if it’ll take a couple of years to turnover. Ronny Mauricio was 2nd on the team with OAA (3 😬). Throughout the World Series it was hard to watch plays get made and think “50/50 the Mets make that play.” Good defensive baseball is also fun for all levels of fans to watch. We’ll see how they thread the needle in the offseason to not sacrifice too much offense.
Even if every owner was willing to run up a $300-$400 million payroll (and make no mistake about it, they’re all billionaires – cheap owners feel like a far bigger problem to the sport than the Dodgers or other high spending teams) – it’s still never going to be a truly even playing field. Things like organizational success, structure, playing opportunity, marketing opportunity etc will always matter. But the biggest one of them all – location. In this scenario where all owners spend a lot, the Marlins and Rays would almost certainly see massive improvements immediately because duh, a lot of players would love to live in Florida all year and get the tax benefits.
On the flipside of this – no disrespect to the Midwest but there’s simply a lot of players who view many of those places as flyover states. Outside of Chicago the other Central teams probably wouldn’t be near the top of a lot of players’ wish lists. Hell for the last 2 offseasons the Blue Jays struggled to get players to take their money despite being ready and willing to spend a ton. And it’s almost all due to location and taxes. Maybe the year they just had will get guys ready to consider them more seriously.
My basic point though – not saying there aren’t things baseball could do at some point to level the playing field but there’s basically no magic world where it’s truly equal everywhere. The big markets are simply always going to have built-in advantages and probably none moreso than the Dodgers. Beautiful weather year round, tons to do, endless marketing opportunity, maybe the only major market in the country where you can be relatively anonymous in your day-to-day life because stars are out and about everywhere.

Adam Ottavino will be bringing Pete Alonso on to his livestream in a week (Monday, November 10th at 11:00 AM) for an interview! I’m very excited, be there or be square.
BA dropped their new top ten for the Mets
– McLean
– Benge
– Tong
– Jett
– Sproat
– Ewing
– Clifford
– Reimer
– Wenninger
– Santucci
Really kind of relieved we only have TWO of our own free agents to think about this offseason. Alonso and Diaz. Everything else is interchangeable with most prolly not coming back to change the culture.
Baseball America’s Matt Eddy is hosting a chat at 2 p.m. ET to discuss McLean and the overall state of New York’s farm system.
