Good Morning Football: Week 9 Reaction!

NFL network. Okay, come on.
Whoa, whoa. Welcome to Good
Morning Football presented by old trapper. Yeah that’s right
Jamie urinal, Manti te’o,
Rashad Jennings and Kyle Brandt. Kyle. Right. Good. Better. Best
never put it to rest. Whatever.
The rest of your game gets better and better gets better.
Thank you very much. Excellent,
excellent. Hey, you guys doing it? Kyle, you got a new friend
in Manhattan? Yeah. Rashad
Jennings is here. This is my guy. Try to look at this shot
and try to figure out which one
of us won dancing with the stars and which one of us had
100 yards against Yale in the
90s. It’s that it’s not that hard to do, guys. You can
figure it out. Are you ready to
talk some ball? Oh, yeah, man, I’m looking forward to it. I
was at the Giants Niners game
yesterday. That was something. We’ll get into it. We’ll get
into all the games. There was
like 26 different games that were wildly intoxicated
yesterday. And we want to talk
about all of them right LA yes. Go. Let’s go man I got a
college sweater on. We’re
talking NFL Sunday Night Football Kyle please. Here we
go. Here we go Jayden Daniels
is back after missing last week with a hamstring injury trying
to snap the commanders three
game losing streak. But Sam Darnold painted himself a
Picasso Tory Horton Mr. P90x
with a four yard touchdown. All right so that’s seven nothing
no big deal no big deal. Sam
Darnold puts in the next DVD for Tory Horton again for P90x.
Bring it. Who is Tory Horton.
We’ve heard about him a little bit this year. And you better
have because he has five
receiving touchdowns on the season. Next Elijah Arroyo. Who
the hell is Elijah Arroyo?
We’ll get into it, guys. We’ll get into it. We’re learning
about all of these. It’s not
just J’sun. Although he had another monster night. Now it’s
21 to nothing. Darnold just
playing sandlot. Why the hell not. Who is this. That’s the
man. That’s Jaxon Smith-njigba.
Just in case you’re wondering eight catches 129. He is by far
leading the NFL in receiving
Darnold. Let’s go to oh why not Cody White. Who the hell is
Cody White. We’re going to get
into it I promise. Darnold can throw to anybody. And he’s
dominating right now an
absolute annihilation in the nation’s capital. No politics
jokes I promise. Here we go.
The jerseys look great though for the commanders I mean
really really good. And then
down 38 to 7 here’s the franchise rolling out going
down and staying down. The left
hand went to Handplant. You see that is not how an elbow is
supposed to look. Good morning.
How’s your breakfast? The commanders are all on a knee.
Dan Quinn is out there. And the
franchise, as Debo looks on, walks off in some sort of air
cast on his left elbow. We’re
going to have Ian Rapoport talk about this momentarily. It’s
been a horrible night and a
horrible season right now for the commanders I hate to say
that but let’s make it about
the Seahawks who are six and two and just did anything they
wanted last night. We’re going
to hear from both coaches. Mike McDonald who is the coach of
the Seahawks. It’s not Pete
Carroll and Dan Quinn who also has a history in Seattle but is
not feeling it right now. We’re
chasing it. You know, the guys are determined and and it’s fun
to watch. And the teams when
the team comes together. That’s this type of stuff that you can
do when you when you play the
right way, you prepare the right way. All the coaches
involved in the game plan
process, I thought we had some great answers and and it all
came together. We couldn’t stop
them and we completely stopped ourself. Hard to have that. You
see the entire team, you know,
on a knee circling up on Jaden. So the update on him is he does
have a left elbow injury. But
that’s what I know tonight. And just unacceptable performance
by us tonight. I told the team
we the one that dug the hole. We the ones that dig it out.
The solutions are from within.
So we missed it by a mile. 3814 the final Seahawks win. They
moved to six and two. However,
the headline out of Washington, D.C. this morning is what
happened to Jayden Daniels late
in the game Ian Rapoport good morning to you our NFL network
insider that is with us today.
Last night the head coach said it is a left elbow injury. What
more do you have for us this
morning. Yeah there are some more details. It was a gruesome
gruesome looking injury for
star quarterback Jayden Daniels. But certainly at its face going
into the MRI. Maybe not as bad
as it could have been. It is in fact a dislocated left elbow,
sources say, which certainly is
going to knock Jayden Daniels out several weeks now. My
understanding is X-rays were
negative. That is a good sign. So no fracture. He’s going to
have an MRI. Probably not today,
probably on Tuesday, maybe just to give it a little more time
and get a little bit of a
cleaner read. But there is a possibility that this is not a
season ending injury for Jayden
Daniels. And all injuries are different and players recover
different. But just to give you
an example, Khalil Mack again, different position, different
human. He had a similar injury
a couple of weeks ago. An ugly looking dislocated elbow ended
up missing about five weeks. So
it is possible for Jayden Daniels to be back. The MRI is
going to tell the story just
about how much damage there is to the ligaments, but certainly
possible. It’s not as bad as it
seemed. All right. Rapsheet and what about the trade deadline
is happening tomorrow?
Something some news already this morning. Yeah, we’ll stay
right here in the NFC East. The
Philadelphia Eagles are at it again. They have agreed to
terms on a trade for Dolphins.
Edge Jaelan Phillips the former first rounder a bit of a tough
year for Phillips has battled
injuries but does go for a third rounder from Miami to the
Philadelphia Eagles. It’s
actually the worst of the third rounders. They have a couple of
them, but Jalen Phillips
carried a big salary. I believe it was about six or so, maybe a
little more million dollars. My
understanding is the Dolphins pick that up. They pay the
money to get the better pick
for the Eagles. What they have done over the course of the
last several weeks certainly
catches our eye. They have signed Brandon Graham out of
retirement. They have traded
for Jaire Alexander. They traded for Michael Carter the
second. Now Jalen Phillips goes
from the Dolphins to the Eagles. Thanks Rapsheet Howie Roseman
is a maniac. But this much we
knew about him building up the Eagles roster ahead of another
push through February. What
people did not know was what the Seahawks were going to
bring to the table. While it
was a devastating evening for the commanders on Sunday Night
Football, we have to look at
the total product last night. And when you look at this
Seattle Seahawks team, I know
while many people want to talk about the quarterback they
signed over the summer, that
doesn’t mean their defense hasn’t put clamps down on their
opponents. Yeah, and it’s often
hard to just put aside the offense. And Sam Darnold and
his his first incompletion
being in the third quarter. It’s insane. But that defense
guys for them to go against an
explosive offense like the Washington Washington
commanders and to be able to
put pressure on Jayden Daniels, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a
defense be able to contain
Jayden Daniels where they’re blitzing or not blitzing, like
these guys were able to put
pressure on him sometimes just blitzing for and Leonard
Williams a wily veteran, he got
a sack I mean they got a turnover. But Leonard Williams
goes and he makes this insane
play of effort trying to run down Jayden Daniels hits him by
the ankles and brings him down.
So I don’t think you could look at any other team in the NFL
and and see if there’s one that
is more complete than the Seattle Seahawks offensively,
defensively and special teams.
Special teams coming up with the turnover every single week.
It seems like the Seattle
Seahawks beat you with the entire team effort. They can
beat you offensively,
defensively and on special teams. So when I look at the
Seattle Seahawks team last
night was just one of those echoes throughout this season
of the Seattle of the Seattle
Seahawks being one of the more dominant teams in the NFL.
Rashad, what do you got, man?
Listen, when you talk about the Seattle Seahawks, somebody you
got to give a little bit of
credit to. Let’s talk about the GM. Let’s talk about the
president. Let’s talk about
John Schneider. He’s been able to do this year in and year out.
When we saw Geno Smith was let
go a lot of people said I wonder what he’s doing when he
let go of DK Metcalf. People
questioned, what is he doing when they let go of Tyler
Lockett. They said, what is he
doing? Well, I’ll tell you exactly what he did. He brought
over immediately. Sam Darnold,
who was a first round draft pick, revived himself in his
career. Now over with the
Seattle Seahawks. He depending on Jason doing his thing every
single week every single week
in and out. And then they brought over a Cooper Kupp. But
now we’re pointing out he’s
throwing the ball to any and everybody. And they’re leaning
on their defense. They’re heavy
in the NFC. They are the team that are the sleeper. Just like
I look on the opposite side
with the AFC. The Colts are kind of that sleeper. And this
is a situation where I think
he’s really good. He’s a really good GM. They have a really
good roster and there’s
somebody that’s going to be tough moving forward to beat. I
know we all get all excited
about the Sunday action. You watch the whole game, you do
red zone. You watch this game,
this game, that finale last night was a completely horrible
one sided game that was never
in question. And that’s because of how good Sam Darnold was. I
am screaming this morning talk
about Sam Darnold. Sam Darnold I thought he was gonna throw a
perfect game. I thought he was
going to go 30 for 30 with 30 touchdowns. Like he was going
to have his own documentary. He
was that good. I mean it was like I feel like he watched
what Ohtani did a couple weeks
ago and was like, I got this. He was amazing. And let me tell
you the most important part,
Sam Darnold is out there after a year in which he was in
Minnesota and it was Jefferson
and Addison and all these crazy weapons. Did you see the names
of the guys he was throwing to?
It wasn’t all smooth. And he’s throwing to this Tory Horton,
who is a fifth round rookie out
of Colorado State. And Darnold just found something in him.
They have chemistry. All right.
So then you throw to Horton. We’ve seen him this year Elijah
Arroyo folks Elijah Arroyo is
another rookie who’s going to catch his first ever touchdown
in the NFL. First ever. This is
the first one. So that’s pretty cool. He got his first
touchdown Cody White caught his
first ever touchdown in the NFL. And that’s an undrafted guy
who’s been on five teams in
four years. Sam Darnold is out there just fish in a barrel to
anybody. And then he’ll just
keep hitting Smith. And you wanted to say Sam Darnold
comeback player of the year.
Sam Darnold is like I’m going to mess around and get MVP. Are
you kidding me. And they’re not
a sleeper team anymore. It’s over. You can’t sleep on a six
and two team if you are
sleeping on a six and two team. Who’s maybe the best road team
in the entire NFL, you’re not
sleeping. You’re nodding off and study hall not paying
attention. They’re showing you
how good they are. Every single week. They annihilated the
commanders. This game never
mattered for one second. And I will ask again, does anybody
care? Outside of a few
platforms and a few Twitter accounts, the Seattle Seahawks
are a top five team right now.
What are they talking about on ESPN? Are they talking about
Sam Darnold? Are they talking
about him on Fox Sports one. Or is this just all bills Chiefs
and everything. It’s fine. Do
you you’re the legends. But Sam Darnold looks like one of the
best quarterbacks in football
right now. And Daniel Jones stepped aside fell on his face
yesterday. We’ll get to that.
But Sam Darnold put on an absolute show. And most of the
talk is well Jaden Dan Quinn
should’ve had him in there. Who cares for a second. Let’s talk
about the Seahawks because they
are continuing to annihilate people in front of them. And
I’m here for it. Kyle, you know
what kept me up at night after that Seahawks game that at the
half Sam Darnold was perfect 14
for 14. Something like that. Someone in his locker room had
the audacity to inform him that
he was throwing a perfect game. And then he tells Melissa Stark
after the game that player is
going to remain unnamed. I need to know who it is. I need to
know if it was Horton, if it
was Cooper Kupp standing there with a hoodie on. I need to
know who ruined the perfect Sam
Darnold game so we can shout him out. No. So we can blame
them. No I’m just kidding. Who
did it. Come on. Who’s that unnamed player Kyle I need to
know what else do you got for
us. Yeah it might have been Cooper Kupp who didn’t play
last night who didn’t have him
out there. I remember Goff had a perfect game last year and he
was all like, oh really? I did
obviously don’t mention it to him at halftime guys. He would
have finished. But in the
meantime every time we watch Chiefs Bills you it’s so good.
No matter who you’re rooting
for or who wins. And there they are. It is always nail biting
entertainment. Let’s start
scoreless early. Third and eight. Josh Allen was hitting
the tight ends all night.
Dalton Kincaid looked like a star last night. He hits him
early. Seven nothing lead 13.
Touchdown pass for Allen. All right bam he spikes. He was
doing a lot of spiking last
night too. Second quarter Chiefs in the red zone. Look at
rice. And he runs it right in
God he’s a really good player. When he is out there they are a
different type of team. That’s
his first career rushing touchdown. Here we go. Late
second quarter there was all
kinds of tush pushing going on. You like to see it Rashad no no
no that’s a one word answer I
understand. But the bills were doing it and they do this
sloppy version of. But it was
working last night 21 to 10. Watch this defensive play by
Cole Bishop who was fantastic.
Boom. That is Kelce right in the chest right with the
shoulder. No flag no nothing.
Kelce walks off. Was shaken up. He’s tough. Third quarter 21 to
13. We have a third and goal
from the one. And we’re pushing the tush. We’re pushing it over
and over. They always go left.
And remember the Chiefs stopped them a few times back in the
title game. But it wasn’t
really working tonight. Fourth quarter 28 to 13 on a fourth
and one. They run hunt right up
the middle. Hunt was good. He always runs hard. But the
Chiefs continue to never
quarterback sneak. This game. Got nuts in the fourth quarter,
including a fourth and 17 that
they went for and got Mahomes. Look at this guy Maxwell
Hairston. The rook rookie
throws it deep. It’s kind of like a punt. But Maxwell
Hairston gets his first career
interception. It’s incredible. He’s fired up. All right 11
seconds left after the bills
miss a field goal and give the Chiefs a chance. This is really
their last legitimate shot I
thought this was going to be caught but boom Cole Bishop
breaks it up from behind Joey
Bosa was an animal. We’re going to get to him later. They did
have another down after this,
but it was nothing and they didn’t even get to the end zone.
flips. But 2821 very, verythat
exciting game in which the bills were the better team
really from start to finish.
But the Chiefs almost stole it at the end. Afterwards. Let’s
hear from those two
quarterbacks after this one there the pinnacle of what you
want your franchise to be.
They’ve been that for the last eight years. You know anytime
you get a chance to play, you
know the best and you can come away with a victory. You’re
going to be feeling pretty good.
We’ve had great moments. We’ve had bad moments. We’ve got to
be more consistent as a team.
I’ve got to be more consistent at quarterback and we’ve got to
be able to battle. I mean,
we’ve kind of been in a lot of these these tight, close games
in our history, but they’re not
going our way now. So how can we deal with that adversity?
How can we be better and learn
from it? I mean, you only learn from so many losses. I mean,
you got to you got to learn
from it fast. And it’s going to be an uphill battle when we get
back. But I think our guys are
up to it. All right. Josh Allen five and one in the regular
season against the Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes four and oh against the bills in the
postseason. We know the reality
of this matchup and whether it matters in November, October,
September or January. Where do
you go? What answers did you glean from watching these two
teams play yesterday? Well, I’m
going to go straight to Kyle. Kyle, I heard you had something
about this game that you had
that you wanted to share. My brother well, listen, let’s
let’s talk about this because
last week when leading up to this game, we were talking
about how does this game really
matter? I said it myself. It doesn’t feel like the stakes
are that high, because pretty
much every single time the bills win and then every single
time they lose in the playoffs.
And this really followed the script closely. But at the same
time, you have to credit the
bills. They’re very difficult team to beat Kansas City. And I
just think there’s one thing
that looked different when we see this year in, year out,
look for things that look
different. Joey Bosa was amazing for the bills. Amazing
like a total difference maker.
And if you were a Buffalo fan or a Chiefs fatigue type person,
and if you’re looking for how
is this game ever going to be different? In January, Bosa was
unblockable. At the end of the
game. They were rolling Mahomes away for him. They were
designing double teams. They
could not stop Bosa. And the one thing the bills have really
looked for in the Josh Allen
era is a dominant, dominant pass rusher on the edge. They
brought in Von Miller. They’ve
had guys like Groot. They’ve had fine. It’s been fine. Not
bad. Bosa last night. Like I
haven’t seen him play this meaningful of a game in years.
They bring him in and everybody
kind of rolls their eyes because you know he’s washed
this. Then he gets injured of
course. And everyone says he’s always injured. Bosa last night
in the fourth quarter along
with Cole Bishop were the best players for the bills.
Unbelievable. So if Bosa is
standing and healthy in January when you guys know that these
two teams are going to play,
and if you’re looking for a difference maker, I have not
seen Joey Bosa play this well
in years. This was like prime Chargers healthy Bosa and I
think he is a huge factor in
why they won this game. Rashaad absolutely everybody know about
Bosa. Bosa is a game wrecker.
He’s the X factor. He is a guy that every time you play him
offensive coordinator
highlights his highlights his name. But I also want to talk
about the Kansas City Chiefs.
And actually if you look at it, I’m kind of speculating and
still worried about him. And
the reason why is because if you look at the Kansas City
Chiefs, they’ve always been an
offense run heavy, offense run heavy team, right. You lean on
offense a lot of times. But
this time they actually right now through eight games they
have the number four overall
defense. And they are still five and four. So I don’t know
how much better their defense
can get to give their offense more time. They brought Rashee
Rice back. Obviously he’s a
difference maker. Patrick Mahomes is who he is. Kelce is
staying healthy. They’ve got a
lot of different weapons. They’re consistent on offensive
side of the ball, but they’re
not getting the wins that they’re used to winning. Last
year we watched them win about
12 games by 1.5 and four team. They have a record problem.
It’s not good. It’s not good.
So I’m curious about how it’s going to play out this year in
the playoffs when they meet.
And I think it may end up on a column of Josh Allen getting
his first win against Patrick
Mahomes in the playoffs. If it continues like this, I’m gonna
bring all the points together.
Okay, so remember those shoes I talked about? Yeah. The running
the running shoes. Those shoes
I mean the bills are made to beat two teams, the Miami
Dolphins and the Kansas City
Chiefs. Those two teams you look at the speed and KB
brought up Joey Bosa.
Everything on that defensive line is to guard against the
pass, and it matches perfectly
well against the Kansas City Chiefs. Why? Because the Kansas
City Chiefs don’t really run
the ball. They’ve had a bunch of problems and issues of
trying to establish a run game.
Kareem Hunt they talked about it last night on the broadcast.
They have the hunt. But he he
goes in there third and one fourth and one and gets you one
yard. The best running back
they got is Rashee Rice and Wildcat right now. So when you
when you add all of that
together you’re looking at the Buffalo Bills defense. That’s
fast. They’re lean and they
match it really really well against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now on the flip side of the
ball offensively you have someone like Josh Allen. Spags
likes to dial it up. He likes
to be all fancy with it. When you have somebody like Josh
Allen, that’s smart and he has
the physical abilities that he has that negates everything
that you’re trying to do, fancy
wise on the defensive side of the ball. So again, this shoe
that is the Buffalo Bills was
built to beat two teams during the season, the Miami Dolphins
and the Kansas City Chiefs.
What I’m looking forward to is what happens. And I think we
all are when it really counts
in the postseason. Because like to Katie’s point, we all kind
of anticipated this, Jamie.
We’re like, okay, they’re probably going to win. And then
we’re going to see them again
in January and we’ll see what happens then. So this team is
going to be there in January.
Both of these teams are going to be in January. We’re going
to see what that looks like.
Another chapter to this saga. The stakes were different last
night for this matchup because
this stuff matters. As it pertains the AFC playoff
picture today. Now we have a
fun little column on the far right side that we editorially
decided to call lurking years
ago on Gmfb. Right now, the Chiefs are on the outside of
the playoffs looking in now.
This matters for a lot of reasons. If the playoffs ended
today, period done, you don’t
see the Chiefs in January. Secondly, they have a couple of
what some would deem tough AFC
opponents coming up in the Broncos and the Colts. And then
they see the Cowboys at the end
of the month. So you’re talking about shoes. We’re wondering if
the Chiefs are going to be that
come running team that we see on Gmfb. Or will they remain on
the outside in a track meet
where the guy is just pushed out and he can’t make his way
into the race? All right. We’re
making all types of parallels here on Gmfb. Let’s look at the
Panthers. Did they come running
yesterday in green Bay? What happened? Any time people start
referencing how many touchdown
underdog a team was, you got to start looking at this highlight.
Thank you to Rico Dowdle for
putting up not only angry runs of the year, but also putting a
team on his back and running
through a Packers defense yesterday. Kyle, everything’s
coming up Rico. It’s an amazing,
amazing player and incredible season plus. All right so the
Steelers were playing terribly.
The Colts were playing Invincibly. And guys this is
why you watch the games because
of what happened yesterday. This is why you tune in. This
is why they say any given
Sunday. This was not a close football game until the very
end score. But the Colts
absolutely wheels came off. Can you get them back on. We’ll
talk about it after this. This
one was crazy. Good morning football is presented by old
trapper beef jerky. What’s your
beef? Old trapper beefs energy they’re correctly buckled in
the back seat. Roll that ball
Diane woo! You got this. All right. The Steelers have not
been playing their best
football. The Colts look like the best team in the NFL. So
what happens when they get
together. Let’s find out. Already up seven. Nothing. Do
you think the Colts are going
to roll again TJ what TJ what’s the hell out of this play. He
reaches over. He’s going to
strip the ball. He’s going to recover the ball. This is all
the things that the Steelers
defense has been needing to do over the last few weeks. That’s
just a crazy individual effort.
While his brother was on the call of course. All right. So
Steelers ball now tied seven
seven Daniel Jones. Just do the Daniel Jones thing. It always
looks nope. Picked off Peyton
Wilson Daniel Jones doesn’t do that. Yes he does today. This
is Wilson’s first interception
this season. He gets a nice return Jones is looking at the
Microsoft Surface trying to get
it to work. Rogers turns 42 in about a month. Freiermuth got
it. Touchdown. Steelers take
the lead Rodgers has 17 touchdown passes this season.
And a Tiger Woods fist pump.
You love to see it. Third quarter. Now the Colts are down
by ten. What’s going on. They
score 30 every week. Look at this play by the Steelers
defense. It’s tipped up in the
air by Peyton Wilson. Jack Sawyer from Ohio State
intercepts it. This is
everything the Colts have not been doing. Sloppy bad mistakes
so many turnovers. Look at that
for all year for today. And they had more. And now you just
give it to Jalen Warren the
ball of butcher knives. Touchdown. Steelers are now
opening up a can. They’re
blowing out the Colts. Remember last week the Steelers lost at
home to the Packers. They
looked terrible. And then yesterday the Packers looked
terrible 27 to 17 Daniel Jones
trying to make the comeback. He chucks it down. It’s picked off
again. That’s Joey Porter Jr
six takeaways for the Steelers against the Colts six. And look
there’s Joey Porter senior
Joseph Eugene Porter incredible Steeler Daniel Jones with grass
stains on the front of his
jersey. Probably the back two. The Colts are going to end up
losing by seven. But it was a
big statement by the Steelers defense saying we’re still here.
Everybody talk your crap. We
just beat the Colts up pretty badly. And afterwards you won’t
believe this. But Mike Tomlin
reaches deep into the vineyard for one of his favorite
expressions about the
difference between winning and losing. It’s a fine line
between drinking wine and
squashing grapes. In this business, it’s nothing dramatic.
That’s that’s football at this
level. It’s a it’s a limited number of plays or sequences
that can really change the
trajectory of an outcome. We’re still the same group that stunk
it up last week. Love the
honesty. We’re still the same group. Stay humble. Stay humble.
Right. Thanks, coach. Steelers
and the Colts. Their second loss of the season humbled
Indianapolis on their way into
town. Manti I know you were saying my guy my guy about
somebody who you are going to
give an award to later. Until then, what else stood out to
you in Pittsburgh? Yeah. So
when I watched yesterday’s game, I saw a Colts team that was
very one dimensional. And
credit to to the Pittsburgh Steelers defense. Six takeaways.
That’s a lot of takeaways. But
what I saw in Shane Steichen and how he was running this
game and calling this game, you
know, in the first half they ran about 40 plays. You know
how many times Jonathan Taylor
touched the ball? Eight times. Oh, no, it’s not enough. So you
mean the guy that is leading
the league in rushing yards, rushing TDs, scrimmage yards,
scrimmage TDs. He’s the number
one and everything. He touched the ball eight times. That’s it.
So then the second half comes.
You’re down by more than two scores. Now you have to throw
the ball. You can’t run the
ball and do what you’ve been successful for you for so many
weeks. So you get one
dimensional at the end of the day. Indy, Indiana,
Indianapolis Colts ran 70 plays.
Jonathan Taylor touched the ball 14 times. Not enough.
That’s a losing recipe, guys.
That’s a losing recipe. So what I saw in the first half was an
Indianapolis Colts team trying
to get cute with it. They were trying to get pretty with it
with. And what they didn’t do
was rely on a theme that got them there. And what a great
what a great lesson it is for
the Colts right now, because they’re still a very dominant
team. Don’t don’t nobody panic.
I just thought that when they went into Pittsburgh, they
tried to do something that they
didn’t do for the past 8 or 9 games, and it caught them. And
they ran into a defense like
the Pittsburgh Steelers that when you’re behind and when
those rushers know that you
have to throw the ball and they get to pin their ears back,
that’s what happens. So Shane,
let’s get back to what we did, what we do very well. And
that’s get the ball to Jonathan
Taylor and let him do his thing. Yeah. Steelers Colts something
had to give. You got the top
offense going against one of ranked one of the 30th worst
defenses right now. When you
think about the game what I really consider is how much of
a victory was this outside of a
W, right. Obviously a W is a W. We take it when we can get it.
But the thing about it is when
you have a 6 to 1 turnover ratio and the score, you only
won by seven points. I don’t
know how much I can hang my hat on it. I had to go back and
look at history. And when was
the last time there was a 6 to 1 ratio and there was a split
that was close. I didn’t find
any because in 2016, the Panthers beat the Cardinals 49
to 15. It was in the 6 to 1
split. When you have a 6 to 1 split and you only win by seven,
it’s very concerning that. Hey
listen, the Colts still outpassed them. They outran
them. They didn’t obviously out
scheme them. There was a lot of execution issues. There wasn’t
discipline as we’re used to the
Colts being in the AFC. But however I still love the Colts
in this division. I love the
Colts and the entire conference because they’re still tough.
They’re physical. They’re just
like the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC. I hear you completely.
And that was this was I said
this a bunch of times on the show. Like this is just why you
have to watch the league every
single Sunday. Because the second you get married to a
storyline or a season, it
completely comes undone in front of you. The Steelers. I
am always so amused by the
nuclear magnetic attraction. The Steelers have to ten and
seven. They will get there. If
they start zero and seven, they’re going to win ten in a
row. If they start ten and zero,
they’re going to lose seven in a row. I promise you this was
the perfect Steelers game in
which written them off. This is Tomlin’s first losing season.
This this this. And they come
out and have a really impressive win in front of
their home crowd. The Steelers
will get there. You know it I know it. No matter how they
have to do it they will be in
the playoffs. The one thing the Colts did and the one thing
Daniel Jones did, is he gave a
tiny little opening to the internet to do the thing that
they love to do, which is dust
off their old stupid jokes. And they’re all out today, and it’s
Daniel Jones regressed to his
factory defaults, and Daniel Jones put on his Giants jersey,
and Indiana Jones became Danny
Dimes again. Listen, I’m not going to sit here and ride for
the Colts for six straight
weeks, and then they have a bad game in Pittsburgh. I suddenly
jump ship. It’s a stupid way to
watch football. It’s an irresponsible way to do media.
I’m not doing it. I still think
the Colts are a really, really good team. And Daniel Jones had
a terrible day. He really did.
What are you going to say? It’s a really strange journey
they’re going on from here.
Because as bizarre and unexpected as the season has
been, they now go to Europe
overseas and they play the weird time zone game against
Atlanta. Then they go on a bye
and then they go to Arrowhead. So over the next three weeks,
it’s a very strange set of
circumstances where we’re not going to really know what to do
with this team. I still see the
O line, the running back, the wide receiver corps. I still
think this is a team that’s
going to win somewhere around 12 or 13 games. And that’s
unbelievable. Like this is a
team I think is still going to be in contention for the one
seed, I really do. I think, in
fact, that terrible loss yesterday I think maybe is good
for them. Were the Colts
feeling themselves a bit, were they finally in sleepy little
Indianapolis with this up and
coming team saying like, wow, look where we are in the power
rankings and Daniel Jones this
and Jonathan Taylor this. Sometimes it’s good to get
backhanded a little bit and to
see yourself bleed before, especially before you go to
Europe and play a Falcons team.
Nobody knows what to make of this might be a good thing if
they recover from it. If Colts
fans are saying, good thing that game was horrible. Rashad
just said you had six turnovers
and you lost by seven points in Pittsburgh. It was a terrible
day. Can’t get much worse. You
you move on from it and prove everybody you’re still the best
team in the league. Yeah. At
the halfway point of the season, take the air out of the balloon
a little bit. Listen, a year
ago about it was Daniel Jones was in Germany playing for a
different team and having a
very uncomfortable product on the field. He looks like a
different guy. And here is his
opportunity to prove it. The international games return in
week ten, as the Falcons and
the aforementioned Colts head to Germany for a showdown, this
time not in Munich. In Berlin,
the action gets underway Sunday at 9:30 a.m. eastern, which you

network exclusively. Or you can stream it on NFL plus. The NFL
international games return with
a debut in Berlin. And on NFL network. Our stars come out in
the morning. Bijan Robinson and
the Falcons are ready to run wild, but Daniel Jones and the
Colts are looking to build on
their hot start. About to be a movie. It’s Sunday morning
football. Snooze off game on

Let’s go. Let’s take a trip to Titletown where the Packers
took on this man. Happy
birthday Jordan Love. It was his 27th birthday yesterday,
but this is not what you want
on your birthday. Josh Jacobs goes around for 16 yards, but
on the replay you’re going to
see Tucker. Kraft gets hurt. He gets hurt. You see him right
here. He gets hit. He hits his
knee. And you’re just like you don’t want to see that. You
don’t want to see one of your
star players. One of the best tight ends in the game on a
cart going into the tunnel. But
this is something you do want to see. If you’re the if you’re
the Panthers. Rico Dowdle under
a minute left. Rico Dowdle goes 19 yards. Rico will go 2525
rushing for 130 yards two
touchdowns. They would bring in the rookie Ryan Fitzgerald, who
has sealed the deal with the
game winning field goal. The Panthers will win 16 to 13.
They move on to five and four.
The Packers 45 two and one KB Broncos Texans an ugly game. A
couple of teams that we kind of
expected to be in the playoffs trying to find themselves.
Denver has won five in a row
and I said it was ugly. The score. And then this. It’s the
second quarter. Stroud’s going
to break the pocket head upfield. He’s going to slide
and then gets popped hard and
hits the ground hard. That’s Chris Abrams drain. It’s one of
those things where they’re in
the middle of the slide. The DB doesn’t want him to get the
first down. It’s just I don’t
know you hate to see it. And he gets knocked out of the game.
We’re getting Davis Mills
against the Broncos. We’re jumping all the way to the
fourth quarter because we’re
not missing much. That’s RJ Harvey for a 27 yard touchdown
pass. Nicks got hot late after
playing pretty sloppy for the majority of the game, and this
is just a matter of eking it
out. 1515 Wil Lutz 34 yarder. Get on the plane, get home with
the win, Denver slowly,
steadily continuing to stack wins. There was some really
strange clock management at the
end of the game for Houston and Davis Mills. They’re now three
and five and have all kinds of
problems. But look at the record next to the Broncos
seven and two. I don’t care how
ugly the game was. Sean Payton talked about it. A lot of these
numbers that that are important
sack differential first in the league scoring differential
first in the league. There’s
like 4 or 5 of these things. Fourth quarter point
differential. It would be a
league record. Right now they’re playing for each other.
You know no one wants to let
anyone down. That’s a good thing. All right great
highlights to watch this
morning after a really fascinating Sunday. However it
does not come without its
heartbreak. We already talked about Jayden Daniels and what
happened on Sunday Night
Football Ian Rapoport. But with more on that our NFL Network
Insider joining us to talk
Tucker Kraft and the Texans quarterback. What’s up. We’ll
start with the Texans
quarterback. Start with C.J. Stroud who was knocked out of
this game in the NFL’s
concussion protocol. If you watch it you can see right away
he’s a tough shot. Right to the
head. Was kind of sliding. Took his shot, ended up going into
the tent and then into the
locker room with the unaffiliated neuro expert.
Essentially, he is now in the
NFL’s concussion protocol. This is the hit right there. You can
see his head hit the back of
the turf. Stroud. We will see when he is able to come back.
But Davis Mills is the backup
quarterback. Every player recovers from a concussion
differently, but certainly the
possibility that Stroud misses the next game for the green Bay
Packers, one of their young
stars, seems to be facing the potential end to his season.
Tucker Kraft is feared to have
torn his ACL and would be out for the season. He is going to
have an MRI today. You can see
he left on the cart in significant, significant pain
and significant frustration.
This is one that if you’re the player you knew, this was
pretty bad right from the
outset. Matt LaFleur saying after the game, not looking
good for him. So we will see
from the MRI, but obviously not a lot of optimism there. And
then for Joe Alt, the Chargers
star left tackle. Once again we are talking about a lower leg
injury for Joe Alt. Actually
similar to the last one that was a high ankle sprain. This
is believed to be a high ankle
sprain. Seems like he’s in more pain this time than last time.
Missed a little over a month
last time. So if you’re kind of doing the math and you’re
trying to figure out when Joe
Alt would be able to come back, if he can come back, would be
looking at late, late in the
season or potentially in the playoffs. Just a rough blow.
Bad injury, luck for the Los
Angeles Chargers at the tackle position. What a game changer
he was when Joe Alt returned
the Chargers. We will wait and see how long he is out this
time around. Rap sheet. Thank
you so much. Kyle just mentioned during one of the
highlights earlier, sometimes
you just got to jump to the end to find out what happened. We
wouldn’t even have enough time
to show you the end of what happened in bears. Bengals.
This thing was a wild ride.
Buckle up. When we return Gmfb, we will do our best to click on
the seatbelt and walk you
through what happened. Plus a little trivia question coming
your way. Sunny days call for
Sun Cruiser vodka, keep your mind focused and your
mental health a priority. Eyes
forward. Don’t drive distracted. Play so nice. You got to see
him twice. Samantha, you’re up
first on rewind That. After a very eventful Sunday. What do
you got? I would see this thing
twice. Three times, four times. Put it on repeat. Because I
know if you saw Jack Campbell
and what he did to Jordan Mason, you see defensively it’s either
you make the play or you grab
the guy and throw him into the quarterback’s lap and let him
make the play. So Jack Campbell
just takes Jordan Mason, who isn’t a small dude, and throws
him into J.J. McCarthy and gets
the sack. Like, that is what I call big man, big man issues.
And so I will play that, replay
that on nonstop for me, because that’s what I like to see
McCarthy bounce like a
basketball. Then afterwards, I always like to see waved signed
asterisk guy get his first snap
in the NFL. Can I take you to the 40 Niners game at the very
end? Sub two minute warning
where Mac Jones, after having going five and two now, is the
backup for Brock Purdy, calls
himself out of the lineup. Kyle Shanahan had taken his headset
off and Mac Jones is like, no,
I want to get my guy Adrian Martinez, his first snap ever
in the NFL, fully makes his
decision on his own. Adrian Martinez, unsigned free agent
signed with the Lions in 2023,
goes to the UFL to play for the Birmingham Stallions. Is the
UFL title game MVP. Goes to the
Jets on the 40 Niners practice squad. Activated because of the
injury. And now guys, after his
one snap, his official NFL byline says one rush for
negative one yards because he
took the kneel down. Rashad, what you got? Yeah that’s what
we call a peepee player
performance. But for me I want to take a look at Brian O’Neill.
Brian O’Neill had a monstrous
block coming off the edge setting up Aaron Jones on this
screen. And look this is a
little wide receiver screen but boom. Did you see that. Can I
rewind that please. You got to
rewind that. We rewind it. Watch the tackle. He comes out.
He squares up boom sit him down.
And that’s the kind of confidence that puts into your
whole entire team. I’m telling
you when I’m a running back and I see my offensive line doing
that, I know for sure I’m going
to get some good YAC behind there because I get a full head
of steam. Shout out to Brian
O’Neill. Offensive linemen don’t get the glory, but when
you do, here’s what it should
look like, no doubt. And listen. The Bears Bengals game
yesterday was so insane that
unfortunately, all of us in the media are really at the mercy
of highlight packages. We can
only show so many plays, so I want to show a play that is not
on the highlight package. And
Ben Johnson just doing everything in this game as
advertised. You’ve seen the
pass to Caleb, but run this one. All right. So Caleb is shotgun
that’s going to go under center.
That’s the tight end. He’s going to take the snap. He’s
going to fake. He’s going to
toss it to Caleb. Caleb tosses it back to Kmet who then throws
for a modest gain of 12 yards
when trick plays aren’t even designed to go deep for
touchdowns just to move the
chains, then you’re really using them. And I feel like Ben
used them all, but I know he
has more. Watch how the pass from Caleb goes backwards to
commit fundamentally sound, and
then commit with the left handed hose from Arlington
Heights, Illinois. Definite
baseball player to Roman doomsday. Again, not for a 60
yard touchdown. What was that?
An 11 yard gain? Even their basic plays were crazy plays.
We haven’t gotten to that
highlight package yet. Bengals. Bears. Yesterday was the most
terrible, hilarious game ever.
Or like the the worst, best game ever. I don’t even know
how to say it. It was a total
mess. But you couldn’t tear your eyes away, Kyle. Were you?
No matter what, when that game
was unfolding, you’re like, no, I’m not even talking now. Can
we skip the generic. Yeah. Blue
football helmet. No. There it is. Still waiting for an
explanation of why we run that
every morning. But J.J. McCarthy is back. That’s fun.
He misses a lot of games with
injuries, but the Lions almost always beat the Vikings these
days. So let’s see how this one
goes Jared Goff on a fourth and four Campbell says go for it
man. He goes to Laporta who.
Laporta is trying to run to Center City. And they get him
in. Incredible touchdown. This
is going to be an annihilation for the Lions. We’re doing big
old high fives. But wait JJ to
JJ this is what we were promised Justin Justin
Jefferson has his first
touchdown since week one that opening night against the bears.
Remember that there’s Josh
McCown on the sideline now wait David Montgomery bobbles it but
gets it back. And boom bam ball
Harrison Smith savvy always around the ball Vikings take
over. They’re winning 17 to 14
in Detroit Montgomery furious with himself not a fumbler. And
then JJ how about this JJ is
going to show off the wheels slide get down. Know even at
the goal line he makes a little
juke. And JJ McCarthy is grinning and spinning the ball.
Rashard do you like it? I like
it man. You got a little sass a little sass just enough. Fourth
quarter up ten. The Minnesota
but Detroit so much firepower. Look at this play by Jameson
Williams got every time he
touches the ball absolutely electric. He’s going to extend
the feet looking bounce. How
about it. Lions close the gap trailing 27 to 24. But JJ with
under two to play on a third
and five. Jalen Nailor puts the nail in the coffin. And
Minnesota goes to Ford Field
and beats Detroit. Something they have not done for a few
years Aaron Jones is out there
JJ McCarthy’s out there. There’s JJ and Hutch Michigan
men Michigan men Michigan men.
They win the game 27 to 24. They really needed it. They get
to 500. The Lions fall to five
and three. And afterwards JJ McCarthy pretty emotional after
a win. This is cool. It was
awesome. Yeah. Just when you’re when you’re hurt and you know
being on IR last year and being
out for five weeks, it absolutely kills me not being
out there with those guys
because I love every single one of them. And you know, I know
they got my back and I got
theirs the rest of the way. We made too many critical errors,
man. Some of our discipline,
the penalties caught up to us. I mean, we had multiple
opportunities to set ourselves
up, to have a chance to win that game. And we we made none
of them, really. I got to clean
some stuff up. You just said, oh, man, I probably means
they’re going to go live this
week, guys. That’s that. That’s that tone. It’s like it’s going
to go live. You’re going to do
some bad tackle, mean give me some more. Let’s do it. When
you hear that lingo like yeah
right. Everything is live like go live, kick off live, punt
return like everything’s like
field goals. Live like when I hear those words from my head
coach, I’m like, oh, we ain’t
got no walkthroughs. It’s just like two a days all over again.
Training camp. That was an
incredible, perfect response. JJ McCarthy, just like Manti
wears his heart on his sleeve,
goes into a hostile environment in a return from injury, and
takes down the enemy in their
territory at Ford Field. Rashad, I’ll start with you. Since we
now understand what the Lions
practice situation is going to look like this week, what did
you take away from Vikings
Lions in Detroit? Well, first I just want to let you all know
that that inside live run on a
Wednesday is no joke folks. Yeah. Don’t you don’t want to
do that. But yeah they’re going
to have to go through it. We understand that one. But JJ you
know I spoke last week. I was
asked do I think he can take him to the playoffs. And I got
to bite my tongue just a little
bit because there’s something about him that maybe he just
got a little bit of an ick
factor to him. He went on the road two times already in his
three three start tenure so far
in the NFL, and he’s won on the road and won. He’s won against
the bears. Now he’s won against
his arch rival that’s dominated them in this series against the
Lions. So I have to sit back
and say, man, he’s putting the ball on a dime when he needs to.
Obviously there’s always some
stuff you need to clean up, but the nail in the coffin to
Nailor to end the game. He
didn’t look for his top receiver when the game was on
the line to end it. He looked
for the open guy. So he’s going through his progressions. He’s
running. He can get out of the
pocket. If he stays healthy. He might be able to surprise some
people with that roster that
they have over there with the Minnesota Vikings, especially
the way their defense is
playing. Yeah, I’m going to echo that same thing. J.J.
McCarthy played phenomenal. Yes.
He showed he showed some grit. And that’s what they needed for
the Minnesota Vikings. But I
got to give my flowers to Brian Flores and what he did with
Blake Cashman and Eric Wilson.
Like all I saw was two middle linebackers blitzing all day
long like they played. They
played extremely aggressive. And when I saw that, I saw how
it also impacted the game.
There are so many times where the Detroit Lions offensive
line, they were letting the
linemen through. Why? Because when Brian Flores kept dialing
up those interior rushing by
the linebackers, those o line didn’t know what to do. It’s
like, are the linebackers
coming? Are they dropping? And I thought that Brian Flores,
the whole game plan was like
we’re going to set things on our terms, okay. So if we have
somebody that is like Jahmyr
Gibbs, who is so excuse me, who is so dynamic out of the
backfield, the worst thing you
want to allow happen is him to run a route. And so what I saw
with this aggressive approach
by the Minnesota Vikings is it caused them to keep Jahmyr
Gibbs in. Now as a linebacker.
That’s what I want. Now you’re playing on my terms. Now I can
act like I’m blitzing you, but
I actually have you in man and get some pressure. So that’s
what I saw. And a whole bunch
of those plays by Eric Wilson and Blake Cashman was Brian
Flores said, hey, set the tempo,
set the terms on their side of the line of scrimmage and we’re
going to win this game. That’s
exactly what happened yesterday. KB yeah, I think this is one of
the surprises of the day. I
don’t think a lot of people had the Vikings going into Detroit
and winning like that, but I
just I just say good for JJ McCarthy. Honestly good for him.
The I think the goal yesterday
would have been at least from a fan perspective, just go in
there, play the entire game,
don’t get injured and play decent like just that’s I think
that’s all you could expect
right now. Don’t get hurt and play sort of well, not only
that, they won. They won. And
JJ McCarthy is so young I don’t follow him on whatever his
social media channels are.
Maybe I should, but I’m sure it’s someone from his
generation, at least over the
past month or so. You got to be on social media and see some of
the things that were being said
about you, because there were some really, really intense
things far beyond the normal
pecking at athletes. All this like he’s healthy and they’re
benching him. They should stick
with Carson Wentz over him. But this failure this like it’s
been pretty intense. And we’ve
talked about it here on this show I’m not saying I’m
innocent of it either. If you
see any of that the guy the fact that he’s played we’re not
even counting how many games
he’s played. We’re counting how many quarters JJ McCarthy has
been out there. He’s running,
he’s throwing. Not only did he get the plane down and play
decent and survive the game, he
got a touchdown to Jefferson for the first time in about two
months. He ran and he beat the
Lions. I feel like this guy’s been through it. Even in the
post game. He’s all disheveled.
He’s got this hat on, his hair’s all wet. He’s almost
crying. Like I really feel for
him. He’s been through a lot, a lot. And now he has to return
to the state of Michigan, play
against Hutchinson. There’s a lot of memories there. There’s
a lot of scar tissue there. He
didn’t play great. I’m not even sure he played that good. But
he played. He finished and he
won. And it’s like as a Vikings fan you’re like, all right, we
can work with this. We I think
we have a guy here because there was a lot of sky is
falling fear mongering going on
for the past two months. And I think at least for one day JJ
showed up and he’s like, I can
win and you can win with me. And I think that’s a cool story.
And whether you like it or not,
something we celebrate here on the show is when you are your
true authentic self. And for
those who may have done the same thing to JJ McCarthy at
the end of his Michigan tenure,
when he won a national championship with the with the
meditating and the sitting next
to the goalpost. He’s still doing it, guys. He’s still
people are still on him
yesterday about the Vikings. He arrives. He doesn’t even go to
the he drops his bag in the
locker room comes out and there he is. He’s not taking a
pregame snooze. He is doing the
meditating thing authentic to himself, wears his heart on his
shoulder. And that’s what you
saw in the press conference last night. Whatever he is
speaking to himself, it worked
in Detroit. All right. Those are your Vikings. They finally
get back to 500 within the NFC
North and the NFC. Moving on. Here’s another guy from the
2024 draft class. Drake Maye
one of half a dozen quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy
included. He’s working with the
Pats though this season. Mike Vrabel in town now as is that
guy. Stefon Diggs punches this
thing in for a touchdown in the second quarter for the Patriots
to extend their lead. And
there’s Cardi B. Stefon Diggs is significant other having
their child. Her recent album
called am I the drama are the Patriots. The drama in the AFC.
We will see God that was
dramatic. That guy’s drama right there. That is drama in
and out left handed. Drake
London toes this one in if you listen closely. Jason McCourty
had a perfectly evil maniacal
chuckle when this catch was rained in. It was perfect. And
then this was not this is Tony
Parker Romo, which would have tied the game. And Patriots
hold on to win this one 2423.
But unfortunately, it comes at the hand or the foot of a
mistake of the kicker for the
Falcons. However, it leaves the Patriots once again at seven
and two. Colts at the Patriots
have won six straight games. And Kyle, would you see would
you deem this as they’ve done
it quietly, or are you perfectly into what the
Patriots have built back up in
New England and the streak that they have been on? Yeah, I
think it’s quietly I think
that’s a good way to put it because the noise everyone’s
been so enamored with the Colts,
myself included. They’re the biggest story of the season.
And then you got your typical
Mahomes and Allen and they get some of the headlines. And then
Rodgers draws a lot of
attention too. I mean, we have to understand how well Drake
Way is Jake Drake may is
playing Drake. May is playing so well it’s not like, oh, he’s
doing pretty good for the
second year or, you know, he’s doing good compared to Caleb
and et al. All those other guys.
He’s doing well compared to anybody else in the league.
He’s doing well compared to
Allen Hertz. Herbert, anybody you want. It’s I feel like it’s
still kind of sleepy. I feel
like they’re really due for a big national game with a big
opponent. I don’t have the
Patriots schedule in front of me, but I have the record in
front of me. It says seven and
two guys and everything Mike Vrabel promised is happening.
It’s all like is he is Mike
Vrabel a top three coach in the NFL. Like this is a guy who had
Ryan Tannehill in the title
game. Now he has a second year quarterback at seven and two.
I’ve heard Pats fans this
morning. You know what they’re thinking. They’re like one seed
one seed. Never mind playoffs
never mind winning the East. We’ve already beaten Buffalo.
We want the bye which is
awesome. And it’s a credit to May. And it’s a credit by the
way. You know their defense got
beat up pretty pretty badly yesterday. Like Drake London
was unstoppable. And they still
won like a worst Patriots team. Let’s that one get away from
him I’m really impressed. And I
know the Colts are the biggest story of the year so far. They
got pounded yesterday. The
Patriots are in their rear view mirror as the story of the year.
And so is Vrabel as Coach of
the year. And May it’s just it’s they’re really good right
now. And yes Jamie it is quiet
but not for long Kyle ask and you shall receive. While the
matchups might be a little
sleepy Thursday Night Football Week 11 it’s Jets Patriots that
is a prime video treatment. If
that’s enough of a spotlight for you, can I also interest
you in two weeks later. Week 13
Monday Night Football at home against the New York Giants. So
that’s pretty good. And then we
get into flex territory where networks are actively
protecting their games. And
then NBC wants it reshot. Scheduling fighting is always
really fun. Late in the season.
Yeah. Tampa this week too. Hello seven and two versus six
and two. That’s the game of the
week. I know it’s maybe not national, but like Drake versus
Baker Drake or like this is
going to we can run with this thing. What do you think I love
it I love it. And that’s you
know that’s going to be a great game. Drake schedule the Drake.
The Drake who’s going to pull
that out. But you talk about wait hold on. It’s Drake or
Mayfield with an May feel. It’s
perfect. What the hell’s going on out here. You’re welcome
everybody. We got to put it. We
got to get a t shirt. We do. Yeah. We gotta get a t shirt
for that one. But you do. You
got Drake. You got Drake out there playing against the Bucs
in the schedule. The rest of
the schedule seems pretty promising, especially seven and
two leaving it leading their
division. Right. They got the Jets twice. Dolphins, Bengals.
So they could control the rest
of their schedule. And they’re doing this in the absence of
some injuries along the way in
the backfield. They’re down to now two running backs. But then
when you look at Drake man who
he’s throwing the ball to again he’s showing Keyshawn booty is
a playmaker one day. And then
the next day pop Douglas pops out the Liberty University
shout out to him four catches
for 100 yards and a touchdown. And then you also got Henry.
There’s so many guys that he’s
distributing the ball to. And also I haven’t even got to
Stefon Diggs who he is right.
And so I think they’re doing a really good job. Vrabel is
doing an amazing job on the
defensive side of the ball, construction them, keeping
everybody humble and poised. If
you look at what they’re doing, they’re constantly keeping
everybody focused on the prize.
Nobody’s getting too high or too low. Don’t read the
newspaper. Let’s stay inside of
the building. And I think the Patriots are getting back to
what the Patriots fans are used
to receiving. Sean, I’m going to echo everything you just
said. Why? Because so my my
favorite show on TV, one of my favorite shows is Iron Chef and
Iron Chef on that show, the
thing I love, it’s a competitive show, but there’s a
secret ingredient every new
week. Like when I look at Drake Maye, he got a secret
ingredient every single week,
whether it’s booty one week, whether it’s Stefon Diggs,
whether it’s Treveyon Henderson.
Guys, I looked at the at the stat sheet. Demario Douglas had
four receptions 100 Henry had
four receptions. Stefon Diggs three, Treveyon Henderson four.
That’s evenly distributing the
ball. However he likes to highlight one guy yesterday was
Demario Douglas to what Rashad
said. So that’s what makes somebody like like Drake Maye
so dangerous. Again when I when
I come into the office on Monday or Tuesday of a work
week leading into the Patriots,
I’m trying to figure out who does he like to go to, right?
Every team has a go to player,
but the Patriots Drake Maye doesn’t have one yet. He
continues to put up the numbers
that he’s been putting up and continues to be efficient and
scoring touchdowns. So that’s
what when I look at the Patriots offense, it’s so hard
to guard them because I don’t
know where you’re going to go one week. It’s one person, one
week the secret ingredient is
somebody else. And so that’s what I hope they continue to do
because it’s been working for
them so far. What do you think is. Still waiting for an
explanation of why we run that
every morning. But J.J. McCarthy is back. That’s fun.
He misses a lot of games with
injuries, but the Lions almost always beat the Vikings these
days. So let’s see how this one
goes Jared Goff on a fourth and four Campbell says go for it
man. He goes to Laporta who.
Laporta is trying to run to Center City. And they get him
in. Incredible touchdown. This
is going to be an annihilation for the Lions. We’re doing big
old high fives. But wait JJ to
JJ this is what we were promised Justin Justin
Jefferson has his first
touchdown since week one that opening night against the bears.
Remember that there’s Josh
McCown on the sideline now wait David Montgomery bobbles it but
gets it back. And boom bam ball
Harrison Smith savvy always around the ball Vikings take
over. They’re winning 17 to 14
in Detroit Montgomery furious with himself not a fumbler. And
then JJ how about this JJ is
going to show off the wheels slide get down. Know even at
the goal line he makes a little
juke. And JJ McCarthy is grinning and spinning the ball.
Rashard do you like it? I like
it man. You got a little sass a little sass just enough. Fourth
quarter up ten. The Minnesota
but Detroit so much firepower. Look at this play by Jameson
Williams got every time he
touches the ball absolutely electric. He’s going to extend
the feet looking bounce. How
about it. Lions close the gap trailing 27 to 24. But JJ with
under two to play on a third
and five. Jalen Nailor puts the nail in the coffin. And
Minnesota goes to Ford Field
and beats Detroit. Something they have not done for a few
years Aaron Jones is out there
JJ McCarthy’s out there. There’s JJ and Hutch Michigan
men Michigan men Michigan men.
They win the game 27 to 24. They really needed it. They get
to 500. The Lions fall to five
and three. And afterwards JJ McCarthy pretty emotional after
a win. This is cool. It was
awesome. Yeah. Just when you’re when you’re hurt and you know
being on IR last year and being
out for five weeks, it absolutely kills me not being
out there with those guys
because I love every single one of them. And you know, I know
they got my back and I got
theirs the rest of the way. We made too many critical errors,
man. Some of our discipline,
the penalties caught up to us. I mean, we had multiple
opportunities to set ourselves
up, to have a chance to win that game. And we we made none
of them, really. I got to clean
some stuff up. You just said, oh, man, I probably means
they’re going to go live this
week, guys. That’s that. That’s that tone. It’s like it’s going
to go live. You’re going to do
some bad tackle, mean give me some more. Let’s do it. When
you hear that lingo like yeah
right. Everything is live like go live, kick off live, punt
return like everything’s like
field goals. Live like when I hear those words from my head
coach, I’m like, oh, we ain’t
got no walkthroughs. It’s just like two a days all over again.
Training camp. That was an
incredible, perfect response. JJ McCarthy, just like Manti
wears his heart on his sleeve,
goes into a hostile environment in a return from injury, and
takes down the enemy in their
territory at Ford Field. Rashad, I’ll start with you. Since we
now understand what the Lions
practice situation is going to look like this week, what did
you take away from Vikings
Lions in Detroit? Well, first I just want to let you all know
that that inside live run on a
Wednesday is no joke folks. Yeah. Don’t you don’t want to
do that. But yeah they’re going
to have to go through it. We understand that one. But JJ you
know I spoke last week. I was
asked do I think he can take him to the playoffs. And I got
to bite my tongue just a little
bit because there’s something about him that maybe he just
got a little bit of an ick
factor to him. He went on the road two times already in his
three three start tenure so far
in the NFL, and he’s won on the road and won. He’s won against
the bears. Now he’s won against
his arch rival that’s dominated them in this series against the
Lions. So I have to sit back
and say, man, he’s putting the ball on a dime when he needs to.
Obviously there’s always some
stuff you need to clean up, but the nail in the coffin to
Nailor to end the game. He
didn’t look for his top receiver when the game was on
the line to end it. He looked
for the open guy. So he’s going through his progressions. He’s
running. He can get out of the
pocket. If he stays healthy. He might be able to surprise some
people with that roster that
they have over there with the Minnesota Vikings, especially
the way their defense is
playing. Yeah, I’m going to echo that same thing. J.J.
McCarthy played phenomenal. Yes.
He showed he showed some grit. And that’s what they needed for
the Minnesota Vikings. But I
got to give my flowers to Brian Flores and what he did with
Blake Cashman and Eric Wilson.
Like all I saw was two middle linebackers blitzing all day
long like they played. They
played extremely aggressive. And when I saw that, I saw how
it also impacted the game.
There are so many times where the Detroit Lions offensive
line, they were letting the
linemen through. Why? Because when Brian Flores kept dialing
up those interior rushing by
the linebackers, those o line didn’t know what to do. It’s
like, are the linebackers
coming? Are they dropping? And I thought that Brian Flores,
the whole game plan was like
we’re going to set things on our terms, okay. So if we have
somebody that is like Jahmyr
Gibbs, who is so excuse me, who is so dynamic out of the
backfield, the worst thing you
want to allow happen is him to run a route. And so what I saw
with this aggressive approach
by the Minnesota Vikings is it caused them to keep Jahmyr
Gibbs in. Now as a linebacker.
That’s what I want. Now you’re playing on my terms. Now I can
act like I’m blitzing you, but
I actually have you in man and get some pressure. So that’s
what I saw. And a whole bunch
of those plays by Eric Wilson and Blake Cashman was Brian
Flores said, hey, set the tempo,
set the terms on their side of the line of scrimmage and we’re
going to win this game. That’s
exactly what happened yesterday. KB yeah, I think this is one of
the surprises of the day. I
don’t think a lot of people had the Vikings going into Detroit
and winning like that, but I
just I just say good for JJ McCarthy. Honestly good for him.
The I think the goal yesterday
would have been at least from a fan perspective, just go in
there, play the entire game,
don’t get injured and play decent like just that’s I think
that’s all you could expect
right now. Don’t get hurt and play sort of well, not only
that, they won. They won. And
JJ McCarthy is so young I don’t follow him on whatever his
social media channels are.
Maybe I should, but I’m sure it’s someone from his
generation, at least over the
past month or so. You got to be on social media and see some of
the things that were being said
about you, because there were some really, really intense
things far beyond the normal
pecking at athletes. All this like he’s healthy and they’re
benching him. They should stick
with Carson Wentz over him. But this failure this like it’s
been pretty intense. And we’ve
talked about it here on this show I’m not saying I’m
innocent of it either. If you
see any of that the guy the fact that he’s played we’re not
even counting how many games
he’s played. We’re counting how many quarters JJ McCarthy has
been out there. He’s running,
he’s throwing. Not only did he get the plane down and play
decent and survive the game, he
got a touchdown to Jefferson for the first time in about two
months. He ran and he beat the
Lions. I feel like this guy’s been through it. Even in the
post game. He’s all disheveled.
He’s got this hat on, his hair’s all wet. He’s almost
crying. Like I really feel for
him. He’s been through a lot, a lot. And now he has to return
to the state of Michigan, play
against Hutchinson. There’s a lot of memories there. There’s
a lot of scar tissue there. He
didn’t play great. I’m not even sure he played that good. But
he played. He finished and he
won. And it’s like as a Vikings fan you’re like, all right, we
can work with this. We I think
we have a guy here because there was a lot of sky is
falling fear mongering going on
for the past two months. And I think at least for one day JJ
showed up and he’s like, I can
win and you can win with me. And I think that’s a cool story.
And whether you like it or not,
something we celebrate here on the show is when you are your
true authentic self. And for
those who may have done the same thing to JJ McCarthy at
the end of his Michigan tenure,
when he won a national championship with the with the
meditating and the sitting next
to the goalpost. He’s still doing it, guys. He’s still
people are still on him
yesterday about the Vikings. He arrives. He doesn’t even go to
the he drops his bag in the
locker room comes out and there he is. He’s not taking a
pregame snooze. He is doing the
meditating thing authentic to himself, wears his heart on his
shoulder. And that’s what you
saw in the press conference last night. Whatever he is
speaking to himself, it worked
in Detroit. All right. Those are your Vikings. They finally
get back to 500 within the NFC
North and the NFC. Moving on. Here’s another guy from the
2024 draft class. Drake Maye
one of half a dozen quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy
included. He’s working with the
Pats though this season. Mike Vrabel in town now as is that
guy. Stefon Diggs punches this
thing in for a touchdown in the second quarter for the Patriots
to extend their lead. And
there’s Cardi B. Stefon Diggs is significant other having
their child. Her recent album
called am I the drama are the Patriots. The drama in the AFC.
We will see God that was
dramatic. That guy’s drama right there. That is drama in
and out left handed. Drake
London toes this one in if you listen closely. Jason McCourty
had a perfectly evil maniacal
chuckle when this catch was rained in. It was perfect. And
then this was not this is Tony
Parker Romo, which would have tied the game. And Patriots
hold on to win this one 2423.
But unfortunately, it comes at the hand or the foot of a
mistake of the kicker for the
Falcons. However, it leaves the Patriots once again at seven
and two. Colts at the Patriots
have won six straight games. And Kyle, would you see would
you deem this as they’ve done
it quietly, or are you perfectly into what the
Patriots have built back up in
New England and the streak that they have been on? Yeah, I
think it’s quietly I think
that’s a good way to put it because the noise everyone’s
been so enamored with the Colts,
myself included. They’re the biggest story of the season.
And then you got your typical
Mahomes and Allen and they get some of the headlines. And then
Rodgers draws a lot of
attention too. I mean, we have to understand how well Drake
Way is Jake Drake may is
playing Drake. May is playing so well it’s not like, oh, he’s
doing pretty good for the
second year or, you know, he’s doing good compared to Caleb
and et al. All those other guys.
He’s doing well compared to anybody else in the league.
He’s doing well compared to
Allen Hertz. Herbert, anybody you want. It’s I feel like it’s
still kind of sleepy. I feel
like they’re really due for a big national game with a big
opponent. I don’t have the
Patriots schedule in front of me, but I have the record in
front of me. It says seven and
two guys and everything Mike Vrabel promised is happening.
It’s all like is he is Mike
Vrabel a top three coach in the NFL. Like this is a guy who had
Ryan Tannehill in the title
game. Now he has a second year quarterback at seven and two.
I’ve heard Pats fans this
morning. You know what they’re thinking. They’re like one seed
one seed. Never mind playoffs
never mind winning the East. We’ve already beaten Buffalo.
We want the bye which is
awesome. And it’s a credit to May. And it’s a credit by the
way. You know their defense got
beat up pretty pretty badly yesterday. Like Drake London
was unstoppable. And they still
won like a worst Patriots team. Let’s that one get away from
him I’m really impressed. And I
know the Colts are the biggest story of the year so far. They
got pounded yesterday. The
Patriots are in their rear view mirror as the story of the year.
And so is Vrabel as Coach of
the year. And May it’s just it’s they’re really good right
now. And yes Jamie it is quiet
but not for long Kyle ask and you shall receive. While the
matchups might be a little
sleepy Thursday Night Football Week 11 it’s Jets Patriots that
is a prime video treatment. If
that’s enough of a spotlight for you, can I also interest
you in two weeks later. Week 13
Monday Night Football at home against the New York Giants. So
that’s pretty good. And then we
get into flex territory where networks are actively
protecting their games. And
then NBC wants it reshot. Scheduling fighting is always
really fun. Late in the season.
Yeah. Tampa this week too. Hello seven and two versus six
and two. That’s the game of the
week. I know it’s maybe not national, but like Drake versus
Baker Drake or like this is
going to we can run with this thing. What do you think I love
it I love it. And that’s you
know that’s going to be a great game. Drake schedule the Drake.
The Drake who’s going to pull
that out. But you talk about wait hold on. It’s Drake or
