“That Was My First One” | Bo Byram After Game-Winning Shootout Goal | Buffalo Sabres

I think that’s my first one. Maybe one preseason game shot. Um, but I think that was my first one in a regular game. So, what was your plan coming in? I didn’t really have one. I was just going to see what happened. How shocked were you that when they said go? Uh, not shocked at all. Um, I don’t know. You always try to stay ready. You never know um exactly who’s going to be going, but um I didn’t think I was going to be that high up on the list, but uh no, it’s pretty pretty cool. Um, you know, just happy to get the two points. We’d been struggling to kind of finish out games and, you know, few losses in overtime in a row. So, uh, feels good. What’s your game plan when you when you’re doing it? When you’re going into that, do you have do you have a shot that you go to? Uh, not really used to shooting against a opposite handed goalie. Um, usually I come in the other way, but because he was a opposite catcher, I tried coming that way and I was just going to try to, um, you know, shoot one way or the other. Um, I felt like I had a little room there. So, talk about what you got from Lukan. He made five saves in the overtime and five more in the shootout. Just, you know, what you were able to get from him. Yeah, it was great. Um, I thought he played well all game. you know, we kind of had a tough start in front of him and uh but he uh he hang in there and ended up making some huge saves down the stretch like you said. So, um you know, super happy for him. Um you know, he’s kind of had a a little bit of tough go to start the year with injuries and stuff, everyone knows. So, it’s good to see him get some confidence and um you know, play the way we know he can. How did you guys just get settled down there after that start? The quick goal had to be huge for you to get it back to two to one, but in general, you guys seem to settle down after that. Yeah, for sure. Um, you know, I think we’re doing a better job of just controlling moments like that, maybe if if that makes sense. Um, you know, we’re trying not to let the emotions, you know, spiral out of control or anything. Just um, you know, they scored two goals early, but there’s still whatever there was 55 minutes left in the hockey game. So, um, and then, yeah, obviously the the big uh right after helps as well. And it’s not ideal to have to kill three penalties in the third period, but hey, you killed three penalties in the third period. It doesn’t give you a chance to go offensively, but you guys did a good job killing them. Yep. Um, you know, our PK’s been really, really solid all year. Um, the guys that are going out there, um, seem to be dialed in and on the same page and, um, you know, and at the end of the day on the penalty kill, your goalies got to make some big saves, which he did. So, um, yeah, it’s been the strength of our game and something we’ll continue to work on and improve. Alex Ovuchkin is still a goal number 899. What did your team do to keep him off the score sheet? Really make him a non-factor until late in the game. Um, you know, with some guys like that, there’s not really much you can do sometimes. Um, you know, he had a one time on the power play there that he hit um and a couple other shots and and whatnot, but um, you know, I think overall our team defense is going in the right direction and um, I think that just kind of reinforces that fact. Did you guys got I guess your fourth overtime in a row, which is kind of weird in the NHL, but with what happened in the other three, did you guys just say we got we got to win one here? Uh yeah, I think so. Um I mean, you’re always trying to win games, right? So whether it’s in overtime or regulation, but um yeah, like I said earlier, we had been on a bit of a skip of losing in the overtime there. So um was a big win for us.
