LA Dodgers didn’t care that the Milwaukee Brewers’ dominated .Did the Brewers Effort Bite Them?
While the Brewers were going 6-0 against the LA Dodgers this past summer, the Dodgers were just sitting back and laughing at everybody else in baseball. We’ll tell you why next. Coming up on the show, did it really matter the Brewers went unbeaten against the Dodgers this year? Few other teams did as well. Talk about that. Talk about that coming up. Christian Yelich, I know some of you want him traded. will tell you why he’s not going to get traded. Also, the Peralta rumors and some other players apparently are getting traded for the Milwaukee Brewers. If you listen to the pundits out there, the national guys, I’ll give you some important dates that are coming up for uh the Milwaukee Brewers as well. All right. Yeah, the Dodgers won the World Series like everybody predicted they were going to do early in the season. They were the odds on favorite to win even when they were going through their struggles during the summer. And I’ve seen a lot of Dodger baseball. Watched a lot of them play. Of course, all six games they played against the Brewers. And the Brewers swept them. But the Dodgers this whole time they were playing guys who you had never heard of before and had no business pitching in the postseason and didn’t. Yeah, we saw Ed Sheeran pitch a game or two. Um but for the most part, the Dodgers this summer, they were on cruise control. Meanwhile, teams like the Milwaukee Brewers were what we want, right? We want our teams to go out there and give 110% effort, and that’s what they did. They out hustled. They outthought. They played at a high baseball IQ, and it got them the 97 wins. Meanwhile, the Dodgers had guys on the injured list. They were going through the motions all summer, but they were built for October. That’s the new thing, right? Built for October. who’s built for October, who’s not. And the Dodgers have proven that, yeah, they’re built for October. Even when, including me, was doubting them this summer, watching them play, saying, “Man, look at the Milwaukee Brewers are so much better than these guys.” I mean, how are the how are the Dodgers favored to go into the World Series? They’re terrible. The Brewers taking going six and0 against them. Dodgers bullpen falling apart, you name it. All the issues. three MVPs at the top of their lineup. Yeah, I’ll take with the Milwaukee Brewers, the Isaac Collins of the worlds. And yeah, by the time we got to the NLCS, Isaac Collins wasn’t even part of the equation. And a few of the other guys were part of it, but didn’t actually show up like they did when they played the Dodgers in the regular season. So, the Brewers, the Houston Astros, Anaheim, the Angels twice swept the Brewers. And uh that’s it right there. Those teams, those teams had their way with the Dodgers during the regular season. You know what Mookie said? Mookie Bets said, “Every game against us teams are playing their World Series.” And you know what? He was right. in the regular season. Teams like the Brewers, the Astros, well, especially a team like the Brewers, that was their World Series, right? We’re still talking about them winning six games. I guarantee you that’s not even a blip in the Dodgers mind anymore. Now, we lost six games to the Brewers in the regular season. Once we got to the postseason, it was game on and the Dodgers are ready. So, do the Dodgers, do they have this thing figured out? Again, we want, right? And when the Brewers go half speed, which you really can’t do in baseball, but if you’re resting guys and and doing that uh and not playing your frontline guys, we complain about it, right? Or not hustle. But the Brewers went all out this year. I mean, that is that is the hardest working baseball team in Brewers history. I’ve seen them all. 82 Brewers, you name it. That is that was the hardest working team that were they just spent by October. Once they got to the bright lights, you saw many one for 15s and two for 15s and batting averages. There was a multiple batting averages like that. Meanwhile, the Dodgers didn’t exactly light it up offensively in the postseason. They got clutch hits and they got great pitching and just enough to get by. But the Dodgers look like a different team though than what we saw in the regular season. Much different. And of course they have the frontline arms. Brewers pitched well, right? Brewers still pitched well. Allowed 15 runs in the five games or in the four games against the Dodgers, right? You take that every time. Offensively though, the Brewers again, were they spent by the time, but then we complain when when they throw the Sunday lineup out there, the Brewers do, yet they still win with the Sunday lineup. The Brewers went out all out and won every game. I and I don’t know how you temper that because I don’t want to see it tempered. I enjoyed watching that. Mark Antonasio talks about the summer of entertainment. I was entertained all summer watching these guys going out knowing every time I was going to turn a TV set on I was going to see 150% out of all these guys all these guys getting the dirt the uniforms dirty sweating working hard out there right grinding to the final at bat right final at bat look at that 14game winning streak you look at times when they were down eight to one grinding making things interesting in some cases winning a game like Not the LA Dodgers or sometimes the Dodgers got down in the game and they were just like I’m done. Well, we’ll just play tomorrow. You can tell with these guys and I don’t know if I like that route. Of course I don’t like that route. I want my team to play hard all the time. But the Dodgers somehow were on cruise control the entire season and then they got to the postseason and all their big stars delivered. Brewers don’t have those big stars. They have a lot of guys who work hard. They do have some stars on this team. They have some keepers. They don’t have any Hall of Famers. At least what I see right now, right? I mean, well, there’s no Hall of Famers on this team as of what we see right now. We love Freelick and and Terang, but you know, they’re not first ballot Coopertown guys right now. Shuriel still’s got some stuff to prove. We agree and we he’s on the right track, but you know, we’re not there. I don’t know what the happy medium is. You know, the Dodgers, I mean, how could you look so bad in the regular season and here you are in the postseason down three games to two. Rally beat Toronto. rally and beat Toronto. But doesn’t make me feel any better. Doesn’t make me feel any good at all. Well, the somebody put on Twitter, “Well, the Brewers beat the Dodgers and went six and0 during the regular season, and that’s the team that won the World Series.” Well, they went 4-0 against the Brewers in the postseason, and that’s what really counts. The postseason is what really counts. Regular season doesn’t matter. Like the Gold Gloves came out Sunday. Uh, Terang was up for second base. Her beat him out this year. Right field. Freelick Tatiz beat him out. Brewers have no gold glovers. And certainly those guys deserve to be go glovers. But no Gold Glovers. Voters probably said, “Well, you know, we can’t have two Brewers win like we did last year.” I’m just kidding. But you you always wonder about that. No Brewers on the go. Best one of the best defensive teams in baseball. Brewers had no go Glovers. Weird, right? Weird. And one of the best baseball teams, defensive baseball teams in baseball. But again, the Gold Glover, Terraang winning a Gold Glove, Reik winning a Gold Glove isn’t going to make Manny feel any different about losing to the Dodgers in four games because ultimately that’s what it’s all about, right? We want to see Pat Murphy win manager of the year. We want to see GM of the year, MVPs, and all that, but I don’t really care. I used to think it was a big deal, but it’s not because you know what the ultimate is what the Dodgers were doing on Saturday night, winning the championship. Uh Christian Yelich, I’m going to talk briefly on Yelich here. 29 homers, 103 RBI’s, 16 stolen bases, 264 batting average. and key in the middle of that lineup. For years, the Brewers were failing because Yelich was not doing his job during the regular regular season. Was not doing his job in the regular season and they moved up at the top of the lineup. But in their heart of hearts, the Brewers wanted to keep Yelich in the middle of the lineup, but he was not producing. He finally did this year. He finally did. I still don’t get the fact that they moved him to the top of the order at the end of the season there in the postseason, but he put up nice regular season numbers. There’s no answer for why he’s p failing in postseason, right? If we knew, we would do something about it. Brewers would do something about it. He just can’t get it going in postseason. Just terrible. And the numbers are you look at them and you want to cry that your best player each and every year is failing in the postseason. Failing in the postseason and I know some of you guys want him rated now. He comes in at a good price for the Brewers at 23 million. That for the Brewers for a guy hitting 29 homers, 103 RBI’s betting 264, you’d you’d love to have that. Now, for what he did in the postseason, he was overpaid. But what he did in the regular season, it’s kind of a bargain in today’s baseball world, right? His qualifying offer for players is 22 million. He’s going to make 23 million next year. Although the contract is going to go for a long time, but he is like a polarizing athlete in the state because we we all the last four or five years were disappointed in Yelich. But he turned it around this year, right? tried to hit that grand slam, what was that, middle of June or so and helped get this thing going for the Milwaukee Brewers, that walk-off grand slam. And he continued, he was player of the week that week and he continued to just produce for these guys. And then he came to the postseason and he failed miserably. Not loud outs, soft tappers at the second base and striking out and looking just terrible at the plate. So, will they trade Yelich? They won’t trade Yelich. There’s a couple of guy uh guys in Brewers history who are Ananasio guys. And when I say that guys who Mark Anonasio would not trade, he wouldn’t trade Ryan Brawn. Okay, he would never have traded Ryan Brawn even though Braun let him down obviously for what we know. Remember, we’re not going to bring that up again. about what happened in 2011 and then um Yelich that is Antinasio’s guy and if Arnold went into his office and say you know what I’m going to trade Christian Yelich for Aaron Judge and the Yankees are going to eat up most of that contract. He would still say I want Yelli. I’m telling you would is not getting traded from this team. He’s one guy who they sign longterm. Just like Ananasio signed Brawn long term, Yelich and Ananasio are joined by the hip. Never happened. So again, anybody who thinks that Yellish is going to get traded, I would absolutely be stunned. Absolutely be stunned if the Brewers traded him. But there’s some other guys who were on the trade block according to the national guys. Yeah, they’re at it again. We’ll get to that coming up next. The Brewers got some work to do here in the offseason. A lot of big dates. We’re going to tell you about those coming up here in a little bit. But it’s a it’s a big offseason for the Milwaukee Brewers, right? They got to not only get better, but they got to stave off some other teams. And we’re going to be talking about it all winter long. And of course, you get our our show on YouTube. Go to Lockdown Brewers on YouTube, hit the subscribe button, hit the bell. that alerts you every time we drop an episode here on Locked on Brewers. Yeah, the Nashville guys are at it again. You remember last summer when the Brewers were like technically in the wild card race? This is before they surpassed the Cubs. U all these Nashville guys had the Brewers trading Freddy Peralta and we were like, “Hey, wait a second. Brewers are are pushing the Cubs here. Why would you want to trade Freddy Peralta?” And these Nashville guys, as we know, they like to dip into the Milwaukee Brewers and and find out, okay, we’ll take that guy. We’ll take that guy. That’s all we are is stepping stones according to those guys. But that’s not uh that’s not the way we want to have it. Uh if I saw one report today, oh the teams that would be interested in Yeah. Oh, San Francisco. San Francisco. He would fit perfectly in San Francisco. Freddy Peralta. Uh they won 81 games this last year. Freddy would be a perfect fit. Yep. Just trade our guys off just like you know we traded off her Burns and Williams. Want to trade off Peralta as well. Oh, and Contraras, he’s on the trading block. According to the national guys out there, uh the Brewers would be an absolute fool to trade Contrarus. Absolute fool. But according um to uh the National guys, he might be on the trade trading block. Oh, Philadelphia, they could need a catcher if they don’t have Riomo. Oh, Contraros would be a perfect fit. Again, using our guys like stratamatic baseball like trading like drafting and trading these guys. These national guys just absolutely kill me how they want to just because they just they have no respect. You know, it’s funny. I uh I was walking into Dodger Stadium for game four. I don’t think I talked about this on the podcast. And he had to go through security and there was a national guy and I’m not going to say who, right in front of me. And he was in such a good mood because he was like, “Yep, this is what I predicted. I picked the Dodgers are going to win this one in a sweep.” as he was walking through the door and I said to him, “Yep, you had that one right. You got it. Don’t want to give small Milwaukee a chance at all. I get it. I get it. You big market guys.” And he just looked at me and smiled. I wasn’t I didn’t smile back. I wasn’t happy about this comment, but he was like gloating that he thought the World Series and he was right that the playoff series was over and the Dodgers were going to the World Series. I just didn’t want to hear these n a national guy, you know, gloating about that. that he knew that that was going to be his final night in Los Angeles watching the Dodgers and Brewers series and the Brewers are just and again that’s the way these national guys think. We’re just this cute little story with the pancake potatoes the the potato pancakes or whatever it is the pocket pancakes in the back pocket. We eat our broughtwur go to our games but then when push comes to shove now get out of the way Milwaukee let the big boys through. I hate that mentality. All right. So, Contrarus, it’d be they’d be dumb to trade him. Um, couple of notes here. Important dates that are coming up. I want to throw these out at you because these are important. There’s a possibility the Brewers could be paying uh a big sum of money to Brandon Woodruff. If Brandon Woodruff takes the buyout for the Milwaukee Brewers 10 million and then they give him a qualifying offer of 22 million and he takes that banking the Brewers would of gave you like they gave Adamus the qualifying offer last year and of course he took it. Brewers get a draft pick in return. Same thing here. If they give Woodruff the qualifying offer, assuming they feel like he’s not going to take it, he’s going to get a long-term deal out there. Well, then the Brewers, if he doesn’t take it, they, you know, get a draft pick. If he does take it, then you’re um you’re stuck on 32 million. So, I kind of feel like Woodruff is looking for a long-term deal out there, but that would be kind of odd having to pay him the $10 million already and then another 22, which is the the amount for a qualifying offer these days. But we’re going to talk about some of the important dates coming up here for uh for the Milwaukee Brewers. We’ll get to that coming up next. Chuck Freeman here on Locked On Brewers. All right, these important dates that are coming up, uh, free agency, five days after the World Series, players become free agents, which will be Thursday. Trade freeze is lifted. Uh, and players are allowed to be traded. Um, free agency actually began began on Sunday for eligible players, but they’re not permitted to sign with other teams for at least five days. Um, free agents no longer count against the previous team’s 40man roster. So, trades of players who were on the 40man roster reopen for the first time since the trading deadline this summer. So, coming up on the 6th, which would be Thursday, free agents are eligible to sign with any other team in baseball. Teams with contractual options or optout clauses must make the decisions by Thursday night. teams have until four o’clock on Thursday to decide whether they issue qualifying offers to free agents and one of those obviously is Woodruff third by Thursday would he get a qualifying offer? So that’s a big deal. General manager meetings are coming up a little bit later on in the month and coming up the Friday before Thanksgiving is the deadline for um players accepting players uh accepting a qualifying offer. So, let’s say Woodruff gets a qualifying offer. Well, he’s got until November 18th. If they accept, they’re back in the one-year deal for 22 million. Um, and then those who decline the qualifying offer, like Adamus did last year, are are tied to compensation draft picks. So, you know, they they’d figure that out a little bit later on, but that’s all coming up. Also, uh the rule five protection deadline is coming up on November 18th, but the trade freeze is going to be lifted and you know the Brewers can make trades. Um the free agency uh again Thursday you could sign with other teams. God, it used to be you couldn’t you had to wait like the December before free agent. There was like a free agent draft. You had to draft the guy before you could even sign him. They got rid of all that long time ago. Obviously um the options on contracts Contrarus, Woodruff, Peralta, Hoskins, Jansen, Cantana decisions on all those contract options will have to be made and to see what the brewers will be doing here. So that’s uh that’s that’s some pretty well some of those decisions are tough ones. Some of them are really easy like Contraras And uh and Freddy Peralta, Freddy Peralta is like the easiest one ever, right? The player and Freddy Peralta when he was 23, I want to say, they got him five years at 15 million. Freddy Peralta, you talk about a bargain in baseball. Freddy Peralta, five years, $15 million, and he’s at the final year of it at $18 million. But in free agency here and these these these player options, uh, you know, I talked about this last week on the show. Uh, I don’t see them going after doing this with Canana, Jansen, Hoskins, or Woodruff, Contrarus, and Peralta for sure. Just odd that Contrarus has even got a contract option in there because the Brewers will for sure pick up what, $12 million on that. Absolutely. But they got to sign him to a long-term contract. I know Contrarus did not want to talk about it during the summer, but that’s something the Brewers have got to try to get into this year. And as far as Peralta, last time the media talked to Matt Arnold, he said he was asked about Peralta. What are you going to do with Peralta? You know, and of course he’s not going to say, well, I’m going to come out and trade him. He goes, “It’s not been I haven’t even really thought about it yet because he’s got Peralta for another year at the very least.” All right. And I do think he’s going to get traded here in the offseason. That’s just what the Brewers do. They will trade him. But as far as trading Contraras, no. Even though he’s got a couple of years left, I saw where if the Brewers got bowled over, they might make a move. I would God, I don’t know. I just don’t want to do it. That’s a guy I want here long long term. All right, everybody. That’s going to do it for Lockdown Brewers today. Thanks for joining us. Um we’ll be back tomorrow. Um and of course any news always breaks. We’ll have it first. That’s why you need to subscribe, especially on YouTube where we drop these instant reaction videos on YouTube so you can catch up with anything going on with the Brewers baseball. They make a trade, sign a free agent or what? Sign a free agent. Well, you can pretty much guarantee I won’t be dropping anything there because the Brewers never signed a free agent. They did a couple years ago with Reese Hoskins. I’m still stunned by that. But yeah, but if the Brewers surprise us and they do something here like that in the offseason, subscribe to YouTube and get you’ll get all those news alerts in video form as they happen right here on Lockdown Brewers. That’s going to do it for me everybody. Chuck Freeman, Lockdown Brewers, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network. We are your team every day.
Milwaukee Brewers dominated the LA Dodgers 6-0 in the regular season, yet the Dodgers hoisted the World Series trophy. What does this reveal about the cost of maximum effort?
Chuck Freimund examines the stark contrast between the Dodgers’ “cruise control” approach and the Brewers’ relentless grind that produced 97 wins but left them depleted by October. The discussion covers Christian Yelich’s polarizing status as Mark Attanasio’s untouchable player despite postseason struggles, pushback against national media speculation about trading Freddy Peralta and William Contreras, and Brandon Woodruff’s complex $32 million contract dilemma.
Freimund outlines critical off-season deadlines, including Thursday’s qualifying offer decisions and November 18’s acceptance deadline, while addressing contract situations for Peralta, Contreras, Rhys Hoskins, Danny Jansen, and Jose Quintana.
Discover why the Brewers’ hardest-working team in franchise history might need to rethink their approach to reach October success.

Dodgers bench players salary is greater then most MLB teams total payroll!
They pay one player what our entire pitching staff makes
