The Miami Heat Have A Kel’el Ware Problem.
[Music] The Miami Heat may have a Khal Wear issue because he has looked bad to begin the season. And the part that is the most concerning in my opinion is the lack of playing time that Wear has ultimately got this season. And if you look at last night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, you would have seen Kaware sitting the bench most of that game. I am Nick Roloff. This is the Heat Report by Chat Sports. I mean, you look just last evening, he played 12 minutes in that game against the Lakers. And these are his stats. Like, I don’t even care about what he did when he was on the floor. It was the fact that he was only playing in 12 of the possible 48 minutes. I mean, in the second quarter, coach Eric Spolstrom went with small ball five Nicoola Yovic instead of where when they gave Bam a rest. And it’s very obvious that Eric Spolstro just doesn’t trust him. We talked about this in the offseason in the training camp in preeason that when you watch Kel Wear, when you watch Eric Spolster talk about Kel Wear, there is a clear disconnect between player and head coach. And I know Khal Wear has built up quite a fan base inside the Miami Heat fan base. A lot of people like this kid and I understand why because when you look at him play and when he’s at his best, the potential in ceiling is just so damn high. But the issue is he doesn’t give the effort required. He doesn’t do the little things correctly, specifically on defensive rotations and effort on the glass, which drives me nuts, which drives Eric Spolster nuts. And it’s why he’s not getting a lot of playing time. And it’s why that I’ve raised these concerns so frequently over the last 6 months. And you guys call me haters for it. But join the family. We’re 25 subscribers away from 25.4K. Hit that sub button for daily heat content. Next live watch party is going to be Wednesday evening, by the way, against the Denver Nuggets. Eric Spolster has continuously mentioned contributing to winning as a thing that needs to be improved upon for Hello Wear. Well, I know that plus minus isn’t really the full story here, but if you do look at this plus minus this season, KL Wear has had the second worst on the Miami Heat through the first six games of the season. He’s a minus 28. The only player, ironically, worse than him is starting wing Andrew Wiggins. He has a plus or excuse me minus 32. So it hasn’t been good minutes for wear when he’s been on the floor. And Eric Bolstra talked about not playing wear a ton against the Lakers on Sunday night. After the game he said, “Yeah, we’re just trying to get a handle on it. It’s very nuanced when you have two dynamic pick and roll players like they had.” Referring to Luca Donic and Austin Reeves, he didn’t like to have wear out there. Thought he bounced back in the third quarter and gave some quality minutes. And he mentioned the pick and roll that was giving KL Wear so many issues defensively. I mean, you look at what Jackson Hayes did last night. He was absolutely cooking. He had 15 points. He finished the game seven to seventh from the field and the Heat defense was horrific early in that game. I mean, the first quarter score was 43- 36. So, good job Miami for being able to score points and put up another good offensive quarter there and they finished with 120 for the game, but giving up 130 in the game and 43 in the first 12 minutes, that’s unacceptable. And a lot of that had to do with Kell Wear’s issues defending the pick and roll, which goes back to his defensive positioning, his rotations, and how he has struggled with that so mightily over his first two years in the NBA. and we were hoping that he was going to take a real nice step forward for Miami this year and we were counting on him to do that if we were going to be a team that was dangerous in the Eastern Conference. Well, he really has not taken a step forward at all. If anything, he’s been moving laterally to last season or even maybe a step down because he’s only averaging about nine points and seven boards a game so far in the 19.6 minutes. But for him to not even qualify for 20 minutes points per game, and I know you could round up and say he’s playing 20 a night, but the point remains like him not getting 20 minutes is kind of insane to me. Like that just shows how far away the coaching staff believes he is from contributing to wins for this ball club. I gotta be honest. And I’m sorry folks, I just got an unbelievable text, but pin comment. I lost my train of thought. Are you concerned about collab wear? Type Y for yes or type N for no. That is the main conversation today. Pin comment. Let me know your thoughts. But as we regain control of the show here, I am concerned about KL Wear. As you cannot tell, and I’ve really been showing my concern all off season long. Like think about what I’ve been trying to say. You watch KL Wear in summer league and it didn’t look good. He should have been dominating these non-NBA level players. Yet, he looked like an average player out there. And Eric Spolster had to fly all the way to Las Vegas to go give him some tough love and encourage him to start playing the right way. And the fact that we’re playing NBA regular season basketball and he’s unable to consistently give you effort and impact, it makes me believe that this is kind of who he is. He just doesn’t have a good motor and that was the biggest concern for him coming out of college when he started at Oregon and then transferred to Indiana. But maybe it’s just a bad fit as well for KL Wear because when you think about it, he has not been that good this year whatsoever and he hasn’t been able to run the floor and really dominate. Like last season, although Jimmy Butler had only played in about half the games, not even the tempo Miami played at was much more of a fit for KL Wear considering it was slow moving. He’s able to set his feet, be locked in defensively, run the pick and roll, which Miami did a ton as the roll man. This year they’re not running a lot of pick and rolls. They’re getting up and down. And if Wear is not able to roll to the rim after setting a screen, well, he might not generate him or not have any generated looks for him. You know what I mean? So, offensively, it might be a bad fit for him to play in this uptempo scheme. But, I did expect Nicola Yovic to have a big year in an uptempo scheme like this. That hasn’t been the case. Him and Nicole Yoic have been incredibly disappointing. And we’re going to shift some of the conversation to Nikico Yoic here in a second. But we are brought to you by Prize Picks. And as the weather changes, the season continues to heat up. And with the weather changing, well, you know what never gets old? Being right where you can get $50 instantly. And then lineups when you play your first $5. Just pick more or less in at least two player stats. And if you get your picks right, you could cash in. They offer stacks, meaning you can pick the same player up to three times in the same lineup. Whether it is bam at a bio more on fantasy score, steals and blocks, points, you can do that all in one lineup. I got an entry for a little Monday night football action. More than Dak Prescott passing yards, less than George Pickkins receiving yards, and then more than Trey McBride touchdowns. That’s by three or player entry. Download the Prize Pix app today. Use code C LNS to get $50 in lineups when you play your first $5 lineup. That’s code C LNS to get $50 in lineups when you play your first $5 lineup prize picks. It’s good to be right. Nico Yoic through six games has been very very disappointing. He just has like let’s call it space babe. I’ve been a be big Yoic supporter and I’m a big fan of his but if he’s going to struggle like this I’m going to have to call him out just like I’m doing with KL Wear. You just got paid four years, $62.5 million. That’s just about 15 per season. A little bit more. If you’re going to be paid that type of money, you need to have a better impact than what he has given you this year. And I still think it’s early in the season and things can change, but him not shooting efficiently from the field, him not really impacting winning and really crashing the glass, like it just feels more of the same for Nico Yoic. And that’s not an issue. Like it’s not a bad basketball player, but it’s certainly not someone you hand out a fouryear $62.5 million extension to. It’s not been an ideal start to the year for your two young guys, Nicole Yovic and KL Wear. And you were banking on these two both taking a step forward this season to really help you improve from a year ago to this season. And this isn’t just something that is, oh, they struggled against the Lakers. No, they struggled against the Spurs, too. and KL wear specifically held scoreless in that game against San Antonio. It wasn’t a good game for Nico Yovic either. Like I’ll say this, the Miami Heat have two more games left on this road trip before they return home. This road trip ends tonight and Wednesday in LA against the Clippers tonight and against the Spurs on or excuse me the Nuggets on Wednesday night. This is a big spot for the young duo wear and Yoic. They need a bounceback win. They need a bounceback performance because if you go into Denver three and four, losers of three straight and 0 and three on the road trip, you’re playing a team in the Nuggets who is a top three team in the NBA in a place that you haven’t won in the regular season since like 2017 2018. You need to get a win tonight. You just absolutely need to. And we talk about bouncing back. You got to give credit to Hi Mayh Hakez Jr. like this thirdyear forward has been phenomenal and he was dominant off the bench once again for Miami against the Lakers on Sunday night having 31 points on 11 to 16 shooting. But the reason why I wanted to bring up this game from Himeme Hawkins Jr. is because he bounced back. He struggled against the Spurs, worst game of the season by a massive stretch, but comes back on Sunday evening and did everything in his power to try to deliver the Miami Heat a big win on the road. So, I need these type of performances tonight from KL Wear and Nikico Yoic. Like, if Khal Wear doesn’t come back and play his best game of the season against the Clippers tonight, I am very concerned about the long-term like status of KL Wear in Miami. And it’s why I believe that the Heat may have a wear problem. This is a big game for Kell tonight, but it’s a big twoame stretch for the Heat. Yeah, no Tyler Hero and they’ve been without Norman Powell, but you’ve had opportunities to win a couple of these games. Like it was a four-point game in Los Angeles on Sunday night and you had an opportunity to come back against the Spurs as well last Thursday. Like the Heat need to return back to Miami 4 and four to split these next two games. Yeah, it’s a one and three road trip, but you’re 500 and then you return to play the Hornets and Blazers at home and then the Cavs at home, too. Like, you need to get at least a split here to round out this road trip. We’ll be live on Wednesday for Heat Nuggets, and we’ll have a video out tomorrow to react to whatever happens against the Clippers on Monday evening. So, subscribe and join the Heat Report family today. [Music]
The Miami Heat lost to the Los Angeles Lakers, 130-120, on Sunday night as Miami lost its second game in a row to have the Heat record fall to 3-3. The main takeaway is how little coach Erik Spoelstra played Kel’el Ware. Visit https://prizepicks.onelink.me/LME0/CLNS and use code CLNS and get $50 in lineups when you play your first $5 lineup! Ware has been in the Miami Heat starting lineup for the last 5 games but hasn’t been averaging 20 minutes a night, and only played 12 minutes in the Lakers Heat game. Spoelstra is always talking about Kel’el Ware needing to give more effort, and contribute to winning more often. Heat Report host Nic Rohloff talks about Ware’s struggles to begin this season and why the Heat may have a Kel’el Ware issue on their hands going forward. Honestly I do agree Kelel does not put enough effort and is not using his 7 feet of height. I hope bam can drill into him how to improge
Ware not producing no points 🤦🏽♂️
I think it’s a little early to be too worried about Ware. I need and hope Bam can help him develop and get the motor going for Ware.
No, in 12 minutes he more productive then Jovic. Jovic isn't a good as we thought, they kept going after him because the lack of defense
Niko an ware trade them
In the 4th QTR when Niko and Ware playing together, they brought heat back within 4 points. Then Spo brought Bam and Wiggins in and Heat when back trailing 12 points
what's depressing is I was screaming to trade Kelel for Kevin Durant straight up. We probably could've got that done and been undefeated right now
The game was funny because Hayes was killing everybody lmao
Dallas Cowboys my team.
Hassan Whiteside production.
He is too soft,no energy.Tbh he should be a beast for his size.
It doesn't help when Spoelstra has Niko spotting up in the corner all game or have him playing center. He still isnt playing him right, again.
Jovic got paid and is looking bad also. His defense is horrible
Bra he’s young we don’t care if he fucks up. Play this man
We’ve seen both of them play much better. No reason to panic. They’re super young bigs. There’s definitely things they need to improve on in an immediate sense, but you won’t know who either of these guys are until they put on more size…and that could be something dominant.
I expect Jovic to return to form soon, Ware could take the whole year, but it’ll be worth not giving up on him.
AlonzonMourning needs to put his sweatpants on, get down on that practice floor, and do something with that guy. He's so slow to learn it tells me they're not talking to him right, and he's just trying to figure things out on his own. Huddle talk isn't working with him. He needs a tutor 1 on 1
No. Not worried about Ware. Please remember this…..Spo doesn't play his young centers like that. Even in year 2 Bam wasn't getting any PT. It's simple growing pains. It's not about his motor or his fit. He has been good this year, he just showed us in preseason, that's still this year my man. Stop hyping it up. I know you have a job to do but all will be good soon. He is still young. And Miami isn't known to run rookie centers. Spo will find a way to get him more involved but it's gonna be up to Ware how fast that process takes.
Miami always waste money. You and others have said Niko should get that. You have said it. I never seen him as a player to have a starting spot. Not yet. He still needs a lot of work. But Miami always does this unwise stuff with the money. I just don't know who is in charge of these finances. Stop wasting money Miami. Let that man work for his pay. Stop being so soft
N……
I am concerned with Niko….
Ware is better with Powell
Ware could be a great player, and I know he is frustrated because this style of play doesn't fit him. But if he wants to play in Miami, he needs to understand that he'll get his minutes when we need to cranck up def or reb. Offensively, he's not gonna get a ton, but if he can properly rotate, he'll still get some points in the paint, the occasional screen and roll, lobs. Sure, it might not be flashy, but Bam has been terrific in that regard. If he can just focus, train hard and gel with this new system, he'll be alright. Let us just hope he's humble enough to figure that out in time.
Spo trying to make another scapegoat since Rozier gone, either coach him up or trade him at this point
Y
Y he’s cheeks
Waive Ware, bum. bust.
Nah Wiggins needs to go
This year & every year..spo continues to f things up…clearly dictator riley is cool with the soft direction and miss appropriation of funds..the heat has overpaid for players with resign them …and no direction team …this is sad
You are wrong just like Erick Spoelstra is a. HATER know one want to play when Spoelstra he keep taken Kel El WARE out only 12 minutes is garbage time, give Kel El 35 minutes and a few plays he will dominate No concern only concern is Erick players hater Spoelstra cant coach overated
That what Erick Spoelstra want you all to think that kel El WARE doesn't know what going on you both are dead wrong Nic Rolloff
Meanwhile, they have Bam shooting 3's, which we already know how that is going to turn out.
No
This is lame. The problem is Spo. Spo do not like playing big men. All you have to do is think about his teams as a coach. Spo is lame. He loves play small ball. This is his excuse to play small. That's why they will keep losing. If he keep playing these lineups
Ware + Bam = Mid
Niko + Bam = Mid
Ware + Niko = special
Let Ware & Niko come off the bench together, develop their chemistry & 2 man game & set the stage for the future
NIKO JOVIC IS TRASH…..
Kel’el Ware has no defense or sense of urgency!
its like they paid jovic for his play in eurobasket
