Howdy all! I’m originally from Dallas Fort Worth and have always been a Stars fan. I still love them and follow them closely, but moved my family to the Dayton area about 7 years ago now. I haven’t been able to get into any Ohio based teams up to this point but finally took the wife and kids to a Jackets game this last weekend and we are absolutely in love. We had a great experience in the arena and with everybody we came across and are even in the process of getting more tickets to games later this season, as well as looking into partial season tickets for next season. I absolutely had a man child moment and geeked out over getting to see the cannon and get my photo with it and a very friendly member of the cannon crew. It was an absolute blast to put it mildly!

That said, I have only ever developed sports team affinity with my hometown teams starting in childhood so deciding to support a new team as an adult with minimal knowledge or direct experience is daunting. I wondered what you all who’ve been around since the beginning or for a long time can share with me to help me assimilate into the fandom. When I follow a team I go hard and want to become a legit fan and not just an outsider bandwagon type. I can and have read the obvious history of the team, I was crushed when the news broke about Johnny Hockey just as a fan of the player, but I wanna know more about the fanbase, the quirks, the traditions, who do we HATE and who do we love, just all around what it is like being part of the fam so to speak. Whatever you want to share or even just to engage in some banter and chat would be awesome. I met several folks on Saturday night and hope to have some more great conversations here too.

  1. Well there’s a former mascot who is a cannon that looks like a weiner that we’re all pretty fond of, and we don’t like Jeff Carter. Probably a good baseline to get rolling with.
