Kansas City Chiefs Get GOOD & BAD News Following Week 9 Loss To Buffalo Bills
Chiefs Kingdom, we have got some huge news to discuss today. Some good news and some bad news around Kansas City. A player has finally returned to the Kansas City Chiefs. We’re going to break down what his return means. And then a trade occurred this morning around the NFL that I think is bad news for Kansas City. Let’s get into all of it right now. [Music] So, like I said off the top today, Chiefs fans, we’ve got some breaking news to discuss. Welcome into the Chiefs Report by Chad Sports. My name is Jackson Durham, and we always appreciate you spending your time with us. Let’s get into what’s on today’s show agenda. So, our two pieces of breaking news, the first one, news around Jawan Taylor’s injury and news around the return of Josh Simmons. We’re going to get into both of those in just a second. And then we’ve also got trade news to discuss. A trade happened this morning has a major effect on what Kansas City might do at the deadline. So, we’re going to break that down. And lastly, we had a game yesterday. We’re going to react to week nine. The week nine loss to the Buffalo Bills, try to wash that out and move on to week 10, our by-week coming up. And we’ve got a video coming up down the line on big changes that I think we’re going to make in the by-week as well. So, make sure you guys hit that subscribe button. But let’s get into the news around Josh Simmons. He’s finally back, guys. We’ve talked about it over and over again. Josh hasn’t played since week six against the Detroit Lions. He’s been out for a long time. It’s been almost a month at this point since we’ve seen Josh Simmons on the field. But it was confirmed today by Matt Derek and a number of other Kansas City Chiefs beat reporters that he was back at the facility for the first time. He’s been away in California dealing with that personal issue. Flew out the night of the game against the Detroit Lions and he hasn’t been back, but today he was back. Obviously, no practice for Kansas City today, so nothing for him to participate in, but the expectation is that he’s right back into the swing of things as a full participant. Maybe a little bit of a ramp up there, but I expect him to play. He’s got an entire bye-week to get ready and then the full week of practice next week before our week 11 matchup. I expect him to be on the field in that one. And I am excited about this. You guys should be excited about this. Let’s get down in the comments right now and spam JS to welcome back our left tackle, Josh Simmons. Because guys, we’ve needed this. We’ve needed it for a while, but the timing right now could not be any freaking better. Let me tell you, we and I know you guys know, at least if you watch the week nine game, unfortunate loss to Buffalo, you know, our offensive line is one of the biggest weak points on this roster when it comes to depth. We need Josh Simmons back more than ever because the injuries are starting to pile up. Trey Smith is dealing with back spasms. He clearly wasn’t 100% last week. Gave up four pressures to Buffalo. Jawan Taylor left with an right ankle injury during this game. We still don’t have full details on what that injury looks like at that or at this point. We’re going to get into that in just a little bit. And then his replacement, Josh’s replacement at left tackle, Jaylen Moore, ended up exiting the game as well yesterday. So huge that we get Josh back at this point. huge that he returns to the lineup in my opinion because this offensive line really struggled last week and when Josh was on the field early this season in just a couple of games he was fantastic guys. I think he can be a glue guy for this offensive line. I think he can be that kind of player going forward for us but we needed to get him back. He needed to get back in the lineup especially because like I said the injuries are piling up. Shawan Taylor exited in the fourth quarter with the ankle injury. Huge, huge deal, guys. Did not return to the game. And after the game, Andy Reid in his press conference, we had a number of injuries coming out of this one, or at least it seemed like we had a number of injuries. Travis Kelce left briefly. He exited the concussion protocol and returned to the game. Kingsley left as well in the fourth quarter shortly after Jawan Taylor left. But the only injury that Andy Reid said was of note is this one to Jawan Taylor. So this is what we’re going to kind of laser focus in on right now. He says, “All right, the only injury coming out of it was Jawan Taylor who hurt his right ankle.” And I wish I had more for you guys on this situation at this point, but that’s pretty much where we are. We have not received any more updates from Andy Reid on what Taylor’s status is going to be. My guess at this point, and again, this is my guess is that we haven’t gotten results back from his MRI. And when you don’t have results back from the MRI, you just don’t know. But looking at this offensive line departure with Kingsley potentially dealing with an injury, we know Trey Smith isn’t at 100%. And now Jawan Taylor is questionable. And obviously Josh hasn’t played in weeks. Guys, the buy could not have come at a better time. This is perfect timing for our bye-week. We need this badly upfront. It was very clear and we’re going to get into my week nine reactions in just a minute and I also have my instant reactions last night and something that I hit on over and over again. The theme of yesterday’s game was a failure to win the line of scrimmage. Our guys up front need to get healthy. We need them back at 100% for the stretch towards the end of the season and this buy is going to allow them to do that. This buy is going to be critical. And you know what else is critical, guys? The trade deadline is tomorrow. Trade deadline is coming up tomorrow. It’s in less than 24 hours at the time of posting and you guys need to subscribe to the channel because if Kansas City makes a move, you’re going to hear about it here first. We’re going to cover that for you on the channel right away. We’ll have that video posted up for you as soon as the move is made, as soon as that news breaks. So, do not miss out on any Kansas City Chiefs trade moves. Even if they don’t make a trade at the deadline, we’re still going to break down the other trades that got made and how they end up affecting Kansas City. So, make sure you subscribe, join our real ones here at the Chiefs Kingdom, and stay up to date on all the Chiefs news and rumors you need because, as we’re going to get into, an enormous trade happened this morning. Jaylen Phillips, someone who we’ve talked about over and over again on this channel as a potential trade target for Kansas City. He has been moved. He’s been taken off the market. Third round pick given up by the Philadelphia Eagles. They’ll send that over to Miami and get Jaylen Phillips straight up. An upgraded edge. And I’m not going to lie, guys, seeing this trade, I kind of feel like we got sharkked here. I kind of feel like Howie Roseman beat us to the punch because if this was the price tag, I would have been fine with doing that. I would have been fine with giving up a third round pick to upgrade edge, especially after watching our pass rush against Buffalo. Pass rush was terrible. It absolutely stunk. We could have made this move, and I would almost argue that we should have made this move. It would have been a good trade. I think even if it had become a one-year rental, I thought the cost here was going to be a second round pick. I genuinely believe that this would have cost significantly more capital. I know in the past I’ve expressed that trading for Jaylen Phillips would be too expensive of a rental, but if we could have gotten him for a third round pick and with the way our defensive line has developed over the last few weeks, this is a trade that I wish we could have made that I wish we could have had back. I I don’t know if Beachch made calls. I don’t know if Beachch was hitting the lines in Miami. I know we’ve heard from Diana Rousini that the Chiefs are calling around for defensive line help. I’m assuming that included two calls to the Miami Dolphins who are shopping two different edge rushers. But this group has got to get upgraded, guys. It really, really, truly does. And that is one of my biggest hot takes. We’re going to get into my hot takes and reactions coming out of week nine, but I want to hear from you guys. What are your biggest hot takes coming out of week nine? Before we get into mine, I’ve got three big ones for you. We’re going to go through my three reactions. Describe whether or not they’re overreactions or exactly as I’m feeling. But I want to hear from you guys. Let me know in the comments what is your biggest hot take about the Kansas City Chiefs coming out of week nine. Show me you know ball. And another way to show you know ball is playing on prize picks, guys. This episode is brought to you by prize picks. The hard-hitting football action is even better with prize picks. And here’s a little on the-go feed tab for you guys. Right in this video, I’ve got my lineup built for tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup. I’m taking the more on Dak Prescott’s passing yards. We’re going with the less on George Pickins receiving yards, though. I think Dak’s going to spread the ball around today. And lastly, we are taking the more on Trey McBride’s touchdowns. McBride’s a beast. Think he gets into the end zone on Monday Night Football. You could tell me, you could fade me. We always appreciate them supporting the channel. Let’s get into my week nine reactions. Reactions I’m seeing across the kingdom. Things that I was feeling immediately after. We’re going to describe whether or not they’re overreactions or exactly right. And this first one, this occurred to me over and over again. I’ve seen it all over the Chiefs kingdom on Twitter. We need to make a move right freaking now. And this is not an overreaction, guys. Absolutely it is not. And that move needs to be along the defensive line in my opinion. I would love to upgrade at running back. I’m not sure we can afford to make two moves. If you’re stuck with just one, I think defensive line is the one to go with. And I know I’ve kind of wafted back and forth on this. I know you guys are probably like, Jackson, pick a side here because you’ve told us running back is the right move. You’ve told this defensive line is the right move. But I thought Mike Panell was going to make a big impact. I’m not going to lie. Maybe I drank the Kool-Aid on that one a little bit too much, guys. I liked that sign. I liked the move to go out and get him. It didn’t help. It absolutely didn’t help. I You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see it. We got dominated on the line of scrimmage yesterday by Buffalo, both in the run game and in the pass game. We could not get after Josh Allen. We need to make a move here along the defensive line. And the numbers prove it. Let’s see how we’ve competed against the NFL’s best this season. Against teams above 500, we are one and four. That’s not good, gang. All of these are one-sore games except for the Lions win, but we are one and four against teams that we’re likely to see in the postseason. That is not good. That should worry you at this point when you cannot win games consistently against the type of teams that you’re going to face in the postseason. You need to make an upgrade along the roster. And well, first you need to figure out where you need to upgrade along the roster because we’re losing these games. But why are we losing these games? Let’s talk about the quarterback play from all of these teams. See how they’ve done really, really freaking well, guys. Super well. Complete about 76% of their passes against us. They are throwing for 230 yards per game, and they have seven touchdowns to just one interception in these five matchups. That’s terrible. Our defense is getting ripped to shreds. And I’ve hit on this over and over again, but I really don’t think that the secondary is the issue here. And I think anybody who watches Chiefs football can agree that pressure this season has just been non-existent. It is a fairy tale. The Chiefs ability to get pressure. It does not exist in real life. Once again, we allowed 3 seconds to throw on average. Once again, we failed to get pressure on north of 30% of Josh Allen’s dropbacks. 26% pressure rate, guys. Disgusts me to say that. And we took an average of 4 seconds to force a throw on pressured plays. That is awful. There’s just no other word for it. That’s awful. It’s unacceptable. It will not win you games at the NFL level. We have to make them. And with Jaylen Phillips off the roster or off the market, excuse me. There are three options I think are realistic. Colin Saunders be a reunion. Draymond Jones, little bit of a pricey one, could go out and get him. Or Don Ping from the Commanders. All three of those help you upgrade in the interior. All three of those would be a great decision. Bradley Chub also out there as well. Well, I wouldn’t mind going out to get him, but we’ve got to do something because this pass rush is going to lose you games this season. It lost you this one against Buffalo’s. Big part of the reason why you failed to win this game because you could not affect Josh Allen all night long. Way too comfortable in that pocket. And this pass rush will lose you games when it really matters. They’ll lose you games in January if you don’t make a move. I think it is a mustdo for Brett Beach. Brett, if you’re watching this video, you should be making calls right now. Time is running out. I hope tomorrow we are making a video about the edge rusher or defensive tackle that Kansas City has just traded for. I hope I’m telling you Don Payne is coming to town or Bradley Chub is coming to town. But that is tomorrow’s news. Let’s get back into the week nine reactions. Patrick Mahomes is struggling. seen this all over social media and kind of baffled me when I first saw it. People really complaining about the performance of number 15 in this one. And I know I’m kind of showing my hand a little bit quick here, but this is definitely an overreaction, guys. 100% it is. And my box score watchers out there, I know you’re saying, “No, it isn’t. Patrick Mahomes was terrible in this game. 44% completion percentage, 250 yards, 7.3 per attempt, and he had a pick, a bad pick at that. I disagree. I 100% disagree. And this is why you can’t be a box score watcher, guys. It’s why you got to subscribe to the channel because even if you miss the game, I’m going to make sure you’re not delivering takes like this online because Patrick Mahomes was fantastic in this one. Well, maybe fantastic is a little bit too generous, but he absolutely was not the issue. And here’s why. Under pressure on almost 50% of his dropbacks, on which he really struggled. completed 20% of his attempts under pressure. He’s running like a chicken with his head cut off trying to find somebody downfield and downfield coverage was fantastic for the Bills in this one. They did a great job, especially Max Haristston. Rookie really stepped up and his average depth of target was 15 yards throughout the game and a whopping 23 when he’s under pressure. And the reason I got that in there is because I want you to think about when you’re under pressure and trying to throw 23 yards down the field, you’ve got to wait for that to develop, which is honestly, in my opinion, bad play calling. This is a big miss here. There were two parties at fault for Patrick Mahomes’ struggles. And number one is poor protection, and number two is bad play calling. We needed to get more quick options for Patrick Mahomes in this, more hot routes for him to get rid of the football. But all in, this performance was not on number 15, guys. I’ve seen way too many people quick to pin this on Patrick Mahomes. And I know your quarterback in the NFL, you’re going to get all the glory. You’re going to get all the blame. It’s kind of the way it works. But if I’ve got to be the one standing here telling you guys it’s not Mahomes’s fault, I’ll absolutely do it because it wasn’t Mahomes’s fault. The issues around Patrick led to this performance, led to his worst completion percentage in a regular season game in his NFL career. But I also want you to think think about that’s what it took for Buffalo to beat us by one score. The worst performance Patrick Mahomes has maybe had in his NFL career from a completion percentage perspective. That’s what it took for Buffalo to get us by one score. I think that should be a little heartening because what are the odds Mahomes looks like this again ever? Very low if our offensive line can get healthy again. But again, that’s what this goes back to the struggles of the offensive line. Speaking of struggles, our defense really struggled in this one, guys. And my biggest reason why, when I’ve had time to think about it, I’ve had time to look at the stats, I’ve come to a conclusion about this. And obviously, I think this is not an overreaction. Obviously, our defense has issues. But I’m going to describe this as a twodimensional problem. And what do I mean by it? What do I mean by a twodimensional problem? Well, I’m going to show you. So, our defense against shotgun is actually the best in the NFL. What I mean shotgun formation for those who did not connect that when you go under center, we’re first in EPA allowed, which is uh expected points added to every single play that you run. We allow the lowest expected points added on plays run from shotgun, which is a huge percentage of the plays in the NFL. That’s something to be super proud of. But things change rapidly when teams go under center. We go from being the best team in the NFL to the second worst. We’re almost tied with the Miami Dolphins for being the worst team when it comes to EPA allowed when teams go under center. So, what’s the conclusion there? Well, pretty easy to think about in my opinion. And well, actually, we’ve got we’ve got more stats on how bad we are under center. I almost forgot that there’s actually more to illustrate this point before I get into conclusions on it. We allow.78 expected points added every time a team throws from under center. Think about that. They’re almost adding a point every time they do that on average. That’s how bad it is because we allow almost 14 yards per attempt. And that is 23 worse than the next team. It’s almost a quarter of the entire total worse than the Buccaneers who are also terrible against underenter passing. But what does this tell you? If you really struggle against 100% passing, but you’re great against the shotgun, it shows that this defense struggles when offenses can present one look and be multiple out of it. And what do I mean by that? So, when the Buffalo Bills can go under center and play action pass, run up the middle, run sweeps, jet sweeps, all the things that they can do from under center, that causes so many issues for us. Kansas City defensively needs to be able to pre- snap lock in. Right now, we’re playing predictive football and not reactive football. In my opinion, we’ve got to be better at reacting to what the defense does from one look. And that’s really all this comes down to. You have to be more multiple. You have to be better at stopping twodimensional offenses because we aren’t going to be able to make every team in the NFL as one-dimensional as we made the Detroit Lions as we made the Raiders last week or last week. It’s not going to happen. You’re going to have to handle in the playoffs teams that can pass and run. You’re going to run into the Buffalo Bills again if you’re going to get to where you want to get to. So, you’re going to have to figure this one out at the end of the day. But if you made it to this point in today’s video, I want you to get down in the comments and I want you to type real one. I will be responding to all of the real ones who made it to this point in the video, made it to the end. Like I said at the top, we always appreciate you guys spending your time with us. If you made it here, why don’t you hit that subscribe button while you’re on the way down to comment real one and we will see you guys later this week. Hopefully we see you tomorrow to talk about a huge trade that Kansas City made. Fingers crossed, right guys? Let’s go Chiefs. [Music]

REAL ONE
Real one go chiefs
Upgrade the D-line and Secondary. An O-line upgrade wouldn't hurt either. Wouldn't matter if we brought in another RB because the O-line doesn't get enough push
JS too late might as well take the rest of the season off. he's hasn't proved anything to the team
He hasn't done shit. Just sitting his ass. We won't do nothing because that's what he do!
let have a funeral foe the chiefs offense is death.

No running game and defensive line big problem

afc west champs are like 30-40% depending on Charger and Barcos
About time, Josh. We all understand people might need a little time off for family issues, but my God, you're being paid WAY too much to take that much time off.
JS
I don't agree that Jaelon Phillips is such a great player. Besides, there has been too much injury history to trade a third round pick for him.
Chiefs trade 2 first round to the Raiders for Cosby first pick going to be in late twenty anyway.
Js welcome. Yes sir.🎉 so glad! We need the bye. Definitely need help with the dline and olin didn't look they have been.
Get the ball out quickly. Great couple games before this. Play calling more than O line.
Agree we need for d line and o-line. We shouldn't be in this position. True. No pressure. Yep! I hope we get the help we need. He had no protection. It was bad. Poor coaching, poor oline and d line was really bad
performance.
Real one
Really One
I understand edge rusher is needed maybe a safety but none more than a running back…. without one this team will become one dimensional and with the o line being shaky like it is mahomes won't have any time to get off any good passes because he constantly has to avoid the defense pass rush,so having a good run game could wear down the defense and allow mahomes to work better in the pocket
They need to be using 4 WR and keep Thornton in to force the coverages into our favor. No team is going to leave that speed factor uncovered and it would open up shorter passes for Smith-Schuster, Kelce, Hunt, Brown Noah Grey. the middle of the field would be routine easy pickings
What lost us the game was play calling! And the offensive line not holding up!
JS
Our pass rush was awful no doubt. But, also our secondary minus McDuffie is terrible! Watson and Conner can’t cover!!! Watson bites on double moves all the time. Besides Phillips, we let the Eagles get CB Jaire Alexander! This is not a championship defense! The O line is bad and inconsistent as well. Unless we can get Miami RB Achane, I would get a DE and cornerback!!! Go Chiefs 🏈🤞
