Orlando Magic listless in second half loss to Detroit Pistons

This is Philip Rossman Reichright, the host of Locked On Magic. And five games into the season, it is gut check time for the Orlando Magic. Plain and simple, the way that they have played and been inconsistent is inexcusable for a team with the aspirations they have. A 13516 loss to the Detroit Pistons where they led by 10 in the first half, did everything that they’ve imagined with the ball moving inside out, getting to the free throw line, doing everything that they wanted, even defending at a decent clip. It all collapsed. Plain and simple. This Magic team has been built on mental toughness and defense. And that’s not there right now. Since the end of since halftime against the Atlanta Hawks last Friday, the Orlando Magic have simply collapsed. At the first sign of trouble, at the first bit of adversity, they have been unable to find themselves again. And there are a lot of changes to this Magic team. was always going to take a little bit of an adjustment period, but those basic tenants need to be there. It’s still Paulo and Fron doing what they normally do. It’s still this team being a defensive wrecking ball. But the Magic haven’t been able to rely on that really at any point this season, a better defensive effort against the Bulls perhaps, but against Philadelphia and Detroit on the road, the Magic let Tyrese Maxi and Kate Cunningham run all over them. Frankly, heading into Charlotte against another great point guard in LaMelo Ball, likely without Jaylen Suggs, it is gut check time for the Magic because right now the season is careening off a cliff and this team has no identity.

It’s gut check time for the Orlando Magic.

Their defense simply is not good enough and the lack of mental toughness is jarring.

Who is this team?

  1. Bane is a HUGE problem on both ends of the floor. Offense looked good until he started to turn the ball over, getting blocked on every drive, missing everything, and on defense he wasn't any better, silly lost ball fouls, too slow and too small to guard anybody, late in rotations,… what a nightmare.

  2. Don’t think the players have confidence in the system or the conditioning for it Mose is just not a great X’s and O’s coach we need to get over the hump…

  3. Why are we sacrificing our identity for offense that is just meh. Let’s get back to debes first and the offense will come from that. This whole super pace thing is corny and just not us

  4. ive been a fan since 1998 and there hasnt been a more disappointing season than this. Even when we sucked with tmac it made sense cause the roster was ass. This is just beyond rational thought

  5. that lazy contest by Goga who trotted at Stewart firing up a hesitant 3 to end the 1st qtr. gave me a bad feeling about DET just readying for a run. Team just doesn't have an edge.

  6. Tyus Jones has been a massive disappointment. When he was signed he was hyped up by Phillip and many others. But look at him now. He barely does anything. Early season struggles are one thing but this start is rough.
