Given all the talk about our second line and their continuing trouble, I thought this was very topical. I'm not through all of it yet but it is perhaps not as dire as it initially looks.

As an aside and to clear up any confusion, I'll reiterate that I am not this author, I just like analysis centered on the Jackets and I respect his methods and conclusions even if l don't always agree. More Jackets analysis is always good.

  1. I think they look like they are getting too cutesy and Boone just can’t keep up.

  2. Always love their stuff. I greatly appreciate the ability to break down pretty hard to understand advanced stats and explain them in terms i can understand.

There is a line in there about Boone being a totally different player than JVR and i feel like it is incredibly noticeable with this line. Boone is a play finisher and JVR could crest and also maintain possession well, even for an older player. I feel like KJ and Mo enter the zone with speed and Boone either can’t keep up resulting in loss of possession/zone control or he bobbles the puck turning a possible scoring chance into a turnover.

Maybe Boone covers up other defensive deficiencies but he also seems to limit their offensive upside as well.

  3. The 2 young ones are turnover machines. They need to go back to the basics and i don’t want them infecting the other lines….only solution is flip jenner and chinakov and make an ultra speed line. Chinakov is going to be something this year if he remains healthy…

  4. Boone is not a 2nd liner nor Captain. Change my mind.

But also keeping faith. In Don and Dean we trust.

  5. I kind of hate this conversation around Boone. The coaching staff haven’t really done him a favor sticking him on this line. IMO he’s more suited to play alongside Silly and Coyle. Then the issue is Olivier would be the one looking slow next to KJ and Fants. I’m not even considering Chinny. The cases have been made here to death, the coaching staff just won’t go there. The only other solution is a trade and I have no idea who goes and what comes back to balance the lines.
