[Stevens] Sean Payton said no trades were close today: “That’s just how it turned out”

  1. Several teams got better today.

    The Broncos did not.

Hope we aren’t headed for a string of Wild Card exits like the early 2000s.

  2. Honestly I’m okay with it. When reviewing what we really *need*, like *maybe* another receiver? A tight end if the price was right? But otherwise…what? Idk

  3. I would’ve liked to see a WR or TE upgrade, but

    A) We’re 7-2 with the guys we’ve got

    B) That’s not usually how the NFL trade deadline works anyway

  4. We had a great chance this year. Some of our competitors got better, we didn’t. We still have glaring holes on offense and the FO didn’t do anything about it. Guess they are OK with throwing this season away. Not good.

  5. I’m not mad about this one bit. we are about to be free of the Russell Wilson dead cap shit and have 1st round picks. Let’s focus on drafting/developing. Bryant, Harvey, Barron, and Cranshaw have all shown they have the ability to produce. Our FA signings have panned out for the most part. No need to go and do what Indy did and give up 2 1st rounders.

  6. The Raiders weren’t gonna trade Meyers to a division rival, the Jets didnt want to move Wilson, the Dolphins wanted a lot for Waddle. The only WR traded today we could’ve been in play for is Shaheed, and he’s fine but nothing crazy.

  7. Didn’t want to give up the draft picks or does he/the organization believe we’re still at least a year off from really going all in on a run?

  8. I doubt many top tier guys were available on offence, I’m glad they didn’t start dealing firsts and reach

  9. Watching yesterday’s game (Cowboys vs Cardinals) I had a thought…The Cowboys offense did fumble yesterday’s game (for whatever reasons) but they are considered a top offense with good receivers.

Whereas Broncos, a young team that is doing enough to get the job done. It’s not flashy, ugly at times, but they are doing enough to get a win (even against strong defenses like the Texans). The intangibles don’t always translate in stats. But this team on both sides complement each other to an extent.

With that clutch defense, getting the number 1 seed in the AFC is possible! #bolieve!!

  10. Seems to me that TD to Hock and Minny beating Lions screwed up the TE they wanted to get. Including the Packers losing to Car, because that division basically squeezed itself and now the Vikings are in it somehow. Unfortunate but that’s why you draft TEs not basketball players.

  11. Curious, what’s the last Super Bowl team to trade for a major contributor mid season? Doesn’t matter if they won or not

  12. Too bad but I only really wanted Wilson and apparently his asking price was ridiculous.

Waddle and Olave just aren’t game changers folks.

  13. Our team is young and honestly probably have a chance of sustained success where a team like the colts they are in win now mode with the AFC weakened

I don’t see Daniel Jones doing what he did so far this year next year so this is probably the colts chance to do something and possibly make the Super Bowl

If I’m wrong I’ll eat my words but I’m okay with not dropping a ton of picks for something we may not need right now

  14. I would be significantly more worried about it if the chiefs had landed Breece Hall honestly

  15. Is a TE even needed right now? I know the current squad is mediocre but we have 5 on the roster including 2 signed this year

  16. Best part about no trade means that we didn’t overpay for anyone. Colts overpaid for Sauce.

  17. If they were asked to give up too much then I get it but damn, a top WR or even a great compliment to Sutton would’ve really been a big boon for us offensively.

  18. It’s better this way-trading away draft capital now when the window is opening would be foolish

  19. Unless there was a pick out there that was going to improve Bo’s pass accuracy, I’m not sure anything could have actually moved the needle. The Broncos are likely at least a year away from being true Super Bowl contenders. Smart of them to play the long game.

  20. I think Broncos are done mortgaging their future after Russ. George Paton has shown he can draft and bring in unknown guys like Franklin-Myers for example, that contribute. Not sexy but it works long term.

  21. Appreciate the lack of lipservice, lol. Not sarcasm, it’s more annoying when they talk in circles about being close or whatnot. “We didn’t like shit” is honest.

  22. I always wish I could be a fly on the wall and see who all we considered and what we were willing to trade for it.

  23. Yeah, i just don’t see them needing something that made sense filling at this deadline. The prices are just too high. 2 firsts for gartner + talent is not going to age well at all.

  24. I’m fine with that. I just don’t think this team is a deadline trade away from contending. They have about the same chance now that they would have had with a trade. Draft picks are intact.

  25. “We were unable to trade fans who want to take away my play calling for fans who actually enjoy having the best record in the NFL”

    -Sean probably

  26. The Facebook cesspool is crying about it but don’t sell off the future. Our locker room culture is good, don’t taint the Kool Aid.

  27. Hopefully we don’t get sniped by one pick when a stud WR starts to fall to us like this year lol

  28. Would have been nice to see some receiving help. But on the other hand, with how good Paton has done in the draft, I’m not really keen on giving away draft picks unless the player coming back can really help us

  29. I was hopeful that we would pull off a trade for Garrett Wilson, especially when it started looking like the Jets were going to have a total fire sale. But, in the end, it makes sense that they wouldn’t trade everything away.

Realistically, we have the skill players to continue making noise.

The Dobbins/Harvey combo is only getting better as RJ acclimates to the league.

We have a bunch of talented young WRs in the room with Cort as the veteran presence. Franklin is coming up, if he cleans up a few drops, and Bo gets his deep shots on target he’ll be a deadly #2. Mims as the gadget/Joker looks effective, and only seems to get better with time too.

TE is probably our biggest question mark, but Engram is still a solid play as a pass-catching playmaker. I just can’t make sense of his usage, he doesn’t get the targets I thought he would. But I think that can be fixed, and I trust Payton to figure it out.

Overall, with our stout defense, an effective, and fairly conservative offense, I think we can make a deep run in the playoffs with what we have on the roster if we can stay healthy. Would a big-time trade have been fun? Sure. But I’m not convinced it was necessary.
