[PadresPR] Darvish is expected to miss the entire 2026 season as the timeline for recovery is generally 12–15 months.

  1. Better now than mid-season. Love Yu but this like ends his career. Put him on the coaching staff somewhere.

  2. I feel like he should have done this earlier this year. Wasnt he dealing with the same thing?

  3. I love darvish but it may be time for him to call it quits, not great news for 2026!

  4. Well, it’s time to grab the suddenly available Imanaga Shota!! We must maintain our balance of Japanese starting pitchers!

  5. godspeed on recovery. but dang another player out another year – hopefully insurance covers the salary but it still counts against the cap and luxury tax. hopefully musgrove comes back

  6. I don’t care how he does it, but Preller needs to convince Yu to retire. Cushy FO job? buying out some of the remaining money?

In a career full of baffling decisions, resigning Darvish was def a top 5 Preller “….huh?” moment

  7. Why was he allowed to start a playoff game? Theres no way the medical team weren’t aware of this

  8. I wonder if Yu had the procedure done as a Hail Mary to see if he could pitch well enough in rehab. Maybe he realizes he’s not going to be able to pitch well enough and he retires but that’s far too optimistic. Nonetheless I wish him the best in his recovery

  9. I’m waiting for ANY good news, holy shit. Dodgers get all the good shit and here we are.

  10. Hey man, we saw how Mad Max did in the postseason, and Justin Verlander won a Cy Young post surgery in his late 30s. Anything is possible. Darvish is a natural born competitor, no way he was going out with that Wrigley outing being his last.

  11. When it rains, it pours …

Time for AJ to purchase something aside from breakfast joints and bring in some good pitchers for next season

  12. Looking like a Steve Nash in the lakers situation. Hope he becomes a pitching coach or something because Darvish has a great mind for pitching. Thanks for 22 and 24, Yu

  13. This is where things are just unfair for a team like the Dodgers… They just eat these issues and throw $25m AAV at the next pitcher.

  14. I think the real thing the Padres need to do, is telling the MLB to fuck off and go get another TV deal or streaming deal. Unless the MLB is overpaying them to not go out and get money, there’s no reason to not go get some more revenue.

They’ve been a good enough team the last couple years that I’d imagine some streaming services would be interested in at least a short term deal.

  15. Darvish out for the season and Cease & King possibly leaving the club

  16. Love me some Yu yet this deal w him from before the ink dried was a really bad signing. He’s averaged under 100 inning the past 3 seasons on a steady decrease of inning year to year which lands on zero inning this next season.

We are still on the hook for 54M over the next three seasons to boot. Not remotely ideal.

This might be our first serving of shitty contracts we eat as players get older. Manny and Xander are on the menu at some point as well. It’s just a matter of when.

  17. Not a super huge shock, but still a massive bummer. Such a classy dude, I hope he recovers well, whatever the future on the team ends up being.

But we kind of need some major additions to our rotation, huh? Fingers crossed Musgrove comes back strong.

  18. So he’s going to come back at age 40+ and be effective. After a 2nd UCL surgery. Right.

  19. Hosmer’s dead money finally falls off the books, and literally the same day we find out we have at least 1 maybe 3 years of Darvish becoming dead money 😭

  20. Hope he has a successful recovery. If anyone can pull a Scherzer or Verlander and have a late career resurgence, its Yu.

  21. Out for 2026 and the 2027 season is probably not going to happen. He’s not going to be able to pitch at 41 following two years of inactivity

  22. Have to move Miller to the rotation now, or at least try. Not only because we need another starter, but trading a top 10 prospect for a reliever when we need a starter (Darvish missed the first half of the season with elbow inflammation, so this was a predictable outcome) is a questionable use of resources, to put it lightly.

  23. I was expecting something like that. It’s surprising he was even able to throw at all for the 2025 season. OTOH, if he had gotten the surgery back in April, he’d be much further along by now in recovery.

  24. Cease, King likely gone. Darvish out, Musgrove will probably give us a few months of service. And then? Vasquez is the ace?
