Tanev stretchered off after awkward hit – Full Incident

Cowan denies icing by hustling after it. A big hit in the corner. Straightened out to Jenson with a pretty good hit. And now we get a leaf down. Is that Robertson down or is that Tanov down? McCabe is taking up the bealf. It’s Chris Tanov who has been hurt. [Music] And Mitchov is going to the penalty box. You got to take a look at this. It seemed to happen well away from the play, but Chris Tanov, who is out with an upper body injury that we figure might have been concussion related, is still down, face down on the ice right at the Leaf blue line. Mitchov is in the penalty box. And we’re getting a nice long view of him as opposed to Chris Tanib. Boy, they they might want the stretcher here. Is that what the signal was? I think that was. Yep. He is not moving. And we have not seen a replay of the hit or the collision. And they are bringing out the stretcher. And that’s not a very good sign at all. Chris Tan just getting back into the lineup. Yeah, we’ve yet to see what the collision was. Well, we’re going to get it now. Oh, from behind. Really was kind of a He may have a head snap, right? Whiplash. I was just thinking like a whiplash thing. Yeah, but so it wasn’t It wasn’t a head shot. No, it wasn’t. And it a major a major penalty has been called. It’ll be under review. It’s still a hit from behind. Yep. And it was And it was kind of like a slooh foot, wasn’t it? Yeah. But it seemed like as Tana was sort of backing up, kind of slooh foot and stepped into the middle of his back at the same time. And of course, the concern is the previous injury right not long ago. The other thing is that he has just not moved and that’s the most disconcerting thing at this particular point. They’re trying to get the brace attached to him. Yeah. I mean it it it didn’t even look like the the collision was that significant did it Joe? I mean except that other than kind of a slooh foot. Yeah. But he’s moving backwards and Mitchkov skates into him but not at high speed. I guess it’s more wishful thinking than anything else right now. Kidding at this particular point. Yes. And everyone greatly concerned about the health of Chris Tanov who is being strapped to the B. It looks like he has been turned over. His arms are folded on his chest. So he has been flipped over and is now on the back board and is going to be assisted off the ice. Great job by all of the training staff and the EMS people. Noah Foreman, the leaf team doctor on the ice as well. And you could hear a pin drop in Philadelphia. Yeah, right now you can. Yeah, they’ve lifting him up. He has been elevated onto the stretcher. Referee is talking to Craig Barubi and at this point all we are is concerned about the health of Chris Tanov who is going to be assisted off the ice. Jake McCabe is defense partner is right there to offer an encouraging word. I thought I saw Tan of verbalizing there for a moment uh as he is being assisted off the ice. Of course, you know, you’ve got family watching as well. Yep. His eyes are open. He’s uh wetting his lips as he goes off. A little thumbs up. Hopefully, it’s a good sign, but you don’t always need reminders that the end of the day, it’s just a game, right? You look at somebody’s physical health be challenged here. line of the air fist.

  1. Tanev has given a lot to hockey and seems like a great guy. Time to hang up the skates if a hit like that sends you to the hospital.

What will happen if he takes a huge hit or someone targets his head?

As much as I want you on the Leafs, just retire.

  2. That was not a slew foot. (Look at videos of Marchand to see how to properly execute a slew foot). It was, at best, an accidental bump. If a slow motion head snap causes this, it is likely that he hadn't recovered from his previous concussion.

Methinks that Tanev returned to play too soon after his concussion. If he wants to live without concussion symptoms, he needs to take off a year, just like Crosby did during 2011, perhaps with GyroStim therapy. And at Tanev's age, that might be the end of his career.

  3. Chris is tough as hell but his neck did snap back kinda hard. I don’t think Michkov necessarily intended to hurt him like that either so it was kinda just shitty timing when the contact happened. Hopefully Tanev heals quickly

  4. How is it even REMOTELY a " slew-foot" when Michkov is CLEARLY moving his leg AWAY FROM Tanev in anticipation of contact while he's trying to focus on accepting a pass if came his way?

  5. WTF that was def not a slewfoot or even a bad hit..awkward yes but there was no malice..the impact was not even hard. Announcer is not smart..guessing it was the Leafs announcers

  6. Though not hit at full or even half speed it may of been the angle that created a twisting, whipping force plus not being able to brace himself for the unexpected contact…

  7. These announcers have no clue what a slew foot actually is. Hopefully Tanev recovers quickly and isn't too badly affected by another concussion. Michkov clearly didn't mean to do that, Tanev skated into him and Michkov just held his ground causing Tanev to fall

  8. Michkov shouldn't have even been penalized. When a player is skating backwards, they still have some obligation to know where the hell they're going. Michkov was looking at the puck and the play, and Tanev came barreling at him, backwards. Michkov is about 170 lbs! Not exactly a brute on the ice.

  9. I was at this game and pretty close to the Leafs bench. Heard one of their players yell to Michkov afterwards, "FUCK YOU, everyone hates you after that!". I felt bad for Michkov because it wasn't intentional and he clearly felt bad about it. Also, the ref pushed him in Tanev's direction.

  10. I know people are just trying to fill the dead air when there's unexpected stoppages like this, but why do commentators almost always have to say something stupid? lol. It was a weird play with solid contact to his back when he wasn't expecting it. That's it. Nothing about this looked like a slew foot. Nothing. Why say it and then double down on it?

  11. Nothing that's even a penalty.. just a guy not paying attention who backed into another player and went down .. Hope he recovers but honestly this is more on Tanev than Michkoc

  12. Я конечно желаю Таневу благополучия, но и вины Мичкова не заметил. Чисто случайное столкновение. Дай бог здоровья и быстрейшего возвращения на лед! Амин 🤞🤞🤞👌✌️
