Analyzing Jaguars “Next Man Up” Philosophy in Week 9 | Jacksonville Jaguars
[Music] Welcome into the film room brought to you by Microsoft Copilot Plus PC. The Jaguars got a victory in Las Vegas and they had to execute the next man up philosophy which means somebody gets hurt and somebody has to step in but the Jaguars next men up not only stepped in but they stepped in and played well. Let’s jump into the film and we’ll start with Parker Washington. Because of the injury to Travis Hunter earlier in the week, it created more opportunities for Parker. And at the top of the route, watch what he does. Because he works his way back to the quarterback. If you work your way back to the quarterback, you create more separation away from the defensive back, giving yourself an opportunity at making a cleaner catch. And if this catch doesn’t happen, we don’t see the NFL record kick by Cam Little. Tim Jones got an opportunity. And with this opportunity, he took great advantage of it. The Jaguars needed to tie the ball game to send it in overtime. This is a man beater route. Parker Washington is coming on one side and also from this side is Tim Jones. They’re trying to wipe off essentially the coverage that they have, which is man coverage. And there’s the opening for Tim Jones. This is a great play by Tim Jones because yards after catch and it put the Jaguars in field goal position to tie the game. and wide receiver Austin Traml elevated during the week because of the injury to Travis Hunter. Opportunity on a kickoff return. He gets the kick because most teams are choosing to kick away from Bashel Tutin. Look at the blocking that he gets. You’ve got a double team here, a double team here, and then singles across the board. But you’ve got to beat really nobody if the blocks are executed. Bashel Tutin picks up the one guy that’s the most dangerous threat. But what I like about this play is Austin Tramble hits this with great speed. It takes great courage to hit a kick return with great speed because they’re coming with speed from the other direction as well. And oh my goodness, who is this guy right here? Guess what? It’s Tim Jones again making the most of his opportunity. The next man up and I’m going to finish it with this guy right here, Travis ETN. He had an absolute monster game. Without him, the Jaguars do not win it. a little toss play, a toss stretch, and you’re trying to get the defense all going in this direction and then maybe find a cut back. Well, he found a cut back because a next man up was doing his job. And that next man up was Cole Van Lannon. He’s right here with Walker Little and he’s creating a seal. Remember I talked about trying to get everybody running this way. Well, that’s exactly what happens. And then Travis puts on the brakes here. Cuts it right back through here. And this is overtime. Critical drive, game-winning drive actually, but a nice job by the next man up, Cole Vanlin. And and oh, what do we have here? We have Tim Jones once again getting a block down the field. The next man up philosophy worked for the Jaguars and it helped them get a victory in Las Vegas.
Jeff Lageman rolls the tape on the Jaguars Week 9 game vs. the Las Vegas Raiders. He checks out impressive performances from some unexpected contributors and shows how those performances played a key role in the Jaguars win. Check it out on Film Room, presented by Microsoft Copilot + PC.
