What can you even say lmao

I think there were a lot of people in Toronto absolutely miserable during tonight’s game against the Penguins. Greg Baru, he just visibly was not having a good time. But we also heard from the crowd, let’s go Blue Jays as the Leafs were down 3 nothing. That’s the key word. It’s a confident group. They’re having a lot of fun with these injection of young players. And man, I feel like I’ve been taking psychic damage from that Blue Jays loss all week. I was literally dreaming about that game Saturday night. Like it’s been popping back up and taking shots at me all week. But, you know, this was a good reminder. The Leafs often just disappointing what happened with the Jays a little bit different. However, there’s another individual who’s been at the heart of much scrutiny in Toronto. Austin Matthews. You know, the Leafs just have not looked right since Mitch Mner has left. And a lot of people are saying, “Well, Matthews isn’t getting set up anymore.” And that’s not really right. Matthews and Mner were only linemates sometimes. And I mean, the fall-off started last year. He went from 69 goals in 23-24 to 33, albeit only in 67 games last year. I don’t know whether Austin Matthews will ever be that pure 60 or certainly near 70 goal scorer again. I kind of doubt it. I think he’s dealing with injuries and also a new more defensively minded system under Craig Breub. but he certainly contributed tonight. Not just on the offense, as we’ll discuss, but also he’s a really responsible player on both sides of the puck. But in terms of scoring, he did get the Leafs comeback started. Spoiler alert, 3 minutes into the third, Matthews gets a beautiful pass from McCabe. Goes in, no mistake, 3-1. Then less than a minute and a half later, a mess in front, Willie Knander gets the puck on the backhand, shovels it home. Then less than 2 minutes after that, kneelander again. This time from Ecman Larson and Matthews, but a much different goal. A big shot from far away. The crowd goes wild predictably. And in a stretch of just over three and a half minutes, the Leafs claw back three goals and tie the game. Then over halfway through the minute, Bobby McMahon picks up a puck after a mess in front and puts home the eventual game winner. Now, was this a great game for the Leafs to win? Absolutely. Hopefully this provides a bit of good morale. Did they play well? I mean, obviously not. This is kind of the Penguins team I expected to see this season. The Leafs didn’t generate a whole lot. Their real high danger chances were often off of poorly controlled rebounds or pucks in front of Jarry. Certainly not his best night. And despite the, I think, emotional boon this game provides, I don’t know how happy Craig Brew is going to be. But Leafs fans, Toronto sports fans, we needed this a little bit. I don’t feel much better though. I really I keep seeing the pitch count right before that home run that tied it. Going to haunt me for a while. Anyway, good game. Just a reminder that we over here at the Hockey Channel partner with Rate Game. It’s like Good Reads but for sports. I love this app. I’ve actually been using it. I’ve been trying to catalog every game I watch this season. Not been completely completely accurate, but I’m getting better. I’m going to give this game, I think, an 8.7 out of 10. The Edmonton game, despite being somewhat dramatic, just wasn’t very fun to watch. That’s getting a 6.7. my thoughts, yours below, and make sure you also follow me on RateGame and add your ratings as well, so I can see how you guys are feeling.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs and the woes of Leafs fans… with a twist!!

  1. Personally IMO Matthew’s hasn’t been the same since getting the “C” . You don’t look at the leafs and say “ this is Mathew’s team “ . It was quite evident in last years playoffs . Maybe this game is the beginning of a shift in the right direction .

  2. "The crowd goes wild… predictably"

Is it predictable? People dunk on this fanbase all the time. That barn was loud as hell and clearly are just looking for an excuse to cheer.

  3. Leafs are a team of girls. This is not a Berube-style squad. He requires heavy play, nonstop drive, and players whose nuts don't shrivel up when he drops an F bomb. The Leafs will go nowhere until some heavy duty T is injected into this roster.

  4. Don't get too excited Leafs fans. Every win this year has been against non playoff teams from last season except opening night vs Montreal, and they were the 16th seed last year! So obviously Mitchy is being missed!

  5. This is the best start the leafs have had in at least the last 3 years. After 13 we had a negative win rate last year, and less points 22-23 season. I for one am quite excited to watch them lose another game 7. 🎉

  6. Jays only had 3 more wins than the leafs this post season 3.. leafs and jays both took the champions to 7. Yet the leafs needed to rebuild and the jays are heros. I think leaf media needs to look on the bright side a bit more. Leafs have the second most wins in the nhl the last 9 years. They have won 2 rounds over the last few years. Never have missed the playoffs. Would have won 8 of 11 rounds if they where 3 game series. So they have been good. Befor this past year the leafs had something like 90 more playoff wins than the jays over the last 32 years. Burning jerseys because you only took the champ to 7 games is crazy town. People need to realize at random it would take over 60years for every nhl team to win the cup, that cant be the only measure.

  7. 😔As a Leafs fan, I thought I was used to Game 7 Toronto losses. Game 7 loss and Toronto goes together like PB & J.
But…man, I'm not even a big baseball fan but this Game 7 World Series loss hurt way more than I ever anticipated.
I always watch post-game 7 analysis, reactions, interviews etc. with leafs….but for Jays….I completely avoided everything. Can't relive it.
Something about this just hurt way more man…

  8. Sure. Penguins up 3-0 then all of a sudden Leafs remember how to play hockey. Yup, nothing to do with with Bet365 or Bet99. Nothing to see here

  9. As a penguins and leafs fans this was a horrible watch. Leafs getting dominated for 2 periods in embarassing fashion, something like 7 shots in 40 mins. Then penguins getting absolutely clapped for the last 20 just to lose their second game in a row. Lose lose for me, both teams showcasing their horrible habits from last season, glad the leafs got a comeback win though I think they needed it more at this point in the year.

  10. Fuck the pens man I had a $2 into $350 and I had made the parlay late in the game pens were up 3-0 when I put money on em and it was the only miss same thing happened with devils when they got whooped by the sharks they were my only miss on a $20-$12360

  11. I've been saying all along that the Pens' early-season success likely isn't sustainable. For starters, they've had one of the softest opening schedules in the league – once they start facing the actual contenders, they're going to get beaten into the ground, especially if the Jarry Pens fans have come to know and "love" is starting to make his return. Let's talk again at the end of November and see if they're still in the playoff picture, because I have my doubts.

  12. "Matthews and Marner were only line mates sometimes". You know, and I know, that is a bald faced lie dude. If you're gonna pick at high danger chances, you know that they were line mates 98% of the time. Especially last year.
